The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

Morning ladies and happy birthday for yesterday Solo! Glad you had a good day.

Alibaba - I am convinved sleep is the key so I feel for you being knackered. When I look at how I eat at meal times, I am textbook PMK(small portions, always leave some, eat slowly but mainly because I am interrupted a lot by DC(Hmm)) but it is the snacking and the tired related eating in the evenings that is doing the damage. It is massively hard to eat well when tired so I hope your DS sorts him self out soon.

Having an up and down kinda week myself.

Solo · 22/03/2012 11:25

Thank you both! :)

Ali huge sympathies for you, but try to be conscious ironic choice of word! about the chewing if nothing else. Hope Ds settles soon.

BBB keep at it :)

Ds is off sick today after he ate (without my knowledge) a load of sugar free mints and sweets yesterday...he didn't know about the laxative properties they possess if eaten in excess Hmm Grin. Oh boy!

OP posts:
BigBoobiedBertha · 22/03/2012 12:08

Oh no Solo! I know the packets warn you about the laxative effect but I have never exceeded it myself.

Just how many do you need to eat before your bottom explodes you start to feel unwell.

That will teach him to eat 'diet' food! Grin

Solo · 22/03/2012 13:27

I have no idea! they have no effect on me but...

and your description is just perfect!! Grin

BigBoobiedBertha · 22/03/2012 14:21

Shouldn't laugh really. Poor boy must feel a bit ropey. That will learn him not to eat too many sweets!

Did he actually pay for the things himself? It would certainly add insult to injury to pay for the very things that were cause of his downfall in the bottom area.

A lesson learnt though - you can't go wrong with a nice bar of Diary Milk imo. Grin

Solo · 22/03/2012 14:25

He was given sweets at school (the boy didn't like themHmm) and then our pharmacist always treats him when he collects Mums medication, so no, not paid for!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/03/2012 14:50

Oh well, small mercies Grin

He won't be making that mistake again in a hurry!

Well we have flumped about all day today, DS1 has played too many computer games. Although I have eaten hugely less than I have done the last couple of days - like about half! - so that is a bonus.
Going to head up to the park I think and then back via Sainsbury's for a couple of bits. Having that place so close is such a drain on my bank balance, I need to get them to ban me or something.

MardyBra · 22/03/2012 15:06

Checking in. Doing OK apart from inappropriate romantic dreams about Daniel Radcliffe.
Happy Belated Birthday Solo.

spendthrift · 22/03/2012 19:31

Belated birthday greetings, Solo.

A disastrous day. Forgot all the rules. Oh well. And lost my cd. Think I need to get another.

foreverondiet · 22/03/2012 22:19

Hi Paul Mckenna followers:

Someone on this thread said mind training to lose weight is codswallop.... i don't agree - anyone else want to post??

link

spendthrift · 22/03/2012 22:48

Well in that case why does LL make a feature of it too?

BigBoobiedBertha · 22/03/2012 23:11

Posted too forever. Can't stand that fatalistic view. Why bother trying to lose weight at all we are controlled by our hormones.

Mind you, I haven't see the programme so I have probably said something stoopid. Grin.

amistillsexy · 22/03/2012 23:37

I've just watched the programme, and I think it fits in well with what we're trying to do with Paul-it certainly fits with my own experience that I never really feel hungry, and never really feel full. I just keep on eating till th edish is empty, or I can't be bothered to get up and get some more!

I can well believe that this 'never empty, never full' is down to defective hormones, but that doesn't mean that we can't do anything about it. The programme went on to say that people who have gastric bypass surgery report that they start to feel hungry, and full afterwards, as though the surgery has had an effect on their brain.

The doctor at the very end of the programme was talking about his belief that in time, we will be able to replicate that effect without the surgery-which is just what we are doing with Paul, isn't it? We are, effectively, 'changing our minds', and training ourselves to feel hunger and feel the full feeling, and to do something about those feelings.

I felt very positive after the programme, and I can definately say that I'm feeling more hungry feelings lately, and certainly eating less. I noticed today that, although I cleared my plate, I only put small amounts on it in the first place (we serve from dishes at the table, so self-regulate that way). A week ago, I would have made sure I had put large potatoes in the oven for myself and DH, but today, I just put the same size for us all. Then, at the table, I only took one to begin with, and only a small portion of beans, as I knew I could always go back for more later.

It made me feel in control, and very good about myself! Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/03/2012 07:22

That horizon was so interesting, and I think it really showed why PMK works over the longterm, because you are actually reprogramming how you respond to food.

