The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

havealittle that sucks. How are you feeling now?

My week steadily goes downhill as the sprogs wear me out. I only manage the cd at weekends. I think a Wednesday paulfest would be beneficial, if I could manage it. I'm completely out of control around peanut butter. Thinking of trying paul technique to put me off it forever. Any experiences of this?

Have a lovely sunny weekend y'all.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 23/03/2012 21:59

I'm feeling ok now because I've had antisickness and pain killers Grin

Solo · 24/03/2012 00:04

Pp is your Dh's birthday on the 21st too then? when I was born, the 21st was the first day of spring apparently, but I know it varies some years and it annoys me when it falls on the 20th.
Thanks for the flowers!

BBB no, I was just surprised by the sheer passion in your post :)

Faith my Ds came home from year 8 summer camp last July and a day later was throwing up grass green vomit and rolling around in agony. He'd been complaining for weeks that he had a tummy ache, but I just put it down to his excessive eating! and his dislike of school, so I pooh poohed him Blush. Anyway, he came back on the Friday evening and on Sunday morning, I had to take him to the out of hours doctor who examined his tummy and then got him to stand up on his tip toes and drop down onto his whole feet iyswim? it caused him to double up in pain and the doc turned to me and said 'he has an appendicitis'. I have no idea if all doctors know about this dx technique, but I reckon it's worth remembering and doing if you suspect it. Hope you are sorted soon... the things people do to get out of running 10k Wink

Morning all Smile no silly me solo his is on the 22nd. IMO the 21st is a great day to have a b\day i thought the 1st day of spring was always on the 21st (it's the way i remember DH's b\day) as being the day AFTER IYSWIM Grin. We're out today for his b\day treat to Chateau Amboise.

BBB Thanks. Smile I didn't see that programme but it sounds a bit crazy to me; our minds have amazing power actually e.g. we can eat the RIGHT foods for natural hormonal healing; I controlled my menopause by natural means completely and as you know still make sure my health is good by eating correctly. The powers that control allopathic medicine don't want us to though do they?

Faith Wish you better Sad

KinkyDorito · 24/03/2012 07:59

I promise faithfully to read and catch up. I've had a super stressy week with work, small boy with conjunctivitis again (so yet another childcare ban) and DD being ill.

As of 4am her temperature went through the roof. We are now officially inpatients again. She needs a blood transfusion and is currently having a platelet transfusion. We are waiting for a chest Xray when all the injured drinkers have gone. They think she has a chest infection as they could hear something in her lungs. I'm quite worried at the moment, and have had 2 hours' sleep.

Sad

Sorry to run in and dump on you all. I don't have many people to talk to. Sad

I have finally done my profile and put some pics on of DD for those who have followed my sorry saga over the past months.

KinkyDorito · 24/03/2012 08:00

She does have more hair now, and eyelashes. Smile

KinkyDorito · 24/03/2012 08:12

Faith hope you have a quiet room! Sharing your pain of hospital stay. I hope you get well soon Smile.

Ali I know what you mean about tired eating. I've been awful again this week, and have now put back on about 5lbs of the 20 I'd lost. I haven't been listening to the CD though. Once this is more settled, I will make an effort. I'm starting to get race for life sponsors, so I need to get my arse into gear!

ppeat welcome back! I missed the series on TV, but the free DVD with the book is like a filmed seminar, so I wonder if the complete set is like this. I am very tempted to give myself a boost.

I will check out the Horizon programme since I now have time on my hands.

Big hellos to everyone else.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 24/03/2012 08:25

Yes thanks kinky I'm in a 4 bed bay but there's only two of us, a girl s bit younger than me who is post-op. The bay is well away from the nurses station too so it's peaceful.
I'm so sorry to hear DD is back in :( I hope they get things sorted quickly.
I've actually found listening to the cd helpful while I've been in! When I can't settle, I've been listening to it on my phone. It's helped me relax and ease my pain :) Not that I need help to curb my appetite but hey, if it helps, I'll keep doing it. Would that be an option for you kinky?

spendthrift · 24/03/2012 08:54

Yay! Lost 5 lbs and ordered cd to replace lost one.

