SoloIsAHotCougar · 12/05/2011 14:34

in front of The Cub! Hmm

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 12/05/2011 14:36

This thing about "eat when you are hungry" - can someone tell me how this fits into eating as a family - what if you are not hungry when they are etc....

ppeatfruit · 12/05/2011 15:12

THANK YOU Dotty they sound lovely i will make them i'm wheat free so they will be fine apart from the xanthan, could I use baking pwder instead do you think? Welcome all newpaulies!!

DottyDot · 12/05/2011 15:36

Fab! Yes, baking powder should be fine 'cos you don't want them to rise anyway - let me know how you get on! I've decided to make some g-f lemon shortbread tonight (dp's at choir and the telly's broken!!). We got Phil Vickery's g-f cookbook for Christmas but I've only just got round to opening it - some good stuff in it!

Stickwithit · 12/05/2011 16:15

Hi 'Paulers' I hope it is Ok to post on your thread? I have been skimming the posts in between working today and you seem like a determined and supportive group- the thread has been lovely to read and I am tempted to give the Paul McKenna thing a try.

I have found that 'I can make you thin' is available as a download for the ipod. Can anyone tell me if this is an OK way to do it or should I wait until I have the time to go out and buy CD and/ or book?

Sorry for the hijack!!

ObiWanKenobi · 12/05/2011 16:17

dingdong well done!

niecie I know what you mean about the morning being easiest. I seem to have almost no control at night and the afternoons are challenging. I stupidly bought a jar of lovely fairtrade chocolate spread and now can't stop eating it. Convinced myself when buying it was good as I was supporting fairtrade and a church stall. I'm an idiot as now I can't stop eating. Put it in the fridge thinking that would slow me down but it doesn't go hard like nutella! Don't want to throw it out as it is meant to be a treat for when I want it but may have to. Think my next step has to be to force control while in the shops. Will move back to allowing chocolate in the house when I am more comfortable with the rules.

ObiWanKenobi · 12/05/2011 16:20

Hi stick. Welcome. I gave the book and cd and the iPod app. The app doesn't work well (on the plus side they gave offered me a refund so it's basically free for me) though I do find the journal useful. I find the book and cd much better though. My library had them so you may find yours a good way of checking them out to start with. Good luck!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/05/2011 16:31

amothersplaceisinthewrong - I am getting used to my hunger now, and can time meals with my hunger so I can eat with my family. I usually eat lunch, then if I start to get a bit peckish in the afternoon/evening, I eat something thats just enough to tide me over until dinner. It took a week or two, but it usually works well now. if not, I sit & have a drink at the table while they all eat & Ill eat mine later. TBH though, that doesnt happen much :)

Welcoem to all the other newcomers - this thread is getting so busy! It's great Grin

OP posts:
HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/05/2011 16:33

stickwithit- I have only used the book & CD, so no idea about the app. You can start using the principles listed on page 1 as soon as you like though, the CD just helps some people re-programe their thoughts about food (which is very useful to me!). Some people dont use it all, and just follow the rules. Try it at your next meal & see hwo you get on :)

OP posts:
HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/05/2011 16:34

Obi - use one of the craving techniques pronto! Try tapping yourself away from the choc spread.

DingDong That's great 4.5lbs!! Well done you Grin

Welcome sticks I'm not really reading the book, haven't got much time for that atm, but have a quick flick through it when dp has crap on the telly! I do find the cd really good though. I was saying earlier that I haven't listened to it for a couple of days and I can really see the difference in my will and attitude, so the secrets may lay in the cd! I bought the book along with cd and dvd in a charity shop for £3.

