Welcome one, and welcome ALL to our 10th Thread, celebrating the long haul that has been central to our successful weight loss...

There is certainly lots more success to be enjoyed, so stay and weigh, there is always someone on hand for support or to give a kick up the backside as needed Grin We are good at motivating one another that's for sure!

Yes, it's supposed to be 10 days at level 1, 10 days at level 2 and 10 days at level 3. She does the 3-2-1 thing, which is 3 minutes of weights, 2 minutes of cardio (very hard work!) 1 minute of abs

The good thing is it's only 20 minutes long! Expect to ache the first few times you do it.

glad you are feeling a bit better Ghost. Have you got any throat spray?

TheGhostNotMe · 05/09/2011 21:03

Eeek, so nervous about starting it!! Especially if its hard work!

Nope, no throat spray. GP doesnt believe in it and wouldnt prescribe it. And I am poor poor poor so rely on my exemption certificate so get everything on prescription!!

right, am downing my Tia Maria (which even that hurts to swallow!!) and heading to bed, tomorrow is the start of my working week!

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/09/2011 21:52

yes the shred is hard work - but i really cant see how you can lose 20lbs in 30day Hmm

Smalline · 06/09/2011 06:51

Have shredded (day 2 level 1) and am ready for the day

Glad you are feeling better Ghost

prettybird · 06/09/2011 08:26

The losing 20lb I think is if you also follow her diet - which is available in a separate book and/or if you subscribe on-line so is another money-making scheme

It's apparently very American and uses of a lot of "foods" that you can't get easily over here - like some form of protein supplement.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2011 08:28

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm and there was me thinking (hoping) doing the shred every day would make me lose 20lbs lol

have to say im in slight pain today after my bells yesterday :(

GettinTrimmer · 06/09/2011 09:36

Good luck with the shred to all who are doing it today. Just done day 4. On food focus I worked out it burns about 148 calories, feels like it should be more!

Blondes with your gym and kettle bells have you skipped level 1?

prettybird · 06/09/2011 10:30

I know that tihs is not really do with our slimming efforts, but we have shared good times and bad: My dad sent me this, which a friend had emailed to him.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I enquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognised him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought,

'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message.. This one I thought I could share with you.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did..

'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.'

This had me in tears. My mum doesn't have Alzheimer's in that she still remembers us, but the damage to her brain means that the essence of her has been lost. She doesn't care that we visit (or not) - but we still do. And we will continue to do so.

GettinTrimmer · 06/09/2011 11:34

Thank you for posting this Pretty. I cried.

Best wishes to all of you. Does your mum still enjoy anything she used to do?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2011 12:14

thats lovely prettybird ((hugs))

and trimmer no i do level 1 - 2 would prob kill me

bebejones · 06/09/2011 12:27

Pretty that is so lovely! ((hugs))

Level 1 of the shred has nearly killed me!!! Dread to think how I would have felt trying to do it when I was 15stone!

prettybird · 06/09/2011 16:24

No, mum doesn't enjoy anything she used to do. She doesn't read books (former English teacher), read magazines (former Good Housekeeping subscriber), embroider (we have large tablecothes with Danish cross-stitich embroidery flowers), knit (even after the accident, she knitted an Arran throw and my birthday present last year, was a cable scarf - the last thing she knitted), sing (she used to be in the Scottish Philarmonic Singers), listen to music (Classic FM or Radio 3 was always on in the house - dad got her a clock radio for her room but she refuses to put it on), or take pleasure and pride in her appearance (my friends always commented on my glamorous mum, who was always fashionable)........ :(:( She used to make her own clothes (she made my wedding dress) when she wasn't checking out Jaeger and Susan Wool/Episode/LK Bennet.

Today she barely spoke to me (and when she does, it is barely decipherable) - except to ask for the music to be turned down and complained that it was always on (to be fair on her, the music in the lounge was sort of country western/old 40s stuff - nothing she would ever have liked) - but that was actually a positive thing as she was expressing a preference. However, I couldn't get her to say what she would like them to put on in the lounge. The rest of the time she sat there with her eyes shut and wouldn't talk to me.

prettybird · 06/09/2011 16:26

Bebe - it is actually quite reassuring how quickly you get used to the pain it gets a bit easier. See how you feel after 10 days, you might be ready for Level 2 then. IMHO, Level 2 is the worst one - but everyone has different weaknesses.

