Hello everyone,

I know there are a lot of shred-heads on here already, but many of the current threads are full of people well into the programme. I just started the 30 Day Shred today. I'm 5'11", 258lbs (18st 6lbs Blush) and in dire need of getting fit, strengthening my core and losing some weight.

Has anyone else recently started, or are planning to?

I did L1D3 today. Feeling a bit sore in my calves and tummy! It's not too bad tho. I remember the first time I tried it last year I could hardly walk down the stairs! I wasn't very good at the butt kicks today.

I think my weights are also a bit heavier than they're supposed to be! I had a set of them but for some reason can only find the biggest ones. No idea how much they weigh but they are hard work!

moosemama · 04/10/2011 21:31

Well done TurkeyBurgerThing! Smile

I think most people use between 3lb and 5lb weights. I use 3lb for most of the exercises, but started using 5lbs for some of them since a few days before I finished level 2.

I prefer to use lower weights for the majority though, as I don't want to end up with big muscles - just better defnition or rather some definition, as opposed to none when I started out! Blush Grin

Thanks moosemama it's nice to see that dome patents appreciate what we do :) the funding change this year combined with a new head teacher has completely messed things up! The children were funded through ESAP rather than statemented as the ed psych doesn't visit very often and older children took priority Hmm. One of the children needs full time one to one support as she's a danger to herself and possibly, indirectly, others but unfortunately has only me to fight for her due to issues at home ( on cp register). It's very frustrating to say the least!

moosemama · 04/10/2011 22:16

olibeansmummy, it sounds really tough. They are very lucky to have you.

nicnacinoonoo · 05/10/2011 07:43

Hi, can i join you? I have done 4 days of level 1 so far. I've never tried any kind of work out dvd before so I am going to do my very best with this one. Can't do all the push ups or side lunge with weights yet though, they really kill my arms and i end up having to stop for a couple then try again, although it's been getting better.
When you talk about the weights do you mean each weight weighs that or altogether? Mine are 3lbs each, I think I should have maybe started out smaller so i could complete it all, but since I'm getting better already anyway I'm going to stick to these now.
Going to do day 5 after the school run.

moosemama · 05/10/2011 09:56

Hello nicnacinoonoo

Those side lunges with a shoulder raise and my dh's absolute nemesis - he loathes them with a vengeance!

When we talk weights, we are talking about individual weight weight, iyswim. So 3lb weights would weigh 6lb when lifted together.

Overtiredmum · 05/10/2011 17:26

L2 D7 today, and for some weird reason, I really enjoyed it today. So much so, once I finished I sat through and watched Level 3 whilst eating brekkie with DD, and I have to say, yep looks hard but actually looking forward to starting it, which will hopefully be Monday.

Seem to have renewed motivation, especially since my DH has now said he is noticing a change in my bodyshape, especially my arms and shoulders and my bum, although still not really noticed a massive difference around my waist, definitely looser but am coming up for mid-cycle at the moment, and my tummy can bloat just as much when I'm ovulating as when I'm TOTM. So we'll see.

My big motivation is our halloween party, which we're really looking forward to, in 24 days. I'm wearing a long black dress, which was clingy in all the wrong places the last time I wore it. Also treated myself last night to a long black curly wig, which has one or two red "highlights" running through, and also some long thick flase eyelashes, both from Ebay, so going for a sexy witch. I'll be seeing some friends we haven't seen since last Chrimbo, so hoping they'll see a difference.

moosemama · 05/10/2011 17:44

Evening Overtired.

Its lovely to hear you all fired up and keen to get onto the next level.

Your party sounds like fun and you are going to look fantastic in your outfit. Dh had a zombie party at a gin parlour for his 40th back in February. I went as 'Little Dead Riding Hood', but was really unhappy with the way I looked and spent most of the night hiding. Am planning to find something really special for our anniversary party next July and hoping I will have met, if not exceeded my overall weightloss goal by then.

