The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

Hideous cold is depressing me so need positive healthy thoughts, anyone? Cup of tea yes, cake no.

Solo · 09/03/2012 13:47

Or have a hot chocolate? it'll take the edge off your want for cake and it's a drink too...

Where are you all?

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 00:11

I've just got back from my holidays :)
Weird day food wise, had a full Welsh breakfast (yum) but then no snacks til 3pm, one Freddo frog then dinner. Have eaten two creme eggs and mint m&ms. So lots of chocolate. Didn't plan to skip lunch, just wasn't hungry til tea at 5.
I like a hot chocolate as a filler if I want something sweet but am not very hungry. If you are coldy spendy, I'd recommend hot lemon and honey. Vitamin c and soothing :)

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 00:44

Oh it's phoenix btw I've name changed!

MrsOlf · 10/03/2012 08:17

So, I've been using the PM app since Monday and despite jet lag and looking after 2 small children without DP, and I feel much more relaxed than I would usually. I think I'm eating less chocolate but have no scales to see if it's working.
The app has the trance on it and videos of the tapping thing (which I must start to use...) not sure I'm snacking less - but does this take some time to build up? Or could just be jet lag/small children induced exhaustion!
Smile

Solo · 10/03/2012 10:22

Thought it must be you Phee :) good holiday?

Mrs yes, IME it does take some time to build up to. Keep going! you are doing fine.

Otoh, I'm doing badly ~ at least I was yesterday. Today is a new day Grin

OP posts:
HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 10:35

Yes, luffly break. Was nice to get away to the luxury of a 4* hotel. Pauling made it great too, enjoyed the food but didn't over indulge.
Sounds like a great start Mrs. The app sounds good. I'm tempted....Yes, keep going. Somewhere along the line it becomes habit.
I'm not doing too well the last couple of days, af has just arrived :( all I want is sweet things!

ppeatfruit · 10/03/2012 12:05

Good nearly afternoon everyone! phee Hope you had good holyers Smile does that mean you're over your fire problems now? that's brill unless yr new name applies to the rebuilding Grin.

Yes it IS quiet Solo hopefully not too many newbies have fallen off the P.M. wagon. They DO know you can get back on again with no probs. I hope! It's the late half term probably. Kinky ? Everything okay?

MrsOlf the thing with snacking on P.M. is that what I eat for a meal now is what I and esp. DH would have called a snack 'cos if you're eating slowly and mindfully you just CAN'T eat too much. Also while your body is digesting yr hopefully nourishing snack it uses up calories just doing that! That's one of the reasons why NOT eating makes you fat !!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 12:26

ppeat well the house currently looks...well, like a bomb was dropped on it! No plaster on the living room or kitchen walls! But I'm happy because we're rearranging to get a smaller kitchen but nice dining space :)
With phoenix, I liked the name but somehow if it relayed souly to the fire, it almost defines me too much, y'know? I was faith before, multi meaning: it's from one of my fave films Kelly's Heroes, it's because we're ttc and because I'm a Christian. Now I can see light at the end of the tunnel fire wise I felt it was tome to change back.
I find I don't snack much with Pauling because I tend to wait to eat til I get hungry enough for a proper meal. Sometimes I'll eat what would have been a snack as a meal now. I'm simply eating less by eating when I'm hungry.

spendthrift · 10/03/2012 16:57

Hadn't thought about hot chocolate. Not generally a fan but if it helps to get rid of craving for instant gratification will go for it as well as tapping. Yes to the other hot drink but at moment cba to get our of bed as just fall over.

Dh bringing tea and soup. What a hero. And hot water bottles. Complete star.

Lovely weather in Spendthriftville. Hope everyone else is enjoying it.

Deadsouls · 10/03/2012 17:35

Hello! I have been reading this thread with interest as I am getting to the end of my tether with my overeating habits....When I start overeating and eating crap it really almost like a runaway train and I don't know when it's going to stop.

Now I did try WW with Propoints, I lasted 2days! By the second day I felt so so hungry, lightheaded and dizzy and in the end scoffed toast and chocolate, just cause I think my blood sugar was so low. Plus something about the diet doesn't feel right to me.

This is because it doesn't necessarily encourage healthy eating, I don;t believe. I ate more unheathily because I was eating WW hula hoops, WW biscuits and the like because they had the points written on them. Surely that is not right....my blood sugar levels I think were haywire, cause I was so hungry and then satiating that hunger with fruit (and more fruit), or a WW chcolate bar....(more sugar). I cannot believe that this is a healthy way to eat.....plus you do become obsessed by points and how many you have left, getting panicky because you only have x amount left. Surely this is not a healthy relationship to have with food...and then what happens when you come off points?

Anyhows.....so is Paul Mckenna approach successful? Helpful? Healthy??

