New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

Sal - very well done starting Couch to 5k!! I did it last summer, having never run before, and I still do three runs a week (only 20 minutes or so, that's all I have time for) - I get up in the morning 30 minutes early so I'm home again before DH leaves for work. It definitely helped the weight loss and toned everything up.

Get yourself some proper kit if you keep it up, though. You don't want two black eyes. Grin

Anyway, DH came home early today and we had a good old pancake session, absolutely yummy, I have no guilt, but back on the wagon tomorrow.

CointreauVersial · 08/03/2011 22:37

Sal, did you do the full five-minute brisk warm-up and cool down walks? I didn't ache at all, which added to the general amazingness of the whole programme.

Stick rigidly to the programme and take it really slowly. Don't go miles or try speeding up - the stamina comes later. That way you won't ache at all or get put off. (I avoid hills too, hate them! Not easy if you live in a village called x-on-the-Hill!)

I have no idea how far I ran first time, I just did it based on timing, using a podcast to start/stop the running intervals. Let me know if you want me to send some links.

I'm quite evangelical about it actually; I posted for most of last year on a C 2 5K thread on MN and got amazing support!

Anyway, laptop battery about to die, so I'm off to bed. Night night.

I am 10 4.75 this morning - nearly 3 lbs done. WTF?

That's my second lowest weight since starting this WoE. Bizarre that it coincides with a carb blow out. Must be the reversal of PMT, I reckon. Will see if it sticks. I am not convinced!

Feeling bloated this morning which makes it easier to get back on the wagon. I really don't think I could go back to eating the way I previously did. This seems to suit me so much better.

I am considering starting running or cycling more soon; haven't quite got there yet. But having my third pilates class on friday which is good. I third the good sports bra. I see loads of girls running near home and want to stop them and tell them to get a bra. It must hurt!

Ormirian · 09/03/2011 10:00

Unless you ran too far and too fast for your fitness you shouldn't be in too much pain tomorrow. Running is just using muscles you use anyway when you walk. If you are in severe pain tomorrow perhaps you need to reduce the distances you run and increase slowly. I've only really suffered when I've pushed myself too hard.

Don't run again until tomorrow - two days in a row isn't a good idea.

It's lovely to run with your kids. I am going to encourage DS1 to come with me - when I was doing 13 miles at weekends and 6 during the week the kids couldn't keep up and had to come on their bikes Grin But now I am so unfit and really struggling an arthritic snail could manage!

Don't forget to drink water when you get back! It's essential and it's easy to forget.

Get a good sports bra and if you are going to carry on long-term invest in some good shoes - I've found my perfect pair now after years of some dodgy ones!

MP3 player essential if you are going to run alone.

Have fun!

I am feeling a bit blue that I am struggling so much - it was something I LOVED last year before my injuries but I'll get there even if it takes all summer.

Exercise. Must work out how to fit more of it in. One of the absolute best things about this diet is the way I go from being spatchcocked to the sofa, to actually enjoying feeling my muscles working when I go upstairs / play with kids / garden. It must be something to do with the insulin / glucagon balance, my muscles are getting the right sort of fuel. Makes me actually want to get more exercise - amazing. I love the idea of couch to 5k but think brisk lunchtime walks are going to be easier for me to fit in right now ...

Ormirian · 09/03/2011 10:01

Just read about the hill! Can you avoid those to start with? That is more likely to damage you than flat running.

Sal - here's a link to Robert Ullrey's podcasts - he's irritatingly Californian, and the music is a bit new-age techno, but he was my favourite.

Or there's Suz, who's a bit hip-hop but sounds like she's been sniffing helium.

There's also the sensible NHS ones, which I've never used.

It depends what type of music floats your boat. But the podcasts are great because there's no looking at watches, you just do what the voice inside your head tells you (and no, I don't mean the one that says "eat cake, eat cake" Grin)!

Ormirian · 09/03/2011 15:14

Well I've downloaded it too! Grin I need some help getting started again.

FreeButtonBee · 09/03/2011 16:33

Oh there is also one for the Iphone which lets you overlay the timings on your own music. c25kapp.com/

Pork Scratchings!! What a fantastic idea; I'm off to Tesco right now.

Good to hear you enjoyed your second run. You shouldn't feel like you want to die (not yet, at least)!

Today I have eaten:

Breakfast - fruit, greek yogurt and nuts
Lunch - Chicken soup, with cubes of salami and cheese on the side
Tea - Mexican Chicken Fajitas (chicken cooked with small amount of tomato and some chili powder) with grated cheese, sour cream and lettuce. DCs had tortillas, I had cauli rice.

Tomorrow we have friends over for a takeaway curry. I've not had one for ages, so I don't know how easy it will be to start low-carb, but I'll do my best!

Tortington · 10/03/2011 00:46

Hello everyone

well my stall has developed into a 4lb weight gain Shock

I have no idea why this is not working Sad my head is screaming BINGE! well if the diet is'nt working then why not?

To make matters worse DH weighed straight after me and he is 4lbs lighter than he was a year ago. This means he has lost loads as he was at his lowest in march last year and had gained alot throughout last year due to not being able to exercise following an injury.

I am chuffed he has found something that is helping him but it makes it even harder seeing as I started weeks before him and I am getting nowhere.

I do not want to ditch low carbing as I like not being a ravenous beast constantly craving carbs but how do I get this weight shifted? BMI has just tipped over 30 and this is where I always get stuck.

So those that have got through similar please help
