I am at the age where it is just a matter of (short) time before I develop a health problem relating to my weight - joints, Type 2 diabetes or even a heart attack. It really is that serious.
I am sick of not having any "nice" clothes (don't want to invest until I lose weight Hmm).
I did it in summer, stuck to it for ages which is something I have never managed to do. I CAN do it again.

So here's the plan. Back to foodfocus as of tomorrow. No days off (logging, although I may choose to eat more than I am "allowed". Everything must be logged.
No excessive competitiveness with myself. I truly believe this is part of the reason it all went wrong.

3 or 4 lb to lose every week. Might sound a lot but it's easy when you're big - I'm sure I could do it by just eating 3 normal sized usual meals a day. So pathetic if I can't.

Coming back here to report on progress. Caring and supportive thread but not accepting bullshit excuses!
Anyone want to join me?

Well done Stealth.

Dad had a biopsy done just before Christmas for possible prostate cancer in a private hospital from which he picked up an unusual urine infection. He was very poorly and private hospital or some staff members who were on duty at the time, seemed to wash their hands off him and so he has ended up in an NHS hospital where progress is being made, but he is allowed ward leave so can come home as long as he is back in time for his check up, tests etc. The Doc who did the initial biopsy was horrified about his treatment. Dmum is having her back operated on on Thursday and they are going to India in a month.

For the vegetarians on the thread I have just done HF-W macaroni peas from his new veg book and it was delicious, our next vegetarian culinary delight will be kale and mushroom lasagne.

momnipotent · 09/01/2012 21:09

Sorry, I'm not in the UK. Who (what?) is HF-W?

fivegomadindorset · 09/01/2012 21:11

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall aka River Cottage.

StealthPolarBear · 09/01/2012 21:17

Glad he is back in the NHS and progress is being made. Hope he's fully recovered for India - how fantastic! (I assume he is cancer free??)
My grandad had a similar issue with private hospitals. The NHS sent him to have a cataract removal privately. There were complications, but as complications go they were bog standard for a man of his age. Because he was in a private hospital they didn't hav the right equipment to sort it out Confused so he spent quite a while in pain and discomfort before a trip to A&E where they started to sort it out :( He needs the other one doing as soon as he's recovered...

Le sigh. I was doing great on day one until DH decided to pick up treat for me. Of course I had to eat it! And I've now clued him in to what I'm doing so there'll be no more treats. :(

Alas, tomorrow is another day...

Piggles · 10/01/2012 07:55

I'm struggling. I just feel so bloody hungry all the time, and don't have any of my starting-out enthusiasm left to carry me through, as all I can see now is the future yawning hungrily ahead of me. My stomach also growled so loudly earlier that it frightened the cat off my lap, so I think I need to do a slight re-think.

I did scale back my eating dramatically and suddenly at the start of the year - halving my food intake - and I think that was too ambitious to continue with. So I've decided to increase portion sizes (so I'm eating 3/4 of what I used to instead of 1/2) for a few weeks before I decrease again to what I should be eating - or I think I will just get too miserable and hungry to want to continue... which is when I will just snap and eat my own body weight in mac n cheese or some other delicious stodge.

I've lost a couple of pounds though, so I'm not giving up, and dinner tonight was delicious if I do say so myself - sweet potato and lentil curry with cucumber raita and naan bread... Mmmmm. I was good and let DH have most of the bread too... not that I think I had a choice in the matter Grin as getting between DH and bread is like trying to take a joint of beef away from a hungry wolf.

Huge well done to everyone who has lost weight or inches - you're all giving me a great example to aspire to.

momnipotent · 10/01/2012 08:31

That sounds like a good sustainable plan Piggles. That is often where my dieting attempts collapse - when I look into the future and it just seems like endless logging and counting and always always being attentive. I suppose all the slim people already are attentive naturally, but it just seems so depressing that this will be how it is forever. Blah.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 10/01/2012 10:14

I was really bad last night Blush

I scoffed a whole (big) packet of macadamias and dried cranberries Shock

Just meant to have a couple and then ended up wolfing the whole packet - don't even ASK how many WW points that was Sad

The only good news is as I was quite good the day before, I reckon if I do lots of exercise and have a few more "good" days without going into my weekly points, I can still earn it back by the end of the week. But I was hoping to save some points for treats at the weekend, oh well... At least that's one less temptation lying round the house now I suppose. They were left over from Christmas!

lydiathetattooedlady · 10/01/2012 10:56

Morning!
*five

  • so sorry to hear about your dad, i hope he gets well in time for his trip to india.

notvery im one of those that as soon as i get a twinge of hunger im looking for something to eat, which is another one to add to my list of how ive got this overweight. I don't think you should feel starving but im trying to teach myself to hold out for somethign to eat until i really need it not as soon as i think hmmmm im a bit peckish.

mcpie i did the 30day shred before my wedding and found i didnt lose much in lbs but i did in inches.

