Piste is busily plumping up the cushions and making a space for Blondes to dump the naughty step.

Here we go! Let's see 2010 out in style my fellow Slinkies!

OP posts:
bebebones · 27/10/2010 14:13

Just a bit worried that I'm gonna end up putting it all back on, can feel myself sliding down the slippery slope of old habits! Confused

Had to have a hot chocolate for medicinal purposes :o And also coz it's bloody freezing!! Trouble is it was accompanied by a choc chip cookie & some 'celebrations' from the Halloween stash Blush

Blondes - I'm sure you won't have a stone to lose, it'll be fine. Sometimes you need to have a break in order to stop you going completely bonkers!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2010 14:30

throw away your fat/larger clothes and then you have no choice (like me)

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/10/2010 14:49

I've just done that. Got rid of a load of my biggest (imported from America Blush ) clothes.

It's really good psychologically. To move on. To tell yourself that you are never going to let yourself get back into those things again.

bebebones · 27/10/2010 15:04

I did do that with most of them! Kept the biggest pair of jeans to do the posing pictures! Wink Can't throw out most of the tops coz I'm still wearing most of them! Blush They were quite stretchy and I still need them to get my boobs in! Blush Do need to have a proper sort out again though!

GettinGhoulish · 27/10/2010 18:53

Pumpkin is very similar to bns? I've always fancied pumpkin pie.

Bebe - My mum is on anti-inflammatories atm they have sorted out her swollen joints, hope they go alright for you.

I went shopping today and bought - leggins! I think they look alright (thanks to the running) but with a long top to hide my tummy bits. I feel like I've stepped back into the 1980s [hhmm] I used to wear them with those pixie boots that were in fashion, I notice they've come back now. It'll be corkscrew perms next...

blondes - don't forget your body will use energy to heal, sure you wouldn't have put on that much.

bebebones · 27/10/2010 19:15

Oooh yes, pumpkin pie, I wonder how easy that might be...Hmm

bebebones · 27/10/2010 20:00

Pumpkin pie recipe (Prob wouldn't be too good for the diet Confused)
Ingredients
800g pumpkin, peeled, cubed
1/2 tsp each ground ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbs rum or Amaretto
1/2 cup cream, plus extra to serve
1 egg
1 egg yolk
200g (1 cup) tightly packed brown sugar
Pastry
225g (1 1/2) cups plain flour, sifted
100g unsalted butter, cubed
1 tbs icing sugar
A little milk, to brush
Method
Preheat oven to 200°C.
To make the pastry, place the flour, butter and icing sugar in a food processor and process until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add enough chilled water (about 4-5 tablespoons) for the mixture to come together to form a smooth ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to chill.
Meanwhile, wrap the pumpkin in foil, place on a baking tray and roast in the oven for 40 minutes or until tender. Set aside to cool slightly, then place pumpkin in a food processor with the spices, vanilla extract, rum and cream and process to combine.
Beat together the eggs and sugar in a small bowl, then stir into the pumpkin mixture.
Roll out the pastry and use to line a 23cm pie dish. Trim the pie and reserve excess pastry. Line with non-stick baking paper, then fill with pastry weights or rice and blind bake for 10 minutes. Remove the paper and weights, then pour in the pumpkin mixture. Roll out reserved pastry and use a leaf-shaped pastry cutter to cut out leaves to decorate edge of pie. Brush the leaves with milk. Reduce the oven temperature to 170°C and bake for a further hour until the filling is set. Set aside to cool. Serve with the extra cream.

Never had pumpkin. What's it like? Hmm well, I suppose it's like pumpkin. Grin nice? sweet?

smokinpumpkins · 27/10/2010 20:10

Can I join in??

Firstly, can I say well done all of you who have lost weight - and ruddy hell Hecate, go you!!!!!

I was 13st 9. I went down to 11st 10 last summer but piled 1st back on through over eating. I have since lost 7lb and this morning was 12st 3. My target is 10st 2, which is the highest I should be for my BMI.Ideally I'd like 7lb under that - but 10st 2 is my target for now. Would like to be 11st for Christmas, but not sure whether thats a bit much?

I am just following a sensible diet - lots of fruit, no snacking, no evening eating, lots of fluid. And using ready meals to try and limit my main meal intake as my portion control is so shite.

Need some moral support to stay on the straight an narrow though so can I join??

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/10/2010 20:24

hiya. Smile

I haven't been posting on this thread long but it's really nice.

GettinGhoulish · 27/10/2010 20:25

Welcome Smokin I talked to you on your other thread about portion control Smile

You can get Rosemary's portion pots from the internet, I suppose try on EBay, I seem to remember you can buy them for £4.99 on rosemary's official site, I suppose just google rosemary conley.

