Half a stone challenge

enjoysthesunshine · 22/09/2010 10:39

My favourite jeans fit a person half a stone lighter than me.

Anyone fancy joining me to shake off a few pounds? I am planning to cut back on treats (but god-forbid, not cut them out!) and move a little more.

I'm starting now! Smile

That's some willpower you've got there Framey, to only eat half a caramel wafer Grin I was quite relieved to find DH had eaten almost all of a bar of chocolate last night, as it meant I couldn't eat the whole thing myself today. Because I absolutely would have.

So I have eaten:
1 slice wholemeal toast with peanut butter
20g Milka chocolate
cupasoup (Ainsley Harriot thai chicken)
3 crackers with 1 wedge laughing cow cheese
pear
kiwi fruit
cereal bar

Did level 3 of 30 Day Shred this morning. Tomorrow is my last day! I'm looking forward to comparing weight and measurements to when I started.

becstarlitsea · 30/09/2010 14:53

Oh Framey, how annoying for you. We've all been there... But sometimes it's just a hormonal thing and you have a bigger loss the next week to balance things out - that's happened to me before. What diet are you trying to follow - any one in particular? Are you measuring your portion sizes? Drinking lots of water? And are you eating often enough - sometimes you need to eat little and often (but healthy stuff and portion controlled) to keep your metabolism burning. Please stick with us - if you have a big loss next week it will be so much sweeter!

boobmanagement · 30/09/2010 16:11

Izzy, are you BF? You're not eating much at all!

BusyMissIzzy · 30/09/2010 16:28

No, I'm not BFing anymore. I'm trying to stick to 1500 calories a day at the moment (although it more often creeps up to 1600). I never experienced the magical BFing weightloss, in fact it just seemed to make me hungrier! I'm finding losing weight easier now I've stopped. And exercising is easier now I'm less, umm, top-heavy :)

BusyMissIzzy · 30/09/2010 16:29

(I should add that weight loss and exercise were not factors in my giving up BFing; I'm not that vain/self-obsessed!)

eisbaer · 30/09/2010 19:55

Bec your post made me laugh out loud!
An interesting weight week for all of us then. p.s. I saw the girl on Lorraine's next big fat challenge get very frustrated when she'd gained 3 lbs, having claimed to follow her plan and attended boot camp also. I have much more sympathy for Framester however, as this lass had a much bigger load to shift than F and as we're all agreed, it's when you get to the End that it's trickiest. Chin up.
Re. not having time to exercise - here's some tough love. Once read in a Sunday paper someone saying similar and the expert's reply was "count up all the hours in the week that you are awake". 84 anyway(prob much more). So is 3 or 4 of those hours that much to spend on exercise? that's what I always think of when I can't be a88ed to go for a run once the kids are down, which is every time practically.
Now, on the weight issue, I was moaning about not breaking the 130 lb bit(9 stone 4 I THINK), then today I weighed myself and, behold, was 128 lbs! Hence upbeat mood?

I think it's wise to just weigh ourselves once a week if atall possible, it's hard not to check but it's the fairest indicator of how we're doing, and it's best to weigh self first thing in the morning? Optimum time for a good result?
here's the log
breakfast - porage with water, drizzle honey and splash semi milk
coffee with semi milk
break - apple
coffee with semi milk
lunch - tuna sandwich on wholemeal with light spread and tomato sauce(tasty, believe..)
apple
coffee with semi milk

dinner - mince n potatoes( no fat curtailing atall, alot less potato than usual for moi)
activia 0% yogurt
2 marshmallow top hats but that's them done now
slice of choc birthday cake
cup of tea

hopefully I'll end tonight with some fruit at most.

good luck to all, this is really making it better to stick to, having to account for myself here!
x

boobmanagement · 30/09/2010 21:07

eisbear, you're doing really well with all the running - are you losing inches?

Had a not bad day today. Going to try harder tomorrow and aim for 1800 calories.

