The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

I have just put a slice of bread in the toaster and I've been up since 6.30am. Just wasn't hungry! And I'm having peanut butter and jam!

Another good thing:

Cooking really nice food and not trying to adapt recipes to make them healthier. Just really enjoying them.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 11/04/2012 09:31

Howdy to the newbies and returnees!
Yes Nora I love eating proper food. We lived on a diet of low fat/half fat crap excuses for food for such a long time. Now every meal tastes amazing because I don't cook with half anything any more! Yet I still lose weight! It's a miracle!
Sounds like you're off to a good start egg. The book and cd will keep you on track.

shrinkingnora · 11/04/2012 11:13

I have picked up my lunch and put it back down TWICE. Cause I'm not hungry. So all I have had today is one small piece of toast and it has filled me up to a sensible level.

Bit suspicious about what a good start I'm having but this rings a bell from before - the 'surely it's not this simple' feeling.

BigBoobiedBertha · 11/04/2012 11:36

Shrinking - it really is that simple if you stick to the rules. Smile

That isn't to say it doesn't require thought because you do have to check how you feel, but the choices aren't difficult. Am I hungry or not?

I find the difficult part isn't waiting to eat until I get hungry because you sort of check how you are feeling and if you are OK, you just carry on with your day and forget about it, it isn't an issue. The difficult bit is not allowing myself to get too hungry and then being faced with the temptation to hoover up everything in sight.

shrinkingnora · 11/04/2012 11:50

Timing is everything - I do remember getting used to roughly how long a meal would last me for and then being able to plan accordingly. I am still very full but I have had three cups of tea as well

balia · 11/04/2012 20:59

Wow, this thread moves fast! Thanks for the welcome, got the book and DVD today so really excited about getting started. Definitely been more aware of letting myself get too hungry then eating until I feel ill. Not absolutely clear how to deal with it as my job means I can't eat at certain times...also noticing a lot of 'food myths' like I have to have breakfast (almost never hungry at breakfast) or in the supermarket - bought ryvita today, what's that about?

LaWobble · 11/04/2012 21:05

Hi, can I join you ladies? I'm on day 1 of PMK and feeling very motivated at the moment. Listened to the CD last night and it scared me to death! I am a bit of a scaredy pants when it comes to horror films etc, so I kept worrying that he was about to say something sinister. My only other experience of hypno type cds was a lovely calming birthing one! But now that I know that he doesn't say anything dodgy half way through I think I'll be ok Wink.

I have about 20lbs to lose, so am going to be really interested to see how I get on.

Question, I'm not sure if I'm hungry at the moment, but am obsessing about a 'posh' yoghurt that it sitting in my fridge. Under the PMK system should I help myself to the yog as long as I follow the rules of conscious eating etc, or should I try and deny myself because I'm not necessarily hungry?

Also, what about diet coke? I have a few cans a day normally, what is his take on this?

Also, I'd love to hear your success stories Smile.

LaWobble · 11/04/2012 21:07

oh, and another question - how often do you do the positive thinking type stuff (the mirror exercise etc).

Thanks

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 11/04/2012 21:16

Hi balia and welcome. Howdy too to La. Well the question is, are you really hungry? If you're not, wait til you are then eat your yoghurt. It is difficult to find a balance - you should eat what you want when you're hungry iyswim.
When I'm well I try to do the visualization every day...lately, not so much.

LaWobble · 11/04/2012 22:07

Thanks Havealittlefaith. I decided to do a Davina workout first, and then scoffed the whole yoghurt! (not sure I'm quite getting the grasp of it yet Wink). But at least I am getting more exercise than usual (huge understatement) and got on very well with the conscious eating earlier today, although not so much this evening for whatever reason. Feel more like endless scoffing tonight, but can tell it's because I'm fidgety and what I normally do is pick endlessly at food. I haven't read the craving chapter yet, maybe this is where it will come in useful. Sorry that you've not been feeling so well recently havea.

BigBoobiedBertha · 11/04/2012 22:13

LaWobble - Welcome! You sound motivated and ready to go which is half the battle. The CD is OK so long as you can stand his 'hypnotist' voice which grates on some of us and others love (weirdosGrin). It does help and since I tend to zone out after a few minutes and don't actually consciously hear most of it I can stand it.

As far as the yoghurt goes, if you aren't sure if you are hungry you probably aren't. Could you have a drink instead? It might clarify how you really feel and if it is just mouth hunger (you want the feel and taste of something in your mouth but don't actually have a physical need to fill your stomach) the feeling might go away. Failing that distraction works for me. I know some like the tapping exercises in the book but I have never really got to grips with them. I really should.

PMK doesn't really say anything about diet Coke except that there is no need to eat or drink special 'diet' foods. I know some people prefer the taste to the normal stuff. I used to myself for a while but I don't drink Coke much so I tend to have the ordinary coke now as I don't want my DS to have the sweetner. The only thing to be careful of with diet coke or anything with sweetners in seems to be that some research is showing that it messes with your brain chemistry so that you think, when you taste something sweet, you are going to get the blood sugar boost and some calories with it but you don't. This stimulates the appetite as the body is on the look out for food to compensate for this. This is newish research but it makes sense to me - it seems odd that as people drink and eat more and more 'diet' food they are getting fatter and fatter as a population. That said, if you are careful and you know the risks I don't suppose it is an issue. I presume if you drink it with food you don't have to worry too much either but that is just me saying that, not the people who know!Smile

BigBoobiedBertha · 11/04/2012 22:15

Whoops cross post with HaveaLittleFaithBaby.