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/03/2012 09:16

Well, I've watched the Horizon programme now and I found it really depressing for several reasons

  1. it was too reductionist - from their point of view people are just the sum of their hormones which I don't believe to be true.
  1. they said willpower didn't stand a chance against hormones conveniently forgetting that willpower is as hormone driven as the desire to eat.
  1. it was about one surgeon by another so not surprising that the end result was that surgery worked by somehow (they don't know how) miraculously triggering a hormone change in the brain. It didn't seem they explained the lines of causality very well to me. Since they don't know what causes the changes maybe the hormone changed in the brain due to the patient being more aware of the feelings of fullness and hunger because their 'stomach' was not so large and therefore less food was needed to trigger those feelings. Also, because they have had major surgery is it not possible that they are no longer stimulated by pictures of food because they knew that food would make them feel unwell.
  1. They conveniently forget that we are not ruled by our hormones and that we can ignore the effects they have on us. We don't after all go round having sex just because we are at our most fertile time of the month, we chose when we have sex. It is even worse for men who are always hormonally driven to reproduce so should be having sex with anything that moves all the time if hormones are the root. Whatever happened to the concept of free will?!
  1. They came down too firmly on the side of nature in the nature/nurture debate and said too little about environmental factors imo.
  1. Diets may not work but people do manage to lose weight without them and without having their stomachs bypassed. We know how it happens but the assumption was that you require medical intervention to make it happen and PMK shows that you don't.
  1. I will stop before I get too ranty but basically I thought it was one sided. It is of course only one theory but if I let it it would make feel like that there was no point in doing PMK tbh which is not good.
BigBoobiedBertha · 23/03/2012 09:17

Blush I did go on a bit.

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2012 09:47

Hello Everyone !!! Smile It's nice to be back!!!! I' just done quite a lot of reading on here so-
WELCOME to-

thetokengirl sounds like you 've made a good start!
imistill
malorymad Ref. 3 meals i always take an old honey pot or whatever with me when out with some chewy nuts (macadamias or walnuts etc) and or sulatanas etc. and an apple and a small bottle of water. so i've got a snack with me 'cos on the PMK you often feel hungry in between meals. Fruit is brilliant because it goes through quickly and you feel hungry for yr meal.

Solo · 23/03/2012 12:58

Wow! BBB just Wow

Welcome home pp :)

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2012 14:09

Thanks solo Guess what? I came back yesterday for DH's b\day and yours is also the day after the 1st day of spring!! Hope you had a good one Smile here are some flowers Thanks.

I hope you all had a good Mum's Day; I was by the sea with my mum and sister and it was nice only the DCs couldn't make it.

ali Good news about the bridesmaid dress that was yr target wasn't it?

arfur Ref. personal details- I'm 61 and been on PMK for 1 and a half yrs. with blips and have lost nearly 3 stone; gone from almost a 16 dress size to an M&S 10!!

amistill As you can tell from the above THIS WORKS VERY WELL INDEED!!! I'll have to do it forever but it suits me fine so no probs!! If you combine it with walking fast and bus and train using the weight literally DROPS OFF Grin

Kinky Glad yr DD is improved. I think someone said the DVDs are good. I'm not sure though if they're like the Telly progs. they'll be helpful.

crazy PMK doesn't like obsessional weighing and I agree. I tend to go by my
clothes and what I look like in the mirror and weigh once every 6 months or so.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/03/2012 14:33

pp - it was my target. It is a little snug so I do need to shift a bit more.

BBB - it is really interesting, because it made me feel that there was every point in doing PMK, because it is attempting to do the same thing as the surgery is doing. It just means I have to listen harder for the hunger cues than someone who has a 'better' (mentally there are huuuge inverted commas around that Wink' hormonal set up.

I did really well at breakfast, and then the tiredness has kicked in and I've eaten too much lunch. I stopped myself though, and in a few minutes it is school run time so a nice 15 minute walk to clear the cobwebs.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 23/03/2012 20:53

Well hello all and welcome to the newbies :)
So I've been a bit quiet because...I've been admitted to hospital! You know I'd not been right for about two weeks - I went back to my GP Wed still feeling ill - Abdo pain and fever - she was worried about it being my appendix so had me admitted! No obvious cause as yet, still think it might be my appendix. Watch and wait. Will be here all weekend! Won't be running the 10k on Sunday that's for sure...

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/03/2012 21:16

Oh no, HaveaLittlefaithbaby. What a bummer! I know you thought you had a uti for a while but who'd have thought about appendix? It is notoriously difficult to diagnose though, so they say.

On the plus side I bet you have been losing weight although not in a way that anybody would recommend I am sure. Have you just had pain or an upset stomach as well? I remember my brother being as sick as a dog with his appendix so if you have been dealing with that for the last 2 weeks you have my massive sympathy (well you do anyway). You must be knackered and sore and thoroughly fed up.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you are getting on. I hope it is sorted soon. ((((((big hugs for a speedy recovery)))))

ppeat - welcome back. Smile

Solo - was that a bad wow? Blush I do feel slightly embarrassed although in my defence the thread that foreveronadiet linked to really annoyed me - as a result of that programme the OP totally wrote off the power of the mind and the ability to think yourself thin and equated the attempts to try to be like saying you have to fight cancer when actually you have no control. Load of old cods obviously - not the same thing at all. You can't cure cancer with the power of your mind but you can lose weight. It coloured reaction to my views of the programme which I thought was flawed anyway.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 23/03/2012 21:54

Initially I was eating a fair amount and not exercising so I think I gained some. Now I have no appetite! I wasn't being sick but I have this evening. The pain started near my kidney and has moved to my stomach area. Maybe I did have a uti and then my appendix wanted attention too?! Just waiting for a diagnosis.