Need to keep my chins up Grin

FrameyMcFrame · 30/09/2010 22:23

Busy, there was only a half left as Dd ate the other half...
I hope it is just hormonal Becs, also think I weighed myself at the wrong time of day...
apparently your weight can fluctuate up to 2 pounds in the space of a day!

becstarlitsea · 01/10/2010 11:44

Definitely Framey, weight fluctuates for all kinds of reasons - I am sure you'll see a bigger loss next week. It does back up eisbaer's point about just weighing in once a week at the same time of day so we get an average picture, rather than all the weird ups and downs that occur over the course of a day/week/menstrual cycle. I did well again yesterday - no unplanned snacking at all! And doing well so far today too. This thread is definitely helping to motivate me. Thanks all - hope you're all going well today too. So far today it's:

B: Unsweetened stewed apple and low fat natural yoghurt
Snack: Chai with skimmed milk and half water, 4 cashew nuts, 2 dried apricots, a few dried cranberries

And the plan is:
L: Tuna salad
Snack: Pear
D: Baked pollack (fish!) with ratatouille

Tomorrow's plan is a work in progress. I need to do a weekend menu and go food shopping with DS after school. Am trying to inspire myself with ideas of what to eat that DH will also enjoy... A sunday roast with lots of veg will be part of the plan for sure.

FrameyMcFrame · 01/10/2010 22:01

Well today I've had

B: porrige and banana
L: Eggs and toast and raisins (not all together)
D: Pasta with chicken breast and tomatoes.

There's a big bag of crisps calling me from the kitchen cupboard now though ;)

DontMentionChorizo · 02/10/2010 08:55

Hi Half stoners, what a saintly bunch you lot are. Well done:

Yesterday I had:

B: Porridge with 50/50 water, skimmed milk and sweetener. Coffee with skimmed milk and sweetener.

S:Handful of almonds

L: Chicken and veg stir fry with wild rice.

S: greek yogurt

D: protein shake

E: Two 50 minute bike rides!!!

I can say that for me portion control, healthy snacks, lots of water and increasing exercise has made a massive difference.

Looking forward to my weigh in on Tuesday! Grin

FrameyMcFrame · 02/10/2010 09:25

Wow, protien shake for dinner!! That's impressive indeed!

eisbaer · 03/10/2010 21:20

anyone still out there? I have had a very naughty weekend. Two nights out on the booze, beer Friday night(slap my wrist I know), then was good all day Saturday re. food, then started on the fizz late afternoon, wine, smirnoff ice, there was no allusion to healthy options at any point. Then a bag of chips on the way home, and a cup of tea and chocolate brownie back at my friend's. And today has been DISASTROUS! Too much to list, none of it healthy, and the only plus is now that I've stopped eating junk and have moved to the PC to break it and will shortly be going to bed!

So please keep posting, I need some tough love to get me back on track tomorrow. if any of you are speaking to me now that is Wink

DontMentionChorizo · 04/10/2010 09:30

Shock Eisbaer

We will have to kick you from this thread!!!

Only joking. I think the weekend can be tough, especially when going out and meeting friends. It's Monday and a chance to right all those wrongs.

I had an OKish saturday until dinner when we went to friends for a home made curry, it was nice, but I had a shandy and a glass of red wine and some Vienetta after..so not great.

Made up for it yesterday with just coffee, porridge and a minestrone. Not that I am saintly , had a massive row with DP and was feeling miserable, and that always does the trick Sad.

Sorry didn't mean to spread my misery on here. Hope everyone is doing great, it's a new week, so chin up and let's make good choices. I am off for a loooong bike ride.

Please keep posting and let's support each other.

Ch

Xx

becstarlitsea · 04/10/2010 09:48

Morning all! I overdid it at the weekend too... And I just stupidly weighed myself - stupid because I last weighed in on Wednesday, and didn't we say that we'd just weigh once a week? Oh hang on a minute, wasn't it actually ME who went on and on about it??? Blush Am an idiot. Of course I was 3 pounds heavier than last time I weighed myself and threw myself into a spiral of demotivation. Bah!

