You lot! Over 'ere! Sorry for taking liberties with the previous thread: I am no good with suspense, and it was like looking at a gigantic throbbing pustulating boil and not being able to squeeze it

haughty it's a fun weightloss thread, weighing in on Wednesday (day of doom)

bloof know what you are talking about. I can't just eat one choc etc, I think our body gets addicted to the sugar hit. It's instant energy as well. my name is cheese and I'm addicted to puddings!

duckymum · 19/05/2011 21:31

Absolutely!
All those times I make a nearly full packet of biscuits disappear - once I know the packet is there it is like money burning a hole in my pocket, I can't rest easy with it in the house, so the only answer is never to buy them.

mandalee · 19/05/2011 22:33

You bet, Bloof, to both the psychological need for a 'treat' and the sugar rush reaction.

Luckily (?), I tend to get really nasty blood sugar dips (ie shaking, sweating, sometimes passing out) after I eat really sugary stuff, for example, pancakes with syrup - so that helps with the moderation. But I have been known to utterly lose control when faced with a partial birthday cake. Grin

I had the epiphany about the fruit while on an all-inclusive holiday, of all things - I got home and realised I had, to my astonishment, only put on 200 grams in the week, mostly because it was so bloody EASY to eat the yummy pre-cut tropical fruit, and the salad bar was right there and waiting for me. Well, that and all their desserts were pre-packaged and utterly not worth the stomach space, let alone calories. But I did have ice cream sometimes, and wine with meals, and stayed almost the same anyway (and believe me, this does NOT happen to me!) I guess for me it has a lot to do with convenience, esp when I'm hungry and low-blood-sugary and need something NOW dammit...

off to bed now, with a lovely feeling of victory for having not even TASTED the white chocolate biscuits. Wink Sleep tight all!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/05/2011 07:47

mandalee agree about the hols, last time we went I had fruit and cereal and didn't gain a lb. We were skiing though so using piles of energy and drinking lashings of beer

gawd I'm tired today. Anyway, I will eat:
b: melon and yog
l: prawn and bulgar wheat salad
d: sweet chilli pork from Sw mag with stirfry veg

going to a partay tomorrow and have been asked to make a pavlova. I can make them in my sleep, have made them for years. Won't be able to eat it though, sob sob!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/05/2011 07:47

Oh and exercise will be several laps around the park with the buggy.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/05/2011 07:49

Just realised no HEB planned - will add branflakes to my fruit. God I am tired to forget about that!

AlpinePony · 20/05/2011 08:31

mandalee This is what the Susie Orbach book is about - basically you take along a buffet in your packed lunch. Spag bog + sushi + sarnies + haribo + whizz-cakes (bloofer can explain ingredients) + fruit salad + pickle & chalk - and then, if it's all in front of you then you will take what you want rather than shovel stuff in. nothing is banned from your fridge. If you want 6 tubs of B&J in there then you can.

I should currently be limbering up for body pump but can't be arsed, got period and feel light headed. Am going to cycle to shops to buy batteries for my Shag Dictator though.

BlooferLady · 20/05/2011 08:31

Oh Cheesy you do sound tired! Don't overdo it old bean :)

The sweet chilli pork sounds yummo - is it in the latest SW mag?

Well, today I am going to (again) be absurdly saintly and frugal by way of preparation for the weekend away. Talking of, slightly worried about what we're all supposed to be doing for food, as no-one has mentioned it & I can't afford to eat out for every meal for 2 days, either in calories or pounds & pence Confused. I think I shall make sure I take some fruit & wholesome stuff to fill up on.

ANYWAY. Food today (green)

B - stewed apple & honey & greek yogurt (HEB and 2 syns in honey)
L & D - I'll make a big pot of courgette, pea and butterbean stew and have through the day with crumbled feta on top (HEA).

I haven't been getting much exercise of late. ironically, in the weeks I was going to the gym every day I didn't get any smaller, and in the weeks I'm dieting strictly but getting no exercise I'm notably more trim (it has started to be remarked upon, hoopla!). However I've got to go to a shop about 1.5-2 miles away so I'll amble up there. Not zackly a 4k run but better than nothing!

Yo Pony, gissa whizz-cake you speed-tart Grin

I must get my hands on this Orbach book. Sounds like it's about re-programming yourself away from the whole punishment/reward thing where food is concerned. Sorry about the bastard droid Pone.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/05/2011 09:19

bloof yep it is in the may/June issue. I always have enjoyed cooking (prob too much) so I'm trying to do new recipes at least 3x week to keep me motivated. Seems to be working. Can you suggest that everyone brings some food and you can take SW bits. I hate eating out all the time, it's too expensive and I like to save all the calories for spesh occassions. I am tired, not sure why. I was only up for an hour in the night. Coffee is my saviour!

alpine that sounds better than body pump! Enjoy. Might have to get my paws on that book.

Bought a new top yesterday in a 16. Looks fab (in my deluded brain)! Will put it on today to make myself feel better!

obrigada · 20/05/2011 10:24

Morning all:) well got back on track yesterday after my overindulgence on sausage rolls yesterday morning, even made some soup last night, did find I had more energy yesterday evening which is also one of the main reasons I want to lose weight.

mandalee · 20/05/2011 10:40

Shag Dictator? That takes batteries?

