The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

It sort of works itself out. You'll learn to have just a small snack to keep you satisfied until family meal time.

Don't put obstacles in front of yourself before you've even started. Smile

Hi I'm phee. I get what you're saying about meals, but if you focus on eating dinner together, you'll wait til you're hungry enough for dinner! Like many of us on here will wait to eat breakfast or have a small portion at lunch nut personally as long as I don't eat much when I get in in the afternoon I am hungry for dinner when I sit down with DH. I'd say the other thing if your OH likes cooking is to ensure he's supportive with this - it won't work if he gets downcast that you're not eating as much of his food as normal. The important thing to clarify to him is that by eating consciously his food will taste fantastic Grin . You need to make sure he gets that it's about your health.
You can do it and we're proof that it works but like mychild you need to come in with a positive attitude :)

sanguinechompa · 04/03/2012 22:35

Thank you very much for your responses - much appreciated.

Mychild I take the point about being positive! V. important I know. I'll give it a go with an open mind!

Phee >"it won't work if he gets downcast that you're not eating as much of his food as normal".

You've hit the nail on the head there! Dh acts as though someone has died if (for once) I suggest having a quick bowl of soup for supper or the occasional salad. He works really hard and cooking is his only hobby/outlet: he lives, eats and breathes food. (And we live in a country where food is v. v. important too.) There is absolutely no chance that he would hold up dinner for me if he was hungry and I wasn't. I can see I am going to have to make this work around him (ie take more control over shopping and cooking). Good tip about highlighting conscious eating however. I'll work on that!!

Thanks again both of you!

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 04/03/2012 22:50

Sanguine (love the name!) Does your DH think you need to lose any weight?

What's his weight like?

sanguinechompa · 04/03/2012 22:56

We both need to lose weight and dh acknowledges that. He doesn't put any pressure on me to lose weight though.

In an ideal world, I agree it would be good for both of us to follow the system but doubt that dh will comply. Probably more realistic if we follow our separate paths with this ...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/03/2012 23:06

Sanguine I think we've all had that question at the start if you were to trawl back through the threads Smile

My DH has lost weight through me Pauling because I am the one who buys the food and plans the meals (SAHM), so he has benefitted and I've also talked to him about the rules etc.

We eat very simply during the week. Cold roast with fresh veg etc, casserole, quick pasta dishes, oven baked fish, and probably one or two nights DH and I will just have soup or eggs on toast or a BLT sandwich or something. Weekends we cook more complicated things and tend to eat slightly more.

Mychild that is my take on the 'eat what you want' part too. Anything else is too impractical and expensive!

ppeatfruit · 05/03/2012 08:19

Morning all!! Smile solo and Phee P.M. was on the Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear and he hypnotised Richard Hammond (you don't see him doing it so it can't be copied) Then P.M. and R.H. are in a car which R.H is so under hypnosis he has totally forgotten how to drive !Back in the studio P.M. gets R.H. to think a little kiddie car is his new Porsche and he perches in it and goes brrrrmmm (as he was instructed to to do). it was extraordinary!

sanguine do you live in France? we live there 50% of the time too! 'cos yr DH sounds like mine a bit. We have D.Cs in England so don't have to worry about them they're like us when they come over though! but 'cos Dh eats much more meat than me and he works from home we tend to cook separately but eat together (not all the time though there's no special times
IFYSWIM). He is MUCH more overweight than me!

As you say they DO pick up the signs I TRY no to go on too much!!

Solo · 05/03/2012 10:21

I wonder if it'll be on again...

OP posts:
Solo · 05/03/2012 10:21

Morning btw!

OP posts:
spendthrift · 05/03/2012 10:54

Morning all.

Sanguine, cutting down on portion size helps and he's less likely to notice. And I'm trying to leave food on the plate. But completely agree the family food thing. But with pm you can at least eat what everyone else is. And make appreciative noises.

BigBoobiedBertha · 05/03/2012 10:59

Morning!