DontMentionChorizo, you are absolutely right - it's Monday, fresh start. Here is our line:-

And here is my plan:
B: didn't get around to it, bit late now!
snack: dried apricots and low fat yoghurt
L: Tuna salad
snack: 1 rice cake with tsp peanut butter + an apple
D: Chicken casserole with lots of veg

And tomorrow the plan is:
B: porridge
snack: dried cranberries and cashews
L: Low fat cheese salad
snack: piece of fruit
D: home-made chicken soup

Exercise will have to wait until my knee calms down - have twisted it. Still walking DS to school and back though.

DontMentionChorizo · 04/10/2010 14:42

Hi Bec!

Thanks for drawing that big line for the half stoners to start over today!!!

Don't beat yourself up, you seem v. good, just reading your posts and your food intake. I too agree with you about weighing once a week, I will do tomorrow.

How is everyone doing?

I had porridge with half water and half skimmed milk (sweetener). coffee w. sweetener and skimmed milk

Went for 80 min bike ride

Lunch was a tea w. skimmed milk and sweetener and a whole meal roll with half small tin of tuna, half hard boiled, egg, tomato, carrots and lettuce.

Hope you ladies are doing well. Onwards and upwards!!Smile

becstarlitsea · 05/10/2010 14:21

Hey Chorizo, sounds like you're doing really well! Good luck for tomorrow.

Where'd everyone else go?

Dammit, forgot breakfast AGAIN today! Was ravenous by the time I'd dropped off DS and ended up grabbing a very big, very sugary flapjack and skinny latte. Not disastrous, but not ideal. But just had my salad and back on track... I have got a couple of DSs friends over for a playdate this afternoon so I am resolving not to pinch any of the sweets they share after school, and the stock for the chicken soup is simmering away.

Weigh in for me tomorrow too.... Gulp!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 05/10/2010 14:25

Yes, I have started too yesterday. Half a stone to lose in three weeks.

Banana for breakfast

Pastrami and rocket sandwich for lunch w horseradish sauce instead of butter

Chicken salad for dinner.

no booze for three weeks

Swam half a mile (in 18 minutes)

Then I can look better in my size 10 LBD at my birthday dinner in 3 weeks (with lots of booze!!)

eisbaer · 05/10/2010 21:33

I've gone off piste since my boozy weekend.

I'm just going to say that tomorrow's another day.
Not boozing between now and the start of Nov, so that should get me back in line. Booze just makes me want junk for a good few days afterwards.
A propos, also thinking I might be getting preg soon anyway, so is there any point in losing 5 lbs before that. Any thoughts? You see how the evil mind plays tricks and tries to let me have more of the sweet stuff once I start on it.
Not been too bad today I guess.
breakfast - porage with water, honey and raisins, dash of milk.
cup of tea with semi milk
mid morning - apple and cup of tea with semi milk
lunchtime - veg soup and water
later on - cup of coffee and a tunnocks tea cake(my achilles heel at any time)
teatime - too much parmesan cheese while cooking bacon, leek, mushroom and pasta bake.
later on - cup of tea, activa 0 % yogurt, 8 percy pig and pals sweets, few mouthfuls of the spag bog I was cooking. Not too bad, relatively speaking.
all sweets gone now and the choc bics I can resist as long as I don't start. Needing some motivation though girls.

babyinacorner · 06/10/2010 08:42

Hi, can i join please? Got a stone to go until i'm at pre pregnancy weight.can't go too hardcore dieting as im breastfeeding but still want to see the numbers going down rather than up.

Stats...current weight 10 st 3, height 5 4. Goal ideally would be 9st..

Big downfall is the weekend...can lose 2lbs in a week but then put it bk on in 2 days! Anyone got any tips on how to avoid the weekend gorge?

becstarlitsea · 06/10/2010 10:07

Hellooo! Welcome amothersplaceisinthewrong and babyinacorner - please do join us, it's nice to see some more people!

