I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

Right have cancelled Weightwatchers (it is lbs I want to lose not £) have been busy typing recipes in so I am ready to go.

SandStorm · 05/06/2011 18:36

I've only just started with it and so far I'm going great guns and finding it a lot easier than I anticipated. Whether I'm still feeling this way in a month or two remains to be seen.

foreverondiet · 05/06/2011 18:39

Have put one triathlon photo on MFP, others of facebook if you befriend me!

need to get kids into bed will update more later!

RGPargy · 05/06/2011 21:36

Gilbonzo It's amazing how much weight can affect our lives isn't it. Well done on getting as far as you have! Sounds like you have really turned your life around. :)

Forever How did it go today?!! I have befriended you on FB so i can nosey at your triathlon pictures!

Pasque What's the Harcombe diet?

seb1 Yay! Inputting recipes is so boring isn't it lol. Well done and good luck!

Sandstorm I am finding it a lot easier now that i have started to eat properly and more sensibly.

I am really hoping for a loss tomorrow. I have been eating really well since about Tuesday i think and have also been trying NOT to eat my exercise calories. I certainly wont be eating today's exercise cals either - i burned nearly 1,500 today!! Wish me luck for weigh day tomorrow! I'm very nervous! Shock

foreverondiet · 05/06/2011 22:11

rg triathlon was great fun, really want to sign up for another event! DH made funny face as it takes up family time, but I think he just meant not every month... trying to decide what next. each bit was hard but fun in a different way. swim hard because hard to see where you are going in the lake. transition 1 was hard as had to run nearly 1km up hill with no shoes still wearing wetsuit to get bike. bike is hard as longest bit but for me hard as i am scared of going downhill fast! and run hard as it was a bit hilly and legs like jelly from bike. but i am very fit Smile so overall fun!

I hope you get big loss - its not TOTM is it???

pasque I have ordered harcombe diet books - seems like combination of low carb/food combining and low GI. Am addicted to diet books!

RGPargy · 05/06/2011 23:03

So glad you had a fantastic day! Sounds like fun, but i dont think it's something that i could do coz i'm rubbish at running and not a strong swimmer! I also dont like going fast downhill coz i am just paranoid that i'll catch my front wheel in something and come flying off lol.

It's not TOTM but i've done so much exercise today and my dinner was quite carby so i am hoping that i dont get water retention and spoil any loss i might have...... Hmm

foreverondiet · 05/06/2011 23:17

yes carby dinner night before weigh in not good!

GeekLove · 06/06/2011 00:06

Well I have stayed away from the tape measure for the 2 weeks but havent dared mount the wii fit - I'll leave that for tomorrow. I have been Shreddig most days and although I am not dieting I am paying more attention to what I eat. I mean 180 cals for a standard bag of crisps is not to be ignored lightly. The same goes for biscuits.

As for my stats I am 5'2" and 154lb.
Mixing imperial and metric...

Waist 79cm 78 cm (-1cm)
Hips 109cm no change
Bust 102cm 101 cm (-1cm)
Thigh 63cm no change
Bicep 34cm 33 cm (-1cm)
Calf 36cm no change

So the tape measure is saying something. Having said that I have been eating a lot of rich food lately what with chritenjng of DS2 and visiting family but have steered clear ( mostly ) of carb rich thj bs and too much sugar. Eating a more normal diet will hopefully speed things up.'I reckon my weight won't have changed but will need to consult the Wii Fit.

RGPargy · 06/06/2011 07:28

6lb lost since my last weigh in two weeks ago!! :o :o :o

RGPargy · 06/06/2011 08:22

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 06/06/2011 08:56

Fucking fantastic RG! Well done! Smile

redderthanred · 06/06/2011 09:14

Rg!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow. thats impressive. i bet you are really pleased. Bloody fantastic!!!! bet you couldnt believe it when you got on the scales - lol. How many times did you get on and off to make sure it still said the same :)

Gibs - all that exercise sounds good, and like you say, thats a huge lifestyle change and something to be really proud of.

Well done forever as well. Thats a fantastic achievement.

Hi to everyone else and good luck for the weigh in.