You could look it up on iPlayer Solo.

Solo · 05/03/2012 11:01

Hmmmm...good idea BBB Grin is it on BBC then?

OP posts:
BigBoobiedBertha · 05/03/2012 11:01

Oh no! Scrap that Solo. It was Alex James from Blur who was last night Star in a Reasonably Priced Car so ppeat must have been watching another channel, not the BBC.

Solo · 05/03/2012 11:02

Grin Oh that's made me laugh!!! I quite like Top Gear, but get to watch very little on TV.

OP posts:
PhoenixFromTheFlames · 05/03/2012 11:05

I've seen that one before, was hilarious! Must have been on Dave.

BigBoobiedBertha · 05/03/2012 11:17

I quite like Top Gear too. I keep quiet about it on here as Jeremy Clarkson seems to provoke much angst on here. Can't think why people take him seriously though - he means to wind people up. Stupid to fall for it really imo

I used to know the producer of Top Gear actually. We were at the same university. He used to drive a beat up Datsun.

ppeatfruit · 05/03/2012 13:02

Yeah Phee It was on Dave! Solo DH has just said if you google P.M. on Top gear it'll come up for you. BBB Yes he loves winding people up and a lot them don't understand irony J.C.'s just got a big mouth that IMO he should think before using !!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/03/2012 14:10

I like Top Gear too, and I cannot understand why people can't grasp that the J.C we see on the telly is a character. Makes me Grin when people on here start frothing at the mouth about things he has said/done.

I seem to be back in the groove today. Lowest weight so far (by 0.2 Hmm) on the scales this morning despite Creme Egg Gate, and I've just left half my lunch.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/03/2012 16:43

I have had to go and buy a belt for my smallest jeans Grin Grin Grin

It is leopard print because that is all Sainsbury's had, but I can cover that with my top.

Solo · 05/03/2012 17:19

Grin Just watched it! but Hammond came out of hypnosis too soon in the car! makes me a bit Hmm sceptical about whether he was actually under!!

OP posts:
Solo · 05/03/2012 17:19

Well done Ali :) I too have gone up another hole in my belt!!

OP posts:
PhoenixFromTheFlames · 05/03/2012 19:06

Me too! I realised this morning. I bought size large belt at New Year, needed them for my favourite now rather baggy jeans and I went for the next hole, there isn't one! Well done to all of us!
I'm very proud to say even though I'm on holiday (in Llandudno) we went running tonight! We ran along the front, looking out to sea and I went up the pier. It was glorious! :)

sanguinechompa · 05/03/2012 19:28

Hello again - sorry - don't want to prolong my hi-jacking of this thread but first chance I have had to get on here today and wanted to say 'thank you' for replies.

alibabab thank you - will look at previous threads. V. encouraging to know that you AND your dh have lost weight through 'Pauling'!! Congrats to you and Phoenix on smaller waist-size!! Getting inspired here!!

ppeatfruit thank you - we're in Belgium not France - food is fantastic (unfortunately for my waist line!!) Bread is particularly good!!. It is hard having dh's with good culinary skills isn't it???

I'm just a bit paranoid about all this because at 8 yrs my dd is rake thin and I don't want to give her ideas about weight-loss that don't even need to be crossing her radar currently.

spendthrift good point about being able to eat the same as everyone else on PM. I guess it is not going to traumatise dd for life if we eat meals at the same time but I modify my plate slightly ie more veg/salad than dd and dh - smaller portion etc.

Thanks for all the feedback and tips everyone - much appreciated!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 05/03/2012 20:40

Thank you sanguine!
Your daughter doesn't really need to be too aware of you doing Pauling....after a
L, all you're doing is eating when you're hungry, eating what you want, stopping when you're full and eating consciously. Actually it's healthier for her to see than you over-eating or going on some faddy diet!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 05/03/2012 20:41

Um, after all, not after a L. Stoopid iPad!
