Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

No idea about iPods, sorry.
Bit behind on running as DD has had a bug. Managed to do w3r2 today. It was hard, I could tell I hadn't run for 6 days. Hopefully that's me back into it.

ObviouslyOblivious · 13/04/2012 10:24

Still got this cold - I want to run :(

jchocchip · 13/04/2012 16:48

Hi I play the podcasts on my phone and usually end a few minutes after dh with his mp3.
I thought it may be because I have mytracks running too and cutting in every 5 mins... Not too annoying once you are on the later weeks though.

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2012 17:36

Hi.
I have just done week 1 run 3!!!!!
Didn't think I would, but it's going ok.
I might re-do week 1 next week as today, I still had to walk for a bit of one of the jogging sessions.

I have an app on my blackberry and although there is the option to play music from my playlist, it only plays the one song, over and over and over, so I don't listen to anything. Would be so much easier if I could have some songs playing.
Anyone else use the blackberry app? and can help?

cinnamongreyhound · 13/04/2012 20:08

Sorry FraterculaArctica can't help on that one, guess they jut play at slightly different speeds but no idea how to fix it!

My fastest run today, 5.26K in 37 1/2 mins :), guess my rubbish run on weds was setting me up for improvement. Still a long way to go to a 30min 5K!

bigbadbarry · 14/04/2012 07:25

Re the iPod thing, probably a stupid question but you are both playing at standard speed? There's an option to listen faster (I often listen to the archers at 1.5 x Blush)

cece · 14/04/2012 20:19

cinnaman you are doing really well!

Welcome to all the newbies.

I seem to have gone off the boil a bit and seem to have reduced the distance I am running in the time! Might try some of the first runs for the bridge to 10 k to see if that helps...

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 14/04/2012 21:33

Hi All, I managed W9R2 last night, but jings it was a tough one.
I am hoping to graduate tomorrow, fingers crossed I get out.

To the graduates - I managed 4.2km in 30 mins (just running bit) last night, how does this compare to your times, I hoped I would be nearer the 5k...

rusmum · 14/04/2012 21:40

I did 4.5 k in my 30 minutes. ? Don't know how it compares?

cece · 14/04/2012 21:53

Now I really am depressed I did 3.8km in 30 mins on my last run. Sad I was doing 5k in 40 mins a few weeks ago.

rusmum · 14/04/2012 22:27

I did 5.3 kin in the 40 mins but we all different!! Grin

rusmum · 14/04/2012 22:49

Cannot wait till next run bet it will be hare though after 10 days off! Agh Angry

rusmum · 14/04/2012 22:49

Tough!

Jnice · 15/04/2012 10:00

Hello all! I lost you for a while. Hard to catch up on iPhone - any new graduates?

I have been crap since the diva 8k. Ran on Friday and similar to PP did less than 4k in 30 mins despite no walking Sad

Going to keep trying for 3 x pw and hope to at least maintain the fitness of not improve for now.

Hoping to stay in touch with you all and not fall off the thread again!

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 15/04/2012 10:38

New Graduate Here Grin Grin Grin

Soooooo pleased I have finally finished the plan, it has taken way longer than the 9 weeks due to sickness, childcare..... but I dont care, I couldn't run from one lamp post to the next in December :)

I managed the same distance again today, but pleased with that as I hate morning runs and DD was up all a lot last night. Thanks for sharing your distances, we are not too far off each other. If I can do 4k in 30mins, I should be able (in theory) to do 5k in 37.5mins so think my plan will be to up the time I run. I will aim for 32mins for the next week and maybe 30mins will start to feel easy?!?!

Anyway Thanks to Laura for coaching me through it and Thanks to all of you for making me post on here Grin without that I would not have completed lots of the runs......

Keep on running Wine

cinnamongreyhound · 15/04/2012 12:06

Good to see you back Jnice, I am slowly increasing my distance in the time so don't despair! I feel that as I have improved so much over the 9 weeks of C25K I should be able to inprove at the same rate but I am not actually following a carefully designed program now just trying to run a bit faster each time which I guess is not very accurate or effective!!

Yay!! Congratulations on graduating ManyMomentsOfMadness!!! Could be a plan with the 32mins, although some runs I feel I might die by the end of 30 mins so not sure I'd manage the extra 2!

Such a shame we have lost QueenRunningGeekMum, as she was the one who started us all on this journey :(

Jnice · 15/04/2012 13:12

Congratulations manymoments! Great news Grin

cinnamon good to see you. Glad you've been keeping up with it. Sorry to hear we lost geekmum Sad

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 15/04/2012 15:06

Thanks cinnamon & jnice Grin

I don't feel like I can manage 32mins at the moment either, but haven't we said that each week we went along the plan?? I feel I have to have something to aim at, so 2 minutes it is - will let you know how much of a killer it is next week!!

I miss QRGM :(

SilveryMoon · 15/04/2012 17:07

Hi.
I'm supposed to be doing week 2 run 1 tonight, but think I might repeat week 1. Run 1, I had to walk through some of the jogging parts, run 2 the same and run 3 I walked the last jog session.
But then if I repeat week 1, will I feel like I'm not moving on? Week 2 is the same as week 1 isn't it?

Stupid question alert
How do you all know how far you are going?

Jnice · 15/04/2012 17:46

Hi silvery - I can't remember but I think it was different each week. Are you doing the nhs one?

I use run keeper app on iPhone for distance, it uses gps to measure the route. You can also use online tools to draw your route on a map to work it out if you don't have a smartphone.

spiderbabymum · 15/04/2012 17:47

Im a lapsed runner .
Was up to week 8 a month ago.....
was so chuffed .
then lots of life stuff got in the way .
Attempted to get back in again a few times ...but failed again
Now Im recommencing at the start of week6
WISH ME LUCK ladies ...

SilveryMoon · 15/04/2012 17:57

Thanks Jnice
I'm using the blackberry app..........
The warm up lasts about 10/12 minutes though, even though it says that it's 5 minutes. It's not.
The blackberry app is rubbi

dementedma · 15/04/2012 18:15

may i join? did the Race for Life last year in 38 minutes, then another one in 32 which nearly killed me. Seriously. one car accident and 2 stone heavier here i am again, out of shape and the RfL in 5 Weeks Shock
did week 4 R1 today and managed ok but need some good running shoes on a fairly tight budget. Any ideas?

OrmIrian · 15/04/2012 19:38

Week 7 run completed twice. First time nearly killed me, second was a doddle

cinnamongreyhound · 15/04/2012 20:05

Maybe do one more wk1 run SilveryMoon and see how that goes, not a stupid question I use runkeeper too.

Welcome dementedma! At least you don't HAVE to run the race for life, I did it with my mum about 9yrs ago, it took 56 mins and we were by no means last!

Good luck spiderbabymum, I reckon wk6 should be fine after a month off.

I managed to knock a minute off my time today so well chuffed!!
