ok so the new year is here, and this is when I promised myself I would start to put in the hard work to shed the baby weight! So here goes Smile ...
7):
Healthy eating, for me being: muesli and soya milk, sandwich/soup/salad, casserole/rice dish/ veggies etc. Snacks to be yogurt/fruit if really need it. Going to make an effort to avoid sugar/high gi foods and drink lots of water.

Exercise: 30ds 5 today, then plan to follow that with 6pack in 6 weeks, followed by starting couch to 5k in time for spring! Big plansGrin

Start weight is 9st 7lb, height 5ft 4" but very flabby, in particular tummy area which is my main concern! Will do measurements and photos of progress too. Feel free to join me!

I've started today to.

Exercise
I shall be attending my Zumba class weekly, 50 mins pretty high intensity compared to some of the other classes I've attended. My instructor has recently come back after having a baby and as well as cardio she is building in some great toning moves too - result!

Most Sundays I will also take the kids swimming at the free family swim session at a localish pool.

This school term I am also going to be working full time instead of part time. Although that means I will be missing out on 3 x 10 min brisk walks a week doing my own kids' school run, instead I will be generally more active as you don't get to sit down as a school teacher except at lunch time.

Food
I am going to track calories with myfitnesspal, but may swap back to counting ww points if the cals thing doesn't seem to work. Aiming for 1.5lb a week, which is 1300 cals a day.

I will be eating my 3 main meals and having a small snack for supper in an evening as we eat tea quite early to eat with our children and am ravenous at about 9pm. Snack will be under 200 cals. E.g. packet buttons if craving choc or a bowl of cereal/porridge if really hungry.

I'm sticking to this all term. In 7 weeks I have a posh dinner dance to go to and a size 14 dress that I can get into, but would look much nicer if I WAS actually a size 14.

CaterinaSforza · 02/01/2012 17:55

I've got just about a stone to lose too, aiming to do it in a month if the exercise program I ordered (firm express) is everything it promises. Too optimistic? Started a thread in here hoping other mugs have fallen for same advertising spiel on fitness channel on sky but looks like I am the only gullible MNer Confused it also has a diet of, I think, 5 small meals a day.

Apparently I need to get some weights but not sure which. Years since I set foot in a gym so better start with something light?

mamasunshine · 23/01/2012 10:15

Arg...I went haywire! Have been ill with flu since the New Year...very poorly for 1 week or so, then nasty cough-eugh! Over it completely now so found my thread and starting today as I mean to go on Smile

So now weigh 9st4lb. Aim is 8st7lb. Ideally would like to lose 1lb a week.

Have taken measurements, but no pics. Will re-do measurements at the end of 30DS.

Have just done D1L1 of 30DS Grin Very pleased with myself as I find the 1st day the hardest to get started Grin

Going to have muesli now, soup for lunch and a casserole of similar for dinner. Also going to yoga this evening.

mamasunshine · 24/01/2012 11:42

Have just done D2L1 and aching a bit, particularly upper body - chest/arms.

Felt great yesterday, did everything I had planned and today has started very well. Will do similar re food intake today.

Cutting out tea/coffee to just 1 in the morning, then herbal teas for the rest. To reduce my sugar intake as I have 1tsp sugar in them, but none in herbals.

mamasunshine · 25/01/2012 08:42

Ok so aching a lot this morning...going to have a day off the shred and go for a brisk walk with the buggy, then do 20mins or so on the cross trainer.

Was good re food yesterday, got a bit peckish in the evening so had a mug of warm soya milk, cocoa powder and a tiny bit of sugar!

