Let's start afresh!

Orm - sorry to hear it's not going so well. If it wasn't for the fact that you've clearly done low-carbing before for a long period, I'd say keep going, it will get better, but clearly something has changed.

Are you trying to progress too quickly with the running, perhaps? Fitness levels can diminish really quickly, do you think going back a step and doing some achieveable interval training would help? That's what I had to do after I hurt my knee so had to take a few weeks off - if I tried to run more than my fitness levels allowed, I failed to go the distance, then became demoralised so flunked the next run too etc. etc. Doing (and achieving) a series of easier runs really helped, as often it's my head that tells me to give up, not my legs or lungs. (I know you've run loads in the past so do tell me to sod off if I'm talking rubbish!!).

But if you do start upping the carbs in conjunction with running, you'll doubtless lose weight anyway, and it's daft to persist with a diet that makes you feel rough long-term.

CF - stick with it, it took a while before my weight started to come down (after an initial loss of carb-bloat). Put the scales away, and keep doing those walks!

Anyway, hark at me giving advice after the weekend I've had.....

Back on the wagon today, with greek yogurt/berries/nuts for breakfast, cheese and coleslaw salad for lunch, and chicken thighs stuffed with roule cheese wrapped in parma ham for tea. With loads of green veg and not a bread & butter pudding in sight.

ConstanceFelicity · 04/04/2011 13:41

Thanks ladies. Think I would be on the verge of giving up without this thread. :)

Ormirian · 04/04/2011 13:50

Thanks cv. I am not pushing myself too hard at all! Admittedly I have done 2 longish runs that I knew I wasn't up for but i am running out of steam after a minute or two. And I wasn't thid bad before I started the diet.

Having announced my decision I have eaten a perfect low-carb salad and nothing else Grin But I might try a banana before I run - perhaps.

Hello everyone.

I just wanted to add that I stalled for about 10/14 days and was dreading not seeing any more loss after losing 10lbs really easily.

I caved and decided to try a grapefruit for breakfast, I had one every other day and after 4 days weighed myself and was amazed to see 5lbs off!

fat burner or perhaps coincidence??? Grin

Hi all. Hope you don 't mind me leaping on but have starting low carbs today, and despite my reading, would like a sanity check of diet so far, so that I know I am on the right track...is that ok?

Breakfast: 3 eggs, 2 rashers of bacon. I was stuffed.

Lunch: cheddar cheese salad, with beetroot, celery, mushrooms

Dinner: tuna salad, small bit of mayo, celery, more mushrooms, 3 oatcakes (nairns)

Snacks: celery with peanut butter, few almonds, few pumpkin seeds.

Have also drunk loads of water today.

Does that sound ok?

Have got loads of eggs, bacon, berry fruits, salad, fish, green veg like spinach, broccolli, cauliflower, chicken, ham, salami in.

I read somewhere that bran is good, so intend to have All Bran for brekkie on a few mornings a week.

Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Bloss

x

TheGoddessBlossom · 04/04/2011 20:29

ok cool. thanks. When I check the packet, what sort of carb numbers are ok?

TheGoddessBlossom · 04/04/2011 20:32

and also - is strict induction necessary if you are looking to lose lots of weight? If you are not, are the things you suggest I cut out at first above, ok to eat? What i want to avoid is massively up my intake of fats (usually eat a very low fat diet) but eat the wrong things with them and end up gaining!

Thanks,

Bloss

ConstanceFelicity · 04/04/2011 22:23

Today I had
A ham and chicken salad.
An apple.
A roast dinner (no potatoes)
A few dried apple rings.

Went out tonight and there was a plate of fantastic biscuits on the table. Resisted.

HELLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

last week i had a low carb charlie sheen moment. it felt good at the time, but looking back i knew the blueberry and lemon danish were whores and didn't really love me.

yesterday i decided to go back on the wagon and i have prepared 6 pie dishes of shepherd pie - with celeriac topping. and i have frozen them to make light work of meals.

i am going to make some more - only make chicken pie, the chicken pie is bloody lovely., i will do that today becuase it's meant to rain here later.

catinboots · 05/04/2011 07:49

When you're making low carb shepherds pies and stews etc., what do you use to make the gravy-ey bit? Stock cubes?? Are they carby??

Tortington · 05/04/2011 09:34

for chicken i use chicken stock cubes - if you think about it, the portion you are going to eat isn't that much - and you don't want it all soupy, so i guestimate its no more than two carbs per portion.

however for shep pies - i don't know about beef stock. you see i don't like it so i use 1/2 can tomatoes instead, i reckon its shed loads LESS carbs than tomatoes though

Cauliflower is my new best friend - tried cauli rice with curry last night. Only problem was that after eating it I realised that the aubergine curry I'd defrosted from the freezer was made before the new lc regime and also had potato in....

And when calculating the weekend I somehow totally forgot the huge slab of chocolate cake I'd had (somehow mentally it didn't count as was birthday cake and rude not to?!)

(heaves self back onto wagon)

Cf all good except easy on the apples - would try a non-fruit snack like celery/cucumber/peppers with hummous, eggs (unless also having for breakfast or you'll get bunged up!), chicken legs, cheese.

CointreauVersial · 05/04/2011 13:08

LOL at Custy Sheen! Those danishes are just baaaad. You sound very domestic goddessy today, though.

Sarra - I'm a big fan of cauli rice, but can't get DH to eat it unfortunately. I might try freezing the cauliflower in bags once I've whizzed it in the processor, as it's such a performance lugging the damn Magimix out of the cupboard and washing it up afterwards just for one portion.

Just had another cheese salad and coleslaw at my desk, very nice it was too. Dinner will be leftover low-carb moussaka and stirfry cabbage.

I had a great run this morning - I had one of those "Run, Forrest, Run!" moments as I approached the house, and kept going for another little circuit! Doesn't happen very often, unfortunately....

ExitPursuedByALamb · 05/04/2011 13:12

Very disheartened today. Been really good for days and days, but have put 4lbs on! Will I really have to give up the wine [sob]

ConstanceFelicity · 05/04/2011 13:53

I am already having a difficult week. Am craaaaaaaving everything sugary and carby. I would have killed for a bowl of fruit and fibre this morning; I wanted to spoon peanut butter ditectly into my mouth at lunchtime; I want hot buttered toast, towers of it. Haven't succumbed yet, and not planning to... Have an anniversary curry planned for weekend, and am doing a cake stall next week, and I know I have to save up all the badness for those things!

Bohica · 05/04/2011 13:59

Just a few questions!!

Is green tea ok?
What's cauli rice?
How do you make moussaka lc?

I've had a slice of corned beef, lettuce & yellow pickle today, not the best lunch I bet but I need to go shopping.

Having bacon & omelette for dinner, can't wait because I'm really hungry.

Megglevache · 05/04/2011 14:26

Bloss I wouldn't do the oatcakes either if you're after crunchy textures maybe try some parmesan crisps??

Sounds yum.

Ormirian · 05/04/2011 15:52

Hello from the lapsed one Grin

I won't tell you what I've been eating in case you are jealous Wink

Actually I am being very moderate. Still basically lowish carb but lower fat than before - ie I am not cooking in lashings of butter and eating tonnes of greek yoghurt. Keeping the portions small as that is my main sin.

Had half a banana 30 mins before my run yesterday and whether it was psychological or not I did much better. We'll see.

Nothing gone on on the scales yet.
