The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONCIOUSLY
  4. STOP when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches so forget diets, they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

But! One thing I have noticed is that even when I am eating too much I am still very aware of my hunger and how full I am. I am just choosing to ignore it.....

SingleSoloShattersSparklyStars · 28/12/2011 12:28

Me too Orm (thought I was being smart!!).

AliBellandthe40jingles · 28/12/2011 14:57

Orm yes me too. I've been poorly as well with this viral cough/sore throat thing and it is just going on and on. I don't feel any better than I did before Christmas!

We are still at my parents, heading home this afternoon once we have crammed the toy mountain into the car! We weren't as restrained as we should have been with buying for the boys, and both our families have been very generous as usual so we are inundated! Big sort out required to make room for it all...

Yes Pauling really does work for those of you just starting. The key is listening to the CD for me, and one of my NY resolutions is to make the time to do the visualisations in the book even if it means something else slides - like the ironing!

stripygiraffe · 28/12/2011 21:20

Hi can I join?

I have been following PMK for about 10 days now. I can't feel any difference in my clothes but I am really enjoying the experience. I found Christmas pretty easy and I now truly think that 3 roast potatoes REALLY ARE as satisfying as the 6 14 I used to have as long as you eat slowly and enjoy them. I ate nowhere near the volume I usually would.

I am determined not to weigh myself until the 15 days is up.

I find eating slowly quite easy except with mushy food like pasta or risotto. It just won't last for 15 chews. Any tips?

SingleSoloShattersSparklyStars · 29/12/2011 01:09

Hi stripy and welcome!

20 chews is the minimum requirement if memory serves me. You just have to get into the habit and if it really is mush in your mouth, try counting in lieu of chews, so that you are eating/swallowing at the ideal intervals. Slower eating is key I think. Are you listening to the cd's? they are very helpful.

Do try to stick with us as we are very supportive on here and have lost quite an amount of weight so far!

ppeatfruit · 29/12/2011 08:18

Morning all Smile Nice to hear from solo, Orm Ali ( BTW I've got a brill exercise which cleared my viral cough!!) and especially newbies and newest newy stripey!!!

Ref. the slower eating; just putting down yr. bowl or plate or knives and forks if yr being 'civilised' Grin in between bites helps a lot and when you've finished and are not sure if you feel full just wait for a while and you get the fullness feeling eventually Grin

stripygiraffe · 29/12/2011 08:28

Good advice thanks. Okay so today's goal is to slow eating even more!
Off to have a banana as still peckish after breakfast.

Oh I also did some Davina toning last night and I actually WANTED to do! Wonders will never cease.

Can I ask the big losers Wink how long it has taken them? I have 42lbs to lose.

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 29/12/2011 09:09

stripy I need to lose about 56lbs (it hurts to type that) so I will be watching responses with interest.

ppeatfruit · 29/12/2011 12:57

Does 3 stone qualify for a lot? if you don't think so I will say that I could go on loosing (in fact Iam whether I want to or not!!) It took approx a year I s'pose but one of the brilliant things about this weight loss plan is that you can start and stop easily and combine it with other eating plans (I'm on the blood type as well) with no probs.

IMO the 1 rule of Paul Mckenna's which is not right for me is the "eat what you want' 'cos he doesn't take into account the addictiveness of high sugar and high salt food. (I was eating healthily before going on P.M. so I WANTED to continue IFYSWIM).

SingleSoloShattersSparklyStars · 29/12/2011 13:30

I lost two stones quite quickly, but gained 8lbs back earlier this year. Am determined to lose at least another 21lbs and hope to do this soon.

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 29/12/2011 15:03

I think 3st is a lot! It's what I've put on this year through comfort eating Xmas Blush.

SingleSoloShattersSparklyStars · 29/12/2011 17:36

Kinky I did the same thing. 3 stones in about 12 months...comfort eating through terrible grief, loneliness, no money, illness...all great reasons to comfort eat; I'm sure you have your own good reasons, but now it's time we stopped abusing ourselves with food and started living again :) we help one another on here and we even listen to problems if they are off topic, because it all contributes to our reasons for over eating and comfort eating.
When we listen to our bodies, it's amazing how little we actually need to eat and that does turn into our eating less because we want to eat less because we hear our stomach sighing that 'I'm full' sigh iyswim? if not, you soon will :)

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 29/12/2011 17:51

It's going to be will power for me. I always want to shove loads in, even when I'm not hungry. Eating when I'm hungry will be bigggest battle, after that recognising when to stop. I'm very much a crammer of food. You've done really well with your loss so far Single. My DD has cancer - diagnosed in January - so it's a rollercoaster. I've tried to diet on and off this year, but every time she gets ill/ends up in hospital, I seem to gain more. Eating the worry! She has another 18 months of treatment yet. I need to get a grip otherwise I will be absolutely huge by the time she's finished.

