Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Wek 4 run 12 I actually did it! 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes. First time since before Easter. Which will be the cue for somebody to get poorly so I can't keep it up :) am hoping to do it twice more then move on to week 5: wish me luck.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/05/2012 14:27

Well done dotty2 and yehudiwho, I start my week on a Monday so am planning to go out for my first run of the week today.

Well done bigbadbarry, go for week 5 now Grin

OrmIrian · 15/05/2012 15:17

Hi fellow runners !

Really enjoyed my run last night. Can i just ask graduates what they are doing now? So far I have set run keeper to do 5mins walk, 31 mins run, 5 mins walk. I am hoping to increase the run by 1 extra minute a week - not much I know but 30 mins is still far from easy for me.

Keep it up everyone! I am feeling so disgustingly pleased with myself - I recommend it Grin

dementedma · 15/05/2012 16:16

dotty i also feasted on flies during my run on saturday alongside the river. the protein kept me going Grin

OrmIrian · 15/05/2012 16:51

Hmmm....I wonder how you deal with that if you're a strict vegetarian!

dementedma · 15/05/2012 20:23

Did a 40 minute run tonight and felt ok, other than some tightness in my right calf. Am very happy with that. When I started R25K I couldn't jog for a minute. Seriously! I remember being thrilled when I could do 3 minutes, and then 5 and so on. would never in my life have thought an over-weight, pushing 50 year old could do 40 minutes - twice this week so far!
I have lost jowliness in my face, gone down a cup size in the nork department, reduced butt jiggle when I run, toned my calfs (calves?), improved the look of the cellulite thighs, although this is still a work in progress, and tightened the gut a bit - but not enough.
There is hope! Go to it girls....

ledkr · 15/05/2012 20:36

Grrr im missing my runs but dance festival; is over now so hope to resume tomorrow. We have celebrated with pizza,im in bed and feel dreadfull, its a long time since i ate crap in such big quantities, feel terrible.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/05/2012 21:16

Been out for first run of the week and it went well, managed the full run Grin. 5.2K in 35 mins 30, first full run in a while and ran out of route before the end so was 30 sec short of 30 mins.

How's it going rusmum?

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 15/05/2012 21:31

Silly silly me!! I went away for the weekend and took my running stuff but forgot my trainers!! Angry
Got back today and went out for 34mins none stop, 4.7km, not bad for yet another week off.
Off to catch up on you lot now.....

ifink · 16/05/2012 03:31

Hello everyone again! Have been running quite a bit since graduating and fancied looking back on this thread, so many runners now, well done! My personal best Grin is 5k in 29 minutes exactly....decided to move onto bridge to 10k but there is sadly no Laura just some weird app with a bell and tinny man! Did the first session yesterday...was so so knackering doing those intervals again

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 16/05/2012 15:16

Hello all!

I've been AWOL since...oooooohhhhhhh.....2 weeks! I have excuses reasons: visitors, stinking cold & cough and pulled muscle in neck.

I had only gotten to end of wk2, although I did an extra wk2 run (scared of wk3) then nothing for two weeks. I am thinking I should do wk 2 again (particularly as still coughing) but I don't want to sicken myself of it, the music in wk2 is rubbish!

I need to do it tomrrow or I worry I will never re-start!

yehudiwho · 16/05/2012 19:29

bigbadnomorecake done my 3 runs this week and all for 30mins. Need to deal with distance now ...
Still no movement on weight. Although tues I was 2lb lighter in the morning and back to 13 stone by lunchtime.what's that about?
Isn't it nicer when the sun shines

nomorecake · 16/05/2012 20:54

Actually...... good work everyone.

Tried 25mins today, but had to walk twice. Nevermind will try again. Only run1 of week B.
It was actually really good to be out jogging around the park.
Being able to keep my chin up and my legs going as the buff looking pro runners whizzed around me. Ok I'm not young and bouncy, but 'm still going!
I did remember your wise words dotty as jogged past the pond!

Hate typing on this phone, try to add a bit more later.

cece · 16/05/2012 21:28

Just been to my running group... done some interval training tonight. Now aching a bit though! Smile

ledkr · 16/05/2012 21:36

I did wk 2 second run tonight, its the first time ive been at night and did find it harder than the day. I had been up since 6 and not eaten since midday. It was ok though but spd did twinge afterwards a bit.

yehudiwho · 16/05/2012 22:41

Ok explain interval training.... Is that fast running and counting my shuffle run as walking ?
Nice. To get positive views frombigbadnomorecake and just to repeat that your new motivation post was brilliant.

rusmum · 16/05/2012 22:56

Been out tonight !!Grin was tough but did 20 mins. Next time is fri and I WILL go!!!!

yehudiwho · 17/05/2012 06:21

Well done rus our pledges are holding up

Jnice · 17/05/2012 06:23

Found you again!

Not doing well as a c25k grad. Still only managing 4k in 30m Sad

nomorecake · 17/05/2012 10:36

damn phone!

rusmum YAY!! well done! look out for your post on Fri.
Yeuhudiwho Thanks! oh, and i'd glad i'm not the only one shuffling around!
apparently ones weight fluctuates slightly during the day, so its best to weigh yourself at the same point everytime, i.e. in the mornings.
I haven't lost very much weight, but less flabby, wobbly and my shape is improving. mainly on my arms and legs though.

someone did ask me, if i'd lost weight recently too. i think my self esteems up, and so my posture is better, i've heard helps you look slimmer.

Jnice no shame in that at all!! i'm probably slower than that! good for you for sticking at it, its better than sitting on the couch!
i think interval training can make you faster, but know nothing about it, properly.

cece tell us about intervals please! also- how are you finding running with the group? i think i would be intimidated! Blush

need to squeeze two more runs in by sunday!

cinnamongreyhound · 17/05/2012 10:49

I'm going to a group for the first time on Monday nomorecake and I'm terrified but dh is making me go thinks it'll be good for me. I'll let you know how it goes, will be running tonight and Saturday daytime.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/05/2012 10:50

Hi Jnice glad to hear you're still running, are you still running with a buggy? If you are that speed is great of not it's still not bad at all!

cece · 17/05/2012 14:51

We did a few different exercises but one of them involved running around the boundary of the cricket markings (in park) at each cone we had to change speed, slow jog, medium jog, run pretty fast. Did three laps, was knackering!

Group running is OK but I find I am too fast for the beginners group and too slow for the 'proper' runners. Sometimes I join in with the faster ones and sometimes go with the beginners. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 17/05/2012 21:41

Been out for run2 of the week and it was fine, didn't feel too tired but didn't break any records! I have been going after the kids have gone to bed as going before I was feeling guilty about pushing their tea time back and generally not being around to do mummy-type things so I think mentally I have been prepared better for my run. It is getting dark towards the end which worries me a bit as I try to run in the forest if I can. Plus it then means I get less time with dh (who doesn't care at the moment as I bought him a new ps3 game last week so he's playing it while I run!) and I am getting tired so more likely to cut it short. I don't know it's just the change in timing suiting me better, being a change or the commitment I have made to a group of women I've never met but I'm feeling much more positive about my runs now Grin

Ds1 did make me laugh tonight though as he asked when I was going for my run as he wanted to watch Tom and Jerry and apparently Daddy always lets him watch tv while I'm running, he was not happy when I said I was going after his bedtime and he wouldn't be watching Tom and Jerry today!
