Piste is busily plumping up the cushions and making a space for Blondes to dump the naughty step.

Here we go! Let's see 2010 out in style my fellow Slinkies!

OP posts:
bebejones · 03/11/2010 14:25

I have a blister come up on my toe, it is really sore! :( What can I put on it?

prettybird · 03/11/2010 14:29

Have you put it in a bowl of iced water?

bebejones · 03/11/2010 15:21

Yep for as long as I could, it's looking a little better now, dreading putting shoes on! That'll teach me to cook barefoot!

prettybird · 03/11/2010 15:28

I do that all the time! Do you have any lavender gel you could use to soothe it? Or even some sudocreme.

bebejones · 03/11/2010 15:39

Aaah yes! Sudocrem! Shall go rumage in DDs drawers!! Why didn't I think of that?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2010 15:46

lol piste - needs must - im hopefully in the zone this week

think needed a few weeks off to eat what i wanted

ouch bebe - cucumber but not cream as shouldnt put crem on burns

prettybird · 03/11/2010 16:00

I know not to put butter on - but I thought once the heat was out of it, it would be OK to put some sort of healing/soothing cream on to it?

I seem to be (finally!) "in the zone" :)....... the Scottish Mumsnet meet-up on 4 December is a great incentive Wink

DespicableMe · 03/11/2010 19:31

I've been gone ages... had no internet for the last week! Right. Just had a quick read through to try to catch up a bit :)

Welcome Sandstorm Grin

Sounds like everyone's in the zone atm woohoo! Crimbo looming makes me determined yet fearful - Chocolate I can resist now (just) but yorkshire pudding and gravy (eek!)
resistance is futile!!! Should I allow myself to put on a certain amount over Crimbo and not lose heart? I dunno Confused

Hot on the heels of 1) going under 12st and 2) getting into some size 12 (generous 12) jeans... I can now say tadaaa I have lost 3 stone! 5 lbs to target weight with Crimbo on the way Hmm Hmm

GettinGhoulish · 04/11/2010 09:18

Morning Smile

Bebe hope your foot is better this morning.

DespicableMe well done on the size 12 jeans. 3 stone is amazing...

Pretty ikwym about gaining weight more easily these days, but we'll do it. My dad age 79 has lost 3 stone for health reasons so it can be done.

I weighed in today (should have been monday Blush only just got around to it this week, I sts.

Smalline · 04/11/2010 10:14

Hello ladies, may I join you please? I feel that I know you all already because I have been reading your thread more or less since it startedBlush.

I would like to lose 1 stone for starters, preferably in time for my 50th birthday next July (originally thought 2 stone but I think that might be too much for my age). Started off this year at 13stone 1.5lbs am currently around 12stone 6lbs. My weigh day is Friday.

prettybird · 04/11/2010 10:27

Welcome smalline. I too have a target of my 50th birthday - although I am remaining ambitious and hoping to the lose the 3 stone I put on last year by next April [gulp]Shock

It does get so much more difficult as you get older though doesn't it! I had an epiphany last week that seems to be working (in that my sneeky daily checks of the scales have been very positive :)) when I realised I was generally moving much slower than I used to. I had always been very fit and woud run every where but had recently let that slip. I am now consciously trying to make myself move faster - even (or rather especially) around the house. Even walking up/down the stairs, instead of just pldding up/dwon them, put some effort and energy into it.

