The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT

  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY

Morning all Smile. Blimey Sols I was thinking you're up early and then I noticed the time! I'd been in bed 3 hrs by then !! OOOH thanks for the pix Kinky!! Smile Grin Rufuuu now he IS a sex god it's worth watching Cold Comfort Farm for him (My DH looked like him in his younger slim days well a mix of Sewell and Dudley Moore actually! she says trying not to boast Blush) (I still think PMK 's got something though!).

My DD says to me "I'm SOO glad you're healthy mum" 'cos her friends' mums have all sorts of health probs.

crazynell · 05/04/2012 11:44

Hi everyone - i'm in a hurry as i'm going out to see my mum, i'll come back and read your posts when i get back tonight.

I just want to ask for advice on how i'm going to keep to my pauling while i'm away staying at in laws over easter. SIL likes to force extra food on me/us. BIL watches me like I'm an alien for eating different things to him and makes comments like "i hope you're not going anorexic on me" if he thinks i'm on a diet (i'm not, but, you know) I end up thinking, "oh WTF i might as well just eat what i'm given and shut up!" or i just go into my greedy child mode.

I'll be able to listen to the trance on my iPhone every day so thats ok, but what can i do/say to politely refuse 2nd helpings etc?

ppeatfruit · 05/04/2012 12:23

I can't remember if you've told your IL's about P.Ming crazy? I would IIWY just say quietly "I'm following the Paul Mckenna WAY OF EATING (don't say diet) and he says eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full". Grin I don't like the sound of yr ILs BTW.

Moti · 05/04/2012 14:10

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 05/04/2012 16:04

Hi all :) I'm still not brilliantly well. Definitely finding it easy to Paul since I don't have much appetite! Got another week off work to recover.
moti rather than download it, I bought the book and cd, ripped the cd to music player and then put it on my phone. Worked fine once I found it!
You lot and your licking fantasies!

BigBoobiedBertha · 05/04/2012 16:45

Moti, I downloaded mine via iTunes from the CD and it works fine. Hypnotism doesn't work on everybody in the same way. I doubt the reason the trance didn't work had anything to do with iTunes. It is more likely that they either felt they went to sleep or just weren't aware of it working. It is sometimes like that.

There is one bit where he says you can hear this in your right ear and this in your left - that is the only place you are aware of the difference listening on headphones makes. It could also be their headphones weren't set up properly or weren't working properly. I honestly don't think it would be iTunes fault if they didn't feel the benefit of the CD.

BigBoobiedBertha · 05/04/2012 16:51

Moti Sorry just read the reviews. I didn't realise you meant the app, I thought you meant downloading the CD via iTunes. In view of the fact you get the book with the CD I would stick to the CD rather than the app especially if the app has problems. The book is really useful too.

Moti · 05/04/2012 17:39

Thanks Bertha, I will get the book + CD.

ppeatfruit · 06/04/2012 08:12

Morning all and happy good friday and easter [busmile] Ooh I'm the 1st. to use the bunny easter smile!! Also welcome moti you're not interupting us we're here to help [bugrin].

MardyBaaLamb · 06/04/2012 09:28

Having a good Pauling week. Feeling quite positive.

Slightly disturbed by the pic. I can sort of see the attraction of PMK when he's in a sharp suit but he looks a little icky in that pic. ( Sorry Paul if you're lurking).

nell. My mum is like your in-laws. Apparently you're not doing your job right as a guest unless you've had second helpings of everything, and she's a poor hostess if you don't stuffed like a fois gras goose. Both parents have an extremely emotional response to food (both kids during wartime rationing possibly a cause?) which I am sure have rubbed off on me. I know it's hard but be firm and stay positive!

here's another pic for solo and the groupies

crazynell · 06/04/2012 11:15

Morning everyone and hope you all have a good (paul-type) easter :)

Thanks for your advice and comments on my in laws - its something i have to deal with if i'm to make progress with changing my eating behaviour, she says(!)
Sorry to be selfish and hog your time, but i've got another problem with my eating that i wonder if any of you can help me sort out: what it is is that i seem to get insomnia after I've eaten certain kinds of food. There's a pattern as every thursday we get together for a family meal - usually with a pudding too - i was good and left some of my bread and butter pudding it was delicious :) BUT every thursday nite/ friday morning i get a bout of insomnia - i can't sleep, my breathing seems to race, my brain is in overdrive and i get cramp in my legs and IBS.

