I am at the age where it is just a matter of (short) time before I develop a health problem relating to my weight - joints, Type 2 diabetes or even a heart attack. It really is that serious.
I am sick of not having any "nice" clothes (don't want to invest until I lose weight Hmm).
I did it in summer, stuck to it for ages which is something I have never managed to do. I CAN do it again.

So here's the plan. Back to foodfocus as of tomorrow. No days off (logging, although I may choose to eat more than I am "allowed". Everything must be logged.
No excessive competitiveness with myself. I truly believe this is part of the reason it all went wrong.

3 or 4 lb to lose every week. Might sound a lot but it's easy when you're big - I'm sure I could do it by just eating 3 normal sized usual meals a day. So pathetic if I can't.

Coming back here to report on progress. Caring and supportive thread but not accepting bullshit excuses!
Anyone want to join me?

Can I join too? Need to lose 4 stone really. I walk lots, occasional exerciser but make all the wrong food choices and overeat. A lot. Planning to start properly in January (possibly thru WW online) but definitely need some support:)

ledkr · 28/12/2011 19:04

"stealth" yep.But i cant afford the therapy bill!

I was a tiny 10 stone and size 10 a few years ago. The diet?? Pinot grigio and marlboro lights Grin most effective. I used to supplement with a weetabix about every 2 days.Obviously dont want to go back there eh?

PhishFoodAddiction · 28/12/2011 19:08

Thanks Stealth. I've used food focus before and found it useful, but I got a bit obsessed with calories and exercise and the weight wasn't coming off as fast as I'd hoped so I gave up.

Am going to WW next week it's in my village about 5 minutes from my house so I will probably know people there... Do they do tea and cake?! Grin

Ledkr- I still try and blame the kids for my weight, but it doesn't wash now as they are going to turn 5 and 4 next year Grin and I am fatter now than when pregnant! In fact I am wearing a T-shirt today, not a maternity one but one I wore when massively pregnant and it's a bit snug.

I think I will wait until New Year, I know I'm putting it off but can't start until the Christmas goodies are gone. We still have quite a lot to get through but I ate two biscuits while typing this reply.

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 28/12/2011 19:19

Can I join in? I need to get my arse in gear this year. I'm wasting my life! I've been big since I was a child, I had to wear men's trousers at school as none made for my age fit. I was over 20 stone at my worst- size 32 or thereabouts. The first time I properly weighed myself was jan 2009- weighed in at 16 st 10. By Dec 2009 I was 12 st 10- smallest I've been since I was about 10! But then I moved abroad into a difficult job and was so miserable, I put a lot back on. I started just before Christmas, back on a diet osely based on Rosemary Conley (low fat, cal counting, low GI) and lost 7lb in a week! I think thats all back on now after Christmas!

I'm going to start properly in jan- I'm at home with my parents now, so am eating what mum cooks or just crap. I'm starting the couch to 5k too, and hopefully getting back onto a run one day, fitness DVD the next routine. I walk a lot for work too. I'll be watching with interest the people doing WW or SW, as I've tried neither.

ballstoit · 28/12/2011 19:20

I'm in too...lost lots of weight with an over active thyroid at beginning of last year but medication (and radioactive iodine in 15 days, gulp) has got the thyroid under control but left my eating habits the same as they were.

I have (I think) about 3 stone to lose...I was a omfortable 12 but am now struggling to get into a 16. Will be starting in the New Year, as I know I'll struggle to exercise or control eating with DC around and want to get off to a good start. I have 25 days of no DC after the Iodine so plan to buy no crap and do lots of walking/wii fit/exercise DVDs so that should get me into good habits.

Has anyone tried combining quitting smoking and losing weight...for my health I think fags should go first but for self esteem and body image the weight is my priority...can I do both together? Or would that be insane?

Cluckingmad · 28/12/2011 19:21

Hi can I join too? I have been doing ww for nearly 3 months now, the first couple of months I was doing well and lost almost 1 stone, but the last month I have been crap! I weigh 11st 4 at the min but want to lose at least another stone before my holiday in may. I tend to get bored very quickly and like you stealth am an emotional eater, infact am thinking about what I can eat now as dh is at work and im bored Blush

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 28/12/2011 19:23

I'm waiting for the DC's to go back to school but am going to try to be sensible in the meantime. DD is 13 next week and I still haven't lost what I put on when pregnant with her, though managed to lose extra on top of that I put on with DS.

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 19:27

balls have you tried the NHS for stop smoking? You can get patches etc on prescription I think. I'm sure if you asked your GP he or she would agree smoking needs to be first. Maybe stopping smoking with a focus on being more healthy without a focus on losing weight as such - just eating better and doing exercise?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 19:28

Scarf - you lost 4st - that's amazing! Let's all do that, you can lead :)

OP posts:
ScarfOfSexualPreference · 28/12/2011 19:54

Stealth- I still can't believe I did it! I just wish I could do what I was doing then- walking at least 10 miles a day at work (I'm a nanny) then doing eaither a run, a rosemary conley class or a davina dvd EVERY NIGHT! And eating 1400 cals a day, all low fat, no snacks. I was so good for so long! I wonder where I would be if I had kept it up- but I lost my job, which was my home too, so I took the first thing which was abroad and was the worst year of my life. Never again!

