Whilst shopping with my super slim friend over the weekend I realised just how fat I feel - and getting on the scales provided proof. I've put on 2 stone - 1 stone of which has come on very recently ( think a month or two?!).
Other than looking lumpy and increasingly featureless, my legs are achy and I don't feel like I've woken up properly ever.
So, I'm going to start on the diet today. The plan is to eat lots of veg and fruits, lean meats, and limited carbs. I'm going to have 3 decent sized meals a day, and not snack unless I'm truely hungry.

I'm going to weigh myself and post on here every Tuesday. Anyone who wants to join in please do!

Starting weight; 11st 13.
(Target weight 10st so 1st 13lbs to lose)

Sorry, I've been busy. I de-registered ds2 from school this week (long story see SN board) so am now with him 24/7. Have started getting into old eating and drinking habits 'I've earnt this' etc.

Anyway in other news I weighed myself on Wednesday and I'd lost 2lbs, so:

Starting weight:12 stone
Last week: 10 stone 12lb
This week: 10 stone 10lb

Well done moose! Grin

Don't worry Lollipop, as moose said it's maintaining, and stop looking too far ahead, take one day/week at a time.

LollipopViolet · 23/07/2011 17:19

Thanks :)

Well, did my first Pump FX class today, think it may have been a step too far as my fitness isn't where it needs to be yet. Will stick with spinning, and try aerobics and legs, bums and tums, maybe pilates as well.

moosemama · 23/07/2011 18:23

Hi Lambskin, I have nearly de-reg'd ds1 so many times - tis a brave step. Hope it all works out for you.

Well done on the weight-loss front as well. 10-10, fan-bloody-tastic! Grin

I am have had an absolute pig of a week (as per SN Friday night thread) and then it got worse this morning when I was told the abcess the vets mis diagnosed in my dog on Thursday is actually cancer. Sad She's been in for an emergency op today and is in a terrible state with an open wound drain in her neck and lots of other stuff going on. Biopsy results will be in on Wednesday - all we can do until then is try to be positive and hope for the best. Sad

Eating has been hopeless today, haven't been home for most of it and couldn't get hold of any food, so ended up with 2 small squares of dark Green and Blacks and a packet of Walkers Ready Salted - and that's it so far! Better start again tomorrow. Hmm

LollipopViolet · 23/07/2011 20:13

Aww moose, our labrador had testicular cancer, the vet says it's all gone now but he's also got an underactive thyroid, so I kind of know how you feel there.

Hoping things improve for you.

moosemama · 23/07/2011 20:40

Thanks Lollipop, we lost our oldest dog 2 days before Christmas to oral cancer and if we can't save our girl this time, she will be the fourth dog we've lost to cancer since we got married 19 years ago. Sad We will have gone from three dogs to one in the space of seven months, which is really hard, because before I had dcs, dogs were my 'thing', I was studing canine behaviour and trained several nights a week.

The last dog is - thankfully - a bit, fit and very healthy lurcher lad, but he's never lived without another dog and howls if left alone. We're not really in a position to get another pup though, so I don't know how he'll cope on his own.

Lambskin · 24/07/2011 11:28

Sad So sorry moose. We lost our cat to oral cancer and it was bloody horrible, I do hope your dog beats this one. I love Lurchers, they've got such a gentle temperament.

I keep meaning to look in on the SN Friday night thread but something else always happens. Seems like a good way to let the week out as it were.

Having ds2 at home all the time is lovely actually. I mean, he drives me bonkers especially as at the moment he's obsessed with the cat, and with being a cat, but he feels more in control of his day and we've made a den he can escape to. Just need to make one for me now Grin

Having a barbq this evening and went for a pizza (me who doesn't do wheat or dairy) last night - YUM! Didn't have lunch to compensate. Is that ok? Know it's not great but had to keep the calories down somehow and I certainly wasn't going to hold back on the wine!

Build up your fitness gradually Lollipop, don't want you doing yourself an injury Smile

Hope this week goes better for you moose x

moosemama · 24/07/2011 12:34

Thanks Lambskin. She's a bit brighter today and is drinking on her own again, which is a good sign. Am just online buying wound dressing and cohesive bandages for her.

