Half a stone challenge

enjoysthesunshine · 22/09/2010 10:39

My favourite jeans fit a person half a stone lighter than me.

Anyone fancy joining me to shake off a few pounds? I am planning to cut back on treats (but god-forbid, not cut them out!) and move a little more.

I'm starting now! Smile

Been off the wagon a bit, had to put my old cat to sleep over weekend Sad, so have needed my comfort food. Will return when on track a bit more

DontMentionChorizo · 27/09/2010 12:31

Hi Everyone.

Glad to see this thread come to life.
I was supposed to weigh in today, but haven't got scales so will have to pop into the pharmacy and use one of theirs.

Eisbaer: No, no,no, men don't get weight loss, do they? Wink. And you are sooo right the last half stone is too difficult..So I declare this thread a HIGH MOAN AND WHINGE ZONE. I am glad I don't like alcohol, otherwise would be finding it even harder.

Hello Sunshine...glad to see you back, it's your thread.

Hi Black and Gold, the more the merrier!!!

Will you ladies post your food intake, I am such a saddo I enjoy reading it and it gives me inspiration for meals and snacks.

Will go for lunch now (pitta with hommous and salad) and try to get to pharmacy and post weight on here.

Chin up everyone

looneymum · 27/09/2010 12:51

Hello - can I play? Shifting half a stone is a nightmare but all my lumps and bumps are reappearing in my clothes so it's time for action. Didn't have a good start tho. Had lovely night out on Sat that turned into massive swilling session. Felt rotten yesterday and seemed to weigh less probs due to dehydration. Anyway ended up having McDs to ease recovery - how rubbish is that?!!

Trying to do Wii fit and some floor exercises every day which is fine. It's the possessed eating feeling that I need to reign in... always hard when you work from home.... and when the DCs are in bed!

Have a good rest of the day ladies.

becstarlitsea · 27/09/2010 13:46

Hi all!
Working from home too - the good news is that there isn't any 'naughty' food in the flat. The bad news is that that's because I've eaten it all...

I had a comfort food binge this morning as we're waiting for my dad's diagnosis (his hospital appointment is late this afternoon) and I'm worried about him. There must be something more constructive to do when worried rather than just eating.

So my food today was

B: Porridge
Midmorning - Banana Cake. And more banana cake.
L: Small lean beef steak, runner beans, carrots and potato
D: will be pork steak with apples, artichokes and greens

My plan for tomorrow is:

B: Porridge
L: Carrot & Coriander soup with rice cakes
D: Chicken stir fry

I agree that the stubborn last half-a-stone or so is really difficult. It's hard to stay motivated because you can tell yourself 'well, I'm not REALLY fat', and you can still squeeze into most of your clothes even if they're not that comfortable, and the amount you need to eat to lose weight is much less than when you're carrying a few extra stone. But it needs to be done - I have some lovely skinny black jeans that I can't get into, and I know how much better I feel when I'm at my target weight. (Am trying to talk myself into some motivation here, not finding it that easy!)

looneymum · 27/09/2010 13:53

Hi Bec. Hope all goes well with your dad. It is such a shame that we turn to food whether sad / happy / worried etc. The bizarre thing is of course that the eating just makes us feel worse and so the cycle starts again.

Working from home is a challenge. I have yummy stuff in the cupboards but have had toast for lunch and don't quite know what's for tea which means there's a chance of being possessed by the stuffy monster.

I'll just put the kettle on... but no biscuits....

FrameyMcFrame · 27/09/2010 14:00

Hi please can I join you?

I'm just under 11 stone (by a hair's breadth) and I'm 5.4.

The wii fit says I am now within a normal bodymass for the first time in 18 months but I'd still like to lose half a stone.

Last time I lost weight I did Atkins but I can't face all that grease and protien again.
What's the best plan for losing weight nowadays?

(my waekness is toast and jam Smile)

BlackandGold · 27/09/2010 16:51

Today I ate

Brekkie: branflakes with sultanas and chopped dried apricots, followed by a pear

Avoided the biscuit tin and had an apple mid morning at work

Lunch: jacket potato with baked beans, followed by a WW choc mousse

Dinner will be salmon in sweet chilli sauce and oven roasted veg (BNS, red onion, peppers, but forgot to buy the courgette!)
possibly followed by fresh pineapple

I still feel stuffed from lunch atm!

