All right, when you've un-cringed from the above -

I'm about to (re-)embark on Slimming World and since I have neither the time nor the funds to go to classes could really do with a coupla pals for those delicious weekly morning weigh-ins. Is anyone interested? I guess it would be ideal if we were all SWing, but it ain't essential. It's the praise or blame I need, alongside willing recipients of lengthy descriptions of the size of my arse Grin.

Few stats (and needless to say we needn't go in for actual weights here)

I lost 3.5 stone a couple of years ago on SW, and have gained about 20lb of that. I KNOW! Silly bint.

As a first step I want to lose 10lb because this will take me into the 'light enough for IVF' category (I have 6 months left before referral for fertility treatment and if not pregnant by then would like to arrive in the pink of health).

After that I would like to lose another 10lb and say 'hello stranger!' to my sad neglected wardrobe of vintage frocks.

Finally, if you are interesting in hanging out, would you mind awfully looking in the mirror and checking that you actually are properly overweight?! Because nothing would depress me more than celebrating getting into a size 16 dress, when everyone else on the thread was lamenting finding their size 10 skinnies a little snug Hmm

Right. I'll now sit back and await rejection. Alpine my luvva, if you're reading this do join!

stinkypinky · 07/05/2011 10:28

Put on 8 stone of the 7 lost Grin skin just accommodated it, until DD2 stretched further. I would rather be thinner and flappy than fatter and full.

Pile did not appear until 2nd pg, so nowt to do with vag birth. I would never do VBAC, but it is different for everyone. With subsequent CSs you have a mini tuck as they get rid of scar tissue and can make a rough emergency scar much neater.

BlooferLady · 07/05/2011 10:48

The phrase 'I would rather be thinner and flappy than fatter and full' is officially the best thing I have ever read on MN

Shops visited, menu sorted:

RED DAY
Break (courtesy of the dear OM): toast, scrambled egg, bacon, grilled tom (HEB)
Lunch (having big lunch to accommodate OM's night shift): BBQ chicken, potato salad, salad (HEB, 4 syns in honey and light mayo)
Tea; bit of salmon, some curly kale

I will prolly have some cheeeeeeese (HEA) as a snack later on I speckt.

I have also bought a tray of flowering bedding plants to revive my poor balcony. I had a lovely herb garden and some beautiful shrubs, but they did not survive the bitter winter and my preoccupation with the 90,000 biscuits Sad. I have apologised to Mother Nature and vow to do better this time.

OP posts:
Onlyaphase · 07/05/2011 11:51

Another vote here for thinner and flappy. At least you will look better in clothes (although prob not bikini).

Bloofer good luck with the bedding plants. I've got mountains of stuff to plant out and deal with generally in the garden and am pointedly looking in the other direction singing 'I can't see you'.
Also do you live in Hackney in old Lunnon Town? I think you said so 600 posts ago and I meant to ask. In my London days I lived in Limehouse, Mile End, Whitechapel and then Hackney, close to Victoria Park. Is Frocks still there?

Pixie sorry about anniversary today. It sucks sometimes. Any chance of going out and doing something distracting?

Stinky yes we did use a balance bike for DD, and her proper bike doesn't have stabilisers and she is doing so well - I'm sure I didn't learn till I was about 9 years old due to mad tractors on the roads, which are 20 foot wide not 2 foot. No midget tractors round here, no.

Alpinepony am very jealous of your looser gym kit indeed. Must have been lovely for you to find room in your clothes! Sorry to hear about your horse with attitude problem, must be difficult when you can't bribe them to do what you want (my weapon of choice for difficulties)

Right, off to do something constructive.

BlooferLady · 07/05/2011 11:59

Oh Oh oh Oh Oh Only I'm going to PM you zackly where I live - I have a suspicion we have been but a stone's throw from each other!

Pix moi luvver I didn't see about the rotten anniversary, I am sorry Sad. I concur utterly with whoever said 'flexible syns'. Even if it means being super-ascetic for three days afterwards, give yourself a day of comfort and Nice Things.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 07/05/2011 16:01

Going to use thinner and flappy as my mantra!

Bloofer - my DH works at the Homerton..we live west though as its near my work. Love Vic park though. I also replanted our pots in our tiny london yard. Was glad of the rain this morning

Pixie - sorry to hear about the anniversary. Hope you have family or friends arounbd to distract you - and some yum food,

Alpine - im impressed with your loose-fit gym clobber. Hope you hawhee behaves.

