So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

BIWI - I made your cabbage thing last night (cabbage, onion, pepper, lemon, leave it to stew) and it was bloody gorgeous! It was a last resort, as I really don't like cabbage, but I'm converted!

Off to my Mum's this weekend and we normally stop for breakfast on the way, swapping McDonalds for a cafe where I can tuck in to a big old fry up.

GreenEyesAndHam · 25/04/2012 10:59

Morning everyone!

Breakfast was ham and cheese, and lunch will be a chicken or tuna salad I think. No idea about dinner yet.

Shirley I have everything clenched that you will show a loss tomorrow.

MrsNouveauRichards · 25/04/2012 11:06

I have just had a gingerbread biscuit. Either they have upped the amount of sugar in them or lc has changed my tastebuds! I feel like my mouth is coated in syrup!

B - 1 piece of bacon, scrambled egg(in butter) 1 fried tomato
S - gingerbread biscuit
L - chicken stirfry
D - Spanish style paprika pork with cabbage.

Bloody horrible here, pissing rain and freezing cold. I don't diet well in crappy weather :o

ShirtyKnot · 25/04/2012 11:07

I might start eating butter out of the packet GreenEyes. Grin

heartstart · 25/04/2012 11:21

OMG I have just discovered The Low-carb Gourmet - Karen Barnaby. She's a Canadian chef who low carb and lost 70lbs. We have her book dh just showed it too me (apparently we have had it for ages!!!!!!

Will post some recipes on recipe thread.

Note of caution if you google her and get her website not all her recipes are low-carb as she writes loads of books etc in Canada and is clearly a well known chef there

Tonight we are having coriander lamb with tomato vinaigrette from the book will report back

vnmum · 25/04/2012 11:40

shirty I know how you feel hence my swearing post yesterday morning. It is so frustrating. The one thing to bear in mind is something the BIWI mentioned on an earlier thread about stalls. It is not unusual on this diet to not lose much/any on weeks 3 - 5. If you take into account the lack of food you ate before bootcamp due to being ill your body may be responding as if you are in week 3 of low carb. Just hang in there and focus on how healthy you feel, the scales will start moving again and as I found yesterday, the thought of carbs is not that over whelming and they certainly don't taste that good either.

mrsNouveau Your tastebuds do change. I had a bite of a cookie yesterday and it tasted like I had just had a spoon of pure sugar, no cookie taste at all.

Back from the gym, have to say I didn't have as much energy today, either that or my head just wasn't in it as I just didn't feel right during my run so did abit of uphill walking instead.

Thegoddessblossom · 25/04/2012 11:57

Any thoughts on whether you would eat my salmon? Hmm

ohforfoxsake · 25/04/2012 11:58

Shirty - the fat you are eating today may mean a loss for tomorrow

And FGS stop exercising! All that muscle weighs more. Do more sitting on thine arse. Grin

Have just ordered the Pig to Twig book (and cookbook).

got lots of those annoying dull jobs done today which I've been putting off because I can now be arsed, whereas before I couldn't be.

MNP · 25/04/2012 11:58

Morning.

Just looking at end chart of intake on MFP then my carb/protein/fat ratio was 15/25/60. Think I need to lower protein and up fats a little.

Yeah Teddy

ohforfoxsake · 25/04/2012 11:59

I would Thegodessblossom. You froze it and defrosted it? I don't think it'll be dodgy.

MNP · 25/04/2012 12:00

Goddess I would personally.

Thegoddessblossom · 25/04/2012 12:00

it was bought pre cooked (didn't realise) then I froze and defrosted it.....

Schnarkle · 25/04/2012 12:19

I'd eat it too goddess. Is it coated in anything or a sauce with it, that would be why its a non freeze item. But I freeze and defrost salmon all the time and am still alive.

Food yesterday was mainly leftovers from the previous day. I made the oriental cabbage parcels and the moussaka from the recipes thread. Delicious both so had a portion of cabbage for lunch and moussaka for dinner.

with extra veggies thrown in with the moussaka its very cream and cheese heavy.

No loss yet this week on week 2 BUT I do feel much slimmer and my tight jeggings which up to last week were a danger to my circulation are now comfortable Grin

NUFC69 · 25/04/2012 12:23

Just wanted to say that I have been doing this WOE for several weeks and doing quite nicely, thank you. I lost over 50 lbs with it several years ago and then put it back on. I now have mobility problems and my GP actually recommended low carbing to me - I told her that I had done it before but hadn't wanted to re-start because so many people had told me that it is unhealthy. She said that really we are going back to the hunter/gatherer way of life with it and to go ahead. Nice to know that some people aren't anti!

