I am at the age where it is just a matter of (short) time before I develop a health problem relating to my weight - joints, Type 2 diabetes or even a heart attack. It really is that serious.
I am sick of not having any "nice" clothes (don't want to invest until I lose weight Hmm).
I did it in summer, stuck to it for ages which is something I have never managed to do. I CAN do it again.

So here's the plan. Back to foodfocus as of tomorrow. No days off (logging, although I may choose to eat more than I am "allowed". Everything must be logged.
No excessive competitiveness with myself. I truly believe this is part of the reason it all went wrong.

3 or 4 lb to lose every week. Might sound a lot but it's easy when you're big - I'm sure I could do it by just eating 3 normal sized usual meals a day. So pathetic if I can't.

Coming back here to report on progress. Caring and supportive thread but not accepting bullshit excuses!
Anyone want to join me?

OP posts:
lilibet · 08/01/2012 13:20

I used Harrissa Paste - couldn't find anything chipotle

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 08/01/2012 15:52

Well I did fairly well yesterday and then realised that if I had used the (old) WW limit of 29 daily points instead of the new limit of 26 I would actually be within my total weekly points, despite a few bad days earlier in the week! Based on 26 points I was slightly over, but not as much over as I thought I would be, especially considering we ate out and went to the pub on Friday. I swam a whole mile yesterday which helped!

Doing fairly OK foodwise so far today too, but feeling a bit down and rubbish otherwise. Just very tired I think, but DH seems to keep making comments about me being grouchy - even when I wasn't actually feeling particularly grouchy! - which is starting to have the effect of making me actually quite grumpy Sad. Seemed like I couldn't even say "yes?" without him making out I was saying it in a miserable way. Not to mention that any time he catches me on here for even two seconds (when I am in charge of the DCs) he makes Hmm faces and "what are you doing on there again?" as if I am a Bad Mother and leaving them on their own all day. Grrr. Just hope it won't make me start eating everything again if I get too pissed off with him.

Well done lydia though, good for you!

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2012 16:00

Thanks - I got chilli paste in the end as couldn't find it.
Really looking forward to that!

Well weighed myself this morn as I do every Sunday. Last week I was 12st 4.4 lbs today I was 12st 3.8lbs, so Ive lost a few ounces so its something. My excuses are that I didnt really start till Tues, I did have a couple of bad days plus Ive only just started on the exercise. I walked to town and back yesterday and went out for a 40 min walk today :) Will walk a bit more this week and wait for my Shred DVD to come so I can do that as well.

Well done lydia for losing a bit.

So are we all feeling hungry all the time? I worry when I feel hungry because isnt it bad for you to feel hungry or does it just mean you will weight?

Liking the idea of mini-goals. I will get under 12stone by end of Jan and go back over as it is my birthday the end of this month There you go thats mine. :)

lilibet · 08/01/2012 19:01

Notvery I am feeling hungry but as my dh points out there are times when I am supposed to feel hungry. For example, I get in from work at five ish, I'm starving and while I'm making tea I eat several slices of bread and butter Blush.

An hour before tea I should feel hungry!

I am going to kick in with the exercise this week too. [honest emoticon]

Stealth I've made this for tonights tea - 301 calories per portion. I've made half and frozen half and I must say the portions look ample. I'll let you know. It's rare to find a veggie meal with aubergine that isn't loaded with lovely high fat cheese

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 08/01/2012 20:18

I am sometimes hungry, but more often tempted (by chocolate etc) when not really technically hungry - often quite soon after a meal! Though I occasionally end up leaving meals till very late and then obviously do get starving. And I have learned things like Special K for breakfast make me get very hungry by mid-morning... better to have porridge or normal cereal.

So far today I am doing quite well, think I will even be able to have a glass of wine later! Despite being down and cross with DH earlier. We had a very "good" tea - a sort of kedgeree thing with rice, veg and smoked haddock which was quite filling and tasty but not too many points; and there was enough left over to take some to work for lunch tomorrow too!