Took DD out for a walk to shops earlier, hoping she'd sleep in pram. Made it half way round supermarket before the screaming commenced and she hasnt really stopped since. Shes just dozed off but is right wound up and is exhausted. Am stressed!!

right today my grub is

Brunch - tomato, mushroom, poached egg, beans, bacon and toast HEB
Dinner - steak and mustard sauce (from extra easy cook cook plus veggies
Snacks - 2x alpen light, ml yog, berries, grapes
and if today carries on like this an alcoholic beverage!

sorry for bad sp or punctuation..one hand typing

Onlyaphase · 07/05/2011 17:44

Cheeseandbiscuits you should certainly have a dispensation for wine tonight given the day you've had. And IMVHO there is little in life as stressful as a screaming baby in a crowded supermarket on a Saturday, if said baby is yours.

Also interested in the steak and mustard sauce you mentioned - is it simple to throw together?

Cheeseandbiscuits · 07/05/2011 18:07

Yep that was us! In a very upmarket waitrose with all the yummy mummy with their quiet babies tutting at me. Crying intermittent but still ongoing so a btl of wine will duly be opened!! Thanks for the allowance only!
Will try the sauce tonight and stick the recipe on here if it's successful!

Xx

cheepcheepchoconora · 07/05/2011 19:10

evening all.... my legs still hurt Sad

Can someone please slap me?!?!?! I have just been 'given' forcedonme clothes by my DM.... she who has always been a 20 / 22 throughout my teen years but in the last 18 months has lost about 6 stone... she's now a 16 - I am somewhere around a 16 myself (apart from the cs overhang) and have been given clothes up to a 22 Blush.... I CLEARLY need to get my head and arse in gear and sort my diet out! I am doing regular exercise now and building up distance so it is a useful amount of calories burnt... I need to work on diet! I am just so bloody shattered with the two littlies that I just grab EASY stuff... like the kitkat chunky I have just eaten instead of dinner fornow

Hope you are all good - spotted Pony has some room in the gym gear - well done that lady!

cheese, try not to stress about the supermarket stuff, even the yummy mummys have been there at Jab time!

Can't remember what else I missed... will check back!

Hedgepig · 07/05/2011 21:55

evening all.

Cheep don't worry about the clothes I'm sure they were given in the best intentions. I think the thing to do with just wanting to grab things is having some things to grab, I'm really like the ryvita minis (sweet chilli) - 4 syns, I have just found weetabix oaty bar 3.5 syns (I think they are nicer than Alpen lights), slices of ham spread with quark and rolled up (Free on Extra Easy), Cracker bread spread with Marmite - 1 syn, I'm sure between us we can come up with a few options for you. But it is hard to prepare things when you are knackered form runnuing around after the LOs

Today Extra Easy - I have had:
B - 2 Weetabix + a dash of milk (Can't stand them soggy) HeB. Nana and grapes with natural yog (05 syn for the yog)
L - Veg, pasta & ham soup - free
D - Med veg bake with vegetables - Free

Snacks - Ryvitas minis (4 syn), wine (6 syns), fairy cake (4.5 syns), grapes

so not so bad for a weekend

Cheers Cheese I hope the wine helped.

I've managed to move a dying box out of a pot into the garden hopefully it will recover, more chance in the garden than the pot as I am crap at watering pots.

cheepcheepchoconora · 07/05/2011 22:13

cheers hedgepig, trouble is I am not following any 'plan' and I don't like them tbh - I like the paul mckenna way of thinking - but am not following ANY of the rules at the mo - need to get concious about my eating rather than just shoving something in my mouth! Grin

on the good side I have found some cereals that I like (never been a big breakfast girl) so I can start trying to make myself at least start the day well! Cheerios / raisin wheats - not tooo bad are they?
got to be better than a bagel smothered in philli? or nothing at all being the more regular option!

also doesn't help when doing my food shop - I basically buy what the DH / kids want or need and don't think about me! Need to start getting some nice healthy bits in to entice me with! Am doing a roast tomorrow (thanks for the motivation crappy weather) so shall endeavour to have less roasties than normal - normally do lots of veg anyway - around 5 types normally, we prefer smaller amounts of lots of different than half a plate of carrots :)

your diet sounds very healthy hedge well done you :)

Cheeseandbiscuits · 07/05/2011 22:40

Chin Chin ladies ... Raising my very full glass of wine to you. Izzy finally asleep...11hrs later. Blimey!

Only - good recipe would you like it?

Cheep- try not to worry about it. Best intentions and all that! All that exercise is fab.
hedge - good days eating, well done! I like the choc and orange alpen light bars. Grapes are good to snack on. I made tomato lentil and bacon soup which is free and yum. I also made smoked mackerel dip which is free and had it with carrots etc, pretty good!