My lurcher boy is such a huge great scruffy softie (deerhound/saluki X greyound border collie) not a bad bone in his body, bless him. The only downside to him is the amount he sheds - honestly, I swear he should be bald judging by the amount of fur he drops every day. Hmm

Definitely come on the Friday night thread, its a great way to either let of steam or share positive news. There's a lot of wine, gin, chocolate and cake being passed around - but as its of the virtual variety its still safe when you're dieting. Grin

Having an den to escape to sounds like a wonderful idea - might have to borrow it actually! Grin

I stupidly weighed myself this morning and have gained 1lb 7oz. Sad I knew I would have done, having skipped loads of meals, eaten empty calories where and when I could and barely made 2/3rds of my calorie allowance most days this week. Just sent dh out to the supermarket with a big list of healthy foods for me. Now I'm stuck in the house nursing my girly I should at least be able to get my eating back on track. Managed porridge for brekkie this morning and have a big salad planned for lunch, so hopefully I should lose it again by the end of the week.

Enjoy your BBQ. Smile

madwomanintheattic · 25/07/2011 01:01

hello ladies - haven't been around much since we moved - our tinternet has been iffy and keeps dropping out, usually when i attempt to mn Hmm

anyway, have had loads of visitors and keep getting dragged out to restaurants Blush but am losing about a lb a week, so not too bad. am going to blitz with davina this week every day to try and kick start something a bit more convincing, but am heartened that i'm moving in the right direction even through the hols (our kids have been on school hols for three weeks already!) and obligatory ice cream eating. am going to cut the carbs again this week though - have been feeling v bloated.

can't post v regularly over the hols (visitors and kids all over the shop) but will try and pop in of a friday at the least. tried a few fridays but my posts don't seem to happen before my connection drops out (keeping my fingers crossed for this one...)

haven't got time to read whole thread, but hope i'll get a chance to catch up over the next few days - and apols for disappearing!

Lambskin · 25/07/2011 08:47

Hello madwoman! Glad to have you back and that you're ok - dragged to restaurants, poor you Grin Well done with your losses 1lb a week is perfect. We'll keep a comfy chair for you and some choccybiscuits-- ryvitas

Moose, you'll easily lose that weight when you get back on track this week - it's why I don't weigh myself at the weekend.
Had a fantastic BBQ. It was just dh, me and ds2 but we were cooking over our posh new fire pit, listening to Spanish guitar music and watching ds rolling around in his pop-up tent Grin

moosemama · 25/07/2011 13:57

Hello madwoman - losing a lb a week whilst eating out at restaurants is impressive, especially with all the stress of house moving on top. I think I'd be a chocolate munching roly poly in your shoes - I really need to find a new coping mechanism. Blush

Thanks Lambskin, I know it'll go again, its just so damned frustrating when I've not eating anything naughty for 36 days now, eschewed chip shop chips with the family, home made cupcakes and my favourite meal in my favourite restaurant, only to gain weight from not eating enough. Hmm Am properly back on track today - and the dog has perked right up - even wanting to play this morning as well, so between that and the glorious sunshine, things seem a whole lot brighter today.

Glad you had a nice BBQ. I always think the best kind are the ones where its just your family enjoying each others' company. I was looking up veggie BBQ recipes on the net last night. We always promise ourselves a nice BBQ on holiday, but never quite seem to get around to doing it, so I want to be prepared in advance this year, especially now the house has a lovely landscaped garden and patio overlooking the sea. We have one week of just us, then our oldest friend, his partner and her daughter are joining us - best of both worlds really. Have ordered some reduced fat halloumi and am going to make veggie and halloumi skewers with chilli and lime and a couple of different types of veggie burgers. We can't buy normal veggie burgers, because they always have wheat in them. Dragonfly are the exception and ds1 loves those, but I doubt we will be able to get hold of any in Ireland.

tinker316 · 25/07/2011 15:58

Hi all!!
I have not been good regarding food at all! Feeling rough as I've got the flu from DD Sad was getting up with her from 5am last week, so wasn't in the mood 2 shred!!
Now I've got it I feel absolute poo Sad so not sure how I will do this week. Think I have gained a few pounds, but not brave enough 2 step on the scales Blush
Everybody seems 2 b doing really well Smile

moosemama · 25/07/2011 16:18

Oh tinker, sleep deprivation, poorly children and weighloss don't go. Don't be too hard on yourself. Give yourself time to recover, catch up on some sleep and then redouble your effort. I bet you'll find the weight's falling off in no-time.

moosemama · 29/07/2011 09:48

Morning ladies - weigh-in day

Right at last count I'd gained 1lb 7oz - that was last Sunday. Weight has stubbornly stayed on and even gone up this week, despite me being really careful and really paying attention to what I was eating. Angry Was sure I wouldn't hit my target of 12st 1lbs this week as the day before yesterday I was still 13st 0lbs.