Ive been feeling a bit crap these last few days and havent really eaten, you know when i used to hear people say they felt like crap and didnt want to eat, id not imagine that at all, becuase id want to eat. But my appitite has deserted me and i had to force myself to eat something yesterday ;( Im sure ill be back to normal ina few days though.

foreverondiet · 06/06/2011 09:25

rg wow well done on the weight loss, thats really amazing, hopefully will give you motivation to continue with your new WOE now you can see some tangible results!

fitflopqueen · 06/06/2011 17:43

Back for an update, a week since I updated, have stayed same weight, but at least not gained and kids back at school now so onwards and downwards.
have eaten sensibly but some extras ie wine & G & T over weekend, need to put the shred DVD on or get on bike. Will get on Bike as sunny here.
Am updating on MFP, my username is the same as here, not sure about settings.
Well done to everyone, keep persevering.

RGPargy · 06/06/2011 21:35

Thanx everyone! I have to say i am really chuffed that all my being good on the food front has paid off this week. I think really tho that the loss has only been this week as i think i weighed myself on Monday last week and was something like 17.8 and last week i wasn't even trying to eat well. This week however (well, since tuesday!) i have been uber good. Just goes to show that it's deffo mostly about food! :o :o

Red - Hope you feel better soon. Are you under the weather or just feeling rubbishy crappy & down?

Fitflop - welcome back and good luck from now on! :o

pasqueflower · 06/06/2011 21:59

Google allaboutyou.com plus harcombe diet to see a version of it. Basically low carb but unlimited amounts of what you are allowed to eat.
Great if you have control over your surroundings but quite restrictve, although it is good to reeducate yourself and cut cravings.
I have hit my target this week with mfp...aiming to lose half a pound a week before holiday next month.

redderthanred · 06/06/2011 22:00

yay RG. Yes. its definatley about food more than exercise. Exercise is good for health and fitness levels and will help tone, and make you strong and more efficient, but on its own it will not lead to weight loss.

Im not ill. Its men! lol They do my head in. Still, im feeling more like myself now, but im bloody hoping to see a good result on the scale tomorrow. caught myself in the mirror yesterday and i can really notice a change happening.. rather fab if i do say so myself.

forever - how you today after the yesterday? knackered? do have to say well done again, thats an amazing achievement in a short space of time, you must be very proud of yourself.

redderthanred · 07/06/2011 07:33

I am in shock. Ive lost 3lbs since saturday, making this weeks total 5lbs.

Which takes me over the stone and a half. woohoo.

Obviously caused by not eating very much sunday and monday, but you know, clouds and silver linings and all that.

My ' have been on a diet for 3 months' is the 15th of this month, i was hoping to have made it to a stone and a half and have now beaten that, which im really pleased about. I wonder what the actual figure will be.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 07/06/2011 08:10

Bloody fantastic red! Very happy for you Smile

foreverondiet · 07/06/2011 09:08

red fantastic, what a result. you really are on a roll with it now, and obviously whatever you are doing is working really well. well done!

rg food definately much more important that exercise when it comes to loosing weight. Of course there are benefits of exercise, eg healthy heart, higher muscle mass, increased metabolism, but I don't think exercise its the key to weight loss.

Re: triathlon no not tired or anything afterwards, because actually was doing almost that much exercise every sunday (and friday), and 2/3 of it on a wed. Going to do olympic distance one next summer!

Tw1nkle · 07/06/2011 09:50

Well done everyone!! Looks like we're getting some good results!!!
I joined MFP 5 days ago, and I'm liking it! It's pretty easy to follow and I've found every food I've looked for so far!!!
(I'm 'Cybes')

bluesteel · 07/06/2011 14:08

Hiya - would you mind if I joined? I have just signed up at MFP and it all feels a bit American at the moment so could do with a few UK friends. I'm embarassingly overweight and need to lose 4st to reach my target so I have a long way to go and could honestly do with some support.

My MFP username is meggymegmegs. I'll add the ones of you that I can find.

foreverondiet · 07/06/2011 14:13

Hi bluesteel I have added you!

bluesteel · 07/06/2011 14:27

Thanks forever, my first MFP friend. Time to get serious now.

In absolute awe of your triathalon.

foreverondiet · 07/06/2011 14:35

bluesteel - Triathlon was just sprint distance, amyone fit could do (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run) have already signed up for another one in september (anyone want to join me?- Windsor, 25th Sept). Save your admiration for when I do an olympic distance (ie double!) one next summer!!!!

TBH I think loosing the weight (3.5 stone) more of an achievement that the triathlon!