A new day starts. Off to boring gym.

Solo · 24/03/2012 11:54

Wishing your Dd well Kinky and you Faith :)

Kinky do you have a just giving page? I would love to sponsor you Smile

Preparations in full swing for DS2's naming party tomorrow, and we have just had lunch outside it is so warm here!

Spendthrift - yay for 5lbs off! Grin

KinkyDorito · 24/03/2012 20:37

I do have a just giving page; I'll link it here, but it is also linked on my blog in case MN take it down. I'm not sure if we're allowed to ask for sponsors? Thanks though Ali. And once again thanks for the kind thoughts.

www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/team-abigail

It will be an interesting run given I have done sod-all training and am currently working hard on getting fatter again. Bloody stress.

We are very much in hospital then; they are testing her for a number of things including pneumonia. They've told me not to worry, but she is feeling pretty grotty and every time the paracetamol wears off, her temperature shoots up. She has what is called febrile neutropenia, which is why she has to stay in. They have yet to get to the bottom of what is causing it. They are currently loading her with antibiotics and taking loads of blood samples. I'm still waiting to get a date for an MRI of her organs in relation to other new condition she might have, so I might try and wangle that whilst we are here as it's more likely to get squeezed in if she is an in-patient. On the plus side, after 3 bags of blood she is looking much pinker, and she's having another one tomorrow so she'll be practically glowing by then!

Soooo much stuff going on in my head. Lots to deal with and very little sleep. Sigh.

Solo · 25/03/2012 02:06

Aw Kinky :( lots happening there for you. I wish I could donate blood...I have O Rh- blood, so it is very much in demand, but I had a transfusion after Ds was born so they wont take it :( and before the tf, my Hg was always too low :( I've never been able given a drop and it makes me sad.
I hope things are on the up for your Dd and going down PMK style for you.

OP posts:
KinkyDorito · 25/03/2012 07:56

Solo I tried to donate blood but my veins are rubbish. They got half a bag from me and gave up! Sad

ppeatfruit · 25/03/2012 13:20

Hello all Smile Oh dear Kinks Sad.

Faith have you had the op yet? Good luck with it. DD2's ex boyf had a close shave 'cos he had to bring DD to her 'surprise party" on her 21st. He said he had a belly ache that morning but he manfully (bless him) took her slowly to the club in the west end where we were holding it; a lot of guests were late so he bought her eventually and he felt soo bad we sent him home. DS rang the hosp. and they said come in (it was about 2am then). He had a ruptured appendix Shock DD2 and I stayed at the hsp. overnight praying he'd be alright!! luckily he was okay after a 2 and a half hour op. !!!

CalamityKate · 25/03/2012 13:21

Hi all! I'm just starting the P McK thing.

Some random thoughts - advice/feedback etc would be welcome because I reaaaaaally need to shift a stone or so!

OK, so I "get it" in theory and yesterday managed to take about 20 minutes to eat a cheese and ham sandwich. Kept putting it down in between bites, and made sure I concentrated on/enjoyed each mouthful. In fact my DS (8) asked me "Why are you just sitting and staring at your sandwich?" Grin

I think it might take me a while to settle into though; I've got a sort of niggling anxiety that's hard to put into words. It's like I can't get it truly in here that I won't be deprived of anything.

But the "enjoying each mouthful" thing is WONDERFUL! I love food - but I've realised that I tend to shovel it down without tasting it properly. DP made me some peanut butter on toast and a cup of tea this morning (I'd begged him because I'd woken up hungover and STARVING) and I swear, I was almost moaning with pleasure as I ate it. Normally I'd have crammed it in and wanted more, but I took my time and because I got more out of each bite, I didn't need more. So LOVING that bit.

I have a question about snacking though. Is it allowed? For instance, I've just had a cup of tea and fancied a biscuit. No, I wasn't properly "hungry" but surely if I had been, I would have had a meal rather than just a biscuit to nibble? So I had one Oreo cookie and followed the "Enjoy each mouthful" etc thing. We only had one left anyway but TBH I'd probably still have stopped at two.