Righ, time to finish my wine. Hic Hic!

BlooferLady · 08/05/2011 07:08

MAYDAY!!! MAYDAY!!!!

People - what the fucking fuck do you do when SW just doesn't work?!

I weighed myself this morning and no loss, despite the PMT water retention having vanished and despite having been very 'good' for 4 days.

Is there a possibility that it's just not going to work for me and I'm flogging a fat horse?? If so, why - in God's good name why?!

I know you'll all understand the despair of putting energy and effort into trying to lose weight and simply getting nowhere. I have managed not to bawl my eyes out this time but I'm really very depressed.

My weight gain has been relatively sudden (2 stone in 2 years, and 11lb of that in the last few months) and so I have very little to wear - and what I do have, I loathe. It's reaching the stage when I am reluctant to leave the house because it would take a 2 hours and an agony of preparation to feel even faintly respectable and then once I sit myself beside my slender fragrant friends I want to slit my wrists.

All right, moan over. Does anyone know what other eating plans are as healthy and easy as SW? I did lose a swift 7lb a while back with calorie counting but it is so joyless, and such hard work Sad

I slightly hope you're all doing better than me

OP posts:
cheepcheepchoconora · 08/05/2011 07:19

awww bloof.... Sad poor thing... are you eating all your allowance? I heard from some people you need to use all your syns etc to ensure you are getting enough calories, or your body might be doing the whole starvation mode thing

Cheeseandbiscuits · 08/05/2011 07:34

Oh no, bloofer. I also heard that about the syns. Also, if you've been exercising more then you would be converting fat to muscle which weighs more. maybe measuring yourself would also help? It's only halfway through the week so don't despair yet. Demoralising though. Chin up Bird and keep going x

BlooferLady · 08/05/2011 07:46

Oh hello dears, I didn't think anyone would be up, thank you

Yes, I'm def eating all my allowances and if anything I am not being as strict as i could be - For instances yesterday I made flapjack for the OM's packed lunches, and sneaked a slices and some mix Blush, and I do keep sneaking flaked almonds every time I open the damn cupboard (I have now hidden them). And I haven't been going to the gym because I am so furious that it dod nothing for me last time - I think about it then immediately remember I gained 5lb and can't be arsed to go!

I think you're both right though, I need to soldier on, and it is only halfway through and I could well poo out 1.5lb sometime later this morning Grin

I just cannot believe how demoralising it is and end up really angry with my friends who seem not to give a single solitary thought to any of this yet can wear what they like. Here I am eating fruit & veg till it's coming out of my ears and turning down invitations to nights out because I can't bear to be seen like this, while they get pissed and eat doner kebabs and can slip on jeans and a vest and look amaze. Heh. I've brought it on myself I know but it doesn't help.

Well - since you fellows and the OM think I should carry on a little longer before throwing in the SW towel I'll keep going until Wed and if nothing doing then might have to switch to calorie counting (i know it works for me, i just HATE it).

Food today (RED)
Break - fruit and mullerlight
Lunch - salmon, squash, curly kale, stewed apple (HEB and 5 syns for sugar)
Tea - eggy bread (HEB), bacon, grilled tomato, fruit salad.

THANK YOU EVERYONE.

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 08/05/2011 08:03

Hello bloofer I'm sorry you're feeling miserable, I really am. If its any consolation he treated me to new gym top and trainers yesterday. The top is Adidas and a lovely colour but leaves little to the imagination. The boy at the till said "you can get a larger size" - I mumbled and paid, because how do you respond to "er, it is the largest size you gym-added body-fascist cunt?". :( why do Nike etc in the us go up to size 34 and in Europe its a very stingy 18?

Anyway, feel free to ignore, but I think you are quite heavy on the carb, e.g., egg bread seems to feature prominently. Jailbait eats a lot of it to maintain his figure (father Christmas).

Bought new dark blue jeans and Orange tee yest. Re-tried the white jeans, totally unforgiving in the camel-toe area.

