So, here we have our nice new little thread. No food type is banned from being mentioned. It is Xmas afterall Xmas Wink. So pull up a comfy chair, I've put a good film on the telly for you, put some logs on the fire and laid out some snacks. We have stollen, mince pies, chocs, shortbread, smelly cheese and crackers, wine and baileys.

Feel free to add anything else!

This thread will self destruct later in the new year, so don't worry about confessing to eating naughty nibbles, or putting on the odd pound (or 8).

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Xmas Grin

That's great thanks Cheese.
Haven't much to lose as lost a lot last year but it's actually very hard losing just a little. I'm 10 4 and need to lose half a stone which would take me to my goal of 9 11 .
So how do you make your own couscous ? Sounds a great idea .
I'll def weigh in with you on Wednesdays please . Thanks

Cheeseandbiscuits · 08/01/2012 11:27

Well done you! That's fab. Put into a bowl the amount of cous cous you want. Add boiling hot water until it just covers the cous cous , add lemon juice and cover with cling film. Leave for 5min and it should be done! Then I mix in whatever I want; cucumber, toms, chicken, roasted veg. It's really really nice with fresh mint. You could add some herby cottage cheese I guess.
I will look out some recipes for you this week and add them for you.
I love couscous! So easy.

wildstrawberryplace · 08/01/2012 11:51

Good morning!

Ok so yesterday I stuck to plan all day and this was my meals:

Breakfast: porridge oats (HEXB) and 0% Total greek yog with a chopped apple
Coffee with whole milk (HEXA)

Snack: 6 x small crab sticks and 2 satsumas

Lunch: Plain jacket potato with homemade lentil curry with prawns (free) and loads of steamed brussels sprouts.

Snack: apple

Dinner: Rice, lentil curry (free) and stir fried veg, with dollop of fat free yog.
satsuma and an apple

Was starving before bed so used 10 syns on small bowl of porridge/milk/golden syrup.

Lots of water.

I think I'm probably just feeling bad because it's the first few days. I seem to recall that you always feels shit on starting any kind of "diet" for a few days, as your body cries out saying whoa there what the jeff are you doing, but then after a few days it gets used to it. Yes? Please say yes

wildstrawberryplace · 08/01/2012 11:56

I couldn't get to sleep last night as my body felt very unpleasant and sort of buzzing, then I had to get up three or four times for a wee (not like me) - so I think that's my initial diet water weight going! Hope I'm going to click into weight loss mode now and stop the whingeing!

FriendofDorothy that chicken katsu looks good, I'm going to make it tonight I think. Thanks.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 08/01/2012 12:40

recipes

Feel free to add any, we need some new ones!

FriendofDorothy · 08/01/2012 12:54

ooo a recipe thread. Fab. Will have a look through and see if I can add anything when I get home :)

kid · 08/01/2012 13:41

I got to bed a little earlier but then played a game on my phone so I probably just got to bed an extra 30-45 minutes earlier. But, i didn't get up till 9:30 so I am happy with that Grin

I passed on the bike ride this morning, I let DH go out with DS while I stayed in and sorted out the house. It was lovely to have a quiet house to myself for a change.

I am not going to be great on the diet today, I have probably used most of my sysn already but I'm not good at counting them properly at the moment.

So far, I've had:
Kippers, scrambled eggs and mushrooms
Chelsea Bun

I still plan to have:
Leg of lamb covered in garlic, rosemary and olive oil (shared between 6 people, I won't eat the whole leg!), roast potatoes (I'm thinking of cooking my separately with fry light instead of the olive oil everyone else likes) frozed veg - brocolli, brussels, carrots, gravy.
White wine spritzers (maybe) or Diet coke
Sugar free jelly

Does that sound okay, can I improve what I am going to have in any way? It doesn't look too bad written down but it doesn't sound much like diet food but I guess thats the idea with SW. I will aim to have at least half of my plate filled with the veg.

Good luck to the new comers, I am sure you will get lots of useful support and advice here. Its great as there is usually someone around to have a natter with.

pixiestix · 08/01/2012 19:33

Hello to all and to the newbies.

I have fallen off the wagon baaaaaaadly Blush
Start again tomorrow Sad

SlinkyB · 08/01/2012 21:42

Me too Pixie !! Bad, bad weekend, but tomorrow is another day (with no birthday parties to attend).

Have discovered I enjoy baking. Never had a hobby before, so it's nice, plus dss enjoys helping too. Shame we have to sample the finished goods ! Good job we've a big family to help out. Am practicing ready for ds's 1st birthday celebrations at the end of the month.

Having chicken stir-fry tomorrow night, not sure about Tuesday, just doing my meal planning now. Dp has offered to cook, so it'll have to be something simple. I must be saintly all week now, yawn.

