... and don't forget Thornton's Diabetic Toffee/Chocolate Grin

My weight is all over the place at the moment, despite being good Hmm

I've been up/down/up/down since last week - overall pattern is still downwards, but it's a leeetle bit frustrating.

I'm out tonight with an old boyfriend, and we're apparently going for Chinese, so I'm going to have to be extra good.

kandinskysgirl · 29/02/2012 11:07

Thanks Kotinka I will grab some crackers. To be honest apart from one day feeling a bit sluggish at the beginning I have felt much much better, not bloated, more energy and sleeping much better. I think this is the diet combined with the lack of wine consumption which had increased over the last couple of years and then if I am honest with myself made me snack more on cheese on toast etc...

I have actually lost a stone in the last year through change of job and just that small weight change has made me feel so much happier so I am determined to lose another two (in hopefully a slightly quicker time frame). I am sick of myself moaning about my weight, I have basically bored myself with being miserable about it...so I am doing something and I am feeling very positive.

encyclogirl · 29/02/2012 11:26

Completely lost the plot last night and ate some brown rice with dinner.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! Why can't I do this?

I think I have just suck it up and go hard core. I was so starving last night I could've eaten my own arm off. Ended up standing at the fridge eating ham out of a packet.

Ok, ok. I'm gonna do it. I just need to be more organised.

I like Kadinskysgirl's general menu. I need to follow something similar to that.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 29/02/2012 11:52

I had forgotten about the diabetic chocolate - I bought a bar last week to try (it's really nice actually). I ate it a square a day though. I have never been so sensible in my life Grin

FreeButtonBee · 29/02/2012 11:57

GetOrf Local butcher in SW London - prob not very helpful for you. The good thing about living in poncey SW London is a plethora of naice food shops of all sorts. Butchers, fishmongers, Whole Foods, delis, 3 farmers markets. It's hilarious but great!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 29/02/2012 12:21

Damn!

Distinct lack of poncey food shops in Gloucester.

That is probably a good thing. I once spent £30 on two lumps of cheese in an artisan cheese shop in Cheltenham. I am still bitter about it now.

kandinskysgirl · 29/02/2012 12:27

encyclogirl, my menu is really helpful to me as it seems 'normal', I am trying to focus on proper non processed food and eat three square meals a day. I am currently making the crust-less quiche for lunch and will have chicken, asparagus and green beans for dinner.

This is all food I would order in a restaurant, and I don't normally eat like this at home because I use carbs to keep my food budget low (lots of pasta and jacket potatoes etc...) but I am giving myself the money to buy this food for me, to make me happier and healthier and actually it isn't as costly as I thought it would be.

I would emphasise (not that I am an expert) is to eat if you are hungry and then you wont eat carbs if they are there to pick at.

vnmum · 29/02/2012 13:08

BIWI I am also meant to be going for a chinese tonight. What are could things to have? I haven't had many carbs so far today, about 4g, so I was going to have a meat chop suey dish. would this be better carb wise than a delicious satay with beansprouts?

I got beasted by my trainer today at the gym and I was thinking of carbs afterwards but I held out. I managed the workout fine apart from abit of jelly legs on the treadmill at the end, but that was after 45mins of hard work, I think I probably would have felt the same if I had been eating carbs so not too worried.

well done on the loss Free

encyclogirl · 29/02/2012 13:27

That makes good sense kandinskysgirl I am definitely overthinking this.

I don't want to do what I did the last time, (Meat, meat and more meat...and cheese....and cream).

vnmum kudos on the workout. Did you have some protein afterwards?

For Chinese, I will be looking out for lettuce wraps (but avoiding the plum sauce), and obviously avoiding rice/noodles!

I often have stir fried veg of some description - bean sprouts and water chestnuts, or Chinese greens - but again, try and avoid any sauce, just in case it has sugar in it.

It's a bit of a minefield, actually!

