The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

Okay - I've just started the video and I don't like it! I hate the American start (it reminds me of the weight loss things that rip you off, did anyone watch hustle last week?!)

I don't like the gameshow start either. HOWEVER I do think he is right (to ditch diets, get in touch with how you eat etc) from what I have read so far so am listening... will let you know in 30mins what I make of it!

LotsOfGoodFunThatIsFunny · 19/02/2012 11:21

ppeatfruit I have 3 DDs and find it much harder than when it was the 2, though I was still married to exh then. He might have been completely useless in a lot of ways but he did the schools runs on the days I work!

DD3 is teething and didn't eat her dinner yesterday which resulted in a bad night! She came in with me but was restless for what felt like hours! She woke up just as I was going to bed so I didn't get chance to listen to the CD!

Neenook · 19/02/2012 11:41

Haven't done well at all this week, but started reading the book again last night and will listen to DVD this evening (when DH takes DC's to the cinema!).

Feeling very 'on board' today, have just put a load of washing on and sorted out school shoes for the morning. Does anyone else find that when their eating goes to pot their house does too? Hmm

LotsOfGoodFunThatIsFunny · 19/02/2012 12:07

Neenook not really but then my house is normally very untidy, maybe if I sorted the house Pauling would be easier? I have started packing for when we have to move in April so it will be like this for a while yet!

usingapseudonym · 19/02/2012 12:23

The dvd is actually very good isn't it? He is a good speaker and its more or less word for word from the book. I think its helped to watch it.

Grrr though, its only the "first" dvd, so the bit of the book I've already read! The other's do the really interesting bits and I don't want to get roped in to spending more. It has made me more motivated though and I do think he's right. So much of it is psychological for me I'm sure! So glad this thread is here :)

Dotty0 · 19/02/2012 12:51

Well....I've read some of the book & watched the DVD & this morning I sat eating my toast & jam thinking about what I was eating & how full I felt & I stopped when I thought I was full (left 1/2 a slice)......I'm still not hungry 1.5 hours later. hhmmmmmmmm next test will be lunch....can I concentrate on my eating whilst supervising children eating & not wolf down my own as I don't want to waste it????

KateShmate · 19/02/2012 14:07

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting on here!
Could any of you explain this 'diet' to me? I know the 4 Golden Rules are on the OP, but I don't really understand it..
Have never actually heard of Paul McKenna before, (Sorry!) so no idea what he can do?!
I've been trying to follow Slimming World for the past few weeks (Eating lots of pasta and potatoes, and low fat) but I have found that Im barely losing anything. I started concentrating on SW rules (not going to meetings or anything) about a month ago and literally lost about 1lb since... gutted as I've kept to it really well. Also ate total crap over Xmas, so I thought that even eating slightly healthier would make me lose, let alone cutting right down!
Am hoping that one of you can convert me!

KinkyDorito · 19/02/2012 14:29

Will catch up in a minute.

All I will say is:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pen-y-ghent

3 hours of walking, 3 hours of driving there and back in Sunday traffic, I'm tired now! It was bloody icy up there too.

KinkyDorito · 19/02/2012 14:31

On the plus side ppeat I'm now to knackered to even think about conceiving Grin.

ppeatfruit · 19/02/2012 14:58

Blimey kinks that looks a walk and a half!! Lol at the anticonception walk!!

Welcome katesh Firstly it's NOT a diet!! Secondly you can eat what you want 'cos it's about HOW and WHY you eat. Although it can be combined with eating plans (I follow the Blood Type which is for my health oh and i've lost nearly 3 stone on it ).

Paul Mckenna is a hypnotist who has a very commonsense attitude to dieting he says 'Dieting makes you fat'.

So basically you eat ONLY when you feel hungry and you eat slowly and really taste and enjoy the food (no sitting at the compooter or watching telly!) Closing yr eyes and chewing each mouthful 15 to 20 times really gets everything started. Then you STOP when you're full (this can sometimes be difficult for newbies if they've never been attuned to their bodies but it's weird how soon it happens and you CAN leave food on the plate; in fact if you've been encouraged to clear yr. plate it's good pschologically to do so. If you've any more questions the book is good.

slovenlydotcom · 19/02/2012 15:14

Another newbie here hoping to join in. I bought the book yesterday so haven't read it all

Felt like a bit of a lightbulb moment reading the first bit though. I have been on various diets for 10 years - losing and gaining the same 2 stone over and over. I am a bit concerned about the damage I may have done to my metabolism, but apart from that, very excited.

nbee84 · 19/02/2012 17:00

Waves Grin Another newbie - seems to be quite a few of us.

I'm 42 and over the years I have done SW, WW, cabbage soup, Atkins and others! Last time I dieted was nearly 3 years ago doing SW - I went from 12½ stone down to 10½ (ideally I'd like to be 9½) then went on holiday and blew it and never really got back into it.