So, I was an idiot today. I decided to try doing a level 1 as a warm up for level 3. Well yes, I was definitely warm and my muscles were nice and lose - but I was exhausted! Still am actually and I did it between 1.45 and 2.45 pm. Blush

Won't be trying that again in a hurry, but am still quietly chuffed that I managed to get through it, even if it was in a very unattractive huffy, puffy, sweaty, red-faced manner! Grin

Overtiredmum · 05/10/2011 19:53

Wow, well done, although am thinking you are maybe slightly crazy!! Grin

moosemama · 05/10/2011 20:06

I think you might be on to something there! Grin

olibeansmummy · 05/10/2011 21:06

Day 3 done :) I'm feeling it now, but in a good way iyswim. Dh sat laughing at me eating cheese and biscuits, arse!! Lol he even recorded me and threatened to put it on facebook Angry although I was secretly pleased with how good my press ups looked lol.

moosemama · 05/10/2011 21:43

Ignore him olibeansmummy, he'll be laughing on the other side of his face when you are a toned goddess and he has a big ol' cheesy jelly belly! Grin

nicnacinoonoo · 06/10/2011 08:03

Hi all, I did 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening last night as I go out most of the day on Thursdays with the mums from school, we do a lot of walking though so hopefully it wont make much difference, and if I'm not too tired this evening I will do it again just to make sure I'm staying on track. It's day 6 of level 1 for me today. I started on the 1st so it's easy for me to remember. Grin

Still couldn't do all the push ups but i nearly did this time. For the side lunges I gave up one weight and just held 1 with both hands so I at least managed them all this time, although it was still quite difficult even with half the amount of weight. Do you think it's better for me to do that and manage to do them all than have both weights and have to keep stopping?

I too have a halloween party I'm hoping to see the difference by overtired although mine is a long red dress and wig with the big eyelashes etc and some devil horns.

I put 2lbs back on after a few days of starting shred (I'd been dieting for 2 weeks before it and had lost 7lbs) but one of them was gone again this morning thankfully. I think I read earlier in the thread that that happened to you too moosemama, did it stay off once you lost it again?

moosemama · 06/10/2011 14:38

nicnacinoonoo, that's what I did with some of the tougher exercises in level 2 to begin with. I lowered the weights I was using and just tried to keep up the reps until I felt strong enough to do it with the higher weights. At one point I used dd's 1.5lb weights for the chair squats with v raises and after a couple of days of that I was ready to go back to my 3lb weights.

My weight did go up and then plateaued when I started shredding. It took a couple of weeks to start dropping again iirc, but its stayed off and slowly carried on down since then.

Overtiredmum · 06/10/2011 17:57

Well done ladies, all going well!

L2 D8, and again really enjoyed it. Don't usually shred on a Friday because thats my busy day but am trying to find a way of slipping one in if I can and will shred both days at the weekend, and then start L3 on Monday.

My legs are aching today Angry

I need to try and shred as much as I can between now and Halloween, for some stupid reason I just ordered myself a long black strapless maxi dress [stupid!!!!]. Had ordered a lovely wig, but don't think I'll be able to wear it because I only had it on for 5 minutes today and my clothes and hair are full of static, so I will be trying to stay at my desk as much as possible tonight! ha ha

On the plus side, when I got out of bed this morning, my DH asked where my tummy had gone Grin

moosemama · 06/10/2011 18:15

Well, its a good job I did two shreds yesterday, because I haven't had a chance today.

Had my neurology appointment this morning (being sent for an MRI of my brain neck and spine next month ) took Mum to take some clothes back to the shops, then spent from 3.30 until five minutes ago doing a major spring clean on the boys' bedroom. OMG the mess and dust two small boys can create in a relatively short space of time is frankly gobsmacking! Why is it they have to keep hold of every bit of plastic tat and junk that passes their way, but that its never dear enough to their hearts for them to actually look after it and keep it tidy? Angry

Am feeling very happy now its all ship shape, but blimey, I feel like I've done a double shred again - my poor back!

