I have just joined!

Am not sure how to rate the exercise though, ie -Shredding. I wonder what that would come under.

Also, I am trying to work out the weight of the food I eat so it is honest.

Good luck with this Flo! Grin

Lucifera · 17/01/2011 09:42

I did it the year before last and it was great, I went down to - actually well below - my original target weight. But guess what - over the last year I put it all back on! However, I am now trying again. I found logging all the food a total faff, but I do think it's a sensible system as it's not about meal-replacement or low-this and high-that. Would be good to do mutual support on MN! How much do you two want to lose and how fast? I'm aiming for a stone, one pound a week.

Flojo1979 · 17/01/2011 12:02

Hi
Yes it does seem a total faff trying to find all the foods to log and trying to get the weights something like.
I'm trying to lose 2 stone at one lb per week
It says mid july ish i think. Tho this is just day 1, so long way to go!!
So hungry now tho, not sure what to have, might have something good now and then try not to eat the rest of the day, i've nothing else planned with the day so if i feel sluggish then it dont matter.
Gonna try get motivated and do some exercise too.

Although not recommended on FF, I find it easier if I try to have a couple of days at the start when I eat much less than usual, then my stomach doesn't expect so much and I don't get so hungry. And I eat more fruit and have more cups of tea etc. When I did FF before, I almost never kept within the calorie limit, it seemed impossible! I think the main help to me in using it was getting more aware of portion sizes, I tend to pile my plate up!
good luck FloJo, see you later!

Flojo1979 · 17/01/2011 19:06

I'm well within my calorie count today, as i had a big lunch and dont plan to have nothing but a cuppa in a mo'
I also did 15 mins on the wii fit and it nearly killed me!! Was very disappointed to see it only burnt off 96 cals (less than a cup of tea!!) but its all gotta help!

Flojo1979 · 17/01/2011 21:15

Bugger, well and truelly failed today, not a good start to the diet but heres to tomorrow!

OP posts:
Lucifera · 18/01/2011 12:52

how are you doing today Flo? I just logged last night's supper and today's breakfast and lunch. Was within limits yesterday but only have 300 and something cals left for dinner so doubt I'll manage! I guess you must be quite limited if you're trying to lose 2lb a week but if you're exercising you might shift it more easily than you think.

Flojo1979 · 18/01/2011 18:15

No i'm just doing the 1 lb a wk one but with chocolate flapjack for snack and cheesy quiche for lunch, I've no cals left for tonight so i'm just gonna have to push it this time and try not to have anything other than a brew.

OP posts:
Menagerie · 18/01/2011 18:55

96 cals = less than a cup of tea, Flo? What do you put in your tea - cream and sugar and marshmallow floats? I thought a cup of tea was 20 cals if made with semi skimmed milk. Am I wrong?

Flojo1979 · 18/01/2011 19:43

Yes its 121 cals, cup of tea, semi milk and 1 sugar, tea with semi milk is about 90 cals i think.

OP posts:
Flojo1979 · 18/01/2011 19:44

Grin at marshmallows, i wish!!

OP posts:
Lucifera · 19/01/2011 09:14

blimey, I don't even count my cups of tea!

peanutsmuggler · 19/01/2011 16:00

Wow really! 121 cals in a cuppa. I thought it would only be 50-60.

I'd rather have a bar of chocolate a day instead of my morning cup of tea.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 19/01/2011 16:02

I use myfitnesspal, but its the same thing so I will join you all, I have been doing the EA fitness thing on the Xbox everynight, its 20 min workouts and burns about 130 cals a time.

I will start tomorrow, today has been crazy and I bunged a creamy chicken pasta on the hob!

Flojo1979 · 19/01/2011 20:00

ha, I have lots of lazy days. I'm not eating diet food as such, I'm just trying to cut out the snacks inbetween. Especially my usually evening snacking habits, hence why i'm here now, upstairs, away from the kitchen!
Not done much exercise as yet but intending to do at least the 15 wii fit every day but dont seem to find the motivation for that most days. I'm just trying to do bits, keeping on the move.
Does the myfitnesspal have target weights and expected timescale etc?
If so, how much u trying u lose and in what time?

ive signed up for this too,am on 1200 calories a day :(
have managed a week so far,and am finding it ok,although it would be better if you could simply add an amount of calories on - if you have eaten something thats not listed - instead of having to put the complete nutritional info in.
(maybe there is a way and ive just not found it yet)
havent done any exercise this week as i have totally done my back in and can hardly walk am hoping this will get better soon though :(

need to weigh myself tomorrow and see how i've done!

Flojo1979 · 20/01/2011 09:28

Well done for managing a wk, usually the hardest wk i think. I'm borderline, some days def over than under!
I'm allowed 1,300 cals a day, depending if i exercise!
Gonna to try limiting the cuppas as well and increase water intake - urghhhh!
Let me know how u get on at weigh in, be interested to see if it works, i've a few more days before i hop on.

