A continuation of The Rather Amazing Low Carb Diet Thread.

Morning! I'm not weighing myself here because I don't own scales. So I'll be judging my progress by how I feel & the size of my muffin top.

Yesterday's lunch ended up being chilli (no beans) & salad which was really nice. DD1 had 3 extra servings of chilli and ate all of her salad. Dinner was chicken & spinach curry with cauliflower 'rice'.

I've just had scrambled eggs with spinach, sundried tomatoes and mozzarella cheese.

Lunch will probably be chicken salad. Dinner - tbc.

I've got to stop googling low carb diets now though, every time I do I find another category of foods I shouldn't eat much (nuts last night). I'm going to end up living on meat and green veg at this rate....

GetOrf - great news about the dress. I think with low carbing sometimes you notice more the loss of inches than lbs - if that makes sense.

I did read somewhere (could have been on Dr Eades website) that with low carbing you don't lose muscle tissue, like you do with low calorie diets and that is why even though you are losing fat - it can be very slow weight loss, as fat weighs so much less than muscle.

Vnmum, I always could an egg as 1g carb - but then I'm really strict about not going over 30g of carb a day - others may not bother.

PostBellumBugsy · 01/03/2012 11:14

Bah - I always count an egg as 1g carb!!! (not could an egg).

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 11:41

I never knew that eggs had any carbs - I have just been eating them freely (they don't show as carby on MFP either).

Never mind.

That's interesting postbellum - I will have a look at that website. It is strange - I was feeling very skinny yesterday and was convinced I would have shown a reduction this morning. The cellulite appearance on my stomach has gone, and DP says that I am the slimmest he has ever seen me (which is not true - I was 10 stone 4 this time last year). But perhaps the fact I am exercising every day and also not eating any carb (so the fat is burning away as opposed to muscle) makes me look different.

seriouswispa I have just noticed that you have just moved to Gloucester. I'm sorry. Grin I have lived here nearly 3 years. It's a strange awld place.

Thank god for MN & the lovely low carb thread - because I am definitely slightly obsessed (and clearly not busy enough at work)!
GetOrf, on yet another low carb website must get a life one woman had posted photos of herself in a swimsuit when she was exactly the same weight. They were obviously a few years apart - but one of them she was 10st7lb on low cal & the other 10st7lb on low carb and the difference was AMAZING!!!!! She was so much slimmer in the low carb pic - despite being the same weight. Weird or what?!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 11:58

OOh that's interesting postbellum. What site are you on?

I am also very quiet at work hence the posting on here all the damn time, activity where I work dies a death at the end of the financial year (everyone has run out of money and all projects grind to a halt).

I love this thread, have got so many tips and such great advice on here. Thanks everyone.

so photos are on www.carblife.com

and one of my other faves for wasting hours of my life is www.livinlavidalowcarb.com - particurarly the forum.

Hopefully, everyone at work thinks I'm terribly busy - with all this typing I'm sure I look productive!!! Wink

I have just had a quiche - thanks to the idea of crustless quiches I bought a quiche from the cafe and just ate the innards. It was lovely. I am going to buy another one in a minute.

PLEASE tell me (I have never made quiche so I don't know) that quiche filling doesn't have any bloody flour in it?

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2012 13:37

GOML - as far as I know, quiche filling is just eggs, possibly a little milk, plus whatever filling you chuck in. If you took the pastry off you'll be fine.

I'm eating guacamole and veggie sticks for lunch today, then I am treating DH and myself to seabass for tea (the DCs are eating seperately tonight; it would be wasted on them Grin). Maybe with coleslaw and rocket salad.....mmmm.

I was at Costco last week and bought an industrial-size jar of almonds, which are my emergency desk nibble if I feel a bit peckish. They will probably last me for the next three years.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 13:39

Oh that's good then. yes was very good and threw the crust away (it looked delicious!).

AngryFeet · 01/03/2012 13:52

Hmm may have buggered up a bit today. I wasn't really thinking but I bought some broccoli and then some chicken from the rotisserie to go with it. 2 large thighs in BBQ marinade - so not lots of sauce or anything just a thin coating on the skin but it was probably massively high in carbs thinking about it :(

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 14:10

I remember being starving hungry in January and ate pretty much a whole rotisserie chicken from Sainsburys. Blush

It was fine. I expect that there is sugar in the marinade but expect most would have run off in the rotisserie machine.

First full 24 hours of absolutely carbs at all.

Breakfast is a really challenge, I need to surmount that one. I had a ham sandwich with red leicester slices as my bread. Weird but nice.

Ds1 thought I'd lost my mind!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 16:49

I love boiled eggs, I too can't cook them without the yolk being hard. I will have to look out for those colour change thingies - where di you get yours?

That sandwich sounds great Grin. I must admit I find breakfast hard in the week, I generally don't bother but have lunch, tea and dinner, so still 3 meals a day but later in the day than normal.

Well done encyclo on the carb free day.

I think I may have tipped over into ketosis inadvertently - my pee is bright luminous yellow Hmm and smells like sweets, I also have a strange (though not really unpleasant) tinge in my mouth. So will up the veg, don't really want to go into ketosis if I can help iot.

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2012 16:50

Encyclogirl - I find breakfasts are OK if you have time, but I always struggle mid-week - I just about have time to shove something into a tupperware to eat at my desk before flying out of the door. So my mid-week breakfasts tend to be greek yogurt-based.

Weekend breakfast treats include boiled eggs with asparagus soldiers, baked eggs (in a ramekin, with spinach/grated cheese/mushrooms, baked for 10 minutes), almond pancakes, or linseed pancakes with bacon.

CheerfulYank · 01/03/2012 17:19

Does anyone know if I (since I live in the US) am supposed to subtract fiber from carbs?

Am starving. I had some cheese and Diet Coke for breakfast. :( I didn't have any eggs and didn't want to make chicken or tuna. Sigh. Oh well, I'll be home in an hour and make some tuna wraps in lettuce. And I'm going to get some damn eggs!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 17:25

Cheeful have a look here uk.atkins.com/program/interactive-tools/carb-counter

It says that in the US the carb content includes fibre, so you have to subtract the fibre content from the total carb content to give the net carbs figure (you don't have to do this in the UK).

There is a pdf file on that link which gives carb totals as well, which might help (that is the american atkins site which looks pretty useful in the basics).

QueenStromba · 01/03/2012 17:25

Yep - you should subtract fibre CheerfulYank since it's included in your carb count but isn't digestible.

YOu all seem to be doing really well, congrats and keep going those are finding it a bit tough at the moment. Smile
I'm guessing the answer is no, but do you know if low-carb is ok when BF an 8 month old? I guess cutting back might be ok (I already don't eat pasta, bread and have stopped rice - also gluten intolerant which helps Wink) I'm still eating porridge at breakfast and fruit as well as massive salads and vegetables. I had soft boiled egg on a peashoot salad for lunch. And I drink lots of water too (although also drink a few cups of tea with milk and sugar )
I'm one of those people who need to be told what to eat and when though, I lose the will if I have to cook think for myself