I'm also doing 30 day shred-about to move to L3 tomorrow.it will be the first time I think I've managed to get that far!! Also doing couch to 5k and some weights.

mamasunshine · 26/01/2012 21:21

HI in1981 would be nice to have you on board! Smile

Wow L3! Have you seen any results? I had a day of 30DS again today, just didn't have time...but have not stopped so made up for it! Will do D3 tomorrow morning. I've been good with food, the same muesli, soup, nectarine and beef casserole with potato.

handbagsandshoes · 26/01/2012 23:33

Hi can I join you? I have lost my mojo lately and want to get back on track. I am also 5'4 and want to get down to 9 stone. I'm not sure what I am atm, I will weigh myself in the morning. Hopefully I am around 9 1/2 stone? Fingers crossed!

handbagsandshoes · 27/01/2012 09:30

Happily I weighed 9st4 1/2 this morning but I feel yuck so the healthy life returns today! 9st and my skinny jeans here we come...

handbagsandshoes · 28/01/2012 10:28

Oh dear, is it me? One day on and doing ok. Portion sizes my biggest problem. Any suggestions for serving yourself less?

ReduceRecycleRegift · 28/01/2012 10:39

hi can I join? I had 2 stone to loose but just 3lbs away from the 1st stone milestone so about 1 more stone to loose

am shredding and couch to 5king plus one body combat and one body balance a week

food wise I'm having some protein every time I eat or snack even if it's a couple of nuts with my fruit, and no refined carbs. Not counting points or cals but the protein seems to keep me full and is keeping away cravings for crap. Having one cheat meal a week (but it's been more like 2 a week if I'm honest Blush.

Loosing about 3lbs a week at the mo (I think 2 is ideal for keeping it off) I think the next stone might be harder than the first, the last few pounds always are aren't they?

ReduceRecycleRegift · 28/01/2012 10:41

handbags I'm finding if you're eating a lot of protein you can't keep eating like you can with a big plate of starchey stuff so the portions are sort of looking after themselves. And I guess don't let yourself get ravenous, have healthy snacks and regular meals

ReduceRecycleRegift · 28/01/2012 10:44

and strangely fuller fat stuff seems to be helping me loose, one tablespoon of full fat humous satisfies me but I'ld eat my way through a whole tub of half fat humous and still be hungry! There's no diet foods in my NY plan, just whole unprocessed stuff and I feel better than I have in a few years

ln1981 · 29/01/2012 14:49

Hi there!!

Sorry mamasunshine I couldnt find this thread once id posted on it but I hvae it back now!!
I have definately toned up a little from 30day shred-not lrealy lost any weight since I started at the beginnning of the year-think its not even half a pound!! But my legs have definately firmed up, and I can feel my ab muscles under the flabby pouch that I have!
Hi handbags and recycle.

I'm not really cutting much out, but its interesting what you said about the full fat vs half fat reduce. I had been doing a straight 1500cals/day diet and this week decided to change it so that i was eating different amounts every day, which meant I could have the full fat version if I wanted (hurrah!!), and i lost my first 1/2lb this week. Think I will be doing that this week too just to see.

ReduceRecycleRegift · 29/01/2012 21:42

In good idea, "zigzagging" calories is supposed to help your metabolism and stop plateaus, you're supposed to work out your calaries for the week, but instead of dividing that by seven you have some low days and some (reasonably) high days. That's what I've been doing and this is the only diet where I've lost EVERY week. I'm having 2 cheat meals a week (was supposed to be one but.. Grin)

handbagsandshoes · 30/01/2012 00:15

Well today must be my zigzag day. Tiredness is my worst enemy. I just hunt around for the thing I think I want and eat all sorts trying to find it, but actually what I need is a sleep. And here I am at late night o'clock. I think I'll aim for a few early nights this week and see if that helps...

mamasunshine · 30/01/2012 07:41

Morning ladies Smile

Well I've lost 1lb! So now 9st3lb. I was surprised as I was quite naughty Sat night and Sun. It was dd's birthday and I forgot to put the chocolates out for the guests...neadless to say dh and I ate them all Sat pm Blush, and shared a bottle of champagne Shock Grin ! Then had bacon sandwich on Sunday and snacked a bit - oops.

However I did really well Mon-Fri, so onwards on upwards back on track today. I did D3L1 30DS on Friday but have been too busy over the weekend to fit it in, so going to do D4 today, also have yoga later and will go for a brisk walk.

