Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Thanks for all the clucking! I know i'm being a little silly and i am trying to listen to my body but it just screaming 'revolting' at me! I walked at 5.6 km/h and ran at 7kms so not too hard and only have sore thighs today..

I have to be on a beach with athlete friends in 9 weeks, which concentrates teh mind somewhat and i'm 10kgs heavier than when i last sobbed with her over my body after my first baby.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 23/01/2012 17:27

Welcome Altshift

I won't cluck further, you've got the message about post surgery exercise and the risks, but will say don't push yourself too far too fast - your muscles haven't knitted together yet post pregnancy and you could end up with a stomach that will forever remain flabby if they don't heal properly! Definitely leave a rest day between runs - but do a long walk, swim or similar on the rest days if you want!

I'm looking forward to my w4r2 tomorrow! Can't believe someone else (sorry on phone, can't check who) is on w6! Week 5 is the clincher for me, if I finish that then I'll probably get to the end of the whole course Grin

Lotsofchooks · 23/01/2012 17:54

Did Wk 4 run 2 today :)

topsmart · 23/01/2012 18:08

Well done everyone! Just logging wk3r2. I cannot imagine running more than 3 mins straight right now!!

MetalSian · 23/01/2012 18:55

Actually dreading W4R1 tomorrow.

Well done everyone who has ran today.
And people on week 5 and 6, you are bloody amazing!

Jnice · 23/01/2012 20:02

topsmart and metalsian week 4 is t so bad - I found the first try tough but if you push through to the end the second run is much easier. You'll be fine Wink

I just went to mum & baby fit, came home and weighed myself. I put on 2lbs Angry I mistakenly thought I could exercise, breastfeeding and eat what I like. Back to tracking calories on MFP again -sigh-

QueenRunningGeekMum · 23/01/2012 20:03

I couldn't imagine running 5 mins, and when I was attempting w4 yesterday for first time, was running the 5 min bit and Laura cut in, I thought 'phew only 60s left' but she said 'well done, you're halfway through! Blush

But I continued and completed all the runs, so although it's hard it's achievable Grin

Jnice · 23/01/2012 20:06

AltShiftDelete be kind to yourself, there is no rush. I'm 3m PP and still have 20lb to lose. Try to focus in getting stronger slowly rather than beating yourself up over your body - it just did an amazing thing and needs time. Congratulations on your baby Smile

RebeccaMumsnet · 23/01/2012 20:08

w4 r1 done! Made the error of starting the first 5 mins at the bottom of a hill, not good but I just managed it although I thought I was going to vom

AltShiftDelete cluck, cluck echo everyone else, go steady, i'm sure you are gorgeous [end of clucking]

Run 2 due wednesday...

Good luck all, keep going.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 23/01/2012 20:33

Well done Rebecca Grin

mazzi2fly · 23/01/2012 20:38

w3 r2 done! This was my first run after dark (wearing DH's high vis waistcoat). I managed to run a little faster tonight, and when Laura said to warm down, I was still feeling energetic, so ran for another couple of minutes.

Someone further up the thread said about looking up instead of at the ground - thank you -it feels much better like that!

RebeccaMumsnet · 23/01/2012 20:43

@QueenRunningGeekMum

Well done Rebecca Grin

Thank you, you are very lovely, this thread is keeping me going.

cece · 23/01/2012 20:44

Altshiftdelete - me too with the clucking, take care...

Wow to all the runners expecially those on 5 mins plus. GULP.

I am struggling here. Was planning another go at w2r3 today but feel crap and got sore throat heading this way. After the fever at weekend, it might explain why I struggled last night.

So not running tonight. Off to bed in a minute.

Will leave the decision about running tomorrow till after work I think. Not sure I am going to have the energy after 12 hours at work. Sad

monstermissy · 23/01/2012 20:46

Well done everyone, glad im not the only one who thinks they could throw up towards the end. I always think i will just fall over as well.

Im only on wk2 and im gutted but my knee is giving me too much bother to run, i cant even skip (recently bought myself a rope) :( it hurts alot. I run in bog standard trainners but will have to invest in some proper running shoes i think. Ran on Saturday and if it doesnt feel better tomorrow im going to see the doctor. So disappointed i cant crack on with it.

SnapSnafu · 23/01/2012 20:54

Hello, just found this thread. I did w4r1 today, and enjoyed it. I used to run a lot, and have found the very short (90s) runs quite annoying, as you don't get into a rhythm before it's over, so w4 felt much more like it, and just right for my fitness level. I've been pleased to do it slowly though, building up, as every time I've tried to get back to running over the last 5 years, I've got plantar fasciitis and had to stopped. Hoping the slowly approach will prevent that.

Have just googled another pain in my foot though, and think it's due to over-pronating, possibly as a result of twisting that ankle last May. Need to dig out my silicon inserts.

nomorecake · 24/01/2012 05:21

started catching up on the thread when i got in to bed, last night. just woke up with my phone still in my hand!!!

week3 complete. dont think i made any progression though, the last run was just as difficult as the first.
pushing myself so hard just to get to the end of 3 mins, at this point cant see how i could do 5mins?!

good work everyone! keep running. and posting. Smile

Jnice · 24/01/2012 06:07

nomorecake you can do it! Just slow right down and you'll make it through Smile

Jnice · 24/01/2012 06:10

snap I am in a similar position. Was quite fit until I got pregnant a year ago. My heart and lungs seem ok but my feet, knees, hips etc hurt. I'm starting out from scratch in the hope that I can strengthen rather than injure myself.

In the past I have had Achilles tendinitis, sublux cuboid, ankle sprains Sad I wear custom orthotics now.

I hope you stay injury free.

jchocchip · 24/01/2012 07:31

I've had 2 rest days but I'm still scared of starting week 5! I will do it this morning though... Now I've said it here, I've got to, haven't I?

QueenRunningGeekMum · 24/01/2012 07:47

Welcome Snap!

Jchoc you know the rules... Get going, go on! Grin I'll be expecting a full report back from you!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 24/01/2012 07:48

Nomorecake that's how I felt but I still managed w4r1, give it a go!

Panadbois · 24/01/2012 09:08

How long did it take your ankle to heal Jnice? I'm itching to go out "running" again.

AltShiftDelete · 24/01/2012 09:12

Well done all of you for getting to W4! Reassuring that even though you're struggling that you're keeping it up.

I bow my head and have listened to the clucks so only did a fastish walk today of 5.7km.

Am sticking with you lot though and keeping an eye on the progress.....

C'mon week 5 jchochip that means you as well as the others. You can do it.

dotty2 · 24/01/2012 09:20

I have to do W4R1 today and it's raining. And I wear glasses. Yuk. Also am due to give blood tonight (after run, not before, obviously) so am a bit worried that that might set me back a bit - DH finds he's below capacity running for a week or so after giving blood, but maybe I am so slow and feeble still that I am not making use of all my red blood cells anyway!

jchocchip · 24/01/2012 10:10

Its still raining and it will be sooo muddy down by the river...
