BIWI's Two Week Low Carb Boot Camp - starts Monday 16 April

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 06/04/2012 22:41

I've been back low carbing seriously since February and have lost a stone (almost). I have another 1.5 stones to lose.

It's been going well for me, but I have slowed down in the last month and I'm keen to get things back on track and up the speed of my weight loss. To that end, I have devised a strict two week bootcamp.

It will start on Monday 16 April to give anyone who wants to join in time to sort themselves out, get planning and generally get themselves ready to join in.

Who's up for it?

Hi LiveLong I am definitely both[bugrin]
BIWI I really appreciate the links and support Thanks

DistantShip · 07/04/2012 20:55

Would love to join in on 16th, once we have cleared the larder of carby temptation, and stocked up on physillum (?sp) husk capsules Wink to alleviate the ehhm side effects.

Lost 5kg late last year then fell by the wayside. Off to to re-read Idiot Proof Diet next week .....

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 07/04/2012 21:02

In case people are worrying, can I just point out that if you eat your carbs in the form of vegetables and salad leaves, and you drink plenty of water then you are much less likely to suffer from constipation.

I have never, in all the years I have low carbed, had this problem and have never had to resort to laxatives of any kind!

Hi Livelong, I'm veggie too and have been LCing for 6 weeks now and love it. I have quite a collection of recipes now so if you need any inspiration let me know.

The veggie links are great BIWI, love the look of the spiced coconut spinach, definitely on my list!

For breakfast I sometimes have the Alpro soya natural yogurt, it's LC and obviously dairy free so good for those who stall on dairy. I add nuts or dried coconut.

eggkr · 07/04/2012 21:33

I might try this as ive been failing miserably to lose my 2 stone of baby weight and said baby is 14 monthsd now Hmm

I base my whole diet on carbs tbh so if you can be arsed can you describe a typical few days.

At the moment I eat cereal or toast at breakfast then pasta sarnie or jacket spud for lunch then spag bol, curry, potatoes rce or pasta for tea so big changes needed here.

I cant imagine eating fatty meat either.

Lovecat · 07/04/2012 21:45

I'd like to join in, if I may?

Since stopping bfing DD I've tried desperately to get back into LCing, I had great success before I got pregnant (and I actually credit LCing with helping me get into the best shape of my life and being able to get pg in the first place!), but I just haven't been able to keep up the motivation beyond a few days - some crisis or other would happen/I would get disorganised and I'd eat carbs because they were easy and available, and that would be it...

Well, enough of my woes, strangely enough I made LC Mexican meatloaf (I swear by Dana Carpender's recipe book) today to freeze for the week ahead, so I've done a bit of preparation!

I find lunches the hardest. Can't bear salad when the weather's miserable...

LoopingLizards · 07/04/2012 21:53

Can I join too please?

I've tried low carbing and lost all but the last half stone of baby weight. I stalled for three weeks while trying really hard and then in the last two weeks I've just given up. I haven't gained anything but I need to get my act in gear as I have a big wedding coming up in May and I'd really like to be back to normal. I find it easy enough to low carb except for lunchtime where I struggle to stick to low carb options.

Anyway this sounds exactly like what I need to sort myself out!

LackaDAISYcal · 07/04/2012 22:17

Can I join?

My weight loss has stalled, and I know I rely heavily on carbs, and drink Pepsi Max by the gallon Blush

The dairy thing worries me though. I have coeliac disease and suffer from calcium deficiency, which I usually get from dairy. I know leafy greens are calcium rich though, and looking at the list, I should be able to do calcium rich veg that is still low carb.
Yup, I'm in :o

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 07/04/2012 22:25

Wow! Welcome everyone!

eggkr - I'll try and post a few 'typical' days' worth of menus from the last few weeks (I've been keeping a food diary) - hopefully that will help you.

And when I say 'fatty meat', please don't imagine I'm talking about nasty, gristly, school-dinners types of meat!

Can I join in? I lost all but a pound of my baby weight prior to Christmas, since then (and with return of AF after 26months) I have put on over a stone and just feel bloated and lethargic.

I gave up sweets and chocolate for lent but haven't lost any weight [buconfused], talking to DH I think that carbs are to blame. My only concern with restricted carbs is that I already have to follow A dairy and soya free diet, I also eat a lot of vegetarian dishes with cous cous, lentils, chickpeas and beans. I'm assuming all these are a no no on a carb free diet?

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 07/04/2012 22:39

Here is my week 1, a week that saw a loss of 3.75lbs. (I was 11 stone 5.5 lbs at the start of this week). I also started going to the gym during this week.

I was taking Berocca during this time, which has artificial sweeteners - and have now stopped that. I was also eating Atkins Daybreak Bars, which I have also stopped - as they also contain all manner of artificial things. I was also including bacon and sausages (low carb), which I will not be including when we move into 'boot camp' phase.

I work from home, so it is somewhat easier for me to cook for myself during the day. Although I quite often am travelling to various meetings, and having to grab food on the go, this week was obviously one where I was home-based!

Hopefully this will show you that you can eat a good amount of tasty food!

welcome, slowburner!

It's not a 'no carb' diet, it's a low carb diet. Your carbs have to come from vegetables and salad leaves. In the early phases, usually, pulses are not allowed - and cous cous is certainly not allowed!

Hi flipflapflop would love some of your recipe ideas for veggie low carbing. Have been low carbing lunch and brekkie but evening meals are a struggle.

gothicmama · 08/04/2012 07:44

Flipflopflap alpro yog and coconut sound lovely I think you could add toasted almonds after boot camp

LackaDAISYcal · 08/04/2012 09:56

I'm going to try and do a low carb lite thing this week to try and break myself in gently before the boot camp. I don't eat a lot of bread and pasta generally as the gluten free alternatives aren't great, but I do eat lots of rice, potatoes and bananas, and usually start the day with a huge bowl of gluten free cereal.

But with a BMI of 33, I need to do something :(

eggkr · 08/04/2012 10:10

Any ideas for work? I dont think i can be frying a pork steak or cooking veggies in the office haha.
I am defo addictd to carbs and they also affect my pmt and moods drastically.
When im in pmt I would literally drive miles just to get a cake Shock
Im so unhappy as i am-size 16-none of my clothes fit me and i feel frumpy.I have a wardrobe of 14's all gorgeous some designer,i need need need to do this now.
I need a shopping list too.Can you eat fish?

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 08/04/2012 10:12

You can eat as much fish as you like - same with meat and eggs.

Lunch at work I appreciate isn't as easy as it might be for me working from home.

Do you have a microwave?

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 08/04/2012 10:12

PeppaIsBack · 08/04/2012 10:20

Just marking my space.

Have been doing that for a few days starting by cutting down all sweets and chocloate but wo really sticking to a 'diet' as such.

SamanthaBrick · 08/04/2012 10:21

Hello!

I am a vegetarian but low carb in that I completely cut all white carbs from my diet.

What about porridge? Can I eat this for breakfast - just the very plain, oats only stuff, no added sweeteners or sugars?

eggkr · 08/04/2012 10:24

Are you hungry after just a packet of chicken though?