Overtiredmum · 06/10/2011 18:28

Given the choice think I would probably have done a shred rather than clean my DCs bedroom - just close the door and walk away Grin

olibeansmummy · 06/10/2011 18:40

Good luck for your brain scan hun x x

moosemama · 06/10/2011 19:30

Grin I normally select the 'shut the door' option, but they have friends coming to play tomorrow and not only would I die of shame if anyone else saw the state of their room, I have a feeling they would have been teased at school about it. Yes, it was that bad! Blush

Thanks olibeansmummy. I've had a brain MRI once before, but I'm claustrophobic, so I absolutely hate them. I was hoping the neurologist would say I didn't need one this time. Hmm

olibeansmummy · 07/10/2011 06:04

Yeah the do look scary!!

Last night I did l1d4 and when we got in bed dh gave me a cuddle and said ' you feel different' which I took as a compliment lol! So it looks like it's working yay :)

nicnacinoonoo · 07/10/2011 08:07

good luck moosemama

Well after doing 4 miles of walking and a shred in the evening I've still gained half a pound back on this morning. Grrr. I know I shouldn't weigh myself every day, but I can't seem to help myself.

At least I actually managed to get through all the push ups yesterday. Just!

Got my little boy's class assembly today, then play group with my little girl so will have to shred this afternoon when i get home. Then got my friend's two little girls after school for a sleepover.

moosemama · 07/10/2011 09:49

I am exactly the same nicnac. I weigh myself every morning and then am cross with myself afterwards for doing it. I do have Fridays as my official weigh in day though and that's the only day I actually record my weight, which helps.

With all that shredding and walking, your body will be grabbing hold of water in an attempt to repair your muscles. Make sure you are drinking LOTS of water, as it will really help.

Olibeans, its great when they notice a difference isn't it. Makes you feel like its worth sticking with it.

My dh noticed I had oblique muscles when he put his arm around me as we walked out of the hospital yesterday. He actually poked me in the side and said 'Oh my God that's solid muscle' 'Yes ... I have been working out a little bit y'know'. His reply? 'No, but I mean its proper, real solid muscle!' - er yes, what else would it be? Confused Grin

nicnacinoonoo · 07/10/2011 14:34

Drinking plenty has always been my downfall. Apart from Wine that is Blush
I have really been trying since starting to diet though, to stop me from over eating if nothing else. I find it goes straight through me though, I seem to be constantly on the loo but at least running up and down the stairs to the toilet is extra exercise Grin

Got through level 1 day 7 this afternoon. Found it a little harder today but not sure if it was because i was hungry as didn't want to eat right before doing it. Had a nice bowl of shreddies after it though. No pun intended, just really love shreddies! Grin

Overtiredmum · 07/10/2011 18:28

Had my planned day off today - think I needed it as my hips were really aching today! But in a sick sense, I actually missed doing it, but just had no change to get another shred in. Will do it tomorrow and Sunday and then start L3 on Monday.

On a plus side - my strapless maxi dress arrived today and I was dreading trying it on, but it fits and actually looks nice - my shoulders even look toned, although my boobs still bigger than I would hope, but its still looks good, so am pleased and still have 3 weeks of shredding before the party!

Busy weekend of decluttering, housework, washing, ironing...... the usual domestic bliss planned!

moosemama · 08/10/2011 14:06

Hi all,

I ended up missing yesterday as well, as I needed to do a major spring clean through the rest of the house. Certainly got a workout doing that anyway - even if it wasn't up to shred standards.

Anyway, have just done day 10 of level 3, but am intending to do another 10 days at this level before moving on, buying another JM dvd and starting over.

Found it very tough today, especially the push ups, but iirc I felt rather weak and pathetic on the first day of my period last month as well, so am putting it down to that.

Dh didn't help by threatening to video me as well. Hmm
