You lot! Over 'ere! Sorry for taking liberties with the previous thread: I am no good with suspense, and it was like looking at a gigantic throbbing pustulating boil and not being able to squeeze it

OP posts:
grinningbee · 20/06/2011 07:51

Nope, don't live in a tent. Just unfortunate! I think the ant must have hitched a lift on someones shoe. Nasty bitey bugger. I am impressed at 3 wasps though Cheese Hope your dd is feeling a little better. If she won't drink much, have you tried ice lollies?

I have managed to resist anything naughty, although it is getting harder. I think I may have to allow myself a treat soon or I may lose the plot! I have had no chocolate, wine, biscuits or cake in 3 weeks now. Dh offered me a marshmallow while we were driving yesterday, and I told him I wanted to get to the next stone more than I wanted to put the marshmallow in my mouth... but did an inwward wibble.

The food for today will be:

Weetabix
Toast with either cheese triangles or beans
Shepherds lentil pie (from an sw magazine)
Grapes, bananas and apples as snacks

Tomorrow is my DoD and if I'm not in the 14st somethings I shall be VERY disappointed!

Muser · 20/06/2011 08:05

Hope your little girl is better today Cheese, must be worrying.

Excellent work on the resisting treats there grinning, I wish I had that willpower!

I have been feeling sick and run down most of this week and am trying to struggle on with the weight loss. Finding it hard as I just seem to be hungry all the time. Going to try extra hard these last two days.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 08:33

Things better here, we have had a very wet nappy! Phew. Doesn;t help that I am of a medical inclination so always imagine the worst. However, DD is full of smiles and cooes this morning and has slowly managed her normal feed. So another quiet day planned here in the cheese home - boring! Expect lots of posts today.

bee - 34G..imagine that... Well done on resistance of soft fluffy marshmellow goodness! Hope you do make it to the next stone. Maybe as a treat for getting to the next stone you could have some naughty. Or try making a SW pud or something.

muser You sound thoroughly fed up, pal. All ok? If you are hungry all the time then you need to eat more....thats the point of EE. Add in more regular snacks and maybe increase your HE as you are BF still, no?
FOod:
B: branflakes (HEB), straws, FF yog
L: Turkey pea and tarragon frittata ( if DD gives me time to make it) and salad
D: singapore vermicilli

Sod all exercise planned..
Got to dash, can hear DD wheezing away happily on her playmat!

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 09:11

Muser I can suggest a snack to fill you to busting, well, two actually:

Big pot of fat free fromage frais, and stir in two teaspoons of jam. It's only 0.5 a syn per teaspoon of jam so you can have more! Or a big pot of fromage frais, spoon a little bit out and dump in one of those chocolate orange muller lights and mix together. It's really nice!

Or bung some peppers, courgettes, tomatoes, red onion and garlic in a dish, spray with frylight and bung in the oven for half an hour or so on 200c - and it's syn free!

Sainsbury's Be Good To Yourself Cumberland sausages are only 0.5 a syn each on a red day so you could have some of those on standby in the fridge maybe?

And if you are bf'ing then you do get extra allowances - I have them written down if you need them?

Cheese I'll be here most of today (well, between the usual chores) so post away! And yes, and that moving your eyes from side to side watching the tennis is exercise - you'll have lovely toned eye muscles Grin

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 09:15

I'll post it anyway - if your dc is around 3 - 4 months and you are bf'ing, you're allowed 4 more healthy extras on top of the normal allowance. That should help!

Hedgepig · 20/06/2011 09:35

morning

Cheese let me know how the Singapore Vermicelli goes it looks delicious in the Magazine. thanks heavens DD has perked up a bit, LOs do this all the time get you all worried and then ping back ho hum

I tried the Bacon and veg pie from the family friendly section of the mag last night, I wouldn't bother with that one ladies tbh. (Unfortunately i have the leftovers for lunch today)

Food today
B- Shredded wheat and fruity Ryvita
L - Leftover Bacon pie thing (so looking forward to that Hmm)
T - Chicken stirfry

snacks - fruit mostly

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 10:00

OOh I look forward to the sexy googly eyes!

