Let's start afresh!

OP posts:
BibiBlocksberg · 27/04/2011 22:22

natch, cabbage, not cabbave of course!

Poodlehorse · 27/04/2011 22:26

Timba- glad you felt inspired by the steak. I just find I eat it a lot as I have no imagination and it is so quick and easy but we are rather programmed to think steak + chips so I have to go out of my way to make whatever I am having as flavoursome as possible but still be quick and simple. I am loving the nut butter and apple, I did peanut butter and apple as a quick snack last year but haven't ventured into alternative nut butters in a very long time. Today has been busy, I was out for coffee with no chance of a suitable snack on offer so I made sure I had breakfast even though it had to be quick, I ended up hardboiling eggs and making an eggmayo salad and scoffing that out of the bowl just before I went. That was at 9.30am and at 1pm I realised I should eat but I wasn't hungry. So I didn't and then ended up missing the opportunity as I nipped out (to get more eggs from my neighbour down the road) and going straight from there to pick up DS and go swimming, by the time I finished that and went past my mum's and got stuck in gridlock I did go to the Indian for tea. It was gone 6 and by then I was not in the mood to cook. I only had a mild curry though so I took no rice/bread and I am like a burst couch. How do I manage to pack in rice normally? would have liked my usual hot one but I don't think I could eat it riceless/naanless. SO not a perfect day but so what, this has got to fit in with real life and things happen. Agree this is easier to do in summer, no accident I am finding my mojo again almost exactly a year to when I started LC the first time, boy it has been a long winter.
CF, what did youput in your truly lovely anchovy salad? I love anchovies and am always keen on finding new uses for them. Somehow they and capers just make everything taste yum. I did have a bit of an addiction to mayo with a wee bit of garlic oil and a load of capers added as a little bit of a different accompaniement to grilled meat when I couldn't think what else to serve it with. I think I might have added anchovies to that a few times too. L-U-S-H. Oh and welcome bibi

Poodlehorse · 27/04/2011 22:27

oops apolgies for bolding gone a bit mad, not sure what happened there.

Poodlehorse · 27/04/2011 23:01

I dont know that my appetite increases as such but I think I tend to pig out the first week at least, as if I am psyching out the theory you can eat without weighing etc. And then it settles down into "normal" portions on the whole. Also I think when I start any diet I tend to obsess slightly about what I am going to be eating next and all the planning (essential) makes you think about very little else so maybe that is why I feel I need to eat more at that stage. At least there is always something tasty you can eat lowcarbing. Now I know you have filled your tummy with food but could you be thirsty? That is all I can think of sorry. HAving seen how long my egg salad lasted today I am going to make up some to have in the fridge for munchy moments.

BibiBlocksberg · 28/04/2011 01:20

Could well be not enough water Poodlehorse, I'm chronic for not drinking enough at the best of times.

Thank god for eggs too, happened to have a couple already hard boiled from a couple of nights ago.

Those combined with some mayo seems to have quitened things down for now - thanks very much for the advice :)

Poodlehorse · 28/04/2011 08:47

I always think I drink plenty when low carbing as I increase my intake but I still think it is not enough often. Probably it goes up to what should be normal, I am off to have a big glass of water now actually as I actually feel thirsty this morning so I must be quite deydrated I think. Woke at 5.30 and couldn't get back to sleep and dicked about in the iPad but since DH isn't here at the mo I should have just shoved the TV on and done my yoga and got that out of the way. Cross with myself for having just read the news and playing Angry Birds instead, and thus sums up my attitude to life, basically lazy.

ConstanceFelicity · 28/04/2011 09:24

The anchovy salad was lovely. I bought them quite cheap in the fresh section at Morrissons. I mixed some lettuce, cabbage, cherry toms, toasted pumpkin seeds, red onion and celery with a bit of low fat dressing, then arranged the anchovies artufully Wink on top. Yuuuuum.

I know this is naughty, but I have tea or coffee with a miniscule amount of milk to stave off hunger pangs. It really works, and though I should keep away from caffeine, I find that if I don't have it I stuff my face far more.

Sarraburd · 28/04/2011 09:53

Welcome Bibi! And yes you need to drink lots of water.

Poodle yes eggs are a good start for the day and fill you up for ages, but also can bung you up so don't OD!

Ditto lol cf at the squirreled dh wrapper! And yes please can we have the anchovy salad recipe!

Yesterday
Greek yog with flaxseed and spoon of tahini and some agave syrup (I know the tahini sounds a bit weird but it's really delicious) (CV you should try this one with your PB fetish!)

Lunch leftover lentil, red pepper and goats cheese salad with some tomato and olives added in to bulk out a bit

Snacks leftover chicken leg from yesterday, bit of cheese with oatcake, some of the dcs supper meatballs

Dinner chicken marinaded in mustard, lemon, paprika and garlic, then just baked in oven in the marinade. With garlicky French beans and green salad

Liking the idea of anchovies with the steak...feel a steak craving coming on but already bought tonight's supper (salmon) and then are away for weekend, bah. Steak steak steak!

