Sparkling don't beat yourself up with this, part of the joy is letting go of all the guilt and angst. :)

I agree with BBB though, read the book through and then start listening to the CD. There is no need to have mastered all the visualisations or anything, I haven't yet and I've been doing this 8-9 months.

I've done ok this weekend, not managing to fit much exercise in though and I really do want to.

StarryEyedMama · 22/01/2012 22:43

Hi All

I've decided to take the leap and buy the book. Does anyone have any tips for a first timer? I'd love to read the whole thread and I'm sure in time I will but right now I have a mountain of laundry to do and need to ignore the Terry's Chocolate Orange that is calling me!

MardyBra · 23/01/2012 00:04

Starry - welcome to the thread. My advice would be to follow the four rules properly and listen to the CD regularly. That's it really.

ppeatfruit · 23/01/2012 08:37

Morning all! babysbreath Are you eating a lot late at night? 'cos that's one way, with or without P.Mc., I can either put on (if I'm eating then ) or TAKE OFF weight (if I don't eat late or have a cup of herbal and an apple)instead of a meal.

KinkyDorito · 23/01/2012 08:40

Hello all.

I thought I would pop in just to say I'm still ticking over fine. I listen to the CD a lot and I think this really helps me. I've not lost weight for a week though, so that's made me a bit narked.

ppeatfruit · 23/01/2012 09:05

BTW folks P.Mc. is very clear about exercise and weight loss; if you LOVE running and shredding etc. then fine BUT if you don't then good regular stretching, dancing and walking ,not all at the same time Grin, of course, and just normal living will be plenty to facilitate the weight loss And IME that's true Grin.

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/01/2012 09:38

Starry - I am properly re-reading the book again (haven't read it all the way through since the first read through nearly 6 yrs ago when I did bugger all about itBlush) and the last page I read last night was that if you follow one rule it should be enjoy everything you eat because everything else should follow out of that.

When you have had enough you stop enjoying it so you stop eating. If you aren't hungry you won't enjoy it so don't eat. If you eat something because you think it is good for you rather than because you want to eat it you won't enjoy it so don't eat it. Mr McK is of course, right. Well he should be really, he wrote the book! But still, it was doing a proper re-reading just for a reminder of that point.

Solo · 23/01/2012 11:43

Hello. Not read the thread for the past day or so.

I want to eat. I just want to eat. I have been in tears this morning and now I want to eat.

I think my extension (dining room) is falling away from the main building (again). I had broken drains before and this was sorted 12 years ago. I don't go out in my garden much because after years of my garden being vandalised, I gave up and left it to rot basically. My children have never played in the garden :( how sad is that...

So, I'd noticed that the lining paper in the dining room had started to 'pull' again. Noticed that the paper actually has a very fine crack down it on both sides of the room. Noticed that the coving is lifting from the wall and cracked at the join to the ceiling. Ventured outside today and discovered that the original crack has indeed opened up again. I'm screaming inside! I just don't know what I'm going to do.

I have leylandii trees in my 'garden' some of which are quite close to the house. I can't find any information about the root system of these trees. I hate them, but they are so big, it'd cost me a fortune to have them removed/felled...
All this on top of the need for a new roof for the dining room. Damp sorting out. desperately needing new wiring throughout the house (no lights in the kitchen or hall at all). Loads of other stuff too and no money!

So. I want to eat.

DorisIsWaiting · 23/01/2012 12:52

Oh Solo that's shit!

I can completely understand why.

Break things down into bite sized chunks. Are any of these near you here you could ask if they need any trees for practice??

Deal with things a morning or an hour at a time.

FWIW mum and dad had a guy come and remove a load of trees for them and it was £200 but prices varied massively.

It's gutting when your house constantly gets you down....

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/01/2012 13:02

Oh blimey Solo :(

Do you think it is the trees causing the problem?

That is a good idea about trying a college to see if any trainees need practice.

Big hugs my lovely

I have just listened to the CD while DS2 naps (DS1 at preschool). It works vastly better when I listen to it during the day rather than at night. I think at night that I actually fall sound asleep and so while it goes in a bit, it doesn't work so well.

KinkyDorito · 23/01/2012 13:18

Aww, Solo, that's crap. I really hope you get it sorted. I like Ali's idea about seeing if college have any trainees. Sending you many hugs and a big virtual pizza that won't make you heavy!!

My house is a PITA, so you really have my sympathies.

I also want to eat as hospital have called to tell me they think DD has another nasty condition on top of the leukaemia. I feel soooooo fed up. She has to go and see a liver specialist. Sad

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/01/2012 13:21

Kinky :( ((hugs))

ppeatfruit · 23/01/2012 14:18

AAW Kinky Sad and *Solo Sad.