I was found to have higher than normal levels of glucose in my blood when i had a cholesterol test and my sister told me she had the same. i seem to get a low blood sugar drop sometimes too.

Is the insomnia connected with me eating sugary foods or carbohydrates - or is to do with preservatives in certain processed foods ?????

I'm feeling kn*kered this morning - any ideas anyone?

KinkyDorito · 06/04/2012 11:30

crazy MSG is a bugger for causing IBS attacks. Is it home cooked or pub/take away/ restaurant food. If so, I would think about MSG.

Mardy I see no Rufus on that pic to keep me happy. [busad]

Have At least there are no calories in leg licking, as long as you remember not to chew. [bugrin]

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 06/04/2012 12:09

nell I would be concerned about increased sugar levels, it puts you at some risk of diabetes :(
What kinds of foods are you eating when you go out, what do you drink?

I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy, and I had to be really careful about what I ate. My sugar levels are completely normal now, but it has made me wary and I never eat sweets anymore. Chocolate yes, because it has a relatively low GI (glycemic index), but no sweets.

Have a look online at GI diet information, there are some great cookbooks etc. It is essentially about controlling the kinds of carbs you eat. So fruit, whole grains, couscous etc.

crazynell · 06/04/2012 12:21

Kinky Hi - leg licking - :) i don't fancy a mouthful of hair :) Thanks, MSG might be a culprit - we usually eat at home on our get togethers but it can often be shop bought desserts

Ali I have probe with sugar levels i think. i'll look at the GI site thanks :)

crazynell · 06/04/2012 12:22

I meant problems !!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 06/04/2012 13:28

High levels of msg in food really are a pain. It gives me migraines and quite often makes me throw up. I never eat take out Chinese any more for that reason. Maybe next week you should skip the pudding and see if it makes any difference?
Enough leg licking chewing! I love the idea that Paul might actually be lurking!!!

BigBoobiedBertha · 06/04/2012 15:40

Nell, My money would be on additives too I think. I doubt it is the sugar - it has been proved by double blind tests that children aren't affected by sugar in that way (getting hyper, unable to settle or sleep etc) so I would be surprised if it were that. We are all different though and if it is excerbating your IBS then that would be enough to disturb your sleep I should think.

I don't know what your weakness has been in the past but if you have snacked on chocolate or cake or other sugary things during the rest of the week and not had a reaction then it is unlikely to be sugar in the pudding.

Do you have coffee with your meal when you don't have it other evenings during the week? All the symptoms you describe is how I react to one cup of mistimed coffee to the extent that I only drink the occasional cup of decaff.

Not in bank holiday mode yet. DH been to work this morning and I have been trying to deep clean the lounge (real nooks and crannies stuff) so pretty normal. I was going to say I am looking forward to being able to eat some chocolate again on Sunday after 5 weeks of deprivation but actually I am surprisingly not that bothered. It has been nice to kick the 'got to have chocolate' habit which wrecked many an evening's pauling. Just got to make sure I don't revert back to my old ways. [busmile]

crazynell · 06/04/2012 16:37

BB and Faithnow i think about it we had stir fry with packet chinese sauces - probably loaded with MSG. i don't want to sound obsessed but i find i can't tolerate bread and when i was on holiday in france i ate a little bit of baguette and had no ill effect, so had more until everyday i was sharing half a baguette with DH and not having any IBS or other symptoms, so i began to think that either it was the flour being different or a lack of preservatives. We have bought a bread maker and i'm fine eating bread made in it but not if i have anything shop bought.

BigBoobiedBertha · 06/04/2012 19:11

I wonder if it is the additives in the bread then rather than a wheat/flour intolerance. What kind of bread did you buy in the shops in the UK? Was it baked in store stuff, which I am guessing would have less additives (I have no idea but it looks more wholesome) or packet bread? I wonder if organic bread might be easier on the stomach too.

