So, here we have our nice new little thread. No food type is banned from being mentioned. It is Xmas afterall Xmas Wink. So pull up a comfy chair, I've put a good film on the telly for you, put some logs on the fire and laid out some snacks. We have stollen, mince pies, chocs, shortbread, smelly cheese and crackers, wine and baileys.

Feel free to add anything else!

This thread will self destruct later in the new year, so don't worry about confessing to eating naughty nibbles, or putting on the odd pound (or 8).

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Xmas Grin

midori sorry to hear about the mastitis, my friend had it about 8 times too, she tried everything but I'll ask her to see if there was anything that helped. I bf both of mine and was incredibly lucky, no problems at all, although DD2 gave me up at 8mo Shock

Also jealous of Vietnamese food, never tried it but sounds delicious.

pixie it was more than just a few QS... anyway... draw a line, draw a line...

Food today-
B- bacon and egg
L- carrot, squash and lentil soup
D- roast chicken and veg
S- 2 weetabix after my run
SYNS- NONE AFTER THE SYNFEST YESTERDAY!!

midori1999 · 20/01/2012 10:53

cheese Thankyou. I was/am determined to stick at it this time as I stopped with my first 3 DC pretty early on (3 weeks was the longest) due to thinking not enough milk, couldn't EE etc. but none of that was actually true for me, I just didn't have enough info. It's shit when you have to give up and you don't want to, but 4 months is amazing, not may women even get to that long. I've posted in the BF section too. The whole thing seems a bit of a mystery, but most likely down to the oversupply and/or my implants. I'm hoping as my supply goes down as she feeds less it will stop.

What is the 'Sherlock' everyoe is talking about? The film? Old or new? And as ANTM has been mentioned, I have just remember I have series recorded it and watched none so far, so will do that today.

DS seems much better, although hasn't got his usual appetite, so may just be a bit tired/off colour. He's OK in himself though, so that's good.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 20/01/2012 11:01

Midori there are 2 Sherlocks out and about at the moment. The second Guy Ritchie film with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, and the BBC series updated to the 21st century. The films are extremely silly but huge fun. The BBC series is nothing less than astonishing - despite it being totally updated it is roughly 1,000 times more faithful to the spirit of the original stories than any other adaptations ever ever ever. Apart from anything else it is the most wonderful platonic love story, which is what the stories were almost about more than anything else.

Sorry, best not to get me started on Holmes stuff generally, we'll be here all day Grin

kid · 20/01/2012 12:22

I got a phonecall today to collect DS from school. He had a migraine last night but was fine this morning. But by 10:15, he had another migraine.
Luckily I was able to take the rest of the day off work and he currently curled up on the settee watching spongebob or something similar.
I do feel sorry for him though, its the 3rd migraine since Monday.
I've been getting a lot of headaches too which I think could be classed as migraines as they are made worse by light and noise and my vision goes a bit strange. I don't vomit though, unlike DS who usually does.

Oh well, I guess it gives me time to either plan my SW menu, clean the house or browse the web. Yep, I think I'll stick to browsing the web Grin

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2012 12:23

midori - I presume that you have studied the oversupply section on kellymom and are block feeding, hand expressing a small amount before a feed etc? I have been very lucky as in 6 years of constant feeding (much of it tandem) I have only ever had one slightly blocked duct, and no mastitis. I have had oversupply issues though.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2012 12:24

kid just a thought, but you don't have anything that could be leaking gas or carbon monoxide do you?

midori1999 · 20/01/2012 12:43

TSP, thanks for explaining. I did see the first Sherlock Holmes (recent) film, but haven't yet seen the second. I didn't realise there was a series. I can see you're a fan! Grin

Kid, sorry your DS is ill, hope his migraine goes soon. I get them and they're dreadful!!!

CSWS I did block feed when DD was younger, but I don't now as she mostly only feeds from one side at a time anyway and my supply is much more regulated. It just goes mad again if she feeds a bit more one day or for a couple of days. I don't get engorged these days unless she sleeps for ages at night, which doesn't happen often! It doesn't seem the mastitis is caused by blocked ducts in my case, but overful breasts, even when they are not engorged. I think maybe this time it's a bit of a blip because DD has fed loads the few days and increased my supply again, then she wouldn't feed much as we were out and she's nosey. I'll probably try and hand express a bit in that situation again. Thankyou!!! If I do get pregnant again quite soon, hopefully DD will continue to feed and I can tandem feed. 6 years is some going! Brilliant!

kid · 20/01/2012 12:49

Definitely no gas leaking as we only have electricity in our house.
He seems fine to me as he is now playing the xbox and hasn't asked for lunch yet or any headache tablets Hmm I am timing him on the xbox and he will be turning it off within the hour.
When the school phoned me, I asked to speak to him as I wasn't convinced. He told he had a really bad headache and felt sick so I believed him. I do hope he isn't lying as next time, I won't go and get him until hometime.

midori1999 · 20/01/2012 13:12

My DS (11) has lied to get home from school. Last time he tried in the morning but I sent him anyway as I suspected fakery. Then school rang me at 10am to go and get him as 'he is so ill, really lethargic and not himself at all' and lo and behold, once he was home he soon perked up. A stern talking to worked as he hasn't done it again since.

They're little monkeys, aren't they?

Riapwhatyousow · 20/01/2012 16:18

I know what a parmo is!!! (Only because a MNetter on a previous weight-loss thread told me. But I think there is a new grotty takeaway in town that sells them)

your job sounds very interesting pixie, but a bit on the stressful side.

am tidying DS1s bedroom... need Wine

grinningbee · 20/01/2012 16:49

Hello lovelies

Sorry for not being around for a bit. I will catch up properly today or tomorrow, but just a quicky for now.