Re: my neighbours, yes, I'd just complain to them. We are all shared ownership, so don't think the housing assosiation would be too interested in sorting it out.
It really annoys me that she is so judgemental of others but so good dam disillusioned with her own kids.
She asked me years ago how I could shout at my 18 month old (she'd heard me one morning and mentioned it when I bumped into her), so I told her that when she catches her small child licking a toilet brush, she'd probably shout too Hmm, she went on to tell me how selfish she thinks it is to shout, and complaining about the family that lived here before us (so when she was child-free), and that they never put their kids to bed, she told me they'd be running around at 9pm and getting herself really riled about it, so now I wanna say "oi, selfish cow, remember that conversation we had 3 years ago about the previous family allowing their 7 and 9 year olds stay up til 9pm, and how the noise was bugging you??????? Well, now you are the selfish mum, I'm the one having a moan, because yours are running around at 2am and I've had enough"
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/05/2011 16:44

Oh I forgot to congratulate DingDong Blush - well done!

OP posts:
ObiWanKenobi · 12/05/2011 17:21

Glaikit good idea. I haven't really tried any of the techniques. Will do that.

silvery wow - she sounds awful. I'm sure someone here can think of a good way of phrasing that conversation if you need help (no suggestions here - I'm rubbish at that kind of thing). Good luck.

DingDongMerrilyOutOfSeason · 12/05/2011 18:45

Thanks all, the encouragement makes it soooooo much easier! Will not weigh myself again for another 2 weeks as quite enjoyed the fact there was a difference rather than weighing every day.

amothersplace I found that really hard at first but now just eat a tiny portion with DCs knowing I can eat later if I get hungry again. I don't want to always eat on my own and am hoping that my appitite, as has happened to many on here, will settly down and become regular.

Silvery I would go with the conversation you have had in your head! Seriously though, I hope you get something worked out, that would drive me mad!

My aim for the next 2 weeks is to have no chocolate near me! I have had a few binges since starting this but the ones where I ate some melon when not hungry probably dodn't have the same effect as the whole box of chocs Blush Am still feeling a bit disgusted but onwards and upwards.

Solo am very jealous of your cub. My DH is lovely but hardly tearing my clothes off, although more so now because I am feeling a bit better. Actually thinking about it, I have been the one not wanting to be naked. Poor DH!

Stickwithit · 12/05/2011 19:38

Thanks for the tips. It sounds like the app may not be worth getting. I will look out for the book and cd.

The rules on page 1 look so straightforward. There must be more too it?! If I eat what I want I think I will pile on more pounds!

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

MuffinsMummy · 12/05/2011 19:42

DingDong I think 2lbs a week is brilliant! That works out at approx. 7 stone in a year!

I managed to not eat anything while working last night but did drink 5 southern comforts with red bull, I'm not sure if swapping food for alcohol is a great idea!

Silvery sorry your neighbours are so bad! I do tend to shout a bit Blush but wouldn't do it after 8 let alone 2 in the morning!

The kids have eaten but as I had KFC for lunch I'm not hungry yet will eat when they are in bed.

ladywhiteadder · 12/05/2011 20:07

I am so relentlessly positive today I'm even driving myself mad. Is that "new healthy thought patterns" Paul or am I just a really irritating person?

Have had a great day. In the end I ran and swam. I'm only on run 2 mins, walk 1 from the couch to 5k program but it felt easy, hurray! Not sure how 3:1 will feel. After lunch I swam, saunaed and jacuzzied. Am a strong breast stroke swimmer but never really got to grips with crawl. My new adventurous self decided to have a go though. Managed 5 lengths - it's bloody hard work! Idid nearly drown on the last one so if any of you are swimmers can you offer some advice on technique please? Unless I have become so annoying I need drowning Wink.

Have really enjoyed nice food and being in control of it. Hope everyone else has felt good today?
Silvery sending you sympathy, she sounds dreadful but I hope you enjoyed your hoovering!
You ok FAB?