I think one of the hardest things is trying not to affect the DCs, as we eat together a lot so I don't want to restrict their diet too much or talk too much about it. Anyone else found that, or got any good tips to help?

johnnycomelurky · 08/01/2012 20:49

Thought I'd check in. My week has been ok. I had planned to do low GI diet while logging on MFP but found myself adding in bits of rubbish so decided to start with proper low-carbing yesterday. I forgot how crap I feel when not eating carbs! I had to eat to multiseed ryvitas this morning to make my headache go away. I also had a clementine. Apart from that though, I've been ok. I'm almost bang on my calories for the week on MFP, done my three runs for the week and hoping for a good weigh-in tomorrow.

I am really rubbish with keeping up with threads but have had a quick skim. Sounds like it's been a bit tough for most of us. I've definitely felt hungry but like lilibet I think that sometimes I should be hungry but in the past I wouldn't let myself get hungry so would do some pre-emptive eating

MyNameIs so with you on the Special K making you hungry, I have to eat something really fibre-ific for breakfast to stay full for very long. I think that Special K is ok for a snack but it is not filling enough for breakfast unless you eat half a box

I'll post tomorrow with my weight which will hopefully be less than I started at!

notveryinventive · 08/01/2012 21:21

Im hungry now and had my evening meal at 6, but I am just over my target calories so trying not to eat anything.

lilibet · 08/01/2012 23:22

I'm hungry too Sad. I need to go to bed

johnnycomelurky · 09/01/2012 08:59

It's been a tough week but I'm down 2.5lbs. So now 13st 0.5lbs. I will be into the 12's next week. Is anyone else weighing in today?

StealthPolarBear · 09/01/2012 09:07

Well done johnny :o

McPie · 09/01/2012 09:23

Well scales say Im down less than a lb which is no surprise with my weight loss track record! The only bonus is that on measuring my self after disasterous weigh in I seem to have lost 7 in, 3 of which came from my belly which I suppose I should be grateful for.
I dont know where I go wrong but it always happens this way so I think the scales have to go or I will end up feeling like a failure again and give up Sad

notveryinventive · 09/01/2012 10:15

Going to have an amazingly good day today. I have just logged all my food for today on Food focus and I still have over 600 calories to have. Might have to treat myself to a can of cherry coke today, but part of me is thinking not to have anything else to kind of make up for the last couple of days. Though it is a new week now.

McPie well done on the inch loss. In regards to the scales I wouldnt worry too much after all we all go on about losing weight when really its all about looking better and those inches lost will make you look better. Have you been exercising? Or even more active? Maybe some of the fat has turned to muscle which is heavier. Dont lose hope you can do it.

Johnny Well done :)

AncientsOfMuMu · 09/01/2012 10:39

One week in and 4lbs lost. Smile

I've loads to lose though, but at least it's a start which will keep me motivated for a while.

I'm finding it quite hard to just break the habit of eating at any time of the day. I keep opening the kitchen cupboard and looking for something to snack on. Somehow I don't think the cereal boxes will materialise into something more tasty.

Good luck to everyone else this week.

McPie · 09/01/2012 11:37

Thank you notveryinventive. I have been doing Ripped in 30 every day, on to week 2 day 2 now, and doing 6 week 6 pack and Killer Buns and Thighs along side on alternate days. I wont stop but have to remove weight from the equation for now, I was really good last week and cut out all sugar and savoury snacks but know that unless I really starve myself I dont lose much weight, which with 3 kids to run after is never going to happen. Will stick to clothes feeling better and if weight still resists at this pace then will speak to Dr when Im next down, about 2 months time.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 09/01/2012 12:12

Well done Johnny and Ancients!

McPie if you are doing that much exercise I bet you have lost more fat really but turned it to muscle (which is heavier)! So it sounds like you are doing well actually.

I was only 1lb down yesterday since last week, and actually 1lb up since an unofficial weighing in the week... but I hope that may also be partly due to lots of exercising, I have been doing loads in the last week - swimming, Zumba and restarted 30-day Shred (though I'm not trying to do it every day so I can mix things up a bit more).

