I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

lol - i didnt want a takeaway either. I think two months ago i might have given myself a takeaway as a 'well done' for losing weight. Now, instead, im going to buy shoes :)

They are good responses. thanks. Ill try and say something like this. This time last year i was a stone lighter than i currently am, and has a bmi of 27 and i CONSTANTLY had people telling me i was too thin. or had really thin legs. Clearly i didnt as i was still overweight!! tis madness.

tbh - im not all that looking forward to this meal out either.. i dont really want a cheat meal at all this week, i just dont want to eat those cals. Next week im not going to have one at all because the following weekend im camping for 3 days and tbh ill have no phone so no logging mfp and its going to be a cheat 3 days really isnt it. Even if i dont eat lots of toasted marshmallows and hot choc and bbq's its still going to be way over i think. No getting round it though, so hopefully the no cheat meal next weekend might make some kind of consession for it.

peg - thats a whole lot of cals in one meal. tbh i think id of wailed abit too.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 15/05/2011 10:56

Hi everyone, thanks for the kind messages. I'm feeling a bit better today. We had a fantastic afternoon/night at a friend's last night. Lovely BBQ with lots of healthy options, lots of vodka and the Eurovision Song Contest (not really a highlight but good fun taking the piss when pissed!)

I managed to stay well within my calories for main meals and I got loads of exercise done before we went as I knew my friend had made a chocolate lime cheesecake!

On the way home I saw my dream life - a teashop for sale with a lovely flat and massive garden - but we can't afford it so that got me down again. Oh well, things will take a turn for the better at some point!

I did manage to refuse the pain au chocolat and the croissants for breakfast this morning and stick to fresh strawberries - I can't be all bad if I can manage that! Grin

I'm looking forward to catching you all up and being able to post some whacking great losses soon Smile

foreverondiet · 15/05/2011 12:14

red asked DH why people say that you are thin enough when clearly you are not. He said that he thought that if the person is overweight then its because they are jealous you have the willpower and they do not. If they are thin then its their way of saying, gosh you don't look hugely horribly fat anymore but thats what they are thinking.

other responses:

  • my doctor still thinks i should loose weight
  • i'm feeling great on my diet so don't want to stop now
  • can i help you start a diet too?
GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 15/05/2011 14:56

I forgot to say, this morning I woke up and half of my stomach had disappeared. I weighed myself after lunch (normally weigh 1st thing in the morning before eating, after toilet!) and I've lost half a kg so I think I'm probably 1kg lighter than I was yesterday. So fingers crossed, the majority of the excess was bloating - lovely IBS!! I'll find out for sure when I weigh-in properly tomorrow morning.

foreverondiet · 15/05/2011 17:57

Now I know I am mad - have just signed up for a bootcamp at 6.15 - 7.15am in my local park once a week!!!

redderthanred · 15/05/2011 19:16

yes, yes you are!!!

meal went well. Starter was meat on a bed of salad.. Main was more meat on a bed of veg with sauce, which i did eat but it wasnt a creamy one. Did have dessert :) white chocolate and raspberry creme brule with strawberry ice cream and am amaretto biscuit. All the portions were tiny tiny tiny ( posh restaurant) so im not too worried. had a LARGE glass of wine and a mojito. I was planning on bringing my bit of cake home with me but, due to being a little bit tiddly at lunch time.. i scoffed it :)

bloody lovely it was too!!!

But i actually ate not breakfast or will eat anything else.. so i dont think its going to be too bad at all actually.

Gil - yay!!

forever - if i ask someone if they want help starting a diet i think i might risk being hit with a hangbag or something!! lol.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 15/05/2011 19:19

That meal sounds delicious!

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 15/05/2011 20:28

I admit it I am a weighing addict and weighed myself this morning and have put on 3lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looked all bloaty and flabby and grim last night like I hadn't lost much weight etc etc, then my period arrived today. I am really hoping that that is what the weight gain and bloaty feeling is but am pissed off for tomorrow mornings weigh in as I really wanted to see if I had lost a couple of pounds this week having been mainly good Sad, so if I weigh in tomorrow I might also weigh in at the end of the week and see if there is any difference!

foreverondiet · 15/05/2011 20:51

princess first day of period is not a good time to weigh, so don't get respondent as likely you'll either maintain or gain.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 15/05/2011 21:14

Phew............that is what I thought but was a bit worried - however I did have to factor in some choccie to my daily plan - although I also went for a 4 mile walk with the dog (hooray for me!!!) so I think I might have walked it off!

redderthanred · 15/05/2011 22:06

it was nice.
It was honey and soy glazed chicken thigh ( just the one) on a bed of salad and some spice thing carrots.
then oriental spiced pork medallions ( tiny tiny ones, like one bite each, 3 of them) on braized red cabbage with some sauce i dont remember what.. then i had some broclli and carrots and left the potatoes.

so those were good choices i think.