Weigh in for me today... 10st 7lbs - so I've lost 3lbs since starting, which is exactly what I wanted, nice and slow, but numbers going steadily down. So I'm chuffed Grin I've also noticed that I've got lots more energy since starting this diet and my skin is looking better.

Hey eisbaer good to see you. Hmm... well it's good to be on a super-healthy diet while TTC isn't it? If it were crash-dieting I'd say 'no way' of course. But if it's just staying off the junk food, limiting the booze and planning healthy low-fat, high-nutrient meals then it can only help - and might give you less to lose afterwards? But I dunno. We'd miss you if you left!

We all seem to go a bit mad on the weekends don't we? You're definitely not alone babyinacorner we all did it last weekend and have been trying to make up for it! Perhaps we should plan this weekend coming up and commit together to what we're going to do. So for me this weekend my commitments would be:-

  • do a mini-shop on Friday to last us over the weekend for planned healthy meals, snacks and drinks - write down exactly what I'm going to eat and drink, shop for it, and make it just as convenient for me to stick to the plan (eg put my healthy snacks ready in my handbag/fridge)
  • go for a long walk on the Heath on Saturday with DH and DS, weather permitting
  • make sure I've had a healthy snack before showing up at friend's house on Sunday for her DSs party as if I"m too hungry I know I'll decimate the buffet and clear my DSs plate for him too!

Anyone else got ideas for weekend damage-limitation?

BusyMissIzzy · 06/10/2010 18:52

Well done on the loss bec :)

Sorry I've been crap at posting. Have been feeling very "snacky" these past few days and have eaten more than I should. Also, I finished the 30 Day Shred last week. I'm still exercising (running at weekends, Davina McCall workouts on weekday mornings), and I might start the Shred again in a couple of weeks.

Today I've eaten:
4 rice cakes with peanut butter and banana
decaf coffee with s/s milk, 1/3 tsp sugar
2 apples
cupasoup
20g chocolate
4 baby beetroot, mini babybel (baby theme unintentional)
cereal bar
Mince & tatties for tea when DH gets home (extra lean mince btw Wink)

I weighed myself this morning and I'm 9st 3.5lb (1.5lb down since I started posting here).

Personally I'm never as 'good' food-wise at weekends as during the week. I think it's a psychological thing, like eating too much on holiday (which I am absolutely guilty of Blush). If you're seriously bingeing though, maybe it means you're not eating enough during the week? Something that helps me is making sure I have healthy snacks to hand. And going for a long run so I can have a bit of cake or a full english breakfast without feeling too guilty Grin

babyinacorner · 06/10/2010 19:16

Bec - gd idea about having healthy snacks to hand at weekend.

i have decided to limit the excess food night to sunday and try to be good the rest of the weekend (well cut out the extras anyway!)

Something which spurred me on last night was trying some of my pre preg clothes on...shocker! I recommend it for giving oneself a kick up the arse..

pointydog · 06/10/2010 19:19

That is exactly what I need to lose. Half a stone. I have not been able to do it.

eisbaer · 06/10/2010 20:55

MissIzzy - loving the 1/3 teaspoon sugar!!

Better day today so far, apart from one massive but understandable blip.

breakfast - porage with honey and raisins, water
1 cup tea semi milk

midmorning - 1 cup coffee with semi milk

lunch - mahoosive bowl of veg soup
fizzy water

mid avvo - 2 bananas

teatime - bacon, leek, pasta bake(little allusion to healthiness therein but we had granny, great aunt and great uncle for tea)
great big bit of homemade apple and bramble crumble with some...........creamBlush!
but I think if I stop there and have just a touch of fruit near bedtime, I should still have done better than previous days.

Still about 2 lbs less then before I started this.
Well done to everyone on this, we will get there!
got a bad cold this week so have used that as an excuse not to run, will start again at weekend.