Well off to have my porridge now...

mamasunshine · 30/01/2012 07:50

handbags - you're similar height/weight to me. I concentrate on having a balanced approach to portion sizes. I have a dinner plate, a smaller sized one, not some of the huge plates you can get! Always try to ensure that 1/2 of the plate if full of veggies, 1/4 has your protein on and 1/4 with carbs. If I get really hungry between meals snack on veggies/humous, yogurt, fruit, oatcakes, cottage cheese and the like..or even a mug of herbal tea will suffice sometimes.

reduce - well done on your weightloss so far! I also find protein keeps me full and gives me more energy. And I have a cheat meal once a week, usually whatever Sainsburys have on the meal deals at the time, so this week it will be a pre-packe chinese meal - more so for the ease of not cooking from scratch 1 night a week. Oh and I do everything full fat too, I think the low fat stuff has lots of hidden sugars etc so supposed to be better to do full fat.

1981 - that sounds promising re 30DS Smile Glad you found us again!

mamasunshine · 30/01/2012 10:40

D4L1 complete! I've only ben using 1kg weights so think I will move up to the next size tomorrow. Only struggling with push-ups now and the side lunge with anterior raise?!

OP posts:
ln1981 · 30/01/2012 13:11

well done on your loss this week mamasunshine Grin
yes that side lunge with raise was a killer!! It makes my mouth do a funny twitching thing coming to the last few, and I cant stop myself from doing it either! Blush L3 doesnt seem to be as hard going weight wise but she has put plyo and jump training in which means that my lungs feel like they are going to burst!

Think Im going to stick with the zigzagging then reduce- have been on a plateau for about 2yrs now-so determined to get of it this year.

Well this morning, so far I have taken the dog round the block-we walked dp as far as the end of the road but dog is a bugger for pulling at the minute so in order to keep my arm in its socket we went the opposite way. dog thought we were going to the park probably as thats the way dp goes to work. And then I went for my run. Im re-doing week4on c25k. Im asthamtic and after every interval I had to use my inhaler, so the plan is to try and use it less this week before I move on. Then doing 30day shred tonight-will need my bed tonight I think!

aaw handbags that probably sounds like a plan. boredom does the same thing to me-its a very hard habit to break.

handbagsandshoes · 30/01/2012 13:49

well done sunshine

I am sooooo looking forward to going to bed tonight - much running around today. I'm giving myself the whole week to get refreshed.

Trying to up my water and cut back on the coffee today. Well - from now on anyway.

ReduceRecycleRegift · 30/01/2012 16:19

Handbags this seems to be a zigzag WEEK for me Hmm I'm eating loads more than usual (blaming AF) but keeping it to whole-foods at least.

downloaded couch to 5k app and today is my day off so should have been day 1 but its FREEZING out so skiving! will shred later!

got a set of ankle, wrist and hand weights in Aldi today for 9.99 so might wear the hand and ankle ones today for shred to make up for no running and extra eating! Plan to wear the ankle and wrist weights whenever I take LO out on his scooter - every little helps eh?

ReduceRecycleRegift · 30/01/2012 16:23

oh and handbags we've cut coffee right down in our house (one a day for me and two a day for DH) - that was quite hard for us we are big coffee drinkers but we do it by making our one (or two) cups REALLY nice, nice Taylors of Harrogate with a dash of cream and some cinnamon - makes the crappy coffee at work/petrol stations less appealing. I've not had a cup at work all Jan! (have green tea or peppermint in my work bag)

and saved a fortune in Costa - that was my worst spending and calories habit I think! broke that resolution once and actually it tastes foul, I just though it tasted amazing because I was so addicted to it and the habit of going in there. Choose starbucks now if I have to get something on the run and have an americana with cream and their ham hock salad (as opposed to huge flavoured late, fruit juice, sandwich, crisps plus choc tiffin Blush)