Not something you really want to be experimenting with if it makes you feel ill but maybe you have start eliminating different things every week to see what makes a difference and what doesn't.

ppeatfruit · 07/04/2012 16:41

Hi everyone [busmile] this is probably my last post for maybe 2 weeks Sad 'cos we're having an 'apero' tomorrow (which is a meet up for our neighbours and friends and drinks and a little buffet thing though IMO it's mainly for DH to break Lent [buhmm] he has lost over a stone just giving up the booze and wheat I did say today that he has to continue 'cos he's SO much healthier!!!) and of course it means cleaning and cooking etc. then DS and family are coming over for a week; then we're driving to London.

Congrats for loosing the choc. dependence BBB!! I only eat very dark choc. but DH bought some very tempting dark fig stuffed ones and, oh dear, have eaten when not hungry [bublush]

Ref. migraines, etc. crazy sometimes people are allergic to chicken but as SoLo knows EVERYONE is intolerant to pork so it could be that in yr chinese as well as the msg! Hope You All Have a Great Easter [busmile]

Solo · 07/04/2012 18:25

Hi all! Hope you are enjoying your Easter weekend!

crazy have you ever tried Asda fresh bread? it's delicious (don't tell pp ) and my brother says it's made with French yeast. Could be worth a try?

Struggling along here, but I think a lot of that is due to the teen attitude of my Ds Angry. He makes me so mad that I want to comfort eat!! wish he'd grow out of it quick as I may just end up a size 30 if he doesn't very soon!!!

OP posts:
BigBoobiedBertha · 07/04/2012 22:42

I feel for you over the teenage thing Solo. DS1 may only be 11 (12 in July) but physically he is a teenager and I am getting the attitude too and in a Scooby Doo voice which admittedly provides a bit of light relief occasionally - it can be difficult to stay cross with somebody who can't regulate his voice at the moment. And yet sometimes, he is still a little boy. It is going to be a tough few years. I suspect as soon as DS1 becomes human DS2 will take over where he left off! God help us if they overlap with the terrible teens! I reckon we are in for trouble. For the most part we avoided the terrible two/threes I doubt we are going to so lucky again.

ppeat - have a good couple of weeks. Hope your DH behaves himself went Lent's restraint has lifted. [busmile]

EggInABap · 08/04/2012 13:32

Hi all, glad I've found this thread as could do with the support! I've been following the plan for 9 days and feeling fantastic, I've only got the book and cd, is it worth getting the 5 CDs and journal?

Also my DP was bugging me to weigh myself as he thinks I look much slimmer so I caved in and only lost 1lb in 9 days :( why did I listen to him!!! Going to forget it and weigh myself again next Friday like I should have done.

I can honestly say no matter what or how slowly the weight comes off, I am loving this and will never 'diet' again!

BigBoobiedBertha · 08/04/2012 14:02

Happy Easter!!

Egginabap - Welcome and well done on the start you have made. A pound is a start and not to be sniffed at.

There could be several of reasons why it isn't as much as you think.

  1. Was you weight static before you started this? If it was still going up you will lose less than if it had been static for a while. If your weight is still going up any change in what you eat has to stop the increase before it can start you actively losing. If you were pretty static then any changes you make to your lifestyle will all make your weight go down.
  2. Could it be to do with the time of the month and where you are in your cycle? I put on a couple of lbs at certain times of the month so any weight loss would be less than expected. Those fluctuations are the reason why PMK suggests you don't weight too often.
  3. Maybe you are toning up a bit as well?

But whatever the reason, dramatic weight loss is not good. It isn't usually permanent and slow and steady is more likely to have lasting results. You feel good. Don't worry about what the scales say - don't forget you aren't on a diet and the changes you are making going to be forever. It is working - be proud! [busmile]

Well, ladies. Haven't had any chocolate yet but did weight myself this morning and it seems over the course of Lent I have lost 4lbs which I put down to not eating sweets and chocolates for 6 weeks. I haven't been 100% Pauling recently just to see what happens with giving up the sweet stuff so this is just the effect of chocolate. Who knew!? [bublush]

I almost (we shall see) get the bit you read about where losing weight is a feels better than any chocolate tastes. That said, DH bought me a Dairy Milk Easter egg, not a big one, but still my favourite so how long that feeling will last is a bit uncertain. I would like to make sure I don't have any during the week though - just save it for the weekend which is how I used to eat it back in my slim days!

Have a great weekend everybody.