FIggy - it will just be time of the month bloat i should think, stay away from the scales till its gone :)

RGPargy · 15/05/2011 23:26

Hi everybody!

I'm looking forward to weigh day tomorrow. Not because i think i've lost weight but because i am looking forward to finally getting the weight off. I know we have MFP etc but i feel that this thread is a bit more personal and so i'm hoping it'll spur me on to keep on track!

Takeaways are awful for calories!!! We always have a takeaway on a friday, BUT i always have a chicken skewers kebab with pitta bread and salad, so it's not bad at all i dont think!

Am off to bed now so will catch up properly tomorrow night.

Will see you in the morning for my weigh in tho!

N'night!! :o

redderthanred · 16/05/2011 07:37

Just wanted to say good luck to all those weighing in today :)

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 16/05/2011 08:32

Well, I've put on 2lbs in total but I've lost 2 of the 4lbs I put on over the last couple of weeks. I've lost an inch everywhere off my body except my hips so I'm not too sure how the weight/inches correlate but hey ho, I'm happy to be smaller either way!

MarianH · 16/05/2011 09:02

Can I say a big thank you for this thread. I'd never heard of MFP, but googled it when I saw this. It's great! I am a bit hooked now though... Grin.

So, thanks!

I am 'abbymeg' if anyone wants to be my friend. It feels rather odd writing that.

Good morning everyone, I also would like to nominate myself for hypocrite of the week. All my talk of Zumba and shred came to very little, nothing in fact!! My total exercise for the week was a 2 mile walk/jog yesterday morning. I don't even have an excuse Blush. I also haven't logged for days. On the other hand, I have been watching what I eat and somehow have managed to lose 1lb. Not the 2 I was hoping for but the lack of effort I put in serves me right.

So, here I go

gilbonzo 14s 8lbs(+2lbs) Hips 42(-/+0) Waist 38(-1) Bust 47(-1) Thigh 21(-1)
hairypotter 12s 7lbs loss 1lb total loss 11lbs target 10s7lbs

Havent got tape measure handy so will save that treat until another day Grin

Will def try harder this week, I've been for a walk/jog first thing and Im just back from Zumba so fingers crossed I can keep it up.

Good luck everyone. Hi to newbies btw, have added you both.

I've got 21lbs to lose by the beginning of July, I'm determined to do it!!!

Yesterday I apparently only had 1180 calories but I can't see that its correct, how do you know if its right?!

I'm PebblesAndWine if anyone wants to add me, I have no idea how to add people.......

:)

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 16/05/2011 12:31

Hi Pebbles and Marian Smile

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 16/05/2011 12:35

Oooo I know what it feels like to be a man - I prematurely posted Grin

It's nice to have someone in my hypocritical corner - it makes it not so lonely. We can try and spur each other on this week hairy. I find that sometimes a really shit week is good for me because it gives me a massive boot up the backside when I can see the damage I'm doing.

MarianH · 16/05/2011 12:54

Thanks for being my friend Gil Grin! I have you and a total stranger, so I'm up to 2! Woo! (Just a reminder to everyone, it's 'abbymeg'. Wink)

I think the site is great. I had a good week last week (I joined on Weds), but I feel a bit fed up today so I'm trying not to flag. I must do some exercise. I had a 'rest' day yesterday, and now my knee hurts. I can't work out why, when I'd stopped. Maybe the hideous thigh pain from the Shred was masking it.

My starting weight was 14st. I have done 3 weeks of low GL, caved and weighed myself today (I wasn't suppose to, I'm weak-willed and easily demoralised. It really is any excuse for a pizza). So I've lost 9.5lbs so far (and I am counting the half). So, I'm 13st 4.5lbs. I've got ages to go. I would like to be 10st 5lbs, but would be amazed if that happens. I keep looking at all the very slim, toned ladies on the success stories of MFP, wondering if it could be me. However, I've beaten my recent SW record of joining, going for a week and giving up, which I did about 4 times in the last 2 years.

Must keep going...

PebblesAndWine · 16/05/2011 14:16

Hi Marion, I think I have managed to add you :)

9.5lbs in three weeks is fab! I'd be really pleased with that, sounds like you're doing really well.

I lost 3st 12lbs last year for my 30th birthday holiday, I was so happy when I lost it, it was the tiniest I've been since I had my dd 11 years ago. I've since put a stone and a half back on :( so I'm determined to lose it again!

I weighed myself again after lunch and I've actually lost 5lbs this week! So so pleased.....

Onwards and upwards now!

PebblesAndWine · 16/05/2011 14:18
