Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

QueenRunningGeekMum there is loads of dog poo here, I think people haven't bothered to pick it up while the snows here! I managed 4k for the first time Monday and that was in 38 mins so about the same I reckon.

I still haven't been out, felt so much worse yesterday evening than the morning :(. Was hoping to go tonight but dh said I'd be stupid to as my body is still recovering but good to hear positives from those who've had a break as I've been running every other day with no break since we started.

Well done to everyone still going!!

FunnysInTheGarden · 17/02/2012 09:41

Metal how does that work with the phone and ipod. Does it buzz or something when you have done a certain distance? Or do you have to keep looking at it?

MetalSian · 17/02/2012 09:48

My ipod is in my arm band holder.
And I literally just leave my phone in my pocket and look at it afterwards.
But it does say out loud every 5 mins your speed, so if your music is low enough or you are running with one ear in you can hear it.

For me out of the last 9 or so runs Runkeeper has messed up twice which is a bit annoying. Such as yesterdays run it must have lost GPS signal because didn't record part of my run... then told me I was running 22mins a mile! Lying app xD.

But I like looking online at the details of my run after as it is more detailed than on the app.

There may be a better way to do it both on the same thing but this works fine for me.

weblette · 17/02/2012 10:13

Hello again! I've redone W6r2 three times to make sure I can get through r3 so will go for it on Sat. According to iMapMyRun I'm doing 4.61km in total each time, today I managed to get further along the route than ever before which felt good!

Well done to everyone still going Smile

yehudiwho · 17/02/2012 11:14

just downloaded runkeeper so will find out tomorrow that my old ladies shuffle jog gets me about 1/2 km ! only now in week 5 have even thought about how far I'm going - still really only interested in getting to the end

meggiesmummie · 17/02/2012 15:15

Sure this has been asked before but I'm about to finally get up and start c25k having been thinking about it for 6 months. Jeans don't fit anymore so diet and exercise no longer an option! Anyway, can anyone recommend what app to have on my iPhone that tells me what to do on each day. I've looked at a few things but not sure which is best.

LookMaOneHand · 17/02/2012 16:58

Hi everyone! I did w7r2 today.

I must say, it was a tough one! The exact same run as I did (much more easily, and at a faster pace) on Wednesday, but today just felt like a slog. I tried to think of it as 5 X 5 minutes, but after the first five minutes I wanted to cry at the thought of another twenty, and I never really broke through to my second wind.

The thought of what I would be writing on this thread ('it was tough, but I stuck it out!' or 'couldn't finish, will try again this weekend') made all the difference. So I am happy to tell you all...

It was tough, but I stuck it out! :) :)

RebeccaMumsnet · 17/02/2012 17:58

Congrats onehand

I am just back from W7R2 and found it ok after about 5 mins once I got into my stride.
Really windy here and it was blowing into me on the way home which was tough a d now my face is stinging Grin

I also noticed that my norks are bouncing about a bit more Blush but I think it's because I may have gorn down a bra size, whoop!

W7R3 on Sunday, anyone else pinching themselves that they are still going?

LookMaOneHand · 17/02/2012 18:04

Thanks, Rebecca! Well done to you

thestringcheesemassacre · 17/02/2012 18:07

onehand well done for making it, you too rebecca
I agree, I often think during the run, shit, what will I say here if I don't make it. It keeps me going. And don't forget some runs are bad, period. The fact you've managed it is just brilliant.

I'm running tomorrow, can't wait.

Woodlands · 17/02/2012 18:44

W7R1 completed today - I had a blinking stitch again so couldn't go too fast, but managed to keep running all the way.

Jnice · 17/02/2012 19:59

I'm back on the sick bed again with strep throat Sad going to have to restart w 6 again. Great to read all the successes here though! Keep it up Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 17/02/2012 20:08

Oh no disaster Jnice!!!! Fingers crossed for a swift recovery.

Well done OneHandWavingFree! It's horrible when you have a difficult run.

Looks like my dh may have been right! I went out and although my legs were fine and I was ok with my breathing I just couldn't do anymore than 13 mins. Will have another day to let myself recover from the plague horrible cold we've had and have another go at W8R2.

strawberrypie · 17/02/2012 20:10

Well done everyone and a big thank you from me too. It's true that this thread is a source of fantastic inspiration and reassurance! I am doing W5 R2 tomorrow and looking forward to it......I can't wait to get to R3 and see if I can manage the dreaded 20 mins :)

strawberrypie · 17/02/2012 20:12

Get well soon Jnice, cinnamon and anyone else who is under par.

bluechik · 17/02/2012 20:34

Jnice, Cinnamon, hope you both feel better soon.

Just completed W5R3 :o

Felt like death warmed up going out, it's been a really exhausting week in RL. Felt so much better coming back home afterwards.

On another note, the weather is warmer and it was sooo nice to be out after dark without woolly hat, gloves etc. Yehudi, spotted 3 blokes in hoodys and an Alsatian, not sure whether this qualifies for the spreadsheet..

Happy running, all!

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 17/02/2012 20:40

Week 6 is now complete Grin Yeah W6R3 in the bag.
The first 5 mins were tough but settled after that. I took a sip of water at 12.5mins and paid for it at 15mins with horrid pain - lesson learnt, wont do that again.
Hope all of you with aches or illnesses get better soon.
Start week 7 on Sunday :)

jchocchip · 17/02/2012 22:03

week 8 run 2 and dh did week 4 run 3! Was very tired after work and my breathing was poor so another really slow run. Work on speed next time...

LookMaOneHand · 17/02/2012 23:17

Thanks cinnamon and stringcheese and all! I'm kind of embarrassed by how touched I am that you're cheering me on Blush Smile

I'm cheering you all on too - it's really so great to read about other people's challenges and achievements.

cinnamon glad that you're on the up and up again. Jnice sorry to hear about the strep throat. You'll be back in the swing of things before you know it.

FrumpyPumpy · 17/02/2012 23:40

Newbie here! Did w2r2 tonight after horrid week of colds (children, DH & me), but read this thread while feeding DD at 7 and then went out! First time on pavement vs gym and I enjoyed it!

Thanks for thd motivation, and that amazingyoutube link, haveclost ALL NIGHT to ben does life!

Thank you!

rusmum · 18/02/2012 08:17

nomorecake · 18/02/2012 08:28

meggiesmum cant help with the iphone issue, but hope you get it sorted soon, so we can hear how your first run went.

cocoachannel · 18/02/2012 09:46

rusmum I am coming back to it after ten days out of action with a chest infection (damn nursery bugs). Think I'll drop back a week or two

QueenRunningGeekMum · 18/02/2012 09:50

Welcome Tricky!

I'm due to start w7 this weekend, cannot believe this but I'm looking forward to these last 3 weeks and building up the longer runs. Any tips?

Meggiesmum most of us here use the nhs podcast, which if you download it does tell you what's involved each run, so even if you don't use it you can check out what to do. I use the podcast alongside runkeeper to track my distance and pace. Hth.
