Hi JG, yes was me making soup! Is v easy as long as you have a blender, just some chopping to do really. I tend to follow a recipe, but all are basically bunging some veg in a pan and adding stock. If you use things like carrots/ potatoes/ in season veg is also v cheap as well as good for you. Some good easy recipes here:
www.rivernene.co.uk/recipes/recipecategory.php?catid=2
and bbc good for searching for recipes toowww.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/
I normally double the quantities and often freeze some in portions, and use stock cubes (too much faff making your own imo and still tastes far better than bought soup.

Have lots of books of recipes so can post some here if that helps

omtmum · 04/01/2006 11:35

UCM received all the emails. Managed to avoid the chocolate machine at the sports centre at DS1 early morning lesson. have to go back this pm for DS2 so am going to not take any money then I can't buy my twix!! Is always a weak moment as am always starving and tired mid afternoon.(DS3 not sleeping) Will take a banana instead!

JenumGeranium · 04/01/2006 11:37

Thanks melrose - so do you just chop up the veg and put it in a pan with the stock and heat up?

Sorry, I am not very good at cooking

pindy · 04/01/2006 11:38

So far today - 1 slice brown toast and an oxo

JenumGeranium · 04/01/2006 11:40

an oxo?

On your toast?

melrose · 04/01/2006 11:41

JG do you ahve a blender as for most soups you need to blend it all after cooking (hand held one OK)

JenumGeranium · 04/01/2006 11:49

Yeah I think I do somewhere. Will probably have to blow the dust away as I havnt used it in ages!

melrose · 04/01/2006 12:06

OK, this very good easy one to start with:

LEEK AND POTATO SOUP

400g (1lb) leeks
200g (8oz) potatoes
1 medium onion
1-2 tbsp olive oil
750ml vegetable stock
250ml milk
Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice the leeks and roughly chop the potatoes and onion. Saute the vegetables in oil for 10 minutes over low heat

  2. Add the stock and season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

  3. Stir in the milk. Transfer to a liquidiser and blend until smooth. Reheat gently before serving.

JenumGeranium · 04/01/2006 12:11

Thanks - will give it a go!

JenumGeranium · 04/01/2006 12:33

I am just having fish pie for my lunch.

Had weetabix minis (choc ones) with semi skimmed milk for brekkie and a cup of tea and a banana mid morning!

I am feeling rotten - full of cold - but will still battle on and I have to go to the job centre soon to file a claim for unemployment benefit - just want to curl up in bed

SleepyJess · 04/01/2006 12:35

Can I join please. Will email now.

sylvev · 04/01/2006 12:48

Hi
Just had boiled egg with dry toast (yumm), but motivation level high.
Re: exercise, we have the lateral thigh and bum trainer (endlessly advertised on tv shopping channels). It is really good, (my husband uses it more than me at the moment) and when I used it,(last summer) it made a real difference. I use it in front of the tv and watch the music channels.
If anyone is thinking of buying one, it is worth shopping around. I think I got the cheapest price from Littlewoods catalogue.

Anyway, have to sew labels on uniforms now, so that will keep my fingers occupied for a while!

longwaytogo · 04/01/2006 13:54

I got the email with the chart. Thanks.
Really going to have to knuckle down to this if i'm going to get anywhere. Have had 3 squares of dairy milk and 6 rolos but apart from that not been bad - even walked to playgroup this morning.

CountessDracula · 04/01/2006 13:56

I have had

A bowl of grape nuts with skimmed milk
About 10 grapes
fruit tea

Ryvita with cottage cheese & pineapple (v low fat), beetroot, tomatoes and a tiny bit of low fat cream cheese (which is yum!)

Tonight am having waitrose healthy curry which is vg 300 cals and small amount of fat and maybe a yoghurt

And no booze!

SleepyJess · 04/01/2006 14:02

Is it too late for me to join?

lilibet · 04/01/2006 14:52

Bubblerock, I realy fancy one of those as I have dodgy knees and think it would be easy on them, is it really hard work? And can you fold it away?

vicmum · 04/01/2006 15:37

Hi UCM, just to let you know I got the email and chart. Thank you... It will be good to have each others support while we do this...and am looking forward to shifting a stone - what is the timeframe for this? Have not really dieted before so I don't know how much to expect to lose every week..

All going well so far here - am planning to go for long walk with the pram everyday for my excercise.

JenumGeranium · 04/01/2006 16:19

This is the time of day that I get hungry

Dont really feel like eating fruit - so what alternative healthy snack can I have?

unicorn · 04/01/2006 16:21

just found myself nibbling at the kids dinner - without even thinking about it... aha, probably explains the pounds/stones that have piled on me over the last few years.

Healthy snacks that aren't fruit... hmmm, can't think at the moment, but will be interested too.

melrose · 04/01/2006 17:16

I have a friend who squirts washing up liquid on kids leftovers as soon as they have finished to stop herself nibbling.

I ahd Oatcakes with v low fat cream cheese as a snack and were v nice.

Rissotto for dinner (Is that healthy? Making it with prawns so no cheese) then off to yoga

UCM · 04/01/2006 17:50