TheGhostNotMe · 06/09/2011 19:18

Sad My Grandad is in advanced stages of alzeimers (sp). He now doesnt remember my Nan's name, but has some awareness that she is his wife. He is going into respite for a fortnight in October, as shes going abroad for a wedding, and shes asked me to go visit him as often as I can. I am not sure what to take, or talk about, and know it is going to break my heart to spend so much time with this big man I love and who was a massive part of my childhood, yet is a shadow of his former self.

Diet wise is going well. New job is fab for it. No canteen or cash tuck machines - so if I take in just good stuff I cant pick. Staff room is far enough away not to tempt me either. Today had tea and porridge for breakfast, cheese salad with nuts for lunch, apple and a small penguin biscuit for snack, and fish with wholewheat noodles and veg for dinner. Portion sizes are smaller too. Lunch tomorrow is noodles from tonight, with cucumber, peppers, seeds and low fat mayo with small amount of cheese.

Throat still hurts. Cant exercise at the moment as still under the weather. But know this last week has had an effect - am sitting in trousers I couldnt do up last week.

GettinTrimmer · 07/09/2011 15:50

Sorry to hear about your Grandad Ghost Sad My FIL towards the end suffered from dementia, he still knew who we all were, but got very confused.

Well, I did day 5 of the shred, and hoping that I have lost weight - I wi on Saturday and tomorrow and Friday I am stepping up the exercise.

smalline I meant to ask, how is new job going?

TheGhostNotMe · 07/09/2011 17:03

My Shred DVD came Grin

Wondering whether to attempt it tonight........ Might stick it on and see how I go, and if its too much stop, but feeling a lot better.

I know this last week of being on it has helped - am wearing trousers 2 days in a row that are new and I couldnt wear a fortnight ago. Hoping the exercise will double the effort!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/09/2011 23:02

Hey lovelies. Our thread is sad at the mo. Sorry about your mum Pretty and your grandad whateveryouarecallediforget It is awful. I have been there too and it was shit. Old age. Blimey.

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 08/09/2011 07:47

Ghost How did the shred go? And you are doing brilliantly with looser trousers Smile

I lapsed last night, had a large baileys, bag of crisps then cheese and biscuits Blush I felt a bit stressed, nothing dreadful as such, ds in a paddy and swore. Had to bite tongue as dh went a bit OTT with them.

Today, I am doing the shred, will be day 6, then either going for a run (not going if it rains) OR follow the shred with Davina fit. I have to sort out damage from last night Blush I really want to lose the 1.5 stone again that I lost

TheGhostNotMe · 08/09/2011 18:10

I didnt manage shred. I'm not going to manage it today either - work is just exhausting. I'm sure once I get the hang of it and have been there longer than a week I will be ok, but I just cant deal with anything at the moment.

However, it has been a week since my last Bad Food. A week since my last Cigarette. I am back in my size 14 (fairly easily) now, and definitely back on it. Well, just had a 99 from the van man, but I went without the flake and it was a treat for a very bad day.

Have friends over for dinner tomorrow. Was worried for food, but have planned meditterean turkey with rice (and garlic bread for them not on diet) with fresh cream chocolate sponge and raspberry sorbet for afters (thought I could have a slither of cake or just the sorbet)

Trimmer, you will lose the weight again. I was down to 11st 5 and a good size 12. I dont know how much I went up to but I know my size 14s were too tight. So I reckon a good stone and a half too. I am giving myself another week or two without weighing in, and then will see where I am.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/09/2011 06:47

Hey well done Trim! REally good news.

I have restarted low carbing again and have put myself on a thread where people are taking it very professionally which is helping me. I've even ordered these sticks, so I can wee on them to check when I achieve the Holy Grail of Ketosis. I'm not there yet, but because of the encouragement on the thread I am being more brutal than before.

I don't seem to have so much energy though at the mo as a consequence, but am doing Day 5 of the Shred this morning. I haven't run since NY but I am going to relaunch that this week.

I have spent all week chasing my tail work wise, and it was full on for the children too. DD now rows 6 times a week, that is either water based (3 times) or gym based with ergos/weights etc and that is going to take some getting used to for us all. She can't eat or sleep enough at the moment though! I need to think more about what she needs to eat. And DS is much happier on holidays so he has needed a lot of jollying! And in all of this chasing tail lark, DH is away more or less until the end of September, currently Denver

It's all good really though!