BusyMissIzzy · 27/09/2010 18:55

Can I join? I'm still about 1st heavier than I was pre-pregnancy, but I'd settle for losing half a stone. Have lost a stone already (2st of you count weight of baby etc Grin). I'm exercising and counting calories and would really like some support and chat from people in a similar situation.

eisbaer · 27/09/2010 19:57

today have eaten -
breakfast - fruit and fibre with semi sk milk
2 cups of tea with milk

mid morning - cappuccino(forgot to ask for skinny, I know talk about the first hurdle and all that) and 2/3 of an apple cake. Now there's a reason for this. We were in my friend's cafe, I'd bought it for my two boys and they were showing no interest in it and I was chatting to her, so I felt I had to eat some to save totally shunning her product! Plus, also, I cannot be bothered with doing any explaining only to hear "but you don't need to lose any weight", when actually I do a tad to fit my normal clothes but it's only half a stone so not visible to the outsider. Have I justified that cake yet?! Anyone else hate that chat, since we're allowed to moan on this thread?!

lunch - cheese and chutney sandwich on 50/50 bread. Not ideal, but using up party food from yesterday. also, a mueller light yogurt and an apple.

mid avvo - cup of tea

dinner - chicken(thighs(naughty)) in a sauce with stock, some sherry, broccoli, spinach and flageolet beans. and brown rice. Not a massive portion, prob about medium.

cup of coffee with milk.

Now am going out for a 6 mile run, so not a bad day in all.

Probably I'll have a couple of apples and maybe a cup of green tea after my run.
I'm modifying that tonight because quite often I'll have a cocoa, but I'm starting to see that all the milk that I eat in coffee and tea and cereal is mounting up. I should cut down on tea/coffee anyway, as I'm always chasing that caffeine dunt.

hope everyone has a "successful" evening and that your dad had a better-than-hoped-for diagnosis, Bec. Puts it all in perspective too, I think, something like that, and you think "well, no-one knows what's ahead, what is the point in depriving myself of that slab of chocolate". good thoughts

looneymum · 28/09/2010 10:08

Arrggghhh. Terrible binge last night. Wonder if I should start a new thread about how to gain half a stone in one night.... feel so rubbish. Don't know why I did it really.... tired etc. Thought I was great as I made a pan of butternut squash and sweet pot soup with a small brown roll.

How are you ladies all doing? I'm finding this sooooo hard.

BlackandGold · 28/09/2010 16:22

Sympathy from me for your binge - why do we do it??!!

I ate some cheese last night whilst waiting for dinner, then had some cheese and onion bread with it, so that didn't go to plan!

I was even feeling stuffed from my lunch so I've no idea why I nibbled the cheese and bread - I certainly wasn't hungry!

All we can do is put it all behind us and start again.

The line has been drawn
_

looneymum · 28/09/2010 19:51

Hi B and G. Thank you for drawing the line... today has indeed been another day.... although the night is young!

At least you didn't eat a whole loaf of bread and cheese so well done for showing restraint.

My day was good. I am pleased that I haven't gone down the "I've binged so it's all ruined route". Eggs for breakfast, sushi for lunch and more soup for tea! I will then go to bed with a pile of magazines to keep the evening munchies at bay.

boobmanagement · 28/09/2010 21:30

Hi, can I join in? I would like to lost at least 1/2 a stone of baby weight. 3rd baby and it's taking longer each time to come off.

I have this band of flab around my lower waist and back. It's awful Sad.

Had joined Tesco diets but my motivation is really low lately. Things are worse when I'm busy and I don't really 'count' what I eat IYKWIM or I'm tired and I eat for sugar/carb rushes.

becstarlitsea · 29/09/2010 13:46

Welcome boobmanagement and BusyMissIzzy, Hello everyone else!

My Dad got the all clear - hurrah! Such a relief... Having a better day today. My GI book arrived yesterday. Too early to see whether it's easy to stick to yet, but I think it will be loads healthier than my previous dieting attempts - I do tend to get sugar cravings/blood sugar swings and had PCOS in the past, so I think this is the right diet to do for my health, even if it takes longer for the weight to come off. So glad to have some people to chat to for motivation in the meantime.

B: Clementine
Snack: 2 dried apricots, 5 cashew nuts
L: Homemade artichoke soup with lots of veg, 1 apple, 3 cashew nuts
Plan for the rest of the day:
Snack: pear and 2tbsp natural low fat yoghurt
D: Chicken provencale (thighs - but I'll take the skins off!)
Exercise - just walking DS to school and back...unless I get chance to do my yoga DVD before DH gets back from work

plan for tomorrow
B: Porridge with added linseed
Snack: Yoghurt and fresh fruit
L: Rest of the soup
Snack: Dried apricots and nuts
D: Sausage and lentil casserole
Exercise - finally get around to doing my yoga DVD...

Good luck all - are we going to all weigh in on a particular day? Might help us stay motivated/cheer each other up on bad week/be spurred on if we're doing well. My weight today is 10st 9lbs, so I've lost a pound since joining this thread even though I didn't think I was doing well!

FrameyMcFrame · 29/09/2010 18:14

Ok, sounds like a good idea. I'll weigh myself this evening and post back later.
I've been pretty good today;

Porrige and banana for breakfast.
Tuna pasta for lunch
no snacks so far :)

BusyMissIzzy · 29/09/2010 18:26

Reading all your healthy food records is making me too ashamed to post mine! I stick to 1500/1600 calories a day, but most days about 300 calories of that is chocolate Blush

I'm also doing the 30 Day Shred (only 2 days to go!), sometimes do Davina McCall workouts, and run at the weekends. I find exercising easier than dieting.