I've said id like to get to 9 1/2 stone, what i really want to get down to is a size 10 which i know is at about this weight. According to healthy weight ranges i should be about a stone less than this but i would look awful that thin! Id be all head and tits!

ancients well done on the 4lbs Envy

mynameis special k doesnt fill me up, neither do sultana bran or other 'healthy' cereals. I know they probably aren't very healthy but ive been having the belvita yoghurt biscuits and have found they fill me up until lunch which has gone from being 11.30 to 12.30. They may not work for everyone but work for me!

stealth dominos is my downfall, margarita on double decadence base...yummmmmmmmmmy! And its 2 for tuesday today Sad

i had a good day yesterday and to up my exercise i walked the 3 mile trip to nursery and then on to work, managed to do it in 45 minutes which i dont think is too bad especially as it is up 2 hills! Saves me pennies on bus fare too!

have a good day everyone!

MABS · 10/01/2012 11:51

you been so good though Stealth, don't beat yourself up! sorry about your dad Five x My personal trainer coming over 4 today for an hour , not seen him for a month, i WILL collapse!!

notveryinventive · 10/01/2012 13:25

Hello everyone.

Five I hope your dad gets well soon.
Am I right in thinking that the NHS is better than private then? How can a private hospital not have the right equipment? Or is private only better if its just a standard case with no complications.

Piggles Im just cutting out a couple of things at a time. I see it as a lifestyle change, but its not going to be overnight as I will never stick to it so just doing it bit by bit. ATM Im counting calories and logging everything, but Im hoping that once I have successfully changed my lifestyle and have done by a considerable length of time the logging and counting can stop. All too often people try to cut everything down at once and it doesnt last long. You are on to a good plan there, good luck in sticking at it and not being too hungry.

Today Im not having a great day, but Im just on my normal calories burned line and with yesterday being a good 300 calories below my target line to lose weight Im quite pleased. Im the same and dont like lying on here, thats part the reason why Ive stopped logging what Im eating on here, but I am logging everything on Food Focus so when I say how many calories I am down or up I know Im telling the truth.

Im hoping my Shred DVD will arrive tomorrow so I can start doing that too.

Good luck with the personal Trainer MABS thats something Id be tempted with if I could afford it.

MABS · 10/01/2012 17:32

ouch, that hurt :( and I have put 2lbs on! tho my BMI and Body fat have come down a bit.

Rowgtfc72 · 10/01/2012 17:58

Have lost 2lbs. Have just finished the christmas treats as well. Need to put serious effort in. May, and that wedding dress are looming !

momnipotent · 10/01/2012 19:10

Has anyone ever tried a detox/cleanse thing? I am pondering such a thing. I'm wondering if it might give me a head start on cutting my cravings/addictions.

KateSpade · 10/01/2012 19:59

I need something like this to keep me going!

my daughters 3mo, in the hospital i weighed 13.7st three months later i weight 12st 7! three months!

Have been trying so hard aswell, this week at WW, i put on three pounds, first week back at work, too much temptation! argh!

Kick up the ass, is needed!

fivegomadindorset · 10/01/2012 21:17

See MABS, sometimes it is not aout the weight although very Envy about yuor personal trainer.

Evening all.

Today has been OK.

2 slices toast low fat spread and Marmite for breakfast.
Apple and two chocolates for break.
Left over macaroni peas for lunch
Apple for afternoon break.
Jacket potato (low fat spread not butter) and cauliflower cheese.

Managed to not have something between coming home and supper which was good. I next need to sort out my portion sizes.

DDad is much better thank you for asking. He has to go in daily for tests this week and a final scan on Saturday and then hopefully that is it.

hi Kate :) off to BodyPump now ..

momnipotent · 11/01/2012 10:43

MABS, I am so impressed with all the exercise you're doing! And well Envy about your personal trainer.

I am going to try and stay off the scales for a bit and just work on changing some habits. I don't want to be obsessing about the number because it will only lead to frustration when it doesn't go down as fast as I want it to!

MABS · 11/01/2012 15:59

me too momnipotent, I know i am toning up and shouldn't be worried about the scales but i am! going up wasn't part of my plan :( I quite enjoy theexcerise really, it is 'me time' that sound really sad?

momnipotent · 11/01/2012 16:05

Not sad at all. I used to run and it was the only time I was ever by myself. Very motivating!

MABS · 11/01/2012 16:28

agree :) clears my head too