That, combined with calorie counting and extra "formal" exercise (I'm currently doing the Shred but am going to start running again as well, achilles tendon permitting)

prettybird · 04/11/2010 10:29

Oops - posted too soon Blush

...That, combined with calorie counting and extra "formal" exercise (I'm currently doing the Shred but am going to start running again as well, achilles tendon permitting) should hopefully keep the sacles steadily moving downward. :) That, plus the fantastic support on here, of course Grin

Amygeorgina · 04/11/2010 10:41

Hello, I'm really very new here. I don't know if there's a thread for ladies with a LOT to lose, but I'm currently around the 20st mark, have been for about 2 years (I was already big but put on with the stress of my DD being born, I didn't know til I was 30 weeks, imagine that shit storm!)Blush

So I have about 7-8st to lose, it's still not ideal, but it's my goal, I don't think I'll EVER be 10st, I just don't think I'm built that way. I'm at the total beginning. I try to do well but I don't really exercise (embarassment; shit excuse I know!) and tend to junk out when I'm feeling depressed (more often that not!!)

Tried WW which was working, others have suggested Slimming World. I was on Orlistat/Xenical (double the strength of Alli) but even when I was good the side effects were frankly horrific, so even the 4lb a week weight loss couldn't outweigh the ahem, downsides... Anyone else been on it?

Any motivation appreciated, and will aim to motivate others in due course too.

GettinGhoulish · 04/11/2010 10:51

Welcome Smalline and Amy {smile] Add yourselves to the list.

Smalline, another stone for me too would be great, I am 48 next birthday (also July), so being realistic I would like to get down to 11 stone and maintain it by then, which is heavier than I used to be.

Amy, I'll post the list in a minute, we all have varying amounts to lose, but we are sticking with it on this thread.

When Blondes come on later she's the ww queen and has great knowledge of points, etc. I have done 3 things since being on this thread, ww, foodfocus (a great free site that counts calories) and just sticking regularly to healthy low fat meals and trying to fit in as much exercise as possible.

Do I just copy and paste and add my details - what a noob!

I've also used FoodFocus in the past, I used it when I was taking the Orlistat as I couldn't have more than about 30g of fat a day. Should start using it again, it was handy! I sit at a PC all day, how do I find it so hard not to keep track online?!!

So, I'll add myself to the list then, I see there are a few up in my next of the woods!

Welcome Smalline and Amy

well done gg for staying the same

i think i will be the same tomorrow, as although i have been good, i dont think ive been good enough iyswim to lose, but hey you never know :)

b shreddies and skim 3p
l chicken cesar salad 6.5p
tchicken salad

i know i have the same for lunch/tea - grrrrrrrrrrrr, dh said he would sort out tea tonight and what did i want, so i said chicken salad to be good - went out for lunch and friend made chicken ceaser salad as well lol

surely lots of salad is good Grin

prettybird · 04/11/2010 15:09

Welcome Amygeorgina :). We have people of all shapes and sizes on here: some who have loads to lose, some who only have a little, some who've already lost loads and others who have struggled to lose a little. But with support from each other, we are succeeding :)

If I stay the weight I've been the last couple of days, I should have good news to report :)

Made spicy pumpkin soup last night with ds' pumpkin lantern Grin. Had some again for lunch, so been very good.

Need to decide would to have for dinner tonight: have got some baby sweet corn and mangetout, so may find a chicken breast or two from the freezer and make a stir fry (light on the oil of course).

I'm trying to use up stuff in the freezer so that I've got room to prepare for Christmas.

Did my 2nd day of the second time through the Shred. Using heavier weights (and weights for some sections where she doesn't use wegihts in Level 1 but she does for the same exercises in Level 3) and trying to squat deeper - so am feeling it in my bum. Still can't do the press-ups though - althugh I try to do one or two at the start of each repeition before reverting to the bent-leg version.

bebejones · 04/11/2010 15:23

Welcome Smalline & Amy!

I have to say I wouldn't have lost the weight i have lost without the support (bum kicking) and encouragement of these guys!

Pretty - I am trying to empty the freezer too! It is full of odd bits and pieces, long forgotten bread rolls & pitta breads! Trying to restock on soup. Will make some fresh bread rolls 2moro. Just waiting for my asda order to arrive!! Hmm

Leg is still sore & achey so still having to be a bit light on the activity which is really frustrating! Just hoping the numbness doesn't get any worse! Just can't face the thought of the steroids!

