Hiya AAA, I've been to my intro and done my medical - just waiting to hear when I can start now !!!

Only learned about it via Woodpops on here - then two of my neighbours have shrunk before my very eyes and kicked me into taking some action !

How are you feeling about it ?

AlmostAnAngel · 09/09/2005 11:16

sick! lol ..i am fed up of diets been on loads since age of 8 ...this must work or i am going to camo at the drs till he sorts out why!........what does the dr need to do to agree then?

OP posts:
AlmostAnAngel · 09/09/2005 11:19

camp i meant!
if i get to start ,do you wanna be my ll buddy?

OP posts:
Scatterbrain · 09/09/2005 11:27

Yes definitely up for a bit of moral support !!

The medical is just blood pressure and heart check - I know some GPs don't agree with this type of diet and refuse - but my LL lady gave us all a list of "tame" local GPs who would approve you if you were healthy enough. So if your own refuses you can get the medical done by another doctor anyway !

I was shocked that I had to pay £35 for my medical - bit of a cheek as it wasn't even a full medical and was just a normal drs appointment ! They tried to charge me £75 at first - but then gave in and let me off at £35 !!

I am really wanting to start now - but also really nervous - I just don't know if I'll be able to cope with not eating !!

AlmostAnAngel · 09/09/2005 12:06

oh .what are the risks then if you need a heart check?.......the meeting on monday has 9 people going so she said if we all sign up that will be our group, wondering how you deal with shopping ,cooking for the family

OP posts:
AlmostAnAngel · 09/09/2005 12:08

the not eating bit doesnt bother me ,i have always said if there was a tablet that gave you all the nutrients etc ,and would make you lose weight i would be happy with that, just the family meal times is a worry

I think with the heart they are just checking for irregular beat and murmurs - I guess most of us would be aware of them anyway through checks during pregnancy !

I don't think the diet particularly stresses the heart - no more than being obese anyway !

Everyone tells me that they feel no desire to eat - and in fact get quite into cooking for the family ! My one neighbour even hosted a big party and did all the delicious food herself !

I remain to be convinced that I have this resolve in me ! I am such a picker !!

OP posts:
Merlot · 09/09/2005 16:43

Its my find out about it meeting - but I'm sure that I am going to do it. Like you, I have been inspired by Woodpops and Moonshine

Good Luck with your meeting tonight. Dont forget to tell me how it went!

vickiyumyum · 09/09/2005 18:18

went to my first meeting last night and got my food packs, although have been advised by the grou[ leader not to start until saturday as i am on nights (last night and tonight) and she said my body will be messed up enough without starting this as well!

i haven't done it today but i think i will take one of the soups to work tonight for in my break and have one of the milkshakes when i get in before going to bed and then a soup when its teatime.

seeing all those people at the group last night made me determined to start and lose some weight i don't want to be the one to drop out! there were a couple people there who had started previously and had dropped out.

what made me even more determined, i think is that on the way out i saw a mum from the school gates who before the summer holidays was way bigger than me and she is really much smaller then. so i kind of feel i've turned it into a competition, you know a 'if shes done it then so can i'!

When do you think you will be starting?

AlmostAnAngel · 09/09/2005 19:20

.not tonight ,im monday too!funny if its the same one

AlmostAnAngel · 09/09/2005 19:22

vicky.........did they say i there is any side effects

OP posts:
Scatterbrain · 09/09/2005 19:56

They told me that you can feel pretty tired and headachey in first few days - carb withdrawal I think - but to take tablets and persevere. Also - some people get diarrhoea or constipation. I have also heard bad breath can be a problem.

However - it's gotta be worth it for the results !

AlmostAnAngel · 10/09/2005 08:13

good luck with your first day vicky

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 10/09/2005 12:15

thanks, you can read from the other thread, not very happy at the moment! i like to have a solid breakfast (i.e food and not adrink) but for the first week you are only allowed the shakes and soups, i tried making it into the moose, but it tasted really gross, so added more water and made it into the milkshake, which was fine, but because i don't like milkshake was making me gag! roll on next week when i can get the cereal bars!

i've been told the side effects are tiredness, in the first week, hungriness, which again should only last around three days, coldness. even the advisor who has now lost her weight and is doing permanent maintenance said she is always cold and wears a cardi even on hot days!

will keep you posted on how its going. good luck for monday!