So is snacking allowed? Surely it goes against the "Only eat when you're properly hungry" thing?

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 25/03/2012 13:25

sorry not up to answering Pauling questions I'm still waiting for a diagnosis pp so they won't cut me open, think it might be renal colic. Might scan me again tomorrow...I'm slightly better I think, pain more bearable, more in back today than Abdo.Only puked once today do far :) Just very emotional. Cried my eyes out when the 10k started :( Nice nurse gave me a hug.

spendthrift · 25/03/2012 16:10

Kinky, feel for you. They thought Ds had febrile neutropenia and even though eventually they decided against, the symptoms are miserable. Steroids were the answer with us but I'd guess they don't want to go down that route with dd
lots of sympathy.

Calamity, if you can say to yourself "I can have one later" and cope that way, it's inc better. But on pm, not beating yourself up is important. And one respondent on this thread said she carried healthy munchies just in case.

CalamityKate · 25/03/2012 16:15

But what if I don't WANT a healthy munchie? What if I want a cake? Aren't you supposed to eat what you want on this?

BigBoobiedBertha · 25/03/2012 16:51

Calamity - Eating what you want is the most important rule apparently (think I got that from the book, can't remember now). If you eat what you want you enjoy it more rather than eating something you don't want and then still craving the other thing and potentially eating it anyway. If you eat it slowly and consciously you won't eat that much. You will, I promise, only want a couple of chunks of chocolate or a small slice of cake not the whole bar or the whole cake. You also have to stop when you aren't hungry any more which is usually when you stop enjoying it. If you eat slowly, your body has a chance to tell your brain that you have had enough and then you don't wolf down the whole bar/cake in one go. And then, of course, you don't eat again until you are hungry again.

It isn't easy to keep all this in mind in the beginning, even though the rules aren't actually that complicated. It does work out in the end though, it just takes practice. The CD can help with that.

the other thing is that whilst you are saying to yourself, you can have anything you want, you do in the end (not straight away ime) start to think that actually, you don't want cake you do want something healthier at least some of the time. Just remember that nothing is forbidden and if you want cake, you go for it! Smile

HeyNonnyNo · 25/03/2012 20:05

Calamity, what bbb said. I have eaten far too much of what I've fancied this weekend and deserve to gain a bit. I just bake such great cake...

Kinky, my thoughts are with you and your brood. Lovely photos on your profile.

Havealittle, I hope you aren't feeling too blue now. 10k sounds like a horrid thing to me! Your nurses sound great.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 25/03/2012 21:59

Mmm cake :)
Thinking of you kinky. Hope there's signs of improvement.
hey I'd got so enthusiastic about my running and trained for so long I was sad not to see it through but I'll sign up for another in June. I just want a diagnosis. They recognise I'm not well but don't know why! They're considering scanning me again and might do a gynae referral so maybe that'll give me an answer.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/03/2012 23:28

Kinky thank you for posting that, as far as I know MNHQ don't have an issue?
You and your DD are often in my thoughts, I hope this week brings some better news.

Calamity - don't panic about snacks or munchies or whatever. I know Ppeat carries those things to eat because they are what she likes, not what she thinks she ought to have.
My midafternoon snack is often a crumpet or a scone because they are what I like. I eat a balanced diet and loads of fruit and veg so I don't stress.
I do snack doing PMK, just nowhere near what I used to. If I am a bit hungry but it is dinner time in an hour then I just eat something small.

Just jump in, listen to the CD and you will love it Smile

Have to tell you all - DS2 is walking!! Grin

Solo · 26/03/2012 00:39

YAY!!! Ali that's great news!! into everything now Grin

Welcome CK and what everyone else has said really :)

Hope the unwell people are feeling better.x

Well I wasn't hungry until about 10am this morning so I had a toasted bagel with cheese spread and ham and a packet of crisps.

Not enormously healthy I don't suppose but it was what I really wanted. Ate it really slowly (paused the TV 'specially so I could concentrate!), REALLY enjoyed it and I'm still full now.

The thing about leaving stuff on your plate though - what if you haven't had enough??