FiddleDeFat · 25/04/2012 12:56

Hi NUFC69. My GP was surprisingly supportive as well. She had just come back from a diabetic conference and actually said "It seems like we have been giving out the wrong advice all these years. Low carb is definitely the way to go." Nice to know the info is gradually infiltrating amongst doctors.

And if you can lose all that weight once, then you can darn well do it again! At least this time you KNOW it works.

FourThousandHoles · 25/04/2012 13:53

DH is Type 1 diabetic, I wonder what he'd think to this WOE for himself

He would struggle with the No Crisps aspect of it I suspect.

Thegoddessblossom · 25/04/2012 14:04

L: 185g of salmon fillet, (bloody delish, fingers crossed I won't be Envy it smelt fine, if fishy Grin), 1 red pepper chopped, a few cherry tomatoes, stick of celery chopped, chunks of gorgonzola, dollop of gaucamole for dressing.

MFP says that's 12 carbs (7 from the red pepper Shock).

BIWI - how many carbs should we be aiming for a day? I know 20g is Atkins induction, I could never manage that.....

MNP · 25/04/2012 14:07

But Fourthousandholes you could make vegetable crisps from celeriac, swede, parsnip, carrot, beetroot, courgette, pumpkin.

Just walked into town and back, took just over an hour, might not seem much as only 3miles or so but with my joint probs was a big persoanl thing to me and am chuffed.

NotMostPeople · 25/04/2012 14:15

Not feeling very well today, I couldn't face another egg or bacon based breakfast this morning and ate a few spoons of total greek yoghurt and a very small sliver of turkey. An hour later I hate terrible stomach cramps and felt very nauseous I'm still feeling very wobbly. It's not the first time I've reacted badly to plain yoghurt first thing in the morning, but I'm sick to death of eggs or meat. What else can I have?????

MsRinky · 25/04/2012 14:17

Charles Clarke in his books says about 40g carbs a day. That's what I tried to stick to when I lost 3 stone a few years ago.

He uses up half of those on a slice of bread a day, I preferred to have more leeway on the veg/berries/dark choc front, so never had the bread.

mummyduff · 25/04/2012 14:22

afternoon everybody, feeling like I have so much energy today Grin

Went to the gym and worked v hard.

Breakfast was egg with asparagus
Lunch was tuna salad
dinner will be roasted belly of pork with veg and butter

Gallons of water again, also I am going trying to make the veg crisps they sound yummy x x

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 25/04/2012 14:27

shirl I know this is against bootcamp rules (don't look BIWI) but how about introducing some macadamia nuts? I am also evangelical about those, I have a bag of those for a meal every day for a few weeks and (mad binges notwithstanding) I think they have really helped. They are very high fat and thus filling and DELICIOUS. It also ensures you have a lot of fat in a day. PLUS psycologicallu they stop me cheating (usually) - I know that if I have a mag of macadamias I know I won't cheat and because I think the fat would lay down. As long as you don't buy a fuck off big christmas bag which you would just scoff from, its great. I buy the 60g bags from sainsburys - about 4g of carbs a bag.

Also don't despair - I remember on the old threads I stalled at around 11 stone for about 4 weeks despite being very good. I just had to remind myself I was LOOKING thinner, despite no movement on the scales. Do you think you look better? This WOE is strange, I stalled for a month and then dropped to 10.7 and I have remained around that mark for a while.

I was 10.7 this morning (down from 10.8 yesterday) - will be happy if I stay this level as I expect I will drop another step of a few lbs soon. Looking at my graphs loser the weight loss is not linear at all, it looks like a flight of steps - looooong stalls and then great big losses.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 25/04/2012 14:37

Apols for crap typing - on my phone.

I am working at home today - have turned the wireless off so I don't piss about on mumsnet all day. However I have got the telly on (masterchef new zealand - I LOVE it and will now be speaking in a NZ accent for the rist of the dye) and am on my phone - ANYTHING than do this plan.

goddess - there isn't a daily amount to aim for - I didn't want everyone to be obsessing about counting but everyone's ignoring me on that front as well Grin

By giving a list of allowed veg, and telling you to focus on those at 3g carbs per 100g, that should ensure that your daily carbs are sufficiently low for weight loss whilst also making sure that you're getting sufficient vits/mins/fibre.