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 29/12/2011 17:53

(I am actually pretty huge already)

stripygiraffe · 29/12/2011 18:42

Hi Kinky sorry to hear about your DD and her health.
Re the willpower: you could try setting yourself small goals because I found it starts to become habit quite quickly. I am feeling enormously empowered by the feeling I get when I stop when full or don't nibble something when I'm not hungry.

To the long termers on the thread - I have found today that I am stopping when full (I think - still getting used to the feeling) but I find I am hungry again about an hour later. Did you get this? Is it normal?
Btw I had mashed potato at lunch and boy did I chew it!!

AliBellandthe40jingles · 29/12/2011 19:12

stripy - yes that is normal. What I have found is that you get into a rhythm after a few days.

Kinky - really sorry to hear about your daughter :( You and she will be in my prayers.

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 29/12/2011 19:56

Thanks both of you. It has been a shitty year.

BigBaubledBertha · 29/12/2011 21:56

Hi everybody.

Just checking in to say I am still here and not doing too badly but then I never do when I am eating meals - I never eat until I am stuffed. Christmas lunch is just a nice roast after all and I don't eat huge amounts (been to see the in-laws again - still gobsmacked by the amounts they eat. Both families have a dog though - maybe that is the key!). It is the extra bits in the evening that are the killer and as usual there are too many of those this time of year.

When I get a spare moment and some head space from boys and their toys I will download the CD onto my new phone and be ready to listen to that more, with an early night thrown in to do it!!

Welcome to our newbies although I do have a bone to pick with whoever was the first of you to say how much they have to lose in pounds. I worked mine out and it was Xmas ShockXmas Shock. I think I'll stick to the stones. At least it is in single figures!

Kinky - sorry to hear about your DD. It must have been a tough year for all the family. I hope you manage to find some headspace to PMcK as I am sure you will feel better for it.

Oh and I agree with ppeat about the eating what you want rule - I have said many times that it my downfall and so I can't follow that one to the letter as I would probably live off chocolate and crisps. It is not the way obviously. You have to weigh up the options for a range of things you might want (it isn't often only one thing and nothing else will do) and then chose the healthiest option, or at least not always chose the unhealtiest option! I have been trying to work on the principles on what a naturally thin person would do, bearing in mind that very few people are naturally thin whilst living off a diet of junk. On that basis, nothing is forbidden but nothing is eaten to excess, especially things with no nutritional value.

Just got to get New Year out of the way and then I can really think about what I am doing.

SingleSoloShattersSparklyStars · 29/12/2011 23:41

Kinky I too am sorry for your Dd's health :( and offer prayers for her strength and recovery...yours too, I'm certain you could use some strength .

I have to say that for the short time that I ate what I wanted and drank water ~ neither of which I do very often, I started to lose weight again. Strange but true! I do wish I was in a position to buy some of those things to munch on again. Water though, is a definite positive.

I weighed in this afternoon and found I'd lost 1 3/4lbs with clothes on, so probably 2lbs naked...I could be on my way ladies!!

ppeatfruit · 30/12/2011 08:39

Kinky that 's awful Sad yes I agree with the others about sending you and yr DD strength to cope and better health in the new year.

stripey Ref. the hunger after half an hour to an hour; I have found that a green and mint tea and a glass of water is a good way to manage that odd hunger. Of course I NATURALLY feel hungry sooner than if I've shoved in too much and overridden my normal full signals. Usually I get hungry after 2 to 3 hours. Then you HAVE to eat!!!

Solo Obviously it works for you. It's good to hear you so positive Smile. Congrats!!!

AliBellandthe40jingles · 30/12/2011 11:40

Solo that sounds positive!

I haven't been properly hungry for about a week I don't think. Really need to address that today! I've had toast for breakfast but now I'm not going to have anything else until I am really starving.
And no sugar, because it makes me crave more sugar (well just more really!).

My new earphones arrived just now, proper noise excluding ones, so that I can listen to the CDs in bed and not be distracted from my trance by DH snoring and DS2 snuffling and snorting Grin

stripygiraffe · 30/12/2011 13:06

My friend weighed me today (NHS scales) and I've lost 4lbs in 14days OVER CHRISTMAS! Pretty chuffed with that Grin

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 30/12/2011 13:10

I'm still hanging around waiting for my book to turn up and eating cheese and crackers...

I'm currently at my Mum's, which is the place that food comes to die. It's everywhere, even in the attic. She likes to love us with biscuits.

Well done stripy that is really impressive!

SingleSoloShattersSparklyStars · 30/12/2011 13:22

That is very impressive stripy well done and keep it up!

Kinky chew 20gtimes each mouthful and think about what's in yourmouth; the tastes, textures etc. It will change your thinking about food. Totally changed my feelings about chocolate.

AliBellandthe40jingles · 30/12/2011 13:45

stripy that is amazing! Well done!