SilveryMoon · 12/05/2011 20:15

Evening. Am having another blip evening. I have told dp not to let me go to bed without listening to the cd!!
I will make a fresh start tomorrow.
This is going to sound really silly, but I know it's only been a week, and although I have not lost weight yet, but looking in the mirror today, I have started to feel abit better about how I look. Ok, I am a bit larger than I'd like to be, but there are good things about me. I have a nice rack Wink, I like my hair, I have nice eyes, and my legs are a nice shape.
It's all going in the right direction. Grin

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/05/2011 20:20

Stickwithit - honestly, that is all there is to it! The CD sort of gets your thinking about food to change, which helps a lot. But if you follow those rules 100% you will lose weight. The freedom is amazing! I think everyone here has lost at least some weight doing this.

By eating what you want, you take away the "forbiddeness" of it. and then you really no longer crave it as much! I used to be a crispaholic, now I eat the occasional bag (or half) and they really dont taste as great as I thought! When you take your time to chew, some things really dont taste as nice. You will find that you want really tasty food.

ladywhiteadder - I know what you mean, i get insanely positive too, espceially when I am on a roll with the programe!

OP posts:
Stickwithit · 12/05/2011 20:48

Thanks how that does make sense and I feel quite excited about trying an eating plan with such clear rules.

I have a couple of questions if anyone has time to help (I really should get the book first I guess, but I would love to give it a go from tomorrow.

Firstly, I don't tend to be hungry in the mornings. I can last until lunchtime without feeling hungry. Is it really ok with this plan to skip eating until lunchtime if I really don't feel hungry.

Secondly, I sometimes get headaches in the afternoon if I don't eat (makes no sense given that I don't feel hungry all morning). Does this feeling that I need to eat to relieve my headache count as being properly hungry.

Sorry about the questions I am new to this......

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/05/2011 21:01

Dont be afraid to ask questions :) I am happy to answer as many as I can, and I am sure the other girls dont mind either! This is a great thread for support.

If you are not hungry, dont eat! You will probably find though, that as your body gets used to being refuelled exactly when it needs it, you will find your eating habits might change. If you are only eating exactly what you need up til bedtime (no overeating) then you may find that you begin to be naturally hungry at some point in the morning. You will have used up all your fuel overnight and be ready to start the new day. Dont worry if you dont though, everybody is completely different and no-one can say what your body needs :) Thats why diets fail, there is no "one size fits all", just eat when your body asks and stop when it tells you to. Simples Grin

Re - the headaches. How do you know they are caused by hunger? Do ou also feel hungry? if so, eat. I am sure though, that if you are regularly refuelling your body exactly when it needs it, it wont need to create a headache to ensure food - if you get what I mean? If you are eating what you need, your body wont be asking you to eat in suc an extreme way as it wont need to shout as loud anymore. Im sure paul uses this example in his book - your hunger is like someone knocking at the door. The more you ignore it, the louder & more frantic it gets until you answer it. At the first gentle knocking, just answer then there is noneed for extremes.

I hope that helps and I havent rambled on too much!

TheOriginalFAB · 12/05/2011 21:05

I AM OKAY, LADYADDER, ARE YOU?

Sorry, caps lock. I am not shouting at you Blush.

Stickwithit · 12/05/2011 21:29

Thank you how, it's really kind of you to take the time to clarify that for me.

I hate 'forcing' myself to eat breakfast when I font feel hungry so this all sounds great!

I don't know for sure that my headaches are caused by hunger. I tend to get them when I have managed to keep my sugar consumption down (I can happily eat hugs amounts of sweet foods), they are accompanied by sugar cravings, and they are resolved by a chocolate bar (or a paracetamol). Your thoughts about responding to being hungry more quickly make a lot of sense. I am hoping that may be the key to avoiding headaches.

Wierdly before I posted this I was craving a muffin but was not hungry. The craving has gone now. Wow!

Thanks again for the support.

MintCakeMavis · 12/05/2011 22:51

Hi all. Well had a positive day with drinking lots of water and having smaller portions at each meal and realising that my biggest thing to overcome is boredom! I eat at work for a change and because I can

I realise that I need to overcome this but I'm being nice to myself and taking it in small steps. I've spent too long trying to fix all my bad habits overnight and then beating myself up when I don't achieve that.

This Paul stuff is v liberating :)