But, weighed-in this morning and ...

Starting weight 16/6: 14st 2lb
Weight 24/6: 13st 8lb
Weight 1/7: 13st 7lbs
Weight 2/7: 13st 5lbs
Weight 13/7: 13st 4lbs
Weight 14/7: 13st 1lb
Weight 21/7: 12st 13lbs
Weight 29/7: 12st 11lbs (and 6oz)

Overall weightloss to date: 18lbs 10oz!

Target for next Friday 12st 9lbs.

Ok, so strictly speaking I am 6oz off target - but after the couple of week's I've just had I thought I'd include the oz this time instead of rounding up.

Dog is doing a lot better, running around like a pup and has finished her antibiotics and anti-inflammatories - amazing recovery in just one week. Biopsy results weren't in at her follow-up though, so we're still waiting for them.

Dd (2.6) has been really poorly with tonsillitis this week. Temps up to 40 degrees and not eating or drinking. Fortunately, the fever broke yesterday and she's a lot better, but between nursing her and the dog, its been another fun filled week in the Moose household. Hmm

Hope everyone else has had a better week. Good luck for weigh-ins everyone. Smile

moosemama · 29/07/2011 09:49

That should read 'my target of 12st 11lbs' this week' not '12st 1lbs'.

Lambskin · 29/07/2011 12:04

Oh well done moose! Having such a hard week and still losing - I'm very impressed. It feels great getting into that next weight band doesn't it? So glad your dog's feeling so bouncy, that has to be a good sign. Good luck with the results, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

I had no sleep last night. Ds2 was up twice with nose bleeds, looked like there'd been a massacre! Had to change the bedding, pyjamas, clean the carpet - of course he just stood there dripping all over the landing instead of just turning right into the bathroom. Dh is away at the moment lucky sod.

Anyway, I'm exactly the same as last week 10 st 10 lbs 2oz but I'd had my breakfast, we went for a pizza and had a BBQ last weekend, and I'm in the throws of a particularly heavy period so not bad really. I seem to stay the same one week, then lose 2 lbs, then stay the same, repeat to fade ... which is pretty good and averages out at the 1 lb a week I'm aiming for.

Good luck everyone!

moosemama · 29/07/2011 12:19

Thank you Lambskin.

Just had a call from the vet as well - no cancer! Phew! What a relief! Its an unusual type of cellulitis, most likely caused by a foreign body like a splinter from a stick.

Sorry to hear about your ds's nose bleeds - ds1 suffers with them sometimes and he does the just standing there dripping thing as well.

Maintaining that weight sounds good, especially as you've had some yummy food this week and its that time of the month. I often seem to drop 2lbs half way through my period, so you could see a good loss this time next week. 1lb a week is great and really sustainable long term. Well done!

Lambskin · 29/07/2011 12:27

Wahey! Grin Great doggy news!

moosemama · 29/07/2011 12:30

Grin Thank you!

Lambskin · 02/08/2011 18:44

Blimey, what is it with us? We have a flurry around weigh day then nothing all week. I suppose everyone's just plugging away at it. I seem to have got into a pattern of going for it all week then letting it all hang out at the weekend . Seems to be working ok. Don't know if this is in spite of or because of, but hey, the only thing that keeps me going is knowing I'll be having a few wines on Friday and Saturday.

I have a party (all day and night!) to go to on Saturday and ds1's dad coming round for dinner on Friday (we're very mature about it), so I am trying to be particularly good this week. Still have a foot injury which makes doing cardio a bit more of a challenge than usual, but I am enjoying the fact that my Lycra workout gear is actually BAGGY! Grin

Hope everyone is having a good week and coping with the heat.

tinker316 · 02/08/2011 18:50

I was very naughty all weekend Blush
Had a Indian curry with the trimmings followed by a few Wink vinos
Then Sunday I ate just over half a large dominos pizza & couple of beers-oops!!
I always seem 2 slip up at weekends Sad
Just have to wait til Saturday morning to find out what the damage is!!

