Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Yay! I did wk4r1 despite the yucky weather. Go me!

Well done to all, will catch up on thread at ds's nap time Smile

Bearcat · 20/01/2012 21:25

Friend and I did W3R1 tonight and then did almost another 3 minute run to the gym.
Legs don't hurt like they did in the earlier runs.
Bit breathless, but hey have never run before and so far seem to be managing reasonably well.
Came home and had a lovely relax in a hot bath with some nice bath stuff I found whilst cleaning out bathroom cupboard today.

MetalSian · 20/01/2012 22:48

13.5/3 is 4.5 So W4R2 =].

goingtobefree · 20/01/2012 23:00

W3R1 done. Challenging but managed it.

jchocchip · 20/01/2012 23:17

week 1 + week 2 + week 3 + week 4 + half of week 5 =

week 6 + week 7 + week 8 + week 9 + half of week 5.

We didn't start in week 0 so half way really is week 5
run 2

Jnice · 21/01/2012 00:06

cinnamon glad we made it! I was very apprehensive but it wasn't that bad at all. No stitch at all.

The freezing rain was just rain by the time I got out, and snow turning to slush. Saw loads of Canada geese, or as they're referred to here 'geese' Wink

Actually, I have no idea what Canada geese are called here...

QueenRunningGeekMum · 21/01/2012 03:39

Well done runners!

Grin at the maths on this thread - I went round and round for ages trying to work out what halfway was! Got the whole '13.5 runs = w5r2' but couldn't work out why '9/2 =4.5 =w4r2' gave me a different value.

Then DH pointed out that 4.5 = 4 complete weeks and halfway through the next week, so w5r2. Blush

I then dithered all evening about whether to post this at the risk of demotivating people Sad but came on and saw others had corrected the assumption too.

So instead I'll say this: keep going, w4r2 is 11/27 runs down, we're into the double figures now, who'd have thought that at the start of the year?! Grin

debka · 21/01/2012 07:07

Oo yout clever bunch, i'd never have worked that one out by my own (as my 2yo would say).

I'm actually rather relieved I'm not half way yet, I don't feel ready to be half way to running the whole 30 minutes!

rusmum · 21/01/2012 07:15

Wow you are all doing brilliant Grin w2 r1 attempt again tonight. Blush at this rate I will prob be about half way through in 9 weeks lol

yehudiwho · 21/01/2012 08:37

about to do week 4 run1 my knees are feeling sore- I'm going this morning and if they still ache will take a few days off to see if they improve. the website says not to run if your knees hurt -rest for a week and see if they improve, I dont know if its just rust , old age or runners knee!

Aseaandthreestars · 21/01/2012 08:55

Don't be deflated Betty - find a starting point that feels comfortable and then get going. Imagine your own team of cheerleading mumsnetters urging you on (or am I the only one to do this?).

I just did W3R2. I had to have some stern words with myself to finish the second three minutes, but after that felt so warmed up that I had two more little runs on the way home.

I have a problem I need to sort. I have been clustering my runs around the weekend and the big gaps aren't working. But, the EDS means that I'm beyond tired at the end of a working day. But I need to have alternate run and rest days. The 'buts' are circling around each other. I need to find the strength from somewhere to run mid-week. This is going to be a challenge.

MetalSian · 21/01/2012 09:56

I stand corrected ;P!

Lotsofchooks · 21/01/2012 09:57

Just been out in the wind and ran Wk4 r1; found it hard, but doable.....OMG I RAN FOR 5 MINUTES! :o :o

jchocchip · 21/01/2012 10:00

week 4 run 3 beckons. I really must get a move on!

arabellacaterpillar · 21/01/2012 10:28

week 3 run 3 done this morning - legs felt like lead at the start......had a few glasses of wine last night and think i was feeling the effects of that!
Week 4 on Monday night BRING IT ON!!!

Good luck this weekend all you runners

mazzi2fly · 21/01/2012 10:41

Wk3r1 done this morning. I really surprised myself at being able to run for 3 minutes! The first run started on a uphill, so it was quite hard but the second 3 minute run was downhill and much easier.

I had planned to do Wk3r2 on Monday after the school run, but now I need to work. I'll have to run in the evening in the dark, I guess.

CoolRunnings · 21/01/2012 11:02

W4r1 done this morning. Felt much better doing it today, think the shred is starting to help a bit. Going to stay with my parents for a few days in a week or two, hope I can keep up the running because the city I live in is very flat, whereas the rural town they live in is very hilly.

yehudiwho · 21/01/2012 11:21

I DID it R1 Wk4 I ran for 16 minutes including two 5 minutes !! 4 weeks ago I would never have believed it - and not sure I do now. the first 3 minutes was a bit tough then the 5 minutes was hard but manageable - third 3 mins pretty good and the last run was exhausting but I DID IT. Knees were fine but bit achey now -
To all of you earlier in the plan believe me you can do it - listen to spymaster Laura (she's particularly nice in week 4 I really liked 'you've done this before, you can do it again and this is when your fitness will really imrove when you push yourself through the tiredness!) and believe in yourself - this podcast is truly marvellous and unleashes abilities in couch potatoes we never knew we had

delilahbelle · 21/01/2012 11:25

I have just completed W4R2. Very very hard - I did the shred rather than running on Thursday so was hobbling until I warmed up today.
Slowed down a bit in the last minute of the final run, but so glad I forced myself - I feel great now :)

monstermissy · 21/01/2012 11:26

I done wk2r1 on Tuesday, it was fine but my goodness one of my knees hurt so i havent been out since, its now feeling abit stiff but not hurting so much. I really hope this is just my body adapting cause i want to get on with it. Although i know i shouldnt run if its sore. Anyone else had knee trouble?

weblette · 21/01/2012 12:04

Motivation in vvvv short supply this am. Not feeling 100%, it's blowing a gale and chucking it down with rain. I'll give it 5 mins then head out.

CoolRunnings · 21/01/2012 12:14

You can do it weblette!

thestringcheesemassacre · 21/01/2012 12:15

Hello all,

Group hug, everyone is doing aces!

I'm just back from w5 run 3 and it was 20 bloody mins. And I did it! Laura is right, at this point it's more a mental battle than physical.

I feel so good now, just off to a kids party to stuff my face with sausage rolls etc

thederkinsdame · 21/01/2012 13:08

Wk2r2 was a disaster Sad I mostly walked today. So I'm doing less running than I was for wk1. I was shaky all the way round and feel like a complete failure. I'm wondering if I should go back to wk1 cos tbh I was struggling to complete that when I moved up so if I am struggling to run for 1min I'm not gonna manage 90secs am I? I feel totally discouraged today. Help!

Aseaandthreestars · 21/01/2012 13:27

I'm here thederkinsdame. What do you think is happening?