Hedgepig its really good, I have made it a couple of times. I can't get hold of rice noodles bizarrely but I just use normal noodles. nThat bacon pie looked grim in the mag, so didn't fancy it. Haha, poor you having to have seconds. I did the pork last night and it said to grill the pork loin. But it took far far far longer than 8 min on each side so next time I will bake it. Tasted nice though.

God, I'm bored already, not really one for staying indoors! I could tidy our shithole house...

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 10:15

Ooooh, was that the pork stuffed with peppadew peppers? How long would you bake it for, and at what temp? If it is that one, I'm thinking of giving it a try this week.

Dd has decided she wants the playdoh. She is currently eating the flourescent yellow one. Time for a cuppa I think, before I get cleaning. Better hang the washing first and then pray the rain doesn't start too soon!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 11:03

Yes it was! I would bake it for as long as the it needs according to its weight (or whatever the packet says) plus 10min as the bacon inthe stuffing goes in raw too. I'd def do it again.

Oh playdoh..we have lottie the playmat out, the bumbo and the bouncer..as long as shes got her giraffe she is happy though!

Muser · 20/06/2011 13:36

Thanks all. I'm fine, just tired out from growth spurt/sleep regression horror. I have been eating my extra HE and eating plenty of food. I just seem to get hungry again stupidly quickly. We went out for lunch yesterday to a place where I normally manage to eat about half of the food in front of me. I polished off the lot. And then within 2 hours was making toast. It's crazy.

I have had a sneaky weigh in today and do appear to have lost a bit. But I need to be careful that my extra food is good food or it won't last.

I have quark in the fridge. What's it good for? I was going to mix it with smoked salmon trimmings to start with for some pate. What else can I do?

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 13:45

Slice open a chicken breast, stuff it with quark, ham, mushroom and black pepeer. Stuck in in foil and cook for 25 min!
Will have a think about other things!
Reckon it's the BF muser, think of all the extra milk you are producing to get through a growth spurt!

Spinach roulade

454g/1lb fresh spinach leaves
pinch of grated nutmeg
2 level tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
salt & freshly ground black pepper
4 medium eggs, separated
255g/9oz Quark skimmed milk soft cheese
1 tbsp snipped fresh chives
1/2 tbsp chopped fresh dill
grated zest of 1 lemon
juicie of 1/2 lemon
113g/4oz smoked salmon, chopped

method

  1. Line a 30 x 25cm / 12 x 10in Swiss roll tin with non-stick baking parchment. Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas Mark 5.
  1. Wash the spinach and remove any hard stalks. Place it in a saucepan (without any additional water - only what is clinging to the leaves) and cook, covered, over a low heat until the leaves soften and turn bright green. This takes about 4-5 minutes.
  1. Drain the spinach in a sieve and press out any excess moisture with the back of a spoon. Chop the spinach finely and place in a bowl with the nutmeg, Parmesan and seasoning. Mix together thoroughly and stir in the egg yolks.
  1. Whisk the egg whites in a clean, dry bowl until they are really stiff. Fold them gently with a metal spoon into the spinach mixture, using a figure-of-eight motion.
  1. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and bake in the preheated tin and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until firm to the touch.
  1. Turn the roulade out into a sheet of greaseproof paper and gently remove the lining baking parchment. Make a light impression, (using the back of a knife) (so as not to actually cut it), in the roulade about 1cm / 1/2in from one of the short ends.
  1. Put some non-stick paper over the length of the roulade and then roll up firmly, starting form the end with the indentation. Leave to cool.
  1. Mix the Quark with the chives, dill, grated lemon zest and juice and stir in the smoked salmon. Season with pepper.
  1. Unroll the roulade and spread with the Quark and salmon mixture. Reroll and chill in the refrigerator until required.