Rudawakening · 28/12/2011 19:58

Hi can I join?

I have about 3 stone to lose, I'm 5'9 and weight 12st8lb at the minute, I lost 1st2lb in 4 weeks just before Christmas by cutting out most carbs, refined sugar and alcohol plus working out for 45 minutes 3 times a week at a bootcamp. I need the push of the trainer to shout at me and make me work harder. I start back at camp on jan 9th but will start eating better once back at work on jan 3rd.

Ideal weight is between 9.5 and 10st so quite a way to go but I've found something that actually works after many failed attempts so I am optimistic about the future and if I can do it anyone can Grin

ballstoit · 28/12/2011 19:59

Stealth - I know the smoking should be first, but if it's a choice then I'll start losing some weight first. My confidence is pretty low atm, and I know that losing a few pounds will give me a boost, and very probably get me in the mood to quit smoking.

Was more wondering if anyone's tried doing both at the same time? Not sure how I'll manage if I take away both crutches if that makes sense?

Snowsister · 28/12/2011 20:03

Can I join.

Put on 4st with my last pregnancy, lost 2st with WW before getting bored and giving up. So I need to lose 2 stone.. ds2 is 17 months old now so I have no excuse.

Plan is to have
a) porridge for breakfast every day
b) veg pot or soup and yog for lunch
c) normal dinner
d) cut out choc and crisps.
e) stop eating the kids leftovers

and I need to start tomorrow and keep going.

McPie · 28/12/2011 20:03

Can I please join in too?
I have put on at least a stone and a half in the last 6 months and am now sitting uncomfortably at 15.6 and Im only about 5"4! I hate seeing my reflection almost as much as I hate getting dressed as nothing fits me any more Sad.
I love doing 30 day shred and could manage to do 4 in one day 6 months ago but now I have been struggling to find the energy to even consider doing 1 lately and I think the extra weight I am carrying is not helping one bit.
From the 1st there will be no excuses, no booze, no sweets and no crisps. I will have eggs and wheat free toast for breakfast, soup with ryvitas or pasta and tomato sauce with fruit and fat free plain yogurt for lunch and a normal tea bulked out with veg and a small amount of carbs. Any snacks, if needed, will be yogurt and fruit.
I am waiting for ripped in 30/killer buns and thighs to arrive and plan on doing one a day as well as trying to fit in a section of the dvd that came with the easy shaper I just bought today. I tend to go over board with excersise so am going to have to try and keep it at a level where it doesn't take over my life.
I am also going to weigh and measure myself at the start of the month and not again until the end of I will end up giving up if I see no change like it normally happens.
I have issues with wheat and in the last 6 months higher fat dairy has been causing me problems too but I can take the fat free stuff without issue Hmm. What I dont get is that I dropped cheese and chocolate and ended up putting on so much weight where before I was static around the 14 stone mark no matter how much excersise I done.

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 20:03

yes iswym. Keep on this thread and we will keep nagging you :)

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 20:05

Hi McPie, Snow and Ruda
There seem to be a few of us at around the 15 and a half st mark. Think I will set myself a target of below 15st by the end of Jan. SHould be achievable.

OP posts:
McPie · 28/12/2011 20:12

That sounds like a pretty good goal Stealth so I will join you on that one. I have no event to work towards so setting small monthly goals sounds like a good way for me to go. I am going to keep a food and excersise diary also as I struggled before to lose weight and may need to have evidence to present to Dr in a few months time if I am getting nowhere!

CotherMuckingFunt · 28/12/2011 20:23

Balls I need to give up smoking too. I'm hoping I'll be able to do what I did last time which was lose weight and exercise until I got to a point where smoking was hindering me. Then it was easy to give up because I had goals to achieve (riding further, running for longer). All I need to do this time is leave out the starting smoking again part and I should be set Grin

I think the biggest thing for me with smoking is it's a protection thing. If I'm standing around waiting for something/someone people would be staring at me because I'm fat. If I'm smoking then I have something to do and either won't notice people staring or I can blame it on them disliking smoking. Crazy I know, but that's how my head works Hmm

CotherMuckingFunt · 28/12/2011 20:24

Ooops, posted too early.

I meant to add, therefore losing weight first is more important (to me) than giving up smoking because it's all about confidence. I can be slimmer and not need fags but I can't be fat and not need them.

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 20:25

Just remembered I was 14st10 for about a day in August :( So have put on most of a stone since then, really. KNew it was too good to be true!

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 20:26

yes, completely agree Cother - I don't smoke but am very self conscious :(

OP posts:
TheDowagerCountess · 28/12/2011 20:28

I'm pushing the 16 stone mark (eurgh) so will aim for just over 15 by the end of jan.

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 20:30

good plan :)

OP posts:
WynkenBlynkenandNod · 28/12/2011 20:41

I'm up for under 15 stone by end of January.

There's quite a few of us who have lost then put back on. I think it's important that we leave that behind us now and wile the slate clean. Know how fustrating it is, I saw 14 stone at a WI in the summer and swore would never see 15 on the scales again but have. What's done is done though. Lesson learned.