There's also a guy named Rick Kausman who wrote a book called "If Not Dieting, Then What?" which is meant to be v good. Haven't gotten hands on a copy yet though, it's apparently popular in Australia (where I lived till last year) but not so much over here... I do like the idea about de-emotionalising is that a word? food though. Suspect this is my biggest problem.

Friday, ladies! 3 cheers for the weekend...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 20/05/2011 10:44

Ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod!! I weighed myself this morning - something I have been too ashamed and afraid to do for ages, and I am over 21 stone. My exercise today will mainly be beating myself up for this.

Oh - and ds2 ate all the weetabix, and I really wanted weetabix for breakfast.

OK - rant over. I know what I weigh now, and I am going to modify my diet, eat more carefully and try to lose some of this weight. I am.

mandalee · 20/05/2011 11:05

SDTG: Good. On. You.

It takes mucho courage to get on that instrument of torture little machine. But now you've done it, and the numbers are gonna get better. It does help you succeed - really.

And don't you dare beat yourself up. You've done great today already. Smile

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/05/2011 11:19

stdg well done for getting on the scales. Don't underestimate what a huge step you have made, it's tough acknowledging your starting weight. But now you can do something about it. You can now say to yourself I will not let myself get any bigger, and try to lose a wee bit at a time! Pls dint beat yourself up - you are quite clearly a lovely person.

BlooferLady · 20/05/2011 11:26

STAYING!!!! Well done! ALL of us had to absolutely steel ourselves like we were awaiting the guillotine before we got the damned things, so know what an achievement that is! And yes, no more beating yourself up: the bad bit's over - it's all uphill (well: downhill Grin) from here.

Oh I am glad. Also - i know you said in a post a while back that you suspected you were about that weight, so hurrah for that - because so often we think we're a certain weigh, hop on the old scales, and damned if there's not an extra two stone in there somewhere. This is the beginning. And I am awaiting news of your Pilates DVDs and how they're doing and whether I should get one Grin

obrigada · 20/05/2011 11:40

Congrats on getting on the scales SDTG, now you have a starting point and as Bloofer says it's all downhill from here:) How often do you plan on weighing yourself?

weblette · 20/05/2011 11:59

Well done SDTG, that's the hardest bit out of the way :)

Bloof - as a very annoying supermarket ad goes.. every little helps Grin

Very virtuous obrigada - what soup did you make??

Cheese - I bet the top looks gorgeous!

Mandalee - I hear ya, hooray for the weekend!!

Got to keep it steady today as I've our Yr6 parents meal out tonight. The food should be fine, we're going to an Ask pizza/pasta place, my downfall is likely to be the 'grape juice'...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 20/05/2011 12:11

You are all so nice to me that I have tears in my eyes. Stop it, you lovely people!!

I will weigh myself on wednesday, with the rest of you, obrigada.

Tesco have delivered next week's food, and I have tried to plan meals that will be reasonably healthy. I'm making fish pie one day, and I have bought sweet potatoes to put in the mash, to make it a bit lighter, and I'm going to use milk in the potato instead of lots of butter.

The sweet chilli pork sounds nice - where can I find these recipes, please? I'm not actually doing slimming world, but if the recipes are nice, I might get the magazine from time to time.

obrigada · 20/05/2011 12:13

Hi Weblette, made carrot and coriander soup, wouldn't say I was virtuous, more desparate, was very disappointed when I only lost half a pound on Tuesday night despite having put the effort in, so now I am doing my best to snack on superfree food in between meals in the hope that it shifts something Hmm . . also after scoffing eating 3 sausage rolls yesterday, I needed to put in extra effort:)

Muser · 20/05/2011 12:30

Is this a sort of SW thread? I see some refs to it. I am feeling waaay too lardy at the moment and was thinking of returning to the online SW way in an effort to stop looking 7 months pregnant. I could do with somewhere to keep kicking me up the arse when I flag. How is this thread for arse kicking?

mandalee · 20/05/2011 12:33

Hey SDTG, since you get your groceries delivered anyway, have you ever thought about doing Tesco Diets?

I've been doing it for a few months, and it's really flexible (lots of plans to choose from, and you can switch plans if you want to) and convenient (especially if grabbing packets of biscuits impulse shopping is your downfall, like it is mine! Speaking of which, WHO lets the Tesco bakery dept bake delicious-smelling bread in the middle of the day when I'm feeling like a starved mink? But I digress...)

Anyway, I think they have some special offer thingymajig at the moment where we can both get a month free, if you want to give it a try. Lemme know! Wink

AlpinePony · 20/05/2011 12:34

muser We're a bit nice to each other Blush - you know, all supportive and stuff.

STDG The highest reading my scales ever gave me were 20 10 - I was probably more, but that's the most I got on at.

My boyfriend is not happy with me getting the band tightened given the amount of times I through up as it is. I am not happy weighing more than I want to, bulging out of my "thin" wardrobe (although I'd like to be able to get in to them enough to bulge iyswim) and putting on weight even when eating very little.

c4ro Best of luck for the drive this weekend! :)

mandalee · 20/05/2011 12:34

Ohhhh, Muser, are YOU in the right place... Grin

AlpinePony · 20/05/2011 12:36

I meant to say STDG - that no matter what the number on the scales says, it does not reflect your kindness, ability to love or sharp wit. Repeat as necessary!
