Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

I know what you mean about the boredom - did a new route with DH on Sunday, which involved getting lost in a slightly shitty and scary bit of an industrial estate until we found the path to the river, but it still made the time go by just because of the novelty!

Milewalker - was thinking about your q about the gym and resting. I think resting is mostly to do with your muscles recovering, rather than the CV stuff, so you are probably fine to do some CV that doesn't use the same muscles?

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/04/2012 13:30

Hello all. It has been an age since I was last here due to flu for both me and DH. So no run for 4 weeks Shock. Due to do W7r3 tonight but seriously don't think I'll manage it after such a long break. Might have to ease my self in with something easier. Anyway we will see. Glad to see so many still holding the torch!

rusmum · 19/04/2012 14:17

Eyes all ok!! Allowed to run. Yay

dotty2 · 19/04/2012 14:40

Good news rusmum - and welcome back funny.

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/04/2012 16:45

thanks dotty am starting to dread it now. I don't know if I even can run anymore!

FaceCrack · 19/04/2012 17:56

Just done w4.r1. Found it so hard but I managed it, it's a big step from week 3. I did it though

cinnamongreyhound · 19/04/2012 20:21

Well the new trainers were fab but are wrecked now from the rain and muddy puddles Sad. Did my fastest 5k yet but had to walk in the middle so not sure it counts!! I am really achey though so think I pushed myself quite hard.

Go out in a positive frame of mind FannysInLaJardin and give it your best shot, bet it's better than you think!

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/04/2012 22:32

thanks cinnamon. I didn't do my 25 mins. I managed 21 and the rest walking. Covered 2.5k which is a bit pathetic, but not too bad after 4 weeks break. Will do wk7 r2 on Saturday. At least I am bak into it now and don't feel dead!

milewalker · 19/04/2012 22:45

quick update before i go to bed-did r3w3 this morning and did an extra 7.5 miles walking (only 10 weeks till marathon so need to keep walking) i'm LOVING the feeling of running but am amazed at how much harder it is than the power walking i do (i walk at 5mph sometimes 5.5mph)

i've also been back to the gym and my dh has come with me, had a long chat with the owner/trainer and i'm very impressed so we've both signed up. i'll be taking a few 'before gym' pics so i can see how i progress shape wise doing c25k and weights.

roll on sunday for w4r1 and monday a.m for induction.

littledolly · 20/04/2012 08:51

I did r2 w3 last night and found it a little easier than the first run - still struggle with breathing though. Am really starting to enjoy it now, which I wasn't sure would ever happen!
Now that I seem to be making progress, and want to stick at it, I'm off to eBay to look for some new running clothes Grin

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 20/04/2012 15:27

Hi everyone,
Just a quick post to say I have just signed up for my first charity 5k - eeek.

Better get my skates on and try to do a 5k without walking.....
Will come back to check on you all later.

OrmIrian · 20/04/2012 16:55

A small (very small) miracle has happened! For over a year I have not been able to run without severe pain from the tendonitis in my left foot. When I started Cto5K it was quite sore and I did the usual 'pretend it's not happening' thing. But I have just realised in the last week or so I have had no pain at all! Yippee! And I've been running 25 mins too. I can hardly beleive it Grin

BartletForAmerica · 20/04/2012 19:39

Week 5 Run 2 done tonight!

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 20/04/2012 20:35

Grin Grin at Cinnamons new name for Funny.

I haven't been out since I graduated on Sunday Blush, DH working late so it isn't going to happen tonight. Will get DM to watch DC tomorrow so I can go out, better now I've signed up for the 5k.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/04/2012 21:16

Whoops Blush

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 20/04/2012 21:27

Just me being childish cinnamon!

Think I am going to try to follw this plan next - 10k

FunnysInLaJardin · 20/04/2012 22:03

I don't mind being Fannys Grin. Have just joined the Race For Life...........OMG, in a little under 5 weeks. I NEED to get training. At the mo my best is 3.5k in 25 mins Blush. Mind you I needed the push. Rachel at work made me do it Grin

yehudiwho · 21/04/2012 07:17

just about to do the last run - feels a bit sad in a Fanny or Funny way ....

still have lots to do as only managing about 3.5 km in my 30 mins !

yehudiwho · 21/04/2012 09:46

Ok I HAVE GRADUATED!!!!!
bloody hell I did it - back in the dark days of December I would never have believed I could do this - only getting 4.6 km including the 5 min warm up but who cares
I can remember thinking 5 mins was a real battle but I can now run (slowly) for 30 minutes -
without this thread and all your support I know i would have stopped - in fact i had a couple of weeks when i did no running at all but this pushed me on

so thank you all especially queenrunninggeekmum for starting it and cinnamon greyhound taking over her crown

I had finally found an app to replace saint laura and listen to my own music but get the timings (which I still need)- Runkeeper for me

rusmum · 21/04/2012 09:54

Sad had 12 days off scared to go tonight lol

0bviously0blivious · 21/04/2012 10:32

I'm on my 15th day off now Ru, and am still likely to need several more :( I think I'm going to go back to week 5.

cece · 21/04/2012 10:32

Thanks for another graduate - well done yehudiwho

rusmum - I have just been out after 8 days off. Nearly killed me but quite surprised to find I have done. 5.1 k! Shock

I might look into doing some of the 10k training in an attempt to speed up and get th 5k done in 30 mins. Still taking 40 mins at the moment.

I hav joined a running group but can't go till next week as it clashes with DS1 swimming lesson (had to rearrange it so I can go! LOL)

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2012 15:11

Congratulations yehudiwho, well done for finishing! I like RunKeeper, it's nice to get the 5 minute announcements.

Sure you'll be fine rusmum!

I'm so unsure about running with others cece, I worry about being slow, looking silly with others who are proper runners and generally not being up to their standard! I would like to do a park run just to get an official time but I'm so rubbish at pacing myself that I worried I'd get too caught up in everyone else and wear myself out too quickly! Why not rearrange your ds1's swimming lesson then you both get to do what you enjoy :)

cece · 21/04/2012 15:31

I think I will cope with the group - most of them are complete beginners and doing the 1 min runs at the moment. The woman who runs it said that the ones who can go a bit further run ahead and then turn around and re-meet the new ones (it's along a canal path). So hoping I won't be too out of place. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2012 16:20

Sounds good cece, just me that's antisocial then!!

Have decided to run tomorrow instead of today as we have proper thunderstorms with hail for the last hr and I am working at 6 so can't wait much longer!
