The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

Happy Mothers' Day to you too!

Hope everybody is doing OK.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/03/2012 18:03

Happy mother's day everyone!

I have eaten too much.

But I tried on my bridesmaid dress for May earlier and it fits. I want to lose half a stone by then because then it will look fabulous Smile

MaloryMad · 18/03/2012 18:54

Hi everyone. I'm slowly reading through this thread - started it last week and I'm still at it! Grin.

Anyway, I have some questions, hopefully some of you can help me out.

LSS- need to lose at least 5st. Would be ecstatic if I can lose 3st by the end of this year.
I have tried every diet under the sun (including PMK before) and I just can't stick to them and even worse, when I do try to diet or cut stuff out I just overeat even more. Rebellious mode kicks in. I've done low carb before and that does help kill cravings and does shift weight fast BUT when I go off that, I go off it big time and stuff myself with all the stuff I couldn't have on the diet. By the time I've finished, I weigh even more than I did in the first place.

So my questions are

do any of you follow this but in a more structured way, ie eat a traditional 3 meals a day? (I found when I did it before that I was so out of touch with my hunger, I couldn't tell when I was hungry. Then when I did realise I was hungry I was absolutely starving hungry and would eat everything in sight. So I wondered if I can make this work but by planning 3 meals a day. I will stop eating when I'm full. I will eat what I want (no low fat cottage cheese etc!) but I need a bit of structure).

do you think it's possible to lose about 3st by the end of the year? (got a big holiday in December and want to look and feel better than I did on holiday Christmas 2011)

sorry it got long!

Happy Mothers Day to all shrinking ladies! My treat was a peaceful hour with the CD and book to reindoctrinate myself. It's worked a treat and I'm full of excitement! The visualisation thing works so well. I now have a glorious image of a very slender, well dressed me pushing my glorious old pram through the village with two charming beautiful children. No snot smears or tantrums, obviously. I've tapped away my genuine fear of some shortbread rabbits toddler and I made this afternoon.

Malory, you could so lose 3st by the end of the year, if you follow the rules. Paul says the more precise your objective, the easier it is to achieve. Re the three meals, I'd worry that was rather against the principle of the thing, i.e. you'd be eating when not necessarily hungry and not eating when hungry. Obviously, if you can train yourself to feel hungry at those times only, then great. I've photocopied the hunger scale and stuck it up in the kitchen, which I've found useful to refer to when I can't tell how hungry I am.

KinkyDorito · 18/03/2012 20:49

Thank you again for all of your kind and supportive words Thanks Thanks.

I hope everyone has had a lovely Mother's Day.

I'm going to attempt to go to work tomorrow as DD seems a bit brighter.

My eating has been awful for the last couple of days but, having just crammed a Domino's at dinnertime, I got a phone call to ask if I'd done the team entry for Race for Life yet. I now have 8 weeks to get my act together and try to run the 5k. The last time I ran, it was 1400 metres at school and I nearly had a heart attack. I am on my best behaviour now as it really makes me feel like I am doing something to help people affected by this shitty disease.

I haven't been using PMK recently, but I am just getting into a mindfulness for depression CD with meditations, that includes mindful eating. I'm going to try this for a couple of weeks, although I still love PMK and will return once I'm in the swing of this new one. I just wanted to try and develop the methods I'm using to improve how I'm dealing with low mood.

MaloryMad · 18/03/2012 20:51

Thanks Nonny. That's what I can't quite get my head round about eating when you're hungry, it's not always practical. How do you all work it round other commitments, like eating with the family/friends etc? Also I work at home 2 days a week so no problem there, but the other 3 days I am in the office and have to eat lunch when they tell me to...so I'm kind of wondering how I'd make it work..
I can see that it's brilliant and is definitely something you can live with forever, not like going on and off a diet. Just not sure how I'd handle the practicalities.

