Am going to stop eating crap and lose 4 stone. Want to help me stay on the straight and narrow?

That's it really. Need to lose 4 stone, have failed at every diet I've tried so am going back to basics - 3 low fat meals, 2 healthy snacks, 2 litres of water, more exercise.

I have to do it - on a serious note, have two gorgeous DCs and I want to be fit for them - this weight is not good for me and I know that I'm putting myself at risk of heart trouble, diabetes etc etc - and what's more, I want to wear a size 12 again - instead of size 20 for fuck's sake.

Have failed on all the summer weight loss threads so am hoping that starting my own will spur me on! So anyone with me? Or just want to come and shout at me when I want a chunky kit kat?

Dawny, I think most people eat more than they need tbh. I've lost 10lb by just cutting my portion size down. Yesterday, I couldn't finish my modest sized Sunday roast ~ well, I could've finished it, but I stopped when I was full instead of stopping when my plate was empty. :)

frozenfestiveflo · 10/01/2011 22:24

May have a look then.

Solo I thinks thats cultural to some extent - we are brought up to clear our plates and somehow it feels wrong to waste.

I am not the best at cooking small amounts - we are getting over it a bit by not sering everything up and either using it up for next days lunch or freezing it for my DD that doesnt live at home

solo · 10/01/2011 22:26

I agree flo. My Mum is a Yorkshire woman and very much the feeder.

frozenfestiveflo · 10/01/2011 22:30

I also think that our parents grew up (often at least) in times where food was short so for them waste was wicked

solo · 10/01/2011 23:54

Absolutely flo. We weren't allowed to leave the table before our entire meal was finished. I also had school dinners with seconds and had a big full cooked meal at home that evening. Far, far too much food IMO.

frozenfestiveflo · 11/01/2011 09:04

Oh gosh yes - but it conditioned us lol

Niecie · 11/01/2011 09:53

Oh yes! My parents don't do waste even now. I am quite picky about use by dates but my mother would rather eat something on the cusp of dangerous than throw it away. I am riddled with guilt about throwing stuff away as a result.

I suspect since we are much the same age, our parents must be - products of the war years or at least rationing years?

Niecie · 11/01/2011 09:54

Oh no - I have made myself feel very old now!! Smile

It doesn't take much though, tbh.

frozenfestiveflo · 11/01/2011 14:02

Yes Niecie my Mum was a 45 baby.

We arent old! we only feel it lol

Hello Blush Blush Blush I have been away from this thread since about November (thats when it was last bookmarked anyway) solo tried to drag me back at one point but I got distracted.

Things have been a bit of a nightmare - end oct/start nov was in and out hosp with chest probs - eventually diagnosed with asthma. Bosses at work very annoyed at time off - que probs at work and they were horrid. So I handed in notice, and was told to leave immediately but Id be paid 4 weeks notice(woohoo). Got offered 2 jobs within a few weeks :) Happy at work now, inhalers helping asthma but still wheezy on and off most days and was on steroid tabs over new year.

So diet/exercise been last thing on my mind tbh. But yesterday and toay did huge walk with buggy and lastnight went swimming after work.

So thought id come back on here :) Going to scroll up and read - well skim - and see how you have all been getting on.

Welcome newbies :)

giraffesCantDirtyDance · 12/01/2011 06:19

solo cheese and pickeles lovely. I had my first cheese scone yesterday - well a bit of it. uugh vile things.

niecie hello nice to see a familiar face from the thread, I dont see you around rest of site so much. :)

Niecie · 12/01/2011 09:48

Hello giraffes - I was worried about you! Last I saw you about, you started a thread about your chest problems and loads of people were telling you to go to hospital! It sounded scary! I hope you are feeling better now and the asthma is under control. Sounds like you were well shot of your last job so congratulations on getting a new one - something good has come out of your troubles.

We are struggling (well I am) to get motivated with the remains of Christmas still lying around. Plus I am not sleeping brilliantly and I am knackered so don't feel like being very active.Blush

It might take until the end of January to get my weight loss mojo back so bear with me while I do.

Not sure we were so organised back when you were last on the thread but we have weigh ins on Fridays if you want to join in with that. Smile

solo · 12/01/2011 16:38

Yoo Hoo giraffes!!! welcome back and congrats on the new job!!! well done!

frozenfestiveflo · 12/01/2011 21:30

been really good and feeling really positive - all except my mcflurry treat tonight that is lol

solo · 12/01/2011 22:18

Hmmmmmmmmmm flo...

frozenfestiveflo · 12/01/2011 22:30

lol - how much harm can it do?

solo · 13/01/2011 00:09

I dunno, but I just had a Penguin Blush

Niecie · 13/01/2011 09:22

Penguins and McFlurrys - tut tut

frozenfestiveflo · 13/01/2011 09:49

It's ok Niecie its still post Christmas drag lol. We'll be back properly I just know it.