Having a good day so far today: fruit, 0% yogurt and 1 crumpet for breakfast, and leftover healthy fish/rice thing from yesterday for lunch. Got a gammon slow-cooker recipe on for tonight which I think should be fairly good too, so just need to watch the snacking then!

notveryinventive · 09/01/2012 13:11

McPie Yes that is a lot of exercise (well a lot more than me) so it definately sounds like you have just turned the fat to muscle and toned up a lot. I think that too much emphasis is put on weight. Some people look great at 8st whereas others look better at 12 or 13st. I know I look my best anywhere between 10/11 stone and a size 12, but some people do try to be a size 6. Its what looks best for you. I think you should be congratulated anyway :)

Also well done to Ancients

momnipotent · 09/01/2012 14:03

Well done to all the losers!

Kids are off to school on their first day back so now it's my first day too.

So far, so good, but of course it's only 9am here. I've logged all my food for the day into MFP and I still have about 300 calories left so that's nice. Will have to spend them wisely. Got my starting weight and measurements this morning, was disappointing but not surprising. Hopefully all downhill from here! Lots of cooking on the weekend so hopefully all my meals are made for the week now (I'm the only veg*n in the house, so I usually eat differently to everyone else, but often end up having made kids' dinner and eating toast because I can't be arsed).

Just finished tolerating enjoying a bowl of oatmeal with strawberries. Feel motivated today. But I always find the first day is easy usually because I've stuffed myself stupid the day before

GlitterKitty · 09/01/2012 17:38

Just popping on to log I lost 2.5lbs last week- despite eating lots of choc crisps etc. Not been well since NY so I'm pleased to have lost anything.

I weigh on Sundays, must buck up and make more effort, I'd love another 2 off this week...

Well done everyone, keep strong, resist the Wine and Biscuit Grin

MABS · 09/01/2012 18:24

been good today and did short run, but no weightlosss :(

fivegomadindorset · 09/01/2012 19:06

Hello all,

Sorry didn't get to post yesterday, had to take Ddad back into hospital, didn't want mother to drive home in the dark.

And now have finally wrestled laptop back from DD.

Well done all on losses.

For a Sunday yesterday I was good, not to much eating crap and so weight was stable from Saturday to today which is good news.

So todays food intake

Two slices of toast and low fat spread and marmite.
Mozarella and pesto panini and a skinny hot chocolate at Costas, wasn't able to get home between work and picking up DC's.
2 dark chocolate digestive bicuits.
Survived DC's tea
Supper witll be macaroni peas.

New years resolution is to go veggie at least once a week and eat more fish so hopefully that will help with WL.

I will be starting Slimming WOrld this week.

Well done on weightloss one and all some fantastic losses this week.

MABS don't beat yourself up please, you are keeping fit which is a huge plus point, more than I am doing, and you have got a lot on your plate at the moment, promise me that you will try to eat more properly.

Can I also say that I am finding this thread really helpful, I can lie to myself but feel that I can't lie to you all so that is massively helping me.

MABS · 09/01/2012 19:19

thanks Five, much appreciated, I did eat better today thanks, but still v stressed really.

agree re the thread, i feel i don't want to lie here either :) so i will admit i have just poured a large glass of wine :(

fivegomadindorset · 09/01/2012 20:50

I turned down seconds this evening.

StealthPolarBear · 09/01/2012 20:52

Well I have quite definitely had a day off which culminated in a domino's stuffed crust pizza. Ahem.
Oh well - I logged it and I haven't actually gone over my daily "stay still" limit, so it is just a day off and not a step back. And I'm away tomorrow so will be good then.
five, apols if I have missed something, I know you have mentoned this before but what is up with your Dad? Hope he is OK.
lili - I made the borlotti bean thing to take with me tomorrow. I tasted the beans as they were cooking, it was so nice! DH is having the avocado version, bleurgh :o
