Nevergoogle - don't forget to take food, maybe? Wink

It seems unlikely that you would still need to be eating 20 hours later to refuel. But I'm not a doctor! Don't limit your exercise, it's making you happy, there has to be a way to sort this. Maybe carb load a bit before (try and make yourself really want the carbs and eat them consciously?!) and then make sure there is a decent meal prepared afterwards. I remember from my half marathon training that I needed to make myself eat enough directly afterwards to an extent as I would just have loads of fluids and then go to bed. Maybe you need to 'dose' yourself with fuel? I will think more on this.

I do think it is better to be fit and a bit overweight than the other way round. But I can in no way back that up. Sure I read it somewhere though!

nevergoogle · 03/03/2011 18:24

i know, i think if i'd taken a banana and a cereal bar I would have been fine.
no muscle ache, just feeling nicely beasted.
i ran my fuel tank to empty.

JuicyOlive · 03/03/2011 18:31

beasted?

bloomingnora · 03/03/2011 18:33

Maybe you need a fuel warning light?! Make some flapjack and stuff it full of nuts and seeds and dried fruit. Oatcakes are also good and portable. Well done on the 15 miles though, that's fantastic. I must go for a run sometime very soon....

nevergoogle · 03/03/2011 19:16

to beast!

? vb

  1. military slang , slang chiefly ( Brit ) ( tr ) to punish or torture (someone) in a manner that involves excessive physical exercise

imagine my relief at finding this definition. thought for a moment i'd made it up.

JuicyOlive · 03/03/2011 19:24

OK - new one on me. Something I don't do v much! Blush

JuicyOlive · 03/03/2011 19:25

just putting candles on DS's birthday cake and licking the choc off the edge. Come and slap me someone.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 19:57

Nevergoogle - you are going into ketosis - it actually reduces your ability to make rational decisions. You need to find a food which is portable with both protein and carbs in - I know cheese sandwiches are the last thing you want to eat on the run but they are quite good - cheesy oatcakes do it for me when I do major aerobic activity for other four hours.

blinder - did you consider 1st of April this year or next when setting that goal Wink - seriously that sounds fine but you will go at the right speed for you. For me, it's nothing to drop a stone, but then the rest takes a while. Which for those of you with this face Envy is good but think of it like this I'm doing exactly the same now as two weeks ago but it takes five times as long to achieve the same and see if you still have that face! Wink But as I said, it'll come. I will weigh 125 pounds by June. I just hope I don't have to cut off an appendage to get there Grin

JuicyOlive - unless you are actually sitting down you should not be eating chocolate icing because you can't enjoy it like that and certainly not chew it. PUT IT DOWN and do what you really want to do (cup of tea perhaps?) :)

Oh and I nearly forgot Always yes he did actually. He did say to me that he liked fat women because they have lower standards (if it makes you feel better I did wallop him for saying this).

The irony of this is that he could have done with actually losing some weight himself and is now much fatter. Maybe I'll have to turn him on to PM. Except I don't want him invading the thread and flirting with you lot. Grin

Also Nevergoogle are you drinking enough when you are exercising? That pit feeling you get when you've gone beyond your limits is only made worse if you are dehydrated. Ooh try chocolate milkshake! Protein and carbs and water. Result!

OP posts:
nevergoogle · 03/03/2011 20:02

i usually take powerbars which are protein and carbs.
and bananas and sometimes peanuts.
or peanut m&ms, yum.

nevergoogle · 03/03/2011 20:03

yes, lots of water.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 20:07

Bananas? You could be bottoming out your potassium if you are burning a lot of calories in one go. Powerbars are good but take a while to get into your bloodstream don't they? Perhaps you need to stop earlier and have a snack (ie half an hour in?)

OP posts:
nevergoogle · 03/03/2011 20:44

say what? bottoming out my potassium??
this sounds bad.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 20:47

You are making me remember my nutrition classes now Shock

I think if you deplete your body's supply of potassium it is very bad for you. Not long term bad, short term bad.

www.nutritional-supplement-educational-centre.com/symptoms-of-low-potassium.html This page has some info on what happens if your potassium goes too low. Bananas are your friend here. How would a banana milkshake go down with you, with a flapjack?

OP posts:
nevergoogle · 03/03/2011 21:05

i think my usual sports drink powder has all the stuff in it i need. i'm usually much more sensible y'see.
got it wrong yesterday.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 21:13

Ah, well just put it down to experience and go prepared next time :)

You are doing great on the exercise front - my arse hurts today. I sat on the floor earlier changing DS and realised I was actually in quite a lot of pain Blush so took some drugs.

Hi all, things are going ok here I think, my main problem I am finding though is that I just cannot manage to listen to the CD in the evening - was listening when going to bed, but I started getting really restless, crampy legs, and now have been getting the same every night, just cannot relax at all. Have been listening to the end but I am jut figeting and wriggling throughout, and it just seems to go on forever, even though I know its only 30 mins!

Just do not know what is up with me!

Apart from that, I am still eating slowly, evenings are fine, but I find breakfast and sometimes lunch is a mad rush, I am eating breakfast just because I think I should - I a not actually hungry before I leave the house, but if I don't eat it then, the next time I can eat could be as much as 3hrs later! SO kind of feel I should, plus by then I am ravenous - bit like you nevergoogle, I get all shaky and faint feeling by then, and end up eating any crap offered - and there are always biscuits and cakes on offer in the staffroom.
Maybe I will make some of those lovely flapjacks, suppose I could take those with me - still wouldn't be eating slowly then though, as would be cramming it in between lessons.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 21:48

Could you listen to the CDs in the morning? Or perhaps after dinner when you are feeling pretty knackered chilled? :)

Re breakfast, could you perhaps eat instant porridge at work mid morning instead? If you have time for a cup of coffee you have time to eat some porridge?

OP posts:
BsshBossh · 03/03/2011 21:49

I may be completely off message here, missmakesstuff, but I don't care: If you know the risk is overeating later in the morning because you're ravenous then do what you have to do: eat breakfast even if you don't feel like it. Simple.

Ditto nevergoogle: Fuel up before exercising.

It just makes sense.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 21:49

Also, do you think the reason you are getting twitchy is that you are resistant to it because you think it won't work? It may not be the best track for you as well. Do you only have the book CD?

OP posts:
bloomingnora · 03/03/2011 21:57

Why not eat breakfast when you get to work? I used to take a tub of muesli and a bit of milk. It might mean you are at least a bit hungry.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/03/2011 22:04

You can actually buy (from Lakeland - where else Wink) a special tub which has a reservoir for milk and a bit for cereal.

OP posts:
missmakesstuff · 03/03/2011 22:51

Those are all great ideas, I have just made porridge for myself, as I have a free lesson first thing, know i can eat it then. Its just busy days when it all goes to pot, have two of those a week. Like the lakeland pot thingy, sounds good! Currently using an old soup container!

I really don't know why I am twitchy - I have been listening to the CD from the book since xmas, have lost half a stone already, so I don't think it's self sabotage or anything! I just cannot relax.

Mind you have just been thinking about it - and since getting home from work, haven't actually stopped for 3 hrs apart from being on here, and in between have been washing, sorting laundry, getting stuff ready for work, answering emails, tidying up...finally have actually sat down. will go to bed in a minute - I just don't wind down properly I think, hence am just taking ages to relax. Will try listening earlier in the evening - or going to bed earlier! But then I find DH disturbs me when he comes to bed.

Will make myself listen to it for 30mins tom evening I think. Mornings are useless, cannot get motivated to do more than get up and showered and dressed then out the door, don't think I can use precious sleeping time listening to it then!