Sarraburd · 28/04/2011 09:58

Oops forgot to refresh before posting...thanks cf for recipe! Sounds great, will try

Sarraburd · 28/04/2011 09:59

Thanks sal will have a look :-)

Poodle - totally agree it has to fit in with real life - so I don't do it tooo strictly, and with a few lapses here and there - so I don't go intoketosis (well I've never checked, but assume not...the lapses are too frequent!) but still lose a pound or two a week (esp if exercising) - as protein more filling that carbs so you still eat less overall - which is fast enough for me, and it stays off too, yay!

Eggs spinach mushrooms for breakfast and sardine tomato olive caper egg salad for lunch as craving anchovies after all that talk of anchovies but none in house.

CointreauVersial · 28/04/2011 13:25

Hi all, just finished my smoked salmon salad for lunch.

Yesterday (funeral) was the expected carb-fest, but I was greatly cheered by the number of people (including hot ex-BF) saying how slim and svelte I was looking. I think hot ex-BF is now feeling a twinge of regret (OK, wishful thinking, we did split up about 16 years ago, and he has lived in the US ever since, but hey, he's still single Wink Grin).

Sarraburd · 28/04/2011 14:10

Well done CV! V satisfying :-) Nothing better than compliments from the ex. Hmm better not let dh see this thread...

Wow that salad was goooood - sort of sardine nicsoise with lettuce instead of beans. Thanks cf for the inspiration!

Poodlehorse · 28/04/2011 15:02

ooh gonna do that salad soon. and CV I am sure hot ex was indeed regretting his lot. My friend said a few weeks ago "you lost shitloads last year" and I know how chuffed I was she had actually noticed. Of course I had by then out most of it back on [chmm] and so I am not sure the implication wasn't "you have let yourself go again fat porker".
Right off to figure out what needs using up most for dinner.

BibiBlocksberg · 28/04/2011 20:55

Well, i don't mind admitting I was more than a little bit sceptical about using cauliflower as a rice substitute

BUT :)

I've just made beef stirfry with egg fried rice cauliflower and it was absolutely delicious Grin

So impressed with myself i had to come on here and brag report :)

ConstanceFelicity · 28/04/2011 22:06

Been a bit crap today. The right things but too much of them.

Anchovy salad
Grapes
Then I made a roast for the family and had roast chicken salad myself, but I had some stuffing, which I think kick-started my appetite... I then picked loads of the chicken. Feel a bit overfull and fat now.

Going away tomorrow for a few days, am going to try to behave but may allow myself a glass of wine...
Glad this thread is getting pacier, it's really keeping me going!

Sarraburd · 28/04/2011 22:27

Poodle - just reread your morning post - dont stress; put the not doing Yoga in the Box (was in last thread alot - visualization guilt-freeing thing to stop yourself then falling off wagon - basically, forget about it and move on)

Personally if I wake early (and too often do; borderline insomniac) I am somehow too tired to exercise. And if i do exercise, it somehow isn't that successful - last time I went running on early start was all dizzy and pathetic and managed half of what I'd do usually. So don't beat yourself up too much.

Didn't have salmon in end as made a vat
Load of ratatouille for camping this weekend and couldn't them be bothered to cook again donate ratatouille and vg too. Snack oatcakes
With cheese and marmite. Mmm marmite! Enjoying the saltier tastes today.

Sarraburd · 28/04/2011 22:31

So ate ratatouille. Bloody spacebar too close to n and then autocorrect does the rest (outing myself as prat, do mumsnet on smartphone. Which means loads of typos and also somehow doesn't allow emoticons so apologies for rather tedious litterings of apostrophes in my posts...

Sarraburd · 29/04/2011 06:26

Damn. Let DS1 stand on the scales yesterday after me and he must've jumped on them or something as they are telling me I've lost ten pounds overnight...much as I'd love that to be the case I guess I will have to wonder at whether I've lost the holiday weight (had quarter of a pound to go) until I can work out how to fix (electric though) or get new. Bah.

Poodlehorse · 29/04/2011 13:18

Ooh bad bad bad , have had a bottle of prosecco already, it's a royal wedding don't you know!

Timbachick · 29/04/2011 14:28

Yummy apple and nut butter for breakfast. [cgrin]

Extra Yummy bacon and avocado for lunch. [cgrin][cgrin]

Uber Yummy homemade lamb burgers with stir fried veggies for dinner tonight. [cgrin][cgrin][cgrin]

Poodle - enjoy the prosecco [csmile]

Pekkala · 29/04/2011 18:08

Sorry to butt in - but does anyone know of any low carb beers in the UK? I've just got back from hols in Australia where lo-carbing seems to be much more established and I had a bottle or three of 'Hahn Super Dry' beer which was LUVVERLY and only 3 carbs a bottle.
(...It is a shame that there were not lo-carb versions of TimTams or Cherry Ripes as I ate my own body weight in them and have put on 5lb......Shock)

Pekkala · 29/04/2011 18:25

OK, by the Power of Google I've answered my own question - Marston's Resolution is 1.65g/275ml and Michelob Ultra is 2.5g/330ml. Anyone tried these?

olismum23 · 29/04/2011 18:28