Wish I had the time inclination to start the 30 Day Shred again, that was brilliant last year.

kid · 08/01/2012 22:13

I decided not to over do it with the wine today, but I did have a spritzer tonight after I'd dropped PIL off home.
I've made DD and DH lunch for tomorrow but still haven't decided what to have myself which isn't good as that means I am likely to end up having something that isn't SW friendly. I need to have a look through my previous weeks meals to see if there is something quick I can make tonight or in the morning before work. I only have white bread here so it definitely won't be a sandwich. I pass Tesco on the way to work, so could pop in and pick something up from there if anyone can suggest something healthy.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 08/01/2012 22:39

slinky what are you doing for his birthday? I can't decide what to do for DDs first birthday, our house isn't really big enough for a party with my massive family. So I'd have to hire something, and that's v pricey in London. Anyway, what were you baking today?

kid get a bag of salad, some cooked chicken and some uncle bend microwave rice or aisles harriott cous cous.

We are halfway through a huge clear out. The lounge looks awesome, I'm so pleased. There isn't much furniture left but plenty of room for DDs toys!

kid · 08/01/2012 22:45

perfect, thanks cheese

kid · 08/01/2012 22:52

we're taking DD bowling for her birthday next week.

SlinkyB · 08/01/2012 23:10

Hey cheese, bummer that you're not moving now, but sounds like de-cluttering has been successful Smile. We're not moving til the end of Feb now, although still waiting to exchange, so all subject to change again.

Our house is waaaay too small for a party...so I'm having four instead !Everyone said not to bother until ds is at least 3, as he'll find it overwhelming and not enjoy it/it'll be stressful etc etc, but I haven't listened no change there then. So, on the Friday and Saturday I'm having friends and their babies around between 12-2pm (just a 'drop-in' and say "hi" thing, bit of cake and some decorations, no games or anything as no room). Just wish I hadn't invited 17 babies + parents ! But there's always politics with invites, innit? Hmm. Have 11 confirmed so far...

On the Sunday afternoon from 3pm I'm having my family over for a few drinks and nibbles, and then on the Monday (T's actual birthday) dp's family will come over for a 'birthday tea' in the evening.

Phew, I'm exhausted just thinking about it! I've only just learnt how to do sponge cake so far, so am planning a basic Victoria for the actual birthday cake (topped with a little buttercream icing and Smarties/Chocolate buttons). But this am I made fairy/butterfly cakes as have bought a cake stand and am going to put a load on that for people to help themselves to/take home in party bags. Err, can you tell I've got the laptop on?! Wink.

I think it'd be a shame for you not to do something for dd's birthday, it's an important milestone for you all I think...but then I'm a shameless party animal: 'any excuse for a piss-up' will probably be on my gravestone Grin.

happynewRia · 08/01/2012 23:41

I hate to appear a victim to sleb-shagging culture, but Tana Ramsey's Blush "boys" birthday cake is the best ever and SO easy. I got the recipe off MN a couple of years ago, but bought myself the book last week with the actual method in too, and it's fab. (Dniece said it was the best cake she's ever eaten!!! and even my parents said "this is lovely, did you make it????") Now I am not called Ria for nothing, but cakes I can usually manage, so I consider that praise indeedWink

I managed to get as far as the restaurant at 3.50pm before DS2 found out about his surpriseSmile. He is 8, and he wasn't having a party, but I happened upon an ad for a local italian restaurant that was doing cooking parties for £5 per child (! bargain), so they've had 2 hours of making (from scratch - dough, sauce and everything) and eating pizza. FAB! Smile

full english brunch and chinese takeaway today Blush back to normality and SW tomorrow though...

this morning I found out why the trousers I bought in September last year didn't fit me - the previous wearer had taken them in by about 3 inches! I knew I wasn't that fat when I bought them. Sadly I have done a fair bit of comfort eating since then (thinking I probably was that fat), and so even though now I've unpicked them I can get them on, they weren't comfy. Pah!

don't want to go back to school tomorrowSad and it is DS1s ridiculously early start daySad. Should go to bed.

hi to new postersSmile Is there another thread running alongside this one? what is the chicken recipe you mentioned?

happynewRia · 08/01/2012 23:43

ah, bad grammar. sorryBlush

midori1999 · 09/01/2012 02:03

Can I join please? I've started SW again this morning, although as yet I haven't decided if I'm going to just do it at home or go to a group.

My starting weight is 13st 7lb and I'd like to eventually get to 11st.

One thing I'm not sure of... I'm breastfeeding and think I'm really going to struggle to include all the extra healthy extras, although I always eat loads on SW. Will it really matter if I'm eating enough? Today went like this:

Brunch: 2 ww sausages, 3 rashers bacon, 2 grilled tomatoes, 2 fried eggs, huge pile of mushrooms (fried in fry light). Muller light.

Dinner: 2 1/2 pork loin steaks, HExB boiled new pots, loads of veg. Muller light

Supper: big bowl honeydew melon, thawed frozen berries and dollop of natural fat free yoghurt

Late night snack: HExB 2 slices toast with marmite, nectarine.

I use my HExA's for milk in coffee.

That's surely enough food, isn't it?