arfur · 18/03/2012 22:07

Evening all! Happy mothers day to all of you. I was pondering today whether it would be rude/too nosey of me to suggest a sort of role call for everyone to list how long they've been doing PM how much they've lost and if you like your age and how much you want to lose??? Just think it might give those (like me) who are just starting out (and those who are struggling a bit) a bit of a boost and also any lurkers the kick they need to get started? If you all ignore me I will accept its too invasive and not mention it again Grin I will start really hoping i'm not being too bossy, dont want to offend/upset anyone

arfur · 18/03/2012 22:10

Im arfur have been Pauling for just over 4 weeks (altho second time for me) and I have lost 4 pounds (which altho is not huge amount I am very happy with). I am 41 and need want to lose around 2 - 2.5 stone. Blush

Solo · 18/03/2012 23:08

I'm Solo, I will be 48 on Wednesday and I have been doing PMK for 13 months and have lost 29 1/2lbs. Can't really remember how long it took me, but I occasionally waver and have regained up to 12lbs, but am glad to say that I'm back on track at the loss above and would like to lose at least 14lbs more, maybe even 28, but I'm taking each lb loss as it goes. 2 dress sizes off now though, so very encouraging, though I do get bogged down by self sabotage; I'm trying to get past that.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/03/2012 23:17

Arfur fab idea. Will do mine in the morning on the laptop, I'm on my phone in bed atm and I must listen to the CD!

Solo · 18/03/2012 23:20

Well done on the dress Ali :) you will look fabulous!

arfur · 19/03/2012 12:04

Wow solo that really is amazing well done!

Solo · 19/03/2012 12:17

Hmmm... amazing would be my ability to get past the self sabotage and carry on losing weight! but thank you, I do appreciate that 2st has been lost.

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/03/2012 12:30

I am Alibaba. I have been Pauling for 10 months and I have lost 14.5 pounds, which has equated to very nearly 2 dress sizes. The biggest plus for me though is that my relationship with food has been transformed, my portion sizes have halved, and I'm no longer in denial about how much I was eating before. I used to genuinely think I didn't eat a huge amount, when in reality I was probably eating about 1000 calories a day too much.
I have 2 DSs, 3.8, and 11.5 months - I am still BFing the youngest so I do get really hungry, but I've learned not to use it as an excuse to just stuff my face continuously.
I have definitely had wobbles along the way, but I am getting there slowly but surely and really enjoying my life while I'm doing it.

Thetokengirl · 19/03/2012 12:35

Hi. I'm 42 and would like to lose 2 1/2 to 3 stone.
I've tried various things in the past and was quite sucessful with SW, but can't get motivated at the moment.
I've been reading these threads and have decided to give it a go.
I've ordered the book and CD on Amazon, so hopefully they will arrive tomorrow.
Does anyone have an tips or words of encouragement for me, as I think I need all the help I can get Smile

TIA

MrsOlf · 19/03/2012 12:37

Great idea.
I'm MrsOlf, I'm 37 and have been PMing for 2.5 weeks. That time has included 2 transatlantic flights on my own with DDs (3 and 5) and two lots of jet lag, as well some home sickness now, so I'm delighted to say I've lost 4lbs. Holiday at the end of this week so fingers crossed I can keep it off...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/03/2012 12:37

Solo you will get there my love. Every time I hit a new 'lowest weight' I seem to bounce up a couple of pounds again and then things level off and it come off properly.

Malory - this is a question that I think every single one of us had at the beginning, wondering (and worrying) about how PMK would fit in with family life/work commitments and time constraints around how and when you eat.
From my own perspective, I have found that once I got underway and really learnt to recognise true hunger rather than boredom, or tiredness, or sadness, or any of the other things that made me want to eat - that I actually fell into 3 meals a day quite naturally.
I am never actually, truly hungry in the evening after my dinner, but I've always been a snacker. If I follow PMK and resist the snacks, then I am always hungry for breakfast. When I then eat a good breakfast, it keeps my going to lunch with perhaps an apple and a cup of tea, and so on.
If you are really starving, but you know that family dinnertime is in an hour - then just have something small to take the edge off and then you will be hungry for your dinner.
I promise that once you start doing it, you will stop worrying about it. I was really stressed about it initially but now it isn't a problem at all.