AngryFeet · 29/02/2012 15:02

Encyclogirl if you are hungry eat more fat! Have a piece of meat and eat the fat too. Fry in butter. Use olive oil. Fat will stop hunger pangs. You can't low carb and count calories of you will fail. Fat is good!

CheerfulYank · 29/02/2012 16:02

I think I'm eating too much cheese.

So in the US do I subtract fiber from carbs? So confused!

vnmum · 29/02/2012 17:27

encyclogirl Yeah I had a ham, cheese and mushroom omelette about an hour after I finished.

Talking about eggs, in the atkins book it says that 1 egg has 0.6g carbs so do any of you count the carbs in eggs?

Thanks for the tips BIWI I will try my best. My main problem with chinese is that i always crave something sweet afterwards

KellyKettle · 29/02/2012 17:58

I find the sweet cravings quite hard to resist and when I'm not low-carbing I generally don't have a sweet tooth, I'm a bit more take-it-or-leave-it.

I don't like artificial sweetener so I don't know what the answer is.

AngryFeet · 29/02/2012 18:46

How much cheese are you eating Cheerful? Atkins says no more than 3-4oz a day (about 90-110g I think)

CheerfulYank · 29/02/2012 20:31

That's 3 to 4 slices right?

SeriousWispaHabit · 29/02/2012 21:12

getorf I have moved to Gloucester recently and there is indeed a lack of poncey food shops, but the farmers Market on a Friday is good for interesting meat and fish ( but you need to ignore the pippins donut stand)

I am back on the low carbs after my horrid vomitting bug but finding it hard going this week. Still don't have a lot of appetite and craving bland carby food. Have eaten two low carb meals today though and resisted the sandwiches and crisps on offer at evening meeting. Not hungry this evening so have just had some sugar free jelly and a dash of cream.

debs39 · 01/03/2012 00:58

Cheese is my downfall...eat cheese...don't feel full...resort to eating packet of ricecakes...and I mean a full packet...16 of them.....erm......and then 2 caramel bars, a crunchie and a funsize crunchie and chomp...erm....whooooops!!!!! Will go and sit in the corner of shame now.........................

debs39 · 01/03/2012 01:00

I am a sleep deprived new mum though.....excuse no 1
I did do the shred tho' so was extra needy.....excuse no 2
Am a greedy cow.....

Am a greedy cow.....
repeat ad infinitum

I feel a little better already.

I think I am eating too many sunflower seeds though. I got some for a teeny sprinkle on my salads and my sprinkle is getting a little large.

I have some peppers roasting in the oven now...they smell good.

FreeButtonBee · 01/03/2012 08:58

Ran 3.5km last night (trying to increase speed - am slower than a slow thing!), cycled 8km to work this morning, feeling preety good generally now PMT has subsided.

Roughly the same weight (1/4lb up) but will keep with the programme.

xx

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/03/2012 09:33

I am 10 stone 13 again this morning. Very surprised as I feel very slim, so thought I would have lost more. Hmm. Never mind, I am going to keep with it, it is not actually that hard any more (other than when someone bought doughnuts in for a meeting at work - I was very good though and didn't eat one).

I am exercising a lot - love Jillian Michaels, and go on the elliptical trainer every day, even if I only manage 20 mins.

I am very pleased though because Ih ave had a dress on my wardrobe door since 1st January - it is a very tight Kookai thing that I have always looked awful in since I bought it. When I tried it on in December I couldn't budge the zip over my fat back. I tried it on lastn ight and did the zip up easily (even when it used to fit me I had to get DP to yank the zip up). It even looked a bit loose on the chest!

debs agree that you sound completely carb addicted. I used to eat the biggest packs of doritos you could get - I wasn't even hungry, just ate them. Ahree give it 100% for a week and see how you feel. It really is worth it.

Glad you're feeling better cheerful.

FreeButtonBee · 01/03/2012 09:38

CY - maybe you should weigh them? - my guide says 1.7 net carbs per 25g. 25g of seeds seems a lot to me!