I currently weigh 11½ stone and just don't seem to have any motivation to get started on a diet even though I'd like to wear clothes 2 sizes smaller and don't much like the shape of my body. So, after reading a bit on here, I thought I'd give PM a go as it not about being on a diet. Book, CD & DVD ordered on Amazon today so when they arrive later this week I expect you'll see me back here Smile

slovenlydotcom · 19/02/2012 17:11

waves to nbee I think it is going to be brilliant having this thread.

ppeatfruit · 19/02/2012 18:00

Well welcome to slovenly and nbee and dotty you 're all on the right thread now!! Smile

sunshineoutdoors · 19/02/2012 19:47

Hi Kinky Dorito

Well you can see I've been put off Snowdon on the other thread, but I'm still up for loads of walking around the area. I like the sound of dragging a teenage dd up there though!

I am feeling good about eating what I like today... But sometimes I don't know if I'm full up or not. I guess I might need to have a look at the book or cd instead of just relying on this thread.

sunshineoutdoors · 19/02/2012 19:52

Kinky I've just seen you were walking in the dales, a couple of weeks ago we did a weekend in staying near Settle - lots of walks with all terrain pushchair, was ace! Malham tarn and cove particularly beautiful in the snow.

Well, dd successfully fed to sleep (I know.. Rod, back etc but it's working at the moment!) so down for dinner in a minute - I will try to concentrate and really savour each mouthful. Dd is feeding less already so I am going to see if my weight creeps up or not as she cuts down.

sunshineoutdoors · 19/02/2012 20:01

Hi kateShmate this is what confused me about sw when I have heard people talking about it. That you can have lots of pasta, potatoes and bread and that is a good thing? I think it's when I eat more protein and fats and not so much bread etc that I crave food less and don't eat so much. Not saying I don't eat these things - I do - but I don't think they are things you can have a large amount of in your diet and still lose weight. And they're quite boring to eat too Grin

Dotty0 · 19/02/2012 21:36

Hi [ppeat], thanks think I'm gonna like it here :)

Well, lunch went well, tea....could've eaten more (normally would have) but felt full, once food was out of sight wasn't bothered cos was full, have just snacked on packet of crisps....half a bag went back in kitchen! gonna watch DOI skate off now.

[sunshine] I love Mallham! it's just as beautiful in summer (though often busier)

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 19/02/2012 22:22

Welcome newbies! Sure you'll like it here :)
FYI I climbed Helvellyn last year, including going over Striding edge and I'm scared of heights. Great achievement that I never have to do again
I feel happy settling back on it after a bit of a wobble. Ran 5k today with my friend who didn't let me walk! and went for pub grub. Only had small nachos and felt empty enough for pudding! Delicious and guilt free!

crustyonion · 19/02/2012 23:18

Hello everyone!

I bought the book, CD & DVD from Amazon today so I'm in! I've been trying to listen to my body telling me when I'm full since I read this thread. Worked well last night, not so great today. I found myself shredding the chicken carcass after our Sunday roast and nibbling bits here and there when I really wasn't hungry. No surprise I'm overweight then.

I was wondering, what about alcohol when doing PMK? Utterly empty calories, and also consumed when not hungry. I like a beer or two, or wine. Is this going to be difficult??

Btw, I really like how lovely and supportive everyone is here. Smile

Solo · 20/02/2012 00:20

Hi everyone! :) nice to see more new Paulers ~ welcome aboard!! very friendly thread and extremely supportive with no pursed lips or wagging fingers.

I meant to say yesterday (or could've been Friday) to gang member that was saying that she was going to miss breastfeeding...don't stop if you and your Dc don't want to. My Dd is now 5yrs and (about) 7 weeks old and we stopped when she was 4.10yrs...milk ceased production at that point.

I have had a good day today and have once again found my full signal sigh that I'd forgotten about :) and it makes it so much easier to recognise that you are full up and stop.
Unfortunately, I had to eat something I didn't want or enjoy tonight in order to take my antibiotic...hope I don't have to do that too often. Feeling a bit better, but chest still popping and coughing.

Feeling very inadequate reading about all the exercise that's going on...but you carry on ~ don't mind me!! Grin Envy

OP posts:
Solo · 20/02/2012 00:22

Oh yes! Alcohol. I seem to remember that PMK said you can drink, but that it'd be better not to until you can get the eating sorted first or maybe don't do both at the same time. I think there is something mentioned in the book isn't there?

OP posts:
Neenook · 20/02/2012 04:29

Solo that's exactly where I've fallen down - so no drinking for me now for a while. As soon as I've had a couple of Wine PMK goes out the window and I attack the Biscuit

So, alcohol free for me until at least Easter - starting Lent a couple of days early!

sunshineoutdoors · 20/02/2012 06:22

Hi solo it's funny you should say that about bf. Dd is 6 months and I always thought I'd stop then. I did about a week of trying to phase in bottles, dd didn't really like it and personally I found it stressful and a lot of work. So made the decision to give up giving up bf, and I'm so much happier now. Going to reassess situation in a few months .

You talked about your feeling full signal.. I'm not sure I'm very tuned into mine?

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 20/02/2012 06:56

sunshine there's two factors to feeling full. One, you may have ignored it for a long time; two, you need to make sure it's not emotional hunger. I start eating, put my knife and fork down between bites and keep saying am I full yet? when I think I am I'll maybe have another bite. Paul says it doesn't taste as good when it's on a full stomach. Sometimes I'll pause for a minute to see if the full signs yet stronger.
Re alcohol, yes he says to avoid drinking with meals so you're more conscious.
