I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

Oh it's good to know I'm not the only one with a good amount of weight to lose. I've honestly not felt this determined for years so I'm really hopeful of a good loss.

Gilbonzo, brilliant news! Right I need to keep up with you now!

meggymegmegs · 09/06/2011 19:25

RGPargy, I honestly have no idea if that amount of ham is a good idea, but laughing my head off here at your Tasmanian devil ham party Grin

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 09/06/2011 20:02

I'm having ham cravings now and I don't have any Angry Grin

foreverondiet · 09/06/2011 23:25

Hi all, not been online as its been a jewish festival which means I've spend 2 days eating too much Sad but at least it all was nice good, so back on diet now!

gil great that you have lost, really pleased for you.
red re: pcos I don't think its down to calories, I think with pcos just very sensitive to any sugar and refined carbs, and even on 1200 calories a day with these, may well still not loose. Have you tried strictly following the pcos diet book? (Collette Harris)
rg I think a protein portion as being 125g so that sounds like a lot.
pasqueflower I am less motivated now that I am at target too, hence me eating too much over these 2 days but will get back onw wagon Smile I have signed up for another triathlon and I have a new target of getting my body fat down below 20%.

RGPargy · 10/06/2011 10:17

forever Ah, so 125g is the max i will stick to. Thanx! Oh, does that include eggs too as normally i have 3 eggs in my lunchtime omelette when i'm at home. Is this too many? Should i just be having 2 eggs instead?

RGPargy · 10/06/2011 10:25

meg Glad you enjoyed the party Wink

Gil Sorry you didn't have any ham! Are you getting some today now, just because i've mentioned it? Oh isn't it nice to be influential! :o

redderthanred · 10/06/2011 11:21

Rg - ive had several 3 egg omletts or scrambled eggs :) its a HUGE amount and i ususally end up full for ages... but thats not a bad thing.

i dont know, as long as you are logging it and it works for you?

Forever - yeah, maybe. But i think at the momment, im losing, the doctor is happy, im happy and i dont want to go messing about with something when its working. When ive reached my goal i can tweak things then i think. Ive followed pcos diet in the pass and actually gained a considerable amount on it. ( though i did feel fantastic) i just think we are all different and what works for one doesnt necessarily work for another. Glad you enjoyed your festival ;)

Am off for a weekend break at legoland. Am staying in a posh posh hotel with pool, and steam room/hot tub/spa and lovely restaurtant, then have a trip round windsor planned. Im away for 3 days, i indend on sticking to it one day, having a blow out one day and sort of middling between the two on the third day.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 10/06/2011 11:57

I think I have found the solution for me. Hugely reduced sugar intake and no dairy (lactose). I've been having a treat of a couple of squares of white choc in the evenings which is my only sugar intake now, I'm having coffee and tea black and I'm still having minimal to no pasta/rice/pots/etc.

I've only lost 1kg (although that's in 4 days so not bad) but my whole body shape has change. My rings are looser, my watch is looser and my jeans are more comfortable. I'm also not bloating much after eating which is a brand new experience for me. Yay me!

And I found some ham in the fridge so all is good with the world (except all the shit bu I'm glossing over that for today)

RGPargy · 10/06/2011 12:15

red Have a fabulous weekend! Sounds lovely!

Gil It's amazing when you can see your shape changing isn't it! Well done you!! Are we having our own private ham party at lunch time then? I have brought in my little 70g tub of ham today to go with my salad. :o

I am dreading (but looking forward to) my afternoon tea tomorrow. Not only is it going to cost me in calories but also in ££ too! We are severly skint atm and this trip is something i could really do without paying for! I cant really not go either as my friend has booked and paid for both the tea tickets and the boat tickets (we're going to london via the clippper rather than the train) so i cannot back out now. Never mind, she's only 40 once, even if her birthday is lasting for about 3 weeks!! Wink Also, me and a couple of other friends all chipped in and bought her a joint present, which she has already had. Does that mean that when it's her actual birthday next weekend i should probably buy her another present (and a card), just as a token? Confused

foreverondiet · 10/06/2011 12:35

gil I feel better when I've eaten less carbs, esp sugar - ate too many/much in last few days and am still feeling all bloaty today, hoping it will pass along with the weight I put on.

rg 3 egg omelette ok if you are hungry! But aim for 125-150g for protein as a gauge!

red - I agree if its working go for it, just now I don't want to eat 1200 calories forever so I need to see what happens for me if I eat more but better calories. I lost on the pcos diet but I did a low fat version of it!

PebblesAndWine · 12/06/2011 08:59

Hi all!

I've been so terrible at posting, sorry. My father in law passed away, so dieting obviously took a back step.

I gained about 7lbs I think, so the 5lbs I initially lost are back!

I restarted on Tuesday and have been pretty good, apart from Friday night when I downed a bottle of wine (it was needed!) I did two exercise classes on weds, and my davina dvd on Thursday. I was trying to do some exercise every day, do you think its too much?

I'm going on a girls holiday in 25 days, I NEED to lose at least a stone, is it possible?!

I keep weighing event day and then getting pissed off cos I haven't lost. Must stop.

How are you all getting on?

PebblesAndWine · 12/06/2011 09:09

I have added some of you, but I'm PebblesAndWine on there too if I have missed anyone!