How you feeling today HaveaLittleFaith? Smile

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 11/04/2012 22:28

Well we were on the same page BBB!
Actually, re the diet coke, it's not very good for you, full of sweetener. I used to drink lots of it and have had hardly any since Pauling. Now I'll have proper coke but less of it. Hits the spot better. If you want to cut it down, you could try the tapping technique when you fancy it. Water really is healthier.
Thanks for asking B, I want to say I'm better :( I'm still lacking energy. I find after I do much I feel overwhelmed. I'd planned to go shopping but after doing a couple of other things I thought of shopping made me want to cry! :( I've been sleeping in so I'm going to try to wake up when DH goes to work to see if that helps. Sometimes sleeping too much is as bad sa not enough?! and I'll see how I feel tomorrow. I have to decide tomorrow if I'm fit for work next week Confused

LaWobble · 11/04/2012 22:37

bbb I think distraction is definitely what I need, I'll go and sort through the washing pile or something next time rather than reaching for the yoghurt. I must admit when listening to the CD, despite the fear that he sounded rather sinister and spooky, I did feel a bit, erm, sexy? Blush. I can't say I find him at all attractive, so was slightly peturbed by this unexpected side effect!! Is this a fairly common phenomenon then? Blimey!

havealittlefaith, I know the diet coke is such total crap, I really need to wean myself off, but it's been a very long standing tradition. It makes sense bbb about the body chemicals being confused by drinking diet drinks. It's the caffeine that I 'need' at the mo. Maybe the extra energy I'll get from the exercise will eventually replace my diet coke urges .

Off to bed now to listen to the cd again. Night all.

crazynell · 12/04/2012 11:16

I'm not feeling great as i have a cold :(:(
I'm trying to keep to paul's rules - its ok most of the time but forgot myself and carried on eating after i was full at dinner last night - the old habits are ingrained in me. Then i ate more chocolate while watching tv !!

Hello and welcome to all the newbies and returners

Southsearocks · 12/04/2012 19:29

Wow, huuuge thread! I couldn't read it all but having stumbled upon you all the other day I've gorn and bought the book and had a listen to the CD today, some of which I seemed to miss when my mind started to wander - is that normal? I'm worried I can't concentrate on it for long enough.

Hope it's ok to join you. I haven't been able to read the whole thread but I wanted to jump on board and and get some advice and support. I've got a lot of weight to lose and I'm a hugely emotional eater. I'm not convinved it's going to work for me but I've tried WW and SW and have never been able to stick to it. I'm also a plate clearer which is probably the biggest problem! I love eating, make big meals and then scoff the lot. DH's weight never budges but I weigh loads more than him now Blush I'm so ashamed....

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 12/04/2012 19:56

Howdy southsea you're very welcome and have come to the right place! I couldn't stick with WW either. I got skinny but could eat so little it made me rather depressed!
It's very normal to drift off during the cd, even after 3 months I find myself thinking I don't think I've heard this bit before! Paul says it sinks in anyway :)
This will work for you because it is not a diet. You're not set up to fail. If you're a plate clearer, make sure you're chewing well and try to leave a bit behind - that gets easier with practice. Time to stop beating yourself up and feeling ashamed, time to start enjoying food and lose weight! :)

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 12/04/2012 19:57

Oh ps sorry you're feeling poorly nell. Hope the cold clears up soon!

LaWobble · 12/04/2012 20:34

southsea, I am a plate clearer too. There's a bit in the book that says that if you really struggle with this, remove part of the portion before you start the meal and discard. I guess just to get you into the habit of leaving part of the portion, which presumably will eventually led us to serving up a more 'natural' portion size rather than the massive portion sizes which so many of us are used to Blush. I'm on day 2 and doing ok I think, but still a bit unclear as to when I am meant to eat. For instance I am sat here feeling a bit nibbly, but not sure if allowed to eat. If I don't, it's all starting to feel a bit like denial and dieting which is clearly not what the point of it all is. Hmmmm....

MardyBra · 13/04/2012 00:29

Welcome to the thread southsea.

Wobble - when you say nibbly, do you actually feel some hunger in your stomach or do you just fancy some food for the taste of it (what some of us cAll "mouth hunger")? I suspect it's the latter, so no you shouldn't be eating unless your stomach is empty. It takes some getting used to.

Have you tried the tapping exercises as a distraction?

Hello allSmile struggling a bit here, just so tired. DS2 isn't sleeping well, feeding as I type... Hmm

Southsea - are you the lady whose waters went while you were in the US or am I mixed up with someone else? Anyway - welcome!

And welcome to Wobble and anyone else I have missed.

Faith - sorry you are still struggling Sad Take it easy won't you?

Solo · 13/04/2012 01:38

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/04/2012 07:14

Solo Sad

Feeling better this morning, DS2 slept ok after that 1am wake up.

My problem is that I'm not finding any time to listen to the CD. I must.

Southsearocks · 13/04/2012 07:59

Alibaba yes, that was me Grin The little Southsea Pebble is 14m now. Still seems like yesterday!

Thanks for the lovely welcome ladies. I failed miserably last night with dinner but that was before I'd really read much of the book and the bit that Wobble mentions. I also hadn't thought "Right, I'm going to do this for two weeks and see what happens..." which is actually a helpful approach. So today I am resolved to give it a better go and just hoping DS goes back to sleep this morning long enough to listen to the CD again.
