Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Dotty wear a baseball cap and make sure you drink lots over the next few days.

Jchoc stop making excuses, just think how great you'll feel afterwards

weblette · 24/01/2012 11:18

I've got to wait until dh is back from his run before I go out - he does about 30km a week and has done for years Envy

Chucking it down here too and it'll be muddy as heck but I'm looking forward to it Grin

You'll feel even better once it's finished jchocchip and so will you too QRGM

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2012 12:18

That made me lol dotty2!! I feel like I am using every red blood cell and they are all screaming that they can't get anymore oxygen any quicker Grin. Make sure you drink loads before and after you donate. It is their policy to get you drink now and I have made sure I'm well hydrated the last couple of times I donated and I haven't had the groggy feeling I used to have the next day but haven't run afterwards before!

I was happy to run in the rain last week as it cooled me down but I didn't enjoy stomping in a puddle in my first run and having a soggy, squeaky foot for the rest of the time!

dotty2 · 24/01/2012 12:40

Yay - did it. Second 5 min run felt really hard, but am jolly pleased with myself now and going to drink lots and have a warm bath (it's wet and damp out there). Am meeting friends for tea after school later - do you think a piece of cake would help ensure my red blood cells are in tip-top shape?

weblette · 24/01/2012 12:41

Grin That was ace! I'm utterly soaked and muddy but have the hugest grin. Bye bye W4R1! After how hard I found last week I really didn't think I'd manage it but actually it was easier than I expected.

Dotty When I was a student going for a pint just after giving blood was always the cheapest and easiest time to get drunk Grin Enjoy the run :)

Well done Rebecca - you've jumped a day ahead of me now boo!

With any luck the rain will have stopped when you go out Queen

Good luck to everyone else, day off tomorrow then R2 on Thursday.

weblette · 24/01/2012 12:42

Cake Dotty? Why of course, I'm sure Laura would approve Grin

jchocchip · 24/01/2012 12:51

Distance: 1.94
Total time: 0:32:40
Active time: 0:30:40
Idle time: 0:2:0
Average speed: 3.80
AVS gross: 3.57
Max speed: 6.15
Total uphill: 1519
Total downhill: -1594
I did it! but the puddles were so big by the canal we went a different way and ended up walking 20 minutes home. w5 run 1 for me and week1 run 3 for dh. I'm still a very slow runner so dh pretty much keeps up walking with long legs! Phew. Will pop into work later so I don't have to do too much tomorrow!

Bearcat · 24/01/2012 14:07

Did W3R2 last night and friend and I both found it a bit harder than W3R1!
I suppose some days are just harder than others, thats what friend says anyway.
Still can't believe that I will be running for 5 minutes on Friday, but suppose I have felt this everytime I have stepped up to the next week.
The thought of doing 20 or 30 minutes soon is pretty unbelievable.
Will I make it??????
Er---- hope so!

jchocchip · 24/01/2012 15:50

Never thought I would be able to do it bearcat but I run slowly and somehow manage to keep going! Think the program is very well designed, I really hadn't done any running since primary school and with all the excess weight it still surprises me that I can run at all!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 24/01/2012 16:51

Well done all those who have run today - and jchoc pass on my congrats to your DH, he's doing great as well Wink

And yes, I will go out tonight, I'm too scared of a telling off from you lot to skip runs! Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2012 17:09

I'm going out tonight too QueenRunningGeekMum, I'm on W4R3. I am feeling a bit sluggish due to my period but I'm hoping a run will make me feel better as it did on Sunday. Getting quite nervous about week 5 but then I have about every week and I've completed them all. We are all doing so well, I'm impressed! One of the ladies from my sept '10 thread is thinking of starting c25k with her dh so I have sent her this way :)

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 24/01/2012 17:34

W3R3 done Grin
Was begining to think today that I might manage 5mins next time, lets hope so!!

Well done everyone, its great to see us all progressing well.

yehudiwho · 24/01/2012 17:37

wk4 r2 tomorrow for me- was supposed to go tonight when ds went to footy but during meltdown in sportsdirect on sunday he got grounded and banned from football for a week! (I was so cross I nearly ran out of punishments- all that was left was not feeding him...) and seeing as its raining starting to think there's always a silver lining

Jnice · 24/01/2012 18:13

altshiftdelete - I'm pleased to hear that. Do stick with the thread and keep up the walking. Maybe see your GP in a week to get the all clear? I'm sure you're pretty close to being ready to go Smile

Jnice · 24/01/2012 18:15

Still syncing up with cinnamon here, off out for w4r3 in a bit!

Great work everyone - it's so inspiring to come on here and see so much action. So many achievements every day!

MetalSian · 24/01/2012 18:21

Have actually just managed W4R1!

I after the second 5 mins I felt a bit sick xD, but I did it.

Ran somewhere new today, along the seafront and down the cobb, was lovely apart loads more people staring at me compared to normal in the middle of nowhere.

Well done every else who has run today.

Can't quite believe I just ran that and definitely would not be this far without this thread.

What apps do you all use to log distance and speed? Just out of curiosity.

MetalSian · 24/01/2012 18:22

Oh and for those of you worrying about 5 min runs... yes they are hard but just get yourself into a rhythm and keep going!

BettyBathroom · 24/01/2012 18:44

Ran W3R3 today. I have sore knees so ran slowly and eventually my knees decided to run with me. And today I got into my old jeans - without too much of a muffin top so progress it definitely being made! Have ordered The Shred to speed things up a bit.

Well done everyone - this thread is brilliant!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2012 19:05

I'm back Jnice, it's week 5 Thursday for us, eek!!!! Was harder than Saturday but still managed it well.

Congrats on the jeans BettyBathroom, it's feels great doesn't it!

Well done everybody else too!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 24/01/2012 20:08

I'm back too, w4 r2 completed, and although tired at the end of the last run I am beginning to believe I could go on a bit more - say maybe 5 mins 10 secs? Wink

Can't believe I've got this far... Tis brilliant achievement for all of us!

The app I use for logging my runs (and walks) is runkeeper, fairly reliable, has maps, gps tracking, minute by minute pace recording, and a computerised voice telling you how far you've gone. Have also now got my fitness pal for calorie tracking, name is geekmum on it I think if anyone wants to add me!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 24/01/2012 20:10

Oh and it had stopped raining!

Wish I could run by the sea, I just pound the streets locally. Was thinking how when we eventually find a new house I might get a prettier route Grin!

MoneyBunny · 24/01/2012 20:18

I'm using Endomondo to track distance and speed.

Had planned to run tonight after having taken DS1 to katate, but while we were away DS2 had apparantly been driving DH nuts so he demanded I took him to bed tonight. He's finally asleep now but i'm too scared to go out running thos late.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 24/01/2012 20:50

I think people are more scared of my heavy breathing, lumbering body than I am of them! But good idea to stay safe... I'm in a relatively safe area, any danger comes from ex-students who generally stay clear of teachers because we can identify them!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2012 21:04

I run with my wimpy very brave dog which makes me feel safe, not that I think she'd protect me but I think it's off putting as you never know what a dog is going to do. Plus I run in a very residential area with street lights so I feel safe. My mum hates me walking the dog in the dark, but what choice do you have in the winter? Dh takes her out in the morning and goes in the forest whether it's light or dark Confused

cocoachannel · 24/01/2012 21:09

Just to report that for the first time since being about six months pg (so over a year), I have been able to remove my engagement and wedding rings! Not that I want/ need to but it's an encouraging sign!

Keep going everyone!

In the safety issue I run in the dark so either run directly to DD's nursery along a well lit route or round the block, which is dull but hopefully safe.