Scatterbrain · 10/09/2005 14:55

Ooh - just had the call - first meeting on Thursday - so I will start next Friday !! Scarey but necessary !

AlmostAnAngel · 12/09/2005 09:35

vickiyumyum · 12/09/2005 18:54

aaa - am replying on this thread as shorter! am finding it very difficult to keep the food packs down! they physically make me gag. have spoken to my gp today who isn't very happy that i am doing this would rather i went to the dietician and do it properly as she says. have explained about the countless diets that i have been on and that they don't really do it for me.
she then asked me how i was getting on with my thyroxine! i don't take any! i had blood tests about 6 months ago and was told that they were negative and that nothing was wrong with my thyroid function, i am now being told that my thyroid function is virtually nil! so have had more blood tests just to check that this is correct. in the meantime i will percivere with lighter life as weighed myself today and have lost 8lbs!!!!!!!
i'm sure that the physical effects of being overweight are worse for your body than the soups and shakes amking me throw up. (they all taste salty to me and i don't add any salt to them so not sure why.)

Not feeling to confident today in the longevity of the programme, this was manily after speaking to my lighterlife councillor who said that even three years after losing her weight the only way she can keep it off is by sticking with the programme and everytime she leaves maintenance the weight piles back on, this can't be right surely.

also now i have started it so many other lighter life users have come iout of the woodwork and admitted that they used it too, but most of them have regained at least 50% of the weight. also 4 out of the 12 in our group are returners, three of which have piled on more weight than they lost!

please please someone reassure me that i am not getting into a cycle of lighter life deprivation and the chance of never being able to eat proper healthy food again. (its strange the foods i crave at the moment are carrots, lettuce, asparagus and broccoli)

Merlot · 12/09/2005 21:17

Hi

I've just come back from my introductory meeting and I am raring to go - sorry that you are having such a hard time vickiyumyum (the first week is apparently the hardest though?)

AlmostanAngel where did you go for your intro talk? Mine was in Farnham, Surrey.

I am going to start a week on Saturday (thats when the next group starts) I just hope my GP doesnt give me a hard time and happily signs the form!

AlmostAnAngel · 13/09/2005 13:26

vicky ,,,the way i see it is if i dont do this i will die younger than i should and i have three beautifull daughters who may give me grandchildren in the future and i want to be here to run around with them,,so hey if i never eat proper food again so be it ! what i think is when i have lost my weight,i will just have fruit smoothies at breakfast then nothing then a healthy evening meal.,if anyone thinks you can lose loads of weight then go back to eating how you did to put the weight on in the first place then sorry but of course you will ,,my thyroid is useless i am on 275mg at the mo which is very high ,,,but i am fed up of waiting till they get it right to do something about this,, i have lost 3 stone 7lb 2 times in the past 10 years but havent been able to lose more then i get depressed comfort eat goes back on! so this way i cant comfort eat!!i will do it im 100% sure! if the dr says so any way he doesnt i stage a sit in!! sorry you have had problems with the sachets if you dont get a good responce from your group call the head office.....good luck and i went to the witham essex one.

OP posts:
AlmostAnAngel · 13/09/2005 13:28

vicky try more water with them or different flavours ,,or mix the sachet with icecubes in a blender to make ice cream?

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 13/09/2005 19:17

i am still having problems with the food packs, still being physically sick, have tried everything under the sun, got a recipe list from my group and tried the ice cream, cookies, muffins, making it with more and less water still not working, have never been so miserable in my life. i expected it to be hard, and i didn't have great expectations for the taste of the foodpacks, but obviously not to this extent.

I am honestly not sure where i am going with this, i want to be slimmer and see that lighterlife is quick fix solution to get me to my goal. i think i really need to speak to my counsellor but at the moment her phone has been switched off.

have tried pushing my water intake up to more than 4 litres and can just about go 4 litres and one more glass.

to be honest i have never really dieted before! i was depressed and piled on the weight and had half heartedly tried to lose weight on slimming world and lost a 1lb to 2 lb a week, but when i made an effort (just before starting this programme) i managed to lose nearly 3stone in 10 weeks.

am keeping going, and will go to my meeting on thursday and have a word with the counsellors!

must keep trying!