Took the bikes out with babyseat (pic on facecrack) - went about 6 miles and my legs had to work very hard phewwww! But one of the nicest afternoons I've had in ages. AIBU to try and find a farm selling ice-cream we can stop at? Holland is not flat, not where I live anyway.

cheepcheepchoconora · 08/05/2011 08:03

you'll get there bloof.... how are you with portion sizes? do you have to weigh or anything with SW?

if you do decide to try something else have a look at paul mckenna... basically uses 4 principles:

Eat when you are hungry
stop when you are full
conciously enjoy every mouthful
drink water

thats basically it! The logic being most of the time we overeat its because we do it unconciously - bucket of popcorn whilst watching a film anyone?

it takes about 15 mins for your tum to realise its full, so the eating slowly helps you stop overeating :)

the best bit is you eat whatever you fancy! I got on really well with it a few years ago, lost 9lb in a month - whilst eating out, having pizza / curry etc Grin I unfortunately had a missed misscarriage though and struggled to get back into it

AlpinePony · 08/05/2011 08:05

Can you channel TOWIE? "No carb before Marbs!" Hehehehe

AlpinePony · 08/05/2011 08:08

Speaking of Paul mckenna, might also be worth checking out feminist Susie orbach's "on eating". It's been some years but iirc it might work for you as it's foody-oriented, you are denied nothing, so maybe something for you?

BlooferLady · 08/05/2011 08:17

oh GOD Pony the horror of being a big lass buying gym wear Shock Grin I feel the same about even buying trainers and I have really delightfully small feet. Am envious of your bike riding - I loved that pic! I liked my bike but living where I do it was all rather a hazard to life and limb.

Yes - egg bread - am addicted. Blame MsFC when she gets back. I do like carby days because it fills me up and I like comfort food, and you're right: I have wondered whether a more low-carb plan would have quicker effects. BUT. The thing is - that's Slimming World! It's all within the plan, which worked for me before, and works for others. THat's what's so confuddling Angry Sad

I think if I get nowhere on the DoD(tm) I will need to cast about for another solution.

cheep the portion size is an interesting one and why I like SW. I have a huuge appetite and basically would have something in my mouth all day if I could . This is why I'm fat -ask anyone who knows me or has been to my gaff - I eat no, repeat NO, junk food, no snacks, no pre-prepared food. Everything I eat is healthy (aside from the baked goods!) and wholesome- but I eat LOADS of it! When Iwas 18 stone the GP sent me for blood tests convinced I was bordering on a heart attack, and I had low blood sugar, low cholesterol, low blood pressure, the lot. He was very disappointed.

ANYWAY (I digress) I like SW because there is hardly any weighing. You have to weigh things like cheese for healthy extras but basically most things are free and unlimited. However I think maybe that is not challenging my tendency to eat big plates of food??

I like those PMcKenna principles though after a lifetime of 'dieting' I can't get my head round the idea of eating what you like Confused. I might try and get my paws on that Susie Orbach.

Thanks for helping folks by the way...

OP posts:
cheepcheepchoconora · 08/05/2011 08:30

hope you are feeling a little better :) Can we swap lifestyles please? I pretty much live on crap and junk food atm! Blush

MadameBoo · 08/05/2011 08:55

Two more barbecues this weekend (wet ones). I think I've managed to get away with it thus far.

I'd like to read the Susie book too, thanks for the recommendation Alps. Are you back on facecrack now Bloof?

BlooferLady · 08/05/2011 08:57

Grin Grin

Har! That's the silly thing innit. I honestly am as bonny and healthy a woman as ever drew breath (if we ignore my rather Victorian weak chest, which would be all right if I lay of le smoking), but a big fat fatty. And there are people I know who eat nobbut junk food and are dead unhealthy but lovely and slim. But people looking at the pair of us would put me down as on the verge of being strangled by my own lard-hardened aorta, and assume they were the healthy ones.

As has so often been observed - life = NOT FAIR ACTUALLY THANKS.

In other news I am watching a re-run of How To Look Good Naked. They are cheating by using someone who was a championship ice skater and still has an amazing bod. For heaven's sake, she looks good naked purely by getting her kit off

OP posts:
BlooferLady · 08/05/2011 08:58

well done on managing BBQs Boo - they are minefields I tell you minefields, even the wet ones!

Nah, was snooping via someone else's page Grin. I am still mid-FB flounce. I am re-joining when a) my studies are finished and b) there is less danger of me turning up in photos looking like a fat alcoholic tramp.

OP posts:
pixiestix · 08/05/2011 09:11

Morning early risers.
I got a bit of a lie in today as littley is teething and was so grumpy in the night we stuffed her full of calpol and she slept until 8.30 - a miracle in this house! Anniversary was suitably shit. I avoided the biscuit tin and ate two packets of Super Noodles instead Blush which amazingly was only 7 syns on Extra Easy.
Right Bloofer - my advice would be to have a Super Speed week. Go through your book and note down anything in the lists on the first 20 pages or so that has SS next to it. These are super speed foods which will boost you out of "a plateau" - hate that horrible twee phrase - and onto the road to weight loss. Or so I am told Wink Eat as many of these as you can for the next week - include some with every meal you have.
If that doesn't work then I am as flummoxed as you.