As for mint crisps for breakfast - oh yum! I have to confess that when I am not in the zone, I have been known to eat all sorts at anytime of day or night! shocking - no wonder I now need to diet!

Never watched biggest loser, I watched when it was on in the afternoon but not sure DH would think it very entertaining lol.

It almost doesnt matter how you looked last year, it's not now - BUT it's great to look back and know it was LAST year :)

Niecie · 13/01/2011 11:02

True.

I am just worried about how deluded I am. I honestly don't think I looked that awful nd now I am thinking, I must look awful to other people still and I think I am looking better. IYSWIM.

Stupid thing is that if past experience is anything to go by my body image is stuck at about size 16/18 and even when I was 10/12 I still thought I looked 16/18 so it works both ways!

I really need to pull myself together!Grin

I need a goal - a lb off this week would be good (but unlikely) but something more long term. Can't think of one at the moment. The inlaws 50th wedding anniversary party maybe but it isn't until the end of August so not very inspirational now.

Anybody else got a goal?

Rugbylovingmum · 13/01/2011 12:16

Hi all,

can I join please. The OP sounds just like me - I have tried loads of diets but as soon as I even think about dieting I just feel hungry non-stop and eat even more than before. I am very all or nothing about things and with dieting or exercise that usually ends up being nothing - if I can't stick to my diet exactly or exercise every day I just decide it's not worth bothering and sit on the sofa with a book and a big bar of choc Blush. The result is I'm 4 stone overweight (and getting heavier) and my size 18 clothes are all getting too tight.

I really need to do something. I don't want my DD picking up my bad eating habits and I want to encourage her to be active - I'm NOT a good role model for that just now. Most of all I'm sick of feeling bad about myself because I can't do anything about the weight. I am going to try to eat smaller portions, cut out the rubbish and do a little bit of exercise and hopefully the weight will start to come off. I don't mind losing it slowly, I just need something I can stick with.

Anyway it's be great to have somewhere to come and chat, moan and get some tips if you don't mind a newbie joining you Grin.

frozenfestiveflo · 13/01/2011 12:38

Hi Rugby :) Welcome

We are a little bunch and we all have our moments lol.

Niecie - don't really have a goal but would like to be 10st by the summer - even if its an Indian one lol
I understand the body image thing - I always just think I look ok however big I am. I look in the mirror and think its passable and then some bugger takes a photo and I am a heffer!

solo · 13/01/2011 12:47

Hello everyone! Welcome Rugby :) we are a friendly and encouraging bunch. We have a Friday weigh in where we are very honest with each other, but especially to ourselves.

Niecie and flo, I was on the Paul McKenna web chat last night, didn't see you there...do you like him?
I've been lucky enough to be given tickes to go to his seminar next month...I'm grinning from ear to ear! have any of you tried his cd I Can Make You Thin? might be worth a look see if you fancy it?

solo · 13/01/2011 12:57

Oh yes! my first husband used to tell me I was fat and I believed him :( I was a size 8-10...so I'd never really seen myself in a good light until about 14 years ago as I was training very hard for my job and really toned up and I started to see that I looked Ok. Yes, just Ok :(
I got to a 12-14 at 40 and even after Dd, I was still slim, but put it all on with the news of my Dads cancer and also catching Dd's father with another woman...she was 20+ stones if she was a day and it made me feel terrible...I comfort ate my way up to a size 18, but am glad to say that my jeans keep falling down and they are a size 16...I'm pleasd, but feel I've got a long way to go. My sil is 50 in March and is throwing a ball and I need to get into one of my ball gowns, so need to shift at least another stone by then...it's the beginning of March, not the end Shock so I've got work to do...

Niecie · 13/01/2011 13:31

Solo - what did you do for a living that made you train so much?!

I do have the Paul McKenna book and the diary thing, thought it was a great idea, liked the book. Then settled down to listen to the CD thinking, yay, my problems are solved.

Unfortunately, after listening to the CD twice, I decided I really couldn't stand his voice in my ear. Blush

I don't know what it is but it was really irritating.

I have a similar book by Melissa Peer that I stated but didn't finish (Hmm) and I wondered if she was any more listenable. I should really give it a go I suppose but didn't think I ought to until I finished the book. Perhaps I should get on with it. I've only had it 4 years. Blush

I am sure Paul McKenna in public, not in your ear with his hyponotism voice is fine by the way. I have seen him on the telly and all is well - but in my ear....I just wanted to tell him to bugger off.Blush

Rugbyloveingmum - hello! Welcome. Feel free to join in. At the risk of being Mrs Boring from Boringville as I have mentioned it several times before, have you seen the Food Focus website. Excellent for tracking weight and goals and calorie counting and most importantly, free.

By the way - what did happen to the OP? Grin