Blondes - I love a chicken salad, having it twice might be a tiny bit dull for you, but at least it's yummy! Wink

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/11/2010 15:50

Well said pretty and we have ALL lost weight tho some more than others like bebe have made their target unlike me :(

but hey um a stone and half lighter than I was in jan :)

so sure these threads will carry on with newbies joining us and oldies trying to sts

really think it helps having this group on mn :)

I'm also emptying the freezer hence the chicken defrosting - maybe if dh hasn't brought the salad then I can have pasta or rice tho salad is free on ww points :)

I did sneak a little look in dc Halloween looty bag and snaffled 2 chic eggs so not totally perfect bu I was under p yesterday so added them there lol

it wld be nice if I could lose another 7lbs before Xmas but unlikely :(

but hey NEXT YEAR I will be in my trousers (hopefully)

wearing 12 jeans today :)

Amygeorgina · 04/11/2010 15:52

Does walking into town at lunctime count as exercise? It's a 30 minute round trip? I get the impression from people sometimes that it doesn't count!

I need to crack on with the shred too, me and OH, we weigh more or less the same so we both have a long way to go! We feed each other's bad habits, literally! Oh dear!

Anyone got a good recipe for pumpkin soup actually, I have two 2l tub fulls of the stuff. I was going to make a pie with one tub (naughty) but would like to try a soup too to bring to work.

Thanks for the initial support guys - had minestrone soup for lunch, 134 cals and 0.6g sat fat. Need to dig out my points calculator I think.

prettybird · 04/11/2010 15:59

If you look at FoodFocus (a recommendation I got on here which has really helped me) then yes, walking into town does count. Any exercise over and above your base level counts. :)

What you need to be careful not to do though is to "treat" yourself to something naughty afterwards as a "reward".

prettybird · 04/11/2010 16:02

Oh - amd my pumpkin soup was just thrown together with an onion sweated off in a small amount of olive oil, some chopped garlic, some ground cumin and coriander, pumpkin cooked in the microwave (to get it off its skin easily) and then added, some chicken stock, cooked together and then blizted and then some orange juice to thin it. I also put a squoosh of Lee& Perrins in to spice it up.

bebejones · 04/11/2010 16:42

Amy - pumpkin & red pepper soup works really well. Sweat off an onion in some oil ( I use fry light) with a little garlic if you have some. Add pumpkin, red pepper & a pinch of nutmeg & paprika, plenty of freshly ground black pepper, add tin of chopped toms, some chicken or veg stock, add splash of worcester sauce. Cook til all veg is soft & chuck in a blender & blitz til desired texure (I like it v smooth). You can add some chilli also if you like it hot. Nice with some creme fraiche stirred in to serve. (Not essential & healthier without Wink)

I live on soup! (Mostly!!)

Have been quite good today. (Had 2 v small squares of homemade fudge & shared a french fancy with DD)
b - OJ & low fat yoghurt
l - Small piece of hm quiche handful of grapes (and was force fed DDs toast crusts & a small cube of cheese Hmm)
d - hm chilli bean soup with pumpkin ryvita
prob have fruit or yoghurt for pud!

prettybird · 04/11/2010 17:26

[shudders] at the thought of red peppers - I hate, hate, hate all peppers - as in "this piece of meat on a kebab was cooked next to a pepper so I therefore won't eat it" or "a tiny bit of pepper was used in this tomato sauce, so therefore I'll gag if I eat it" Blush

However, I'll quite happily taste a young cabernet sauvignan and say "this tastes/smells of green peppers" Confused (it is a "taste" that will then mature into a lovely spicy, cedarwood, sigar box type flavour with age)

I've been really good today. Yesterday I finally cracked when dh brought through 3 mini crunchies from the Halloween goodies bowl, one for each of us. I still managed to finish the day 167 calories under my target (after exercise) :)