TheScarlettPimpernel · 09/01/2012 10:06

MORNING ALL! Morning newbies!

Right, back in the saddle. The weekend of socialising with the olds wasn't too bad - only one lapse in the form of a date pudding, because I just couldn't bring myself to serve those who Brought Me Up an Activia Yogurt for pudding Blush - and have 2 days to really give the heft the boot before the Day of Doom Grin

Am back at work, which should boost my loss mostly because I walk home. Food today - slightly uncertain as might have to go and stay with a distressed friend, but she understands the urgency of my shifting the suet, so hopefully will be OK:

B - Belvita biccies
L - oatcakes, low fat cream cheese, banana, muller light
D - not sure yet but I think veg curry and an egg (parp parp!)

Right, off to read the thread...

TheScarlettPimpernel · 09/01/2012 10:16

Hi Wildstrawb, sorry you were feeling a bit mizz. I'm not actually doing SW anymore - it wasn't working for me because I am a pig! - but I did do it a while back and lost 3.5 stone and honestly honestly it doesn't feel at all restrictive once you've got the hang of it.

This thread is giving me serious nostalgia for SW food - Bee I used to love smoked salmon pasta made with 99p trimmings...and now I seriously want some Singapore noodles

I second cous cous lunches, FakeB. I used to use an HEA and shove some feta in too. 'Twas yum.

Ria a cooking party for your DS is quite possibly the best idea EVER can I come? Grin

Huffpot · 09/01/2012 11:02

Hi Newbies
Lovely to meet you all
I'll pop some recipes on the thread when I'm on the computer not the phone
I'm trying to drink more water too as I'm terrible with that and I heard somewhere it might boost the weight loss

I do EE
Breakfast:weetbix and banana with hot water and a bit of milk from healthy extra A
lunch: prob a jacket potato with beans and salad
dinner: sweet chilli chicken(from the recipe thread on here),rice and veg

grinningbee · 09/01/2012 11:19

Morning all,

Welcome to the new people Smile I'm sure a read through the thread will help work out what's what.

What a day. We are in the running for 2 houses, but could end up with neither. One is a 2 bed in a lovely road, one is a 3 with a big garden but in a rough area - and is waiting to have the current occupant evicted. Won't know anything for a few weeks. I am majorly disappointed as I'd stupidly got my hopes up.

But just got a call to say a good friend went into hospital last night. She lost feeling down one side of her body and had been stumbling/falling before that. Her dh thought she was drunk. Brain tumour. Having tests as I type. Have bawled like a baby but that helps no-one. Her husband is at work Angry. I can't go as no-one to have the dc. I was only sat talking to her yesterday afternoon. Thankfully dd is at playgroup, but M is like a surrogate granny to her. What on earth am I going to tell her?

Sorry for rambling Blush

Food:

Ready brek, banana, ryvita and 1tsp marmalde
Cheese triangles on toast, fruit, fromage frais with 1 tsp jam in it
Left over Shepherd's Lentil Pie

Can we start 2012 again?

OP posts:
TheScarlettPimpernel · 09/01/2012 11:23

Oh Bee what awful news: I am so very sorry Sad

Perhaps you could wait until your friend has some test results and they know more before talking to your DD? Some tumours are benign and it might be a case simply of an op and recovery, if you see what I mean. Sending all the good wishes and hopes in the world. I do feel for you: oddly enough I found out last night that a dear friend's mother now has secondary cancer in the brain, and I will be staying with her tonight Sad Sad I agree, can we rewind the beginning of the year now, please.

Huffpot · 09/01/2012 12:09

Oh no Bee and TSP!
What awful awful news

i agree with TSP...may be best to leave telling DD until you know whats going on from tests and hopefully can answer any questions she hashugs

Cheeseandbiscuits · 09/01/2012 12:28

Oh my bee, thats awful. . Agree with TSP many brain tumours are benign and need an op or radiotherapy. Best to wait for result, hey? Would you like a Brew?

Hi midori, I will look up the breastfeeding advice on SW website in a bit. I can't remember what is was when i was feeding DD. You really need to keep the cals up though.

Ria that sounds like a fab fab party, great idea! Glad all enjoyed.

TSP glad you had a great weekend. I agree, I wouldn't dare serve my parents a yog either! Sorry to hear your pals news, bloody awful.

slinky I hadn't thought about a drop in session. What a great idea. Her birthday is a Fri so I might have a lovely day with her and DH on the Fri,then family for a birthday tea Fri and friends over weekend.

Right food:
B: fruit
L: Chicken, cous cous and roasted veg
D: Shepherds Lentil pie
HEA: milk for tea and coffee
HEB: I fancy some hobbit toast laters or maybe porridge before bed?

This afternoon we are off to do the Christmas returns. Not too much; 2 jumpers and a charm. Plus DD needs PJ's. I will walk there and back which is about a 2 mile round trip. It will hopefully burn some cals!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 09/01/2012 12:33

midori how old is your baby? And are you doing Extra easy or original / green?