Add yourself to the list.

If you're very motivated I think a stone could be doable by christmas, but we've been going since January and are planning on sticking with it for the long haul.

Hecate well done you!!!!

bebebones · 27/10/2010 20:29

Hecate :o Well done!!!

Pumpkin is very similar to BNS. Is probably a little sweeter and I personally think is moister. I've never made pie, but it makes very good soup! :)

Smokinpumpkins, welcome aboard!

Add yourself to the list! 17lbs in 8 weeks might be pushing it a bit! But you never know! Don't beat yourself up too much if you don't make it! I'd love to be 10st by Christmas but the way I'm going right now I'll prob end up putting weight back on between now and then!! Hmm At least I am just down to the upper limit of my BMI, but that did take 9months of starvation hard work! Wink

GettinGhoulish · 27/10/2010 20:29

bebe thanks for that recipe it sounds scrummy, just one bit for us dieters!

bebebones · 27/10/2010 20:31

What is it Nigella says about 'hint of a wobble'?! (That'll be my thighs rather than the pie!! Wink)

smokinpumpkins · 27/10/2010 20:36

Bebe, now you come to mention it, 17lb in 7 weeks may be a bit much. But as long as it starts with an 11 I will be happy.

Ghoulish, I tried tonight and managed a good potion control I think. I did bolognese, but instead of pasta we had small jacket potatoes - and I could only put 2 spoonfuls of bolognese ontop, with lots of veg. I froze half the mix, which is a major thing in this house - normally its cleared between the 3 of us! I think I need to be sure in my mind how much looks too much, and find alternatives that fill me up more. I think I will look into those portion cups as well though.

smokinpumpkins · 27/10/2010 20:37

oh, and anyone got a Pumpkin soup recipe, with carrots and potatoes? DS1 did one at school and is begging me to do it at home but I have no idea!!

GettinGhoulish · 27/10/2010 20:41

Her peanut butter chocolate cheesecake has just a "hint of inner thigh wibble." I love Nigella but imo she was at her best a couple of years ago with her christmas series. I am doing chocolate xmas cake this year.

Smokin - yes, I habitually got into the habit of piles of pasta and great big jacket spuds so you're doing alright.

bebebones · 27/10/2010 20:48

Smokin - I have got into the habit of freezing leftovers. I always cook too much! Blush Portion control is an issue for me too. I used to just 'guess' at pasta and rice but if you actually weigh out the suggested portion sizes it really isn't that much!

Pumpkin soup, I've never made with carrots & potatoes, but probably all you'd need to do is cook everything with some onion & stock til soft then put in a blender. Hmm Maybe? (That's what I tend to do with all soups!)

GG - I think you're probably right about Nigella!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2010 07:51

welcome smoking!! agree 17lbs before xmas is pushing it- a healthy weight loss is 1/2lbs a week

pumpkin is yummy, soooooooooooo sweet and veeeeeeeeeeeeeery bad!!!

bebebones · 28/10/2010 09:54

Blondes - Is pumpkin lots worse than BNS then? Even in soup?

prettybird · 28/10/2010 10:15

Welcome Smokinpumpkins :)

Your weight "history" sounds very similar to mine. I put on 3 stone last year after I stopped work (got made reudnany and am now working from home) - hopefully we can reach target together. I am finding as I apporach 50 that it is more and more of an effort to lose weight. Recently, I have found that strict calorie counting (using FoodFoucs) is helping.

On portion control, I remember reading somewhere that using smaller plates helps trick the brain into thinking you have had more food ('cos the plate looks fuller). The toher thing I read was that we eat less off a blue plate (ingrained fear of blue food - tends to be poisonous!). However, I haven't gone as far as going out and buying a blue dinner service! Grin

I've realised that I didn't update my weight followwing last week, so I will do so now:

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2010 13:38

sorry meant pumpkin pie is veeeeeeeeery bad, coz of all the sugar [hgrin]

pumpkin soup would be o points

bebebones · 28/10/2010 14:04

Hehe, might be very bad, but bet it's very yummy! :o

Will be making soup I think coz DH is adamant he doesn't like pumpkin pie!

prettybird · 28/10/2010 14:25

Tip for cooking BNS/other squashes and sweet potatoes so you don't have to peel them (or more accurately, it is easy to pull the skin off): use the microwave.

For BNS, halve, de-seed and then eeither put the two halves into a container in which they fit neatly and cling film it tightly, or cling film each of the halves. Blast them for about 8 minutes. (I tend to do it in 4 minutes balsts and then check them). You can then just scoop out the soft middle.

For sweet potato, prick it a couple of times with a fork and then put it on a paper towel in the microwave and balst it uncovered for about 8 minutes or so. The skin should just slip off once it is cooked.