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 18:01

I think it's healthy. You eat what you want...when you're hungry. Also he refers the the principle of not eating cardboardy junk food, but smaller amounts of food that taste good. By chewing well you feel fuller quickly :)
I too did WW, back in the switch days. I found it depressing because the thinner you get, the less you can eat! There's such a lure of the WW branding. It screams buy this and you won't get fat! But of actually you need to go back to basics - think about it, 50 years ago obesity was nothing like it is now...and if you think about what's changed, it's the addition of cars to families, we walk less than we used to and we eat crap tasting low fat food that we think is better for us. In fact, research shows on average if you give someone low fat food rather than normal, they'll eat 30% more, often equating to more calories than if they'd just had the normal stuff straight off!
today when I have been well and truly off the wagon eating junk food because it's day one of af, back on it tomorrow!

spendthrift · 10/03/2012 18:16

I think pm is eminently sensible and is what people without eating issues know instinctively. Ie eat when you're hungry, only eat what you like and stop when you're full. Like toddlers and my dh.

It's getting back to that simplicity that's hard.

Have just eaten cake brought back by dh. Failed to stop when could have but now completely sated. So feeling good about recognising that as opposed to wanting more more more.

Solo · 10/03/2012 18:43

Deadsouls you have come to the right place if you want to lose weight properly!! so welcome :)

Hi to everyone else too!

OP posts:
HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 19:19

I've just declined dinner on the grounds that I'm not hungry because I've eaten so much junk food today so even on bad days, it's still sinking in.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/03/2012 21:43

Faith - you have AF, eating is allowed. Especially when you wish there were no AF.

I'm being a bit disastrous atm, I can't seem to find my hungry/not hungry point.

Upset yummy today though, NOT fun!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 10/03/2012 22:01

Thanks Ali
With an upset tummy it is very difficult to know how you feel hunger wise...just go with it. Hope you feel better soon.

crazynell · 11/03/2012 00:18

i'm interested in PM - i've done ww on and off and always do well on it and have hardly any trouble keeping to it - i get a bit obsessive on it, then about a year later having kept it off the weight starts to creep back on - i rebel, i know i'm rebelling against myself but i get to a point where i just think sod it, i can't be bothered with diets, i want to eat normal,, i don't want to be thinking about food all the time I'm not really overweight - i'm 5' 7" and about 11 st 7lb, maybe more, i've stopped getting on the scales, i know i don't eat like normal people - whatever that is - i'm greedy, i want to keep going when i start eating although i do eat fairly healthily, except for all my coffee and cakes in cafes whether i'm hungry or not, it just i think i've got to have them - like an obsession or an addiction to sugar. Will PM be good for me, will it help me?

Solo · 11/03/2012 02:07

Crazynell yes PMK can help you :).

You sound like you are self sabotaging, which happens to most, if not all of us at some time or other, but it's not insurmountable; you can get past it and if/when you find that you really can't? just start again straight after your blip or as soon as you feel able. We don't judge anyone on this thread. We support and encourage one another and you can do very well indeed on this way of life :). So welcome and get stuck in :)

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 11/03/2012 08:14

Morning all! Smile let me add to the newbies that THIS thread is as Solo says unmumsnettily friendly, kind and cuddly (we're not embarrassed tp give hugs are we Ali?) We don't criticise blips in P.M. which we ALL have ,or lapses in grammar or spelling Smile.

welcome crazy and Deadsouls IMO there are not "normal" or abnormal eaters; we have too much choice of rubbishy food, even without the W.W. shxx stuff, thus creating addictions, for that. But if you listen to P.M. carefully his way of eating makes the most sense of all;I combine it with a Blood type diet which I've been on for many years before so I DO want healthy food but of course I sometimes can't resist the good choc. cake in cafes like you DeadGrin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/03/2012 10:02

crazynell - yes PMK could help you! The most important thing that has happened to me this last 10 months is that I have sorted out my relationship with food. The fact that I have lost over a stone in that time is almost incidental.
I think we all have blips, and off days, but the difference between PMK and something like WW is that there is no feeling of 'oh well I've gone over my points, so I may as well eat half a ton of food'. You just pick up where you left off, no guilt or anything.

The scales say 13st 1.5lbs this morning. This is the lowest weight I have been in 10 years.

bellastella · 11/03/2012 10:45

morning, lovely day here in norfolk Smile went to great yarmouth yesterday and had just the two hot fresh doughnuts! gave the other two to oh and ds2, an improvement on last time when i had doughnuts-a bag all to myself!

i do like that no food is banned and that i'm supposed to eat what i fancy. it has made me feel a bit funny about cooking though. the vast majority of meal making is my job and with me not fancying our usual meals or not fancying eating at meal times, it's been a bit tricky. do other people have ths issue?

i really need to drink more water(amongst many other things i need to do more of!). i'm not overly keen on plain water and have been having hot elderflower squash which is nice. what do other people have?

enjoy the rest of your weekends x

bellastella · 11/03/2012 10:47

ali you've reached your lowest weight for 10 years? that deserves many Grin and some lovely Thanks x

Solo · 11/03/2012 11:08

Yay! Ali Grin
bella we think it's more eat anything rather than 'you can't eat that because you're on a diet '. So, if you want to eat a bag of crisps because you are hungry, you can. I cook up whatever we want as a family and we have it...the key is following the rules :)