DorisIsWaiting · 23/01/2012 15:45

oh kinky! my dd is on drugs for her liver it's horrible, particularly as in her case you can't 'see' anything's wrong iyswim.

fingers crossed you get a good review.

Sending you positive thoughts too

((and a few more unmnetty hugs))

This thread could really ruin my reputation!

DorisIsWaiting · 23/01/2012 15:46

ps the drugs she has aren't horrible, dd quite likes it Hmm It's just horrible her having problems iyswim!!

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/01/2012 16:50

Oh no! Solo and Kinky. Neither of you is having a good time of it, are you? So sorry. I wish I could do something for you bothSad

Solo - It probably is the Leylandii trees causing the problem - they are famous for it and their root are terrible things. We have them in the between our house and next door and have had problems with all sorts of cracks which I thought were due to the loft conversion we had done 7 yrs ago but you are making me wonder now. It sounds like we have similar sorts of cracks to you too. I assume that you aren't insured? What you want is DIY SOS to come and give you a make over!

I also sympathise with vandalism in the garden. We used to get that when we lived in Camberley. Front of the house on a nice enough street but the back used to back onto a rough estate and the kids used to climb on the roof of the garages belonging to the flats and jump into our garden. I frequently came home to a trashed garden. It completely saps your strength doesn't it when you don't know what you are going to come home to.Sad

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/01/2012 16:53

Kinky - I hope whatever is wrong with your daughter's liver, isn't as bad as they think and they can treat it. Keeping everything crossed for you.

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/01/2012 17:06

Solo - I don't know what local authority you live under but would the council or social services be able to provide a grant for the repair of your wiring? A quick google suggests that the grants might be the victim of the cutbacks but it might be worth having a word with your council because they might have different criteria. Does my memory serve me correctly that you get DLA? I did find this which I thought might be relevant (part 2 anyway). Having wiring that is so much in disrepair that you don't have lights in 2 rooms is quite serious.

babysbreath · 23/01/2012 17:28

Evening all

ppeatfruit I don't think I am over doing the eating in the evening. I would have thought giving up alcohol and nibbles for 19 days out of 21 would have made a big difference. I am trying to carry on and stay positive and not give up. I want to get a month under my belt! and see what happens with my weight then. Also, I have upped my water intake and I am drinking more herbal teas. Oh well.

Sorry to hear about some of you not having a good time at the mo.

Solo · 23/01/2012 22:02

Thank you all :( I shouldn't moan; poor Kinky has far more on her plate than me. I do try not to complain about my crap, but sometimes, sometimes I find myself feeling very alone and vulnerable...those are the times I could do with a wealthy man in my life.

I've been trying to think up ways to raise money for my friends disabled 10yo twins...perhaps I should do a sponsored moan!!! I could make a fortune!!

Can't recall who asked/suggested what, so I'll just try to answer...

. I don't know if I can get a grant for the electrics, but will try.
. Tree surgery student places thingy: the nearest is about 70 miles away and they only do tree care courses as opposed to cutting etc.
. Could be the trees, but last time, it was because the soak away hadn't been directed away from the building, but placed underneath the extension. How on earth it was missed by the council officials I don't know. Anyway, the excess water from rainfall had caused the earth around the pipework to move and had broken up the drains which had caused the movement in the building.

Kinky I hope things will look up for you soon.

Solo · 23/01/2012 22:05

Oh yes! I am insured BBB but if it's subsidence, it's £1000 excess...and being as my garden is in a mess, and various bits of the house look shabby, they'll probably say I have failed to maintain my property (true) and therefore not upheld my pledge to keep my property in good order etc and will probably not do anything for me. Lord I'm feeling grim.

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 24/01/2012 08:17

Sympathies for solo, I too have house trouble, a significant house fire before Christmas. Very stressful. I hope you can find a way to sort it.
kinky, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's health issues. I hope and pray for her recovery.

ppeatfruit · 24/01/2012 10:28

Morning all Smile babysbreath well done for carrying on !I meant eating a meal after 9 or 10 pm.
Pheonix That's the explanation for the name then.Smile Have you sorted out your fire?

Solo and Kinky my sympathies to you both Sad*

Doris* We're VERY proud that this is an atypical thread and we're always sending out unsmumnetty love!!!! And not much swearing Blush

Solo · 24/01/2012 13:26

Pheonix I am sorry for you. I almost wish my house had had your flames :( would solve a lot.

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 24/01/2012 13:40

It is empty and cleaned as best they can. Waiting for repairs. Fire damage was minimal, smoke damage to all rooms so need new walls & ceiling in kitchen and living room, new kitchen, all soft furnishing and redecorating throughout. Estimated to take three months. I'm in a rented house now. A tad ocd about pulling plugs from walls, twas a plugged in food processor that started it!