Macaroni cheese stuffed peppers

4 large red peppers
salt and freshly ground black pepper
170g/6oz dry macaroni
1 garlic clove
4 spring onions
170g/6oz quark skimmed milk soft cheese
4 tbsp fat-free natural fromage frais
1 tsp mild chilli powder
2 level tbsp freshly grated parmesan cheese
2 tbsp freshly chopped chives

method

  1. Preheat the grill to a medium/hot setting. Halve and de-seed the peppers, leaving the stalks intact. Arrange side by side in the grill pan and cook for 7-8 minutes on each side until tender and lightly charred.
  1. Meanwhile, bring a saucepan of lightly salted water to the boil and cook the macaroni as directed on the packet - appproximately 10-12 minutes. Drain well and return to the saucepan.
  1. Peel and crush the garlic. Trim and finely chop the white and green parts of the spring onions. Mix both into the quark and fromage frais. Add the chilli powder and season well.
  1. When the macaroni is drained, toss the quark mixture into the pasta and mix well. Pile into each pepper and press down lightly to fill them properly.
  1. Return the peppers to the grill pan and sprinkle with the parmesan cheese. Place under the grill for a further 3-4 minutes until golden and hot. Serve sprinkled with chopped chives.

Tip: The chilli powder adds a touch of spice. For a milder flavour replace with ground paprika.

8 syns on red, or 1 on green and ee

I agree that the hunger will be down to the extra milk for bf'ing. It really is amazing how hungry you can get!

Well, I've hoovered, done and hung out 2 lots of washing, done a massive lot of washing up, and just need to do some damp dusting (another reason to love babywipes!) and a general tidy.

Kitchen and bathroom are calling but can wait until tomorrow! S'pose I'd better hunt for the recipe for tonights tea. Glad for the feedback on that bacon pie by the way, I was thinking of trying that. Was it too bland?

Muser · 20/06/2011 14:03

Ooh those sound good.

I thought the hungry might be feeding related. Previously I would have just eaten piles of biscuits. I'm quite pleased that, although I'm not strictly on plan, I'm not eating family sized bars of chocolate either.

Today I had grapenuts/yogurt/grated apple for breakfast. Lunch has been scrambled eggs & bacon with cheese and ryvita. Used 3 eggs for the scrambled eggs to try and beat the hunger. Dinner is either going to be spat bol or chilli, haven't decided.

Hedgepig · 20/06/2011 14:09

the bacon pie was just too dry Bee , I think a dollop of milk (and butter and cream Grin) in it would have helped but would have added Syns unless it was from the HEA allowance. I put some milk on it as I reheated at lunch time and it was much better. Those peppers sound nice must try them.

Muser the eggs should help with the hungry feelings, they always seem to help for me anyway.

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 14:22

Hmmm I wonder if some fromage frais stirred in would fix it?

Hedgepig · 20/06/2011 14:46

I think it would help, it just needs more than the cottage cheese. Cripes I'm struggling at work today its really stuffy and I keep falling asleep. Only 15 mins til home time thank heavens

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 15:00

Ohh butter and cream..dribble!

Domestic goddess hat is on..currently roasting ham so I can make the ham and artichoke taglitelle tomorrow!

I always find eggs fill me up. I can highly recommend frittata for lunch with salad, so yum and filling!

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 15:05

You've just reminded me - pre-diet I used to cook a gammon in the slow cooker with a bottle of coke poured over it. Obviously you tip the coke away - do you think it's dreadfully synfull?

Must go - there is a small lady here with a very smelly nappy...

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 15:31

Well it needs to be lean gammon (Sainsburys sells one) and could you use diet coke?

duckymum · 20/06/2011 21:06

Hello all

I am only hoping I haven't gained this week as I have fallen off the wagon quite badly. Partly down to DDs birthday, and then after I'd had some cake etc my body didn't want to go back to healthy. That and while DS is still breastfeeding I am still fighting the hunger.
Still, managed to swerve round all manner of promotional pastries etc when shopping this morning, and have just had a tin of sardines with salad for dinner. New week, new start and all that.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 21:11

Ah well duckymum well done on avoiding the cake!

I'm watching embarressing fat bodies - its enough to stop me reaching for chocolate tonight!

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 21:13

Cheese I think I'm just going to have to cook it a different way to avoid the temptation.

Duckymum we were just saying earlier today about bf'ing making you so hungry. Are you eating all your extras?

Well, tonight I tried a new recipe from the June SW magazine, the Shepherd's Lentil Pie. Yum yum! Tis less than 12 hours to the weigh in for the week for me

grinningbee · 20/06/2011 21:14

Me too Cheese! I am finding it very good, and certainly inspiring.