SandStorm · 12/06/2011 12:30

Hi Pebbles

I've accepted you :)

foreverondiet · 12/06/2011 13:07

pebbles sorry to hear of your loss.

You can loose a stone in 25 days but it will take some commitment (ie limited cheating) & IMO to loose that amount that quickly you'll have to really focus on what you eat (quality) as well as the number of calories (although no need at all to go under the MFP amount, but maybe don't eat all exercise calories).

In terms of quality I mean no sugar or refined carbs or processed food. Limited portions of carbs eg brown rice, porridge etc. Limited fruit (stick to berries, apples, pears, 1-2 portions a day). And stacks of veggies, plus meat, fish, eggs, tofu etc.

PebblesAndWine · 12/06/2011 16:53

Thanks Forever.

I think you're right and I may have to limit my carbs. At the moment when I'm hungry I grab some toast, so I will have to replace that with carrot sticks or something!

I'm loving porridge at the moment, so may try to have that for breakfast and then just meat or fish and veg for the rest of the day.

I need to look good in that bikini!

I was going to go for a run today but dh has been working late shifts so there just wasn't time. So I will try and do a two mile run tomorrow.

I went on the same holiday last year and was 10st 5lbs so if I could get to that and rid myself of some or all of my wobbly bits, I would be so happy!

foreverondiet · 12/06/2011 18:12

pebbles don't reach for the carrots (too carby), go for green veggies instead. I had today turkey slices this afternoon a snack and natural fat free yoghurt this morning.

PebblesAndWine · 12/06/2011 22:39

Oh no, even carrots are bad?! Yikes, ok fat free yogurt, cucumbers, turkey. I can do that! If I weigh on weds and haven't lost, i may cry. I have been so good (apart from the wine, bad me....)

Going to do a run tomorrow too, must do it, must, must, must......

foreverondiet · 12/06/2011 22:46

Carrots ok in moderation just don't go for them every time you are hungry!

Fat free yoghurt does contain milk sugar (watch out for added sugar in fruit ones) but you have to eat something, and it also contains protein so will keep you full for longer.

Turkey & chicken breast / white fish / eggs and green veggies are excellent. Eat as much as you want.

Should be able to loose 2-3lbs by wednesday morning if you are very strict - go easy on fruit.

PebblesAndWine · 12/06/2011 23:11

Thanks forever Smile

One thing I don't count is my milk in my coffee, I suppose I probably should really.....

Right, let's do this thing! Fingers crossed for weds, thanks for all the excellent advice!

RGPargy · 13/06/2011 07:12

Morning ladies! Another 2lb off this morning, making a grand total of 11lb so far! Will catch up properly later :o

meggymegmegs · 13/06/2011 09:45

Morning everyone, very pleased to check in that my weight this morning is 14st 4lb, so I have lost 6lb in total since I started on MFP last Monday. I really hoped to have a good loss in my first week and am so happy I have.

Most of my loss has been weight that I recently gained from an indulgent holiday and a very stressful time, so I'm sure the rest of the weight that has been sat there for ages will be harder to shift.

RGPargy, really well done!

PebblesAndWine, really sorry to about your FIL, well done on getting back on track :)

This week is my last in my current job after having worked here for over 6 years so there will be at least 2 lunches out and definitely cakes, but I am determined to be sensible, I want to feel great in my new job and not be the fatty in the office.

foreverondiet · 13/06/2011 10:21

meg well done what a great start! Yes 6lbs not sustainable and IME thats almost how much I easily put on with a weekend off the wagon, but loose it quickly afterwards. 2lbs a week more sustainable.

But its nice to have that as motivation at the start.

rgpargy - I have been listening to Paul McKenna and its helping me to eat more slowly, and to stop when full.

PebblesAndWine · 13/06/2011 10:45

RGPargy, well done on that 2lbs!

Thanks Meg Smile and WOW - 6lbs is amazing! That's what I'm hoping for on weds, you have given me hope.......It feels great when you get a big loss like that at the start, its incredibly motivating. Well done!

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 13/06/2011 20:38

I am back, I lost you all ladies!!!!

Gilbo - have been thinking about you and your weight loss, my sil had struggled to lose her weight for ages (not massively overweight) and felt sluggish and was always always really tired. My bro gave her for her birthday a long weekend trip to a clinic in switzerland (have no idea but sounds a bit pricey!!) and they totally detoxed her, gave her a diet to work with and cut out all sorts of food which 3 months later she is allowed to reintroduce slowly. It has revolutionised her life, she was tested for all sorts and it was discovered that she had some bacteria that was fighting her body Hmm however she is now back and has lost 2 stone, has loads of energy and is feeling brilliant, she now runs 10k and all the rest. I have no idea what it was that she did and it was a bit strange however it worked for her. Lucky cow Grin and then I read your post about losing a kilo WAY TO GO!

Am struggling a bit with MFP but am trying to get back into it.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 14/06/2011 06:49

Hello Figgy! Thank you for thinking of me Smile. I think I have found the problem for me - dairy, sugar and potatoes. Although if anyone wants to send me on a spa weekend in Switzerland to make sure I won't say no Grin.

I haven't weighed myself this week but I have done my measurements and I've lost 0.5 of an inch off my waist in 2 weeks which I'm happy with.

Congratulations to everyone upthread with those fantastic losses Smile