And I definitely think you can lose 3 stone by the end of the year. I've been a proper slowcoach, but my body hangs onto weight when I am BFing and it has been more important to me to keep making slow progress than lose quickly and then give up.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/03/2012 12:39

MrsOlf well done - flying is a bugger for messing with your weight!

tokengirl - my tip is to listen to the CD as often as you can, it is the key.

HeyNonnyNo · 19/03/2012 13:51

Hello. I'm HeyNonnyNo. I've been Pauling for a couple of months and have so far lost about 8lbs, I think. It's been a rocky start but such a positive experience, because it's addressing the causes of my big bottom rather than treating symptoms. I'm 30, with another stone to loose. I have a 3 yo DD and a 10 mo DS. Like Ali I'm still breastfeeding. So good to hear everyone's stories. There is so much encouragement and support on this thread, so thank you everybody.

KinkyDorito · 19/03/2012 16:45

I am 32 and have been PMK since January. I have lost 20lbs, although I have been stuck for a few weeks and on/off. I'm back on track now. I want to lose another 3st yet.

KinkyDorito · 19/03/2012 16:46

Have we had a verdict on how useful the DVDs are yet? I can't remember who bought them from ebay?

MaloryMad · 19/03/2012 22:11

Brilliant Ali, that's what I hope would happen in time, that I get normal hunger cues (definitely lacking at the mo!) and can pretty much eat 3 meals a day. Just be 'normal' really!

Everyone, thanks for your stories, very inspiring.

amistillsexy · 19/03/2012 22:56

Hi All. Can I join?

I read through this thread last week, and was really inspired by you all.

You inspired me so much that although I bought 2 almond croisants for my breakfast on my way to a meeting last Wednesday, they were still on the kitchen counter on Saturday morning, as I never really fancied them Shock .
I'd bought some fruit and nut mix to nibble on during the meeting, but I just had some of those for my breakfast and left the rest in the car Shock Shock .

I've bought the book and the CD set, but I have some questions about that. Does anyone actually use the CDs from the set? What's the difference between them and the one that comes with the book? Especially 'I can Make You Thin' from the book and 'Programme Your Mind to Slim Your Body'? Is one better than the other, or are they interchangable?

I'm also finding it hard not to clear my plate. I'm getting through this by being very conscious about what I actually put on it in the first place, but I still can't give up that delicious last mouthful! Any tips?

Sorry to bombard you all with questions, but I know you are the ones with all the answers! Grin

Solo · 19/03/2012 23:42

Hi amistillsexy :) you won't be asking that question soon enough! you'll be saying hell 'yes! I am still sexy!' just so you know Grin

I'd say that all the discs are good to listen to as sometimes you really need to give yourself a boost on a particular thing.

I too find leaving something quite hard to do unless I'm totally in the zone, but smaller portions are a great help ime.

And well done on a great start too!

crazynell · 20/03/2012 00:04

Hi all i'm crazynell, so called because i am a little crazy in a scatty kind of way and also the last bit is what my brothers and nephews call me - i'm verrry old...I've joined this thread last week and got the book at the weekend

I've lost weight on and off over a long time - i'm really good on weightwatchers and i always do well on it and have hardly any trouble keeping to it - i get a bit obsessive, then about a year later having kept it off the weight starts to creep back on - i rebel, i know i'm rebelling against myself but i get to a point where i just think sod it, i can't be bothered with diets, i want to eat normal, i don't want to be thinking about food all the time I'm not really overweight - i'm 5' 7" and about 11 st 7lb, maybe more, i've stopped getting on the scales, i know i don't eat like normal people - whatever that is - i'm greedy, i want to keep going when i start eating although i do eat fairly healthily, except for all my coffee and cakes in cafes whether i'm hungry or not, its just i think i've got to have them - like an obsession or an addiction to sugar. then it slowly creeps back on - i've got to change my attitude towards food and eating - i'm greedy, rebellious, self sabotaging.

I want to get down to a weight i feel comfortable with for my height and age - between 10st 7 and 11 st. I've got the book and the cd and i've also downloaded the iPhone app - i've listened to the cd once so far - i'm aiming to listen 5 days out of 7 - i've tried to stick to the rules today

I'm just wondering about maintaining the loss afterwards as that can be my downfall - what does Paul suggest?