Hi everyone! Have been watching this thread for a few days and am going to join FF as soon as my scales arrive (should be today or tomorrow).

I've never done anything like this before because I have always been really active and kept to a size 12. Since having ds and depression for a year or so after (he's nearly 2) though, I've shot up to a 16/18. I'm absolutely dreading finding out how much I actually weigh, have always avoided it.

I was doing the Shred DVD (still do sporadically and will get back into it) and loosing inches but I just feel that new eating habits and getting back to a healthy BMI is more important to me and I need to focus on that first.

My biggest food issues are carbs and portion sizes so I've also ordered a portion plate (this, if you're interested) to help me realise what I should be eating. Have already started trying to have more veg than carbs on my plate at dinner, missing my big bowls of pasta already!!

Flojo1979 · 20/01/2011 11:29

Hi
I've never tried the Shred DVD, do u recommend it then? I tend to lose interest in DVDs very quickly, and seem to struggle to find motivation just to do 15 min Wii workout at min!
I'm like u, eat way too many carbs, i think a trip to the supermarket is in order to stock up on salad items rather than pastas and bread.
Struggling with meal ideas, as i tend to eat pasta's (spag bol etc) or rice meals (curries/chilli etc) and if i'm being lazy, breaded fish, oven chips, supernoodles etc.
So any recommendations much appreciated!

My scales arrived and I have registered with FF, it's painful:

Weight - 14st 6lbs
BMI - 33.6(!)
Target weight - 10st
Target BMI - 23.3

Target cals - 1680

(Am really embarrassed writing it all here but am not going to let myself cheat. Also I thought I'd possibly make you feel better about yourselves! Grin)

Shred is great because you can feel the change within a week or two which is a good motivator - I lost 6inches off my waist and hips (collectively) in two weeks and they still feel a lot firmer even though I'm not doing it regularly. It's only 20mins long aswell so it's really easy to fit it in your day.

Your meals sound exactly the same as mine!
Did some chicken kebabs last night which were nice and easy, just chicken marinated in a Nandos marinade [lazy], red pepper and onion on skewers under the grill. I did garlic mushrooms and corn on the cob with it, was very nice.
Am a fiend for tuna pasta bake and will just eat a huge bowl of it. So have started putting it on a plate with roast veg (mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes - mixed herbs and garlic for extra flavour). I really need more ideas though, I still want to enjoy food otherwise I'll never stick to it.

sazm · 20/01/2011 14:54

could be worse nickname, just think of me on 1200 cals a day lol,it will keep u going.

i bought myself an exercise bike, but its not made it out the box yet due to the fact i've hurt my back and cant even move the box never mind build it,
going to mums to weigh myself tomorrow,(she has fancy scales lol) so will see how i got on then.
next weeks goal is to at least build the bike!!(the following week it will be to use it!!!)

Flojo1979 · 20/01/2011 21:51

Hi nickname, chicken sounds good i'm gonna get some nandos sauce and give it a try, i've just had the recipe books out but they all sound so fiddly and use ingredients i cant even pronounce! But got a couple of fish things i'm going to try with veg. Had a successful day today, hence why i'm on here now, cos i'm soooo hungry!! But i'm determined not to eat. I'm a 1000 cals under today woohoo and still had dessert!

OP posts:
Flojo1979 · 20/01/2011 21:53

Hey Sazm
Bikes def aint good for bad backs, i remember that from a distant memory of a time when i used to workout and do spinning classes!
I bought one once with the vision of watching corrie whilst peddling but it didnt quite work out, the novelty wore off after then first three mins! Bit like the Wii fit!

OP posts:
sazm · 20/01/2011 22:18

lol flo, i will prob be the same with it lol,

my plan was to go for a walk in the mornings, but its the siatic nerve in my back im having problems with,i can be walking along and my leg goes numb and i cant lean any weight on it - hence the thinking behind the bike in the house:(
am hoping once i have lost a bit of weight it may improve.

NicknameInUse · 21/01/2011 09:30

Oh sazm, I'm so glad I have as many cals as I do - the only bonus of being way too overweight! Grin
Was under by nearly 500 though, after excercise.

Sazm, I know how frustrating it is not being able to excercise because of an injury, I have really shitty knees that keep on getting in the way of my excercise - it's so disheartening isn't it? Hoping that as I loose weight and strengthen them they'll improve though. Really hope you back gets better soon, it sounds horrible!

Gosh Flo, 1000 is a lot! Don't mean to sound like a Doctor or anything but maybe you should try eating more, your target cals are already way below the standard guidlines. It's not really maintainable to eat so little and as soon as you start eating more you'll put weight back on and then feel crap about yourself. Hope you don't mind me saying! Blush

I really need to eat more fish, any chance of sharing the recipies?

Also, a FF related question, does anyone know what to put sit ups, lunges and squats with weights etc as on the excercise log? I put them down as 'Health club, general' (I think that's what it said) yesterday, not sure if that's right.