Lambskin · 03/08/2011 12:09

But are you good during the week though tinker? And is it effecting your weight loss? Because I actually think long term it's a good thing. You can't be on a diet for the whole of your life and we want to be slim forever don't we? I remember once, years ago, Darcy Bustle on the radio saying that you can have a curry on a Friday night if you eat sensibly the rest of the week and exercise.

I think we should stop berating ourselves and seeing the odd blow out as 'naughty', and instead think of it as balanced eating and enjoy life. So, well done you on your pig outs! Just don't do it most of the time! Grin

Thank you, my book will be out in the autumn Wink

tinker316 · 03/08/2011 17:30

Lol lambskin wise words Wink
I do tend to be very good during the week- just get knackered as the weekend arrives & can't be assed to cook Blush

As you say, a treat causes no harm & its something to look forward to!! Smile

Lambskin · 05/08/2011 12:16

Yay! At last! Grin Grin

I'm 10 stone 8 lbs exactly!!!

That means I am now a healthy weight. I am no longer overweight!! Grin

The best bit is, I can carry on like this forever. Eating healthily and not drinking alcohol during the week and being a bit more carefree at the weekends is doable I think. I don't feel like I'm on a diet but I am still watching the carbs.

New goal is 10 stone, which should take a couple of months, but I'll get there!

How's everyone else doing? Please don't leave me alone in here!

madwomanintheattic · 05/08/2011 20:58

well, bum, and grr. i'm back up to 11.12.
been eating more carbs again, but thought the exercise might counteract.

ok. less carbs was working, so that's the way i'll have to go. i have a visitor free 4 days until the next lot arrive. am job hunting, but not sure why as i haven't even found my cv, let alone updated it... seen a couple that look interesting though.

well done you, lambskin, that's brilliant news!

it's just school hols and visitors here, so i don't get the chance to get on and post... not leaving you alone intentionally! (and obviously was doing much better when i was posting daily )

will be about for the next few days and then disappear again. next visit will be stressful so will be fighting myself not to eat to compensate!

out for dinner tonight, but should be reasonably light and doable - and no booze involved for a change Grin (ah, that might not be helping...)

moosemama · 16/08/2011 12:04

Argh! Just typed a long post, then lost it. Hmm

WELL DONE LAMBSKIN! I dream of being back in the healthy weight category - still a long way off for me sadly.

Madwoman, don't stress you will get there - just tread water and try to maintain until the end of the summer holidays, then you can get back to things in earnest.

I am just back from my hols, hence my absence from the thread. Tried to stick to my diet as far as possible. Had promised myself a meal in my favourite restaurant, one roast dinner and a couple of glasses of wine over the two weeks. Unfortunately the holiday was really stressful, not one I'd like to repeat - and included diet sabotaging friends who are very anti-diet and made a point of eating all manner of goodies in front of me and eating out regularly. Hmm

Still, I stuck to my plan - other than actually eating out in my favourite restaurant twice instead of once, but both times had a mixed salad and a few of dd's chips but no dessert and three glasses of wine over the two weeks.

I was expecting to maintain or perhaps even gain 1-2lbs BUT I actually lost 2lbs and that annoying 6oz from my last weigh-in. So:

Starting weight 16/6: 14st 2lb
Weight 24/6: 13st 8lb
Weight 1/7: 13st 7lbs
Weight 2/7: 13st 5lbs
Weight 13/7: 13st 4lbs
Weight 14/7: 13st 1lb
Weight 21/7: 12st 13lbs
Weight 29/7: 12st 11lbs (and 6oz)
Weight 16/8: 12st 9lbs (weighed in Tues not Fri due to holidays)

Overall weightloss to date: 21lbs

Not setting a target for this week, as am starting halfway through, but my target for Friday 26th/8 is 12st 7lbs.

I really wanted to have dropped a full two stone by the time the boys go back to school, but that's not going to happen, as I'd need to lose 7lbs in 2 weeks 4 days. Might be doable by their second Friday back though, which isn't too bad.

Oh - should say, the dog is fighting fit again Smile and thanks to lots of beach walking with her, I am feeling so much fitter now as well, so dh and I are going to invest in the dreaded 30 day shred and try doing it together in the evenings. Grin I reckon we'll probably have to stick to just the warm up for the first few weeks, but I'm definitely up for giving it a try now.