I took M to the hospital today for her diagnosis (her dh met us there, then went back to work). It is terminal Sad. She will be starting chemo, and radiotherapy. Depending on that maybe an op to the brain tumour. It was confirmed in the lymph glands. The lung cancer is advanced. They told her she might have months, or maybe up to 2 years. It's small cell so slow growing (hope that's a good thing).

I put a proper update in the other thread.

Totally gutted, as I had held onto a small hope that it would all be ok.

She rang her dc while I was taking her home, to tell them the news. Awful.

Back later on to see what you've all been up to Smile

kid · 20/01/2012 17:14

I am so sorry to hear the update on your friend, it doesn't sound good. The only glimmer of hope is that they are still willing to offer treatment to extend her life at this point.
Its when they stop all treatment that you know her time is coming to an end.
A friend of mines mum was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago. She was told she had 6 months, she died 5 days later on her birthday Sad
DH's was diagnosed 8/9 years ago and is still going strong. She really is the original Super Gran!

I have decided that DS could have stayed at school today. I do hope he doesn't pull a stunt like this again. I will have to send some painkillers in to the school so they can at least be given that to try and prevent the migraine from getting to the point of vomitting. I am so lucky my work are so supportive, but I don't want to take advantage and appear to be unreliable. I could count on one hand the amount of time I have had off in the last 11 years though so I'm definitely not unreliable.

kid · 20/01/2012 17:20

I've just started looking at some new recipes. I've only managed to copy one out so far (butter chicken) which looks quite nice.

I had pea and leek pasta today, it was lovely and very quick to prepare.
Incase anyone is interested, you fry thinly sliced leeks and frozen peas. Cook the fusili pasta in vegetable stock.
Keep 1oz water from pasta. Mix 1oz (I think but I just used a big spoonful) of philidelphia with garlic and herbs in the retained stock.
Mix the peas, leeks and pasta in the philidelphia and stock making sure you cover it all. Season and enjoy Smile

I like it because its tasty but also because its quick.

debka · 20/01/2012 20:08

bee so sorry to hear about your friend. As kid said, the fact they are willing to offer some treatment is good. My mum has secondary (terminal) cancer. The dr gave her 3-5 years- it's been 4 years now and she is going strong. She's had 2x chemo, 1x radiotherapy and has treatment (herceptin) every 3 weeks but her prognosis doesn't look bad at all. I hope your friend does as well.

kid that pasta sounds yum, I bet you could put ham in too. My dds would love that.

Just back in from my run, weetabix is calling....

TheScarlettPimpernel · 20/01/2012 21:10

Oh gosh Bee, I'm really sorry - and I'm so sorry about your Mum too, debka. I hope so much that they can both defy expectations.

Just in from my Night Off. It wasn't that great food-wise and I think I have eaten my own bodyweight in cheese - but I did leave about 1/4 of my pizza. In the greater scheme of things that's a bit farting in the face of thunder, but it was another tiny triumph!

Tomorrow I am also out in the evening having supper with a pal & I don't know where. Hmph. I can't be having 2 nights off Hmm

Sun, Mon and Tues I am going to do a sort of detox extra strong effort 'cos if I have 2 weeks in a row of not losing weight I will go mental and spend the rest of my life face-down in a doner kebab and I'm not even joking.

debka · 20/01/2012 21:12

TSP do you do much exercise? That might boost your loss a bit, get the old metabolism going.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/01/2012 21:32

How many syns on diary milk buttons?!

TheScarlettPimpernel · 20/01/2012 21:44

Debka I walk, mostly - recently stepped up my game in the last month or so. I walk home from work (3.5 miles) and usually go for a 3-5 mile walk on days I don't work.

It's not as intensive as going to the gym or going to a class, but I don't enjoy those, and I do like walking & can build it into my life (like walking home from work, and tomorrow I'll walk to meet my pal at Waterloo which will be about 4-5 miles).

It's really hard to strike a balance between being low cal/high exercise enough to lose weight - but doing something sustainable and enjoyable so I can stick with it for months without getting depressed!!

Cheese aren't they syn-free? [innocent face]

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/01/2012 21:46

I'm sure they are

Riapwhatyousow · 20/01/2012 22:06

so sorry about your friend bee

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2012 22:14

Very sorry bee :(.

If you added ham to that pasta debka then it would no longer be free on green, and it would only be free on extra easy if you added a load of other fruit/veg as it is.
It does sound nice kid. Wish I could have dairy - would give me so many more pasta options.

Food for today (was going to be green, but had a last minute change to ee to use up stuff, so some odd combinations)
B - wholewheat spaghetti, banana
snack: apple
L - leftover lamb + orzo. leftover crab and rice noodle salad. Mango. Pear.
D - lamb steak, chips (potato and parsnip), egg, broccoli, sugar snap peas. Kiwi.
rice pudding. mango.
Might have some toast later.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/01/2012 22:27

Oh I did not want to know that csws

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2012 22:39

It might hurt but it's for your own good Grin. How many did you have?

kid · 20/01/2012 23:10

I bought myself a kindle today, I'm hooked on it already. I've finished reading one book on it 'dead(ish)' and now I'm reading 'their newborn gift'.
I've only downloaded some free books but I plan to buy some at some point.
I'm not impressed with te internet connection on it, but I didn't buy it for that.

FriendofDorothy · 21/01/2012 00:02

I went to the cinema tonight and instead of buying one of the massive bags of sweets I took a tube of Fruit Gums with me - 8.5 syns. So, I ate sweets, but at least I know how many I ate!