Should I give some stats? I'm 5'4" and weigh 9st 5lb at the moment. Used to weigh 8st 4lb pre-pregnancy but I was too thin really. I'd settle for somewhere between 8.5 and 9st now.

eisbaer · 29/09/2010 19:20

Hi,
Don't be ashamed to post about chocolate etc. I'm in awe of some folks' willpower on here. There's not been a day gone by since I've started this that I haven't had cake Shock, but I have noticed that the ole sugar intake is building again so it's getting nipped in the bud as of tonight!
today saw
breakfast - porage made with water and raisins(drizzle of honey too, too bland otherwise)
coffee with semi milk

mid morning - I was STARVING, so much for low GI! just had coffee with semi milk

lunch - small bowl of lentil soup(with bacon in it) and cheese and chutney sandwich on 50/50 bread

afternoon snack - 1 small cookie(home made, there were raisins in there, does that help?), 1 apple

teatime - mince and potatoes, 0% fat yogurt, 1 piece birthday cake and three marshmallo top hats.

going a run tonight, will endeavour to have two apples or fruit on my return, but nothing else. If I manage that it'll be progress.

Weight is fluctuating at about 131 lbs(9 stone 5) and just can't get below 130, but anyone reading my log compared to anyone else won't be surprised, I@m sure!

some of you manage on hardly anything, i'm so grumpy and that's with sugar most days.
have a nice evening everyone!

boobmanagement · 29/09/2010 20:12

You guys are doing great!

BusyMissIzzy, I'm doing 30 day shred but even though it's 20 mins I can't be bothered. School runs and moving house are tiring me out. After my first baby I was about what you are but this is my third (he is now 14 weeks) and I'm 10st 3. Envy Ideally would like to be 9st 3 but just want to lost 1/2 stone for now.

Is anyone on this link breastfeeding? I am exclusively BF. My calorie intake was 2000 a day and I was losing 1lb a week but now that's slowed right down. Do you think I should reduce my calories more?

I'm going on holiday to Centre Parcs in 2 weeks and was hoping to be slimmish for then but it's not gonna happen Sad

Ps, for my weekly weigh in, I was 10st 3 this mornin.

BusyMissIzzy · 29/09/2010 20:54

boobmanagement I was about 10st 3lb when my DD was 14 weeks too! She's almost 7mo now. And she's my first. I put on about 3st while pregnant Blush Willpower went out the window, and we moved house so I had no time or energy for exercise.

boobmanagement · 29/09/2010 21:03

Buzy, or BMI (!) - wow, how did you get down to 9st5! I'll be chuffed if I can get down to that. I just feel so fat at the mo. None of my clothes look nice and I don't want to buy any new ones.

BusyMissIzzy · 29/09/2010 21:19

(I know, my initials are far too confusing when I'm on weightloss threads Blush) No tricks really, just trying not to eat too much rubbish, and exercising as much as I can. I've been lucky that DD's been a good sleeper; if I were sleep deprived I never would have had the energy to stick to any kind of exercise routine. Also, I didn't want to buy new clothes either, but once I realised it was going to take a while to lose any weight, I bought a couple of cheap pairs of jeans and some of this style of top. Great for hiding my belly.

becstarlitsea · 30/09/2010 10:48

Morning all! Funny I was thinking the same thing about other people's eating plans - I guess the rubbish I eat seems far more shameful...

I did my yoga DVD this morning and it was shocking - I was like a creaky old lady, could hardly get through it at all. I clearly need to do it more often. Stuck to my eating plan yesterday - apart from I made curry with the chicken and courgettes rather than chicken provencale. It was yummy, and very low GI (I put chick peas in it as well, lots of spices, made it with fry light and just had one spoon of wholegrain basmati rice with it). DH loved it too, which was a relief - means he's 'on board' with eating low GI dinners for a while!

I was sitting with the book doing our meal plan for next week and DH said 'So why are we doing this?'
I said "because it's healthy and I want to get back into my black jeans"

he said 'But you eat pretty healthily anyway"
I said "Well... I do and I don't...... Sometimes I eat during the day when you're not here"

"Like what?"
"Ermm... Chocolate. Cake. Crisps. That sort of thing."
"Right. And you needed to buy a book to tell you that chocolate, cake and crisps might be the problem?"
"Yes. I did. [mutinous stare daring DH to comment further]"
"Fair enough. Curry's nice, thanks darling"
A bit later he asked what I do with the wrappers. I told him that a gentleman doesn't ask those sorts of questions. Grin

DontMentionChorizo · 30/09/2010 13:23

FrameyMcFrame · 30/09/2010 14:41

Hi all.

I've put on 3lbs!
Don't believe it :(

Today I had,

Porrige and banana.
Cheese salad
half a tunnocks caramel wafer :)

I'm never going to loose this half stone without exercise but I don't seem to find the time to do any...

FrameyMcFrame · 30/09/2010 14:43

By the way, I'm 11.1 stone.
Shall we have a regular weigh in as Bec suggested say, on a Friday?
