Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

gettingalifenow I too was absolutley dreading the 20 minutes but you can do it - honest if old lady lardy arse I can you can. you will just plough on through and amaze yourself, then collapse and gasp and laugh aloud (then curse your leaden legs on r1w6Confused or sprint through with wings on your heels laughing at the lithe young students trailing in your wake)

rusmum · 22/02/2012 18:09

Week4 again tonight x

RebeccaMumsnet · 22/02/2012 18:53

Thanks onehand, I did W8R1 yesterday and including warm up and cool down finally hit the 5k. Whoop!
I ran on the heath and felt like a rl runner and everything ! Grin

How's everyone else getting on? The jump from 25 to 28 is nothing and I heart Laura even more.

gettingalifenow · 22/02/2012 19:32

Thanks for the encouragement dotty and yehudi - I will let you know what the morrow brings!

OneLieIn · 22/02/2012 20:32

W5r2 tonight. I am putting it on here so I have to go out. There, said it. Have to go.

mazzi2fly · 22/02/2012 20:52

Hi Everyone! I've just done Wk6r2 after a week off as I've been unwell. I'm beginning to feel better now, and DH and the girls wanted me out of the way for a bit while they wrapped my presents for tomorrow. (Shh it's my birthday - the big 30!)
So off I went, I managed ok and have that lovely feeling afterwards - I Feel so good!
I've got 25mins on Friday - gulp...

debka · 22/02/2012 21:08

Grump Angry

cinnamongreyhound · 22/02/2012 21:33

Well done RebeccaMumsnet, mazzi2fly and Debka!!

Get out there Jnice just think how many extra calories you'll burn by running with the buggy! Also think how fast you'll be without it! I ran yesterday with full on wind in my face, be glad you have sunshine :)

rusmum · 22/02/2012 21:43

Completed more of it did 2.5 2.5 (then 1 more) 3 and 5 ! Do better than last time. Will be on week 4 forever Sad the longer runs terrify me at the moment! Well done everyone- kept running!

OneLieIn · 22/02/2012 21:49

jnice get out there.

If I can go out in the dark drizzle, you can surely go out in the sunshine.

W5r2 done, it was ok really. But oh my god am I pouring with sweat! You know those fluorescent pink jackets (I am wearing one), well my face matches it perfectly now! GrinGrinGrin

LookMaOneHand · 22/02/2012 21:58

Well done, rusmum! You're doing amazingly well - it's so hard to stay motivated, especially when the progress through the nine weeks turns out to take a little longer than nine weeks :)

You will not be in week 4 forever Grin . You're right to stick with it until you know you can move on - once you get to week 5 and the first long run, the end is truly in sight.

cece · 22/02/2012 22:28

Just a quick check in. Been on 500 mile round trip in last 24 hours in order to attend a funeral of a family friend. Had no time for my run today, so hoping to tackle it tomorrow evening. Smile

Well done rebecca for hitting the 5km mark.

strawberrypie · 22/02/2012 22:30

W5R3 DONE.

It was tough but I'm glad I did it. Well done Cheesestring for finishing! What will you do for motivation now? Has anyone thought about joining a RL running club?

Jnice · 23/02/2012 00:55

Thank you all - wk6r2 completed Wink

dotty2 · 23/02/2012 09:32

W8R1 coming up later this morning. Relieved to hear rebecca say it's an easy step up from 25 mins. But is the music any better?? That's the question we need the answer to. (Persuaded DH to lend me his running watch so I can check speed and distance. He was reluctant - thinks I'm going to bring down his stats in his log but was eventually won round when he worked out how to delete a run... He is a statistician professionally, and his running data really motivates him and he should probably be married to QRGM really!)

turningitaround · 23/02/2012 09:44

Well done on w5r3 strawberries!

Am sick with jealousy at Rebecca's 5K, even with warm up and warm down I'm only averaging about 4.8K and that's in week 9 (sigh). I bought myself some proper running shoes yesterday - DH and I went for a fitting and the very nice shopassistant told me that he was surprised that I didn't already have ankle and knee trouble since my gait was so wonky. New trainers cost 150EUR, so didn't have any dosh left to splash out on the super, spangly running gear I'd promised myself for week 9 (double sigh). On the upside: they do have go-faster stripes. I really need to go faster.

So, should be graduating tomorrow evening and am wondering what to do now. It turns out that there are loads of smallish 5K and 7k races round here soon (including one in late April through the bluebell woods), but I would just so be the slowest, wouldn't I?

I am going to have another go at the dreaded shred in March (alternating it with running days because then it's cross training, right?). Will anyone else join me?

Finally, this thread has been just great. I'm really not sure I would have got so far without you all. Finally, finally: jnice just get out there, think of all the extra vitamin d you'll be gifting your little one. Do it for him/her Wink

dotty2 · 23/02/2012 10:04

turningitaround - I've been thinking about what to do when I graduate too. If we could agree on a new target or plan, maybe some of us could start a new thread? The combination of the plan and this thread has really worked for me. I'd be up for shredding but not quite as often as every other day. I've done the workouts zillions of times and find them really boring. So much prefer getting out of the house! (And you don't know you'd be the slowest in the race - and if you are, does it really matter? It's about you, not everyone else.)

Ifancyanewname · 23/02/2012 10:22

Hi all, I've been off for over a week with a cough and drama and ill children but I am ready to get back into it. Now I am just running with no walking I might try listening to my own music instead and just do the times. Has anyone got any good suggestions for running music. So far I have got black eyed peas "I got a feeling" and chris brown "beautiful people"

BettyBathroom · 23/02/2012 10:23

W6R2 done - as usual slow to begin with and then really pushed it at the end.

gettingalifenow · 23/02/2012 11:14

Yes, I did it! W5R2 - the first one with 20 mins non stop. Didn't think I'd make it. After the first 10 mins I aimed at 'one more minute' and that kept me going for the next 10.

Am feeling a bit smug but am prepared for the difficulties of week 6 next.....

dotty2 · 23/02/2012 12:23

Well done gettingalife - fantastic. It feels great when you start doing the longer runs because you can start to see the goal as achievable, don't you think?

I've just done W8R1, and it felt hard right from the beginning. Not sure why - just one of those days when my legs felt heavy. But as ever the thought of posting on here kept me going. Managed 4.4km, so need to up the speed a bit to do 5km in 30min, but that's the next challenge.

First day running without my jacket - and in fact I was too warm in my long sleeve top. Yikes - am going to have to buy a vest if this carries on and show the world my flabby upper arms.

gettingalifenow · 23/02/2012 12:29

Thanks dotty - you said I could do it and you were right!

I know what you mean about needing to run in a vest - but that would frighten the horses...

omydarlin · 23/02/2012 12:55

turningitaround I plan to do the Shred on alternate days too but only after ive got to at least week 7 ( is that the week that is non stop runs) don't ask me why - I had a good reason but i've forgotten it. I did 45 mins of Yoga on Saturday and my legs have been really achey this week so god knows what they will be like with the Shred (if my memory serves me right I had problems walking down the stairs last time). But I am desperate to get fitter and trimmer before summer which could possibly start as early as April this year!

I'm also interested in eating clean - I like to cook from scratch so this appeals to me. Has anyone done this before - I presume none of us are on very low carb diets otherwise we'd have no energey -true??

weblette · 23/02/2012 13:31

Ugh that was grim. W7R2 should have been ok but am running in sparkly new trainers which is always tricky with my vvv wonky feet plus did a PT session yesterday with a chum and I now ache for Britain.

Well done Dotty! What's 'eating clean' Omydarlin?
